2000 Lexus Gs300 problems
The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- Summary: REGARDING MY 2000 GS 300 LEXUS. BRAKE, ABS, VSC, VSC OFF LIGHTS ALONG WITH LOUD ALARM DISPLAYED. ALSO HAS HAD AN ANNOYING ON AND OFF CHIRPING NOISE BEFORE THIS ALARM SOUNDED. THE BREAKS APPEAR TO BE WORKING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE CHIRPING NOISE IS HEARD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER WHETHER CAR IS MOVING OR DRIVING AND SOMETIMES IS NOT HEARD AT ALL AND THE CAR DRIVES FINE WITHOUT ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. BUT WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON IT WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH A SHRILL ALARM THAT SOUNDED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND WENT OFF. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PUMP AND WOULD COST $3700 TO FIX. THIS IS A LOT OF MONEY AND I AM AFRAID THE BRAKES WILL GO OUT AND AFRAID TO DRIVE IT SINCE MY BRAKES MAY SUDDENLY GO OUT. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-04-24
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: BOUGHT A 2000 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED IN 2005 FROM LEXUS DEALER. IN 2007 ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, A DRIVER WAS DRIVING VERY SLOW AND STARTED TO PULL OVER. I QUICKLY WENT AROUND HER TO PASS, AT ABOUT 35 MPH, BUT AFTER RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL, CAR SPED UP INSTEAD. TRIED TO SLOW DOWN WITH THE BRAKES, BUT IT SPED UP MORE. THEN SLAMMED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND PUT IT ON PARK TO AVOID HITTING STOPPED CARS AHEAD. IT STOPPED IN "PARK" BUT WAS STILL REVVING HIGH. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS STILL REVVING OVER 6 RPM! I BENT UNDER THE DASH AND TRIED TO LOOSEN THE GAS PEDAL WITH MY HAND THINKING IT WAS STUCK BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP REVVING SO I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. BEFORE TURNING ENGINE ON AGAIN, I MADE SURE NO CARS WERE AHEAD OF ME AND PREPARED TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL/PARK IMMEDIATELY THIS TIME. DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. TOOK IT TO LEXUS (SEE INVOICE). THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE PROBLEM; CLAIMED PEDAL GOT STUCK IN RUBBER FLOOR MAT. I TOLD THEM I PULLED GAS PEDAL WITH MY HAND WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND REVVING ON ITS OWN, AND PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK MAT. IN 2009 (NOW WITH 117K MILES) ON 60 MPH HIGHWAY WHEN MY DAUGHTER DROVE IT AND FLOORED THE PEDAL TO PASS SOMEONE. AFTER RELEASING PEDAL, IT ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN TO 95 MPH. FORTUNATELY HER LANE WAS EMPTY AS SHE TRIED TO SLOW DOWN WITH THE BRAKES, BUT THIS DIDN'T WORK. THEN SHE STOMPED ON GAS PEDAL TO DISENGAGE IT. AFTER A MINUTE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. I CALLED DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE GS300 WAS NOT NOTED FOR THIS AND DIDN'T HAVE RECALL. I STILL HAVE CAR BUT NOW NEVER FLOOR THE PEDAL AND I'M ON GUARD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. I CANNOT GET RID OF IT BECAUSE I CAN'T SELL IT KNOWING THIS PROBLEM, AND I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER CAR. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-06-19
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I WAS TURNING ONTO THE FREEWAY (UPHILL ONRAMP) I STEPPED ON THE GAS GOING ABOUT 20 MILES AN HR WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR WOULDN'T STOP. ACCELERATED SO QUICKLY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MY FOOT WAS TOUCHING THE GAS ACCIDENTLY SO I MOVED AND APPLIED THE BRAKE WHICH WAS NO HELP, AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT ACCELERATED FASTER I WAS TERRIFIED. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH MY FEET AND THE CAR SLOWED ENOUGH THAT I WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OFF. EVEN WHILE I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR WAS STILL TRYING TO PULL FORWARD AS I TURNED IT OFF THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AFRAID TO DRIVE IT I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I'M HOPING THAT THEY WILL FIND THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THIS TO EVER HAPPEN AGAIN. THANKFULLY IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND THE FREEWAY WASN'T THAT CROWDED. I HAVE A 2000 LEXUS GS300. *JS
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-06-05
- VIN: JT8BD68S4Y0
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING MY LEXUS GS 300, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING! THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING NORMALLY AND ALL OF SUDDEN IT STALLED OUT (ENGINE STILL RUNNING) BUT NO ACCELERATION AT ALL, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GET HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLES VSC AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THIS HAPPENED.. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND NOTHING HAPPENED, AFTER A MINUTE OR SO, IT BEGIN TO ACCELERATE BUT ONLY ABOUT 20-30 MPH. AFTER CONSTANTLY HOLDING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD, THE CAR BEGIN TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY AGAIN FOR A FEW MILES. IT DOES THIS CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING NOW. AT TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR AWHILE AND THEN IT WILL RETURN TO FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE CODES THAT THE MECHANIC PULLED UP FROM THE ENGINE AND VSC LIGHTS WERE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR TO BE CHANGED. THIS WAS DONE AND THE CAR DROVE PERFECT FOR ABOUT 15 MILES, NO PROBLEMS, NO ENGINE LIGHT ETC... THEN OUT OF NOWHERE, EVERYTHING STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING, NO ACCELERATION AND THE VSC AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE AND THE OUTCOME WAS BASICALLY THE SAME RESULTS,SOME SENSOR (NOT DEFINITE) WITH A RETURN TO THE INITIAL PROBLEM. THE CODE DOES NOT PULL UP THE ACTUAL PROBLEM CAUSING CONSUMERS TO CONSTANTLY HAVE DIFFERENT SENSORS REPLACED, THROTTLE BODY, ETC. I HAVE ALSO READ WHERE A RECALL WAS ON 1998 VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT FULLY "FIXED." SOME CONSUMERS HAVE BATTLED WITH LEXUS TO INCLUDE THEIR LATER MODEL VEHICLES IN THE RECALL TO BE FIXED BECAUSE IT IS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM!!! AFTER READING OTHER CONSUMER COMPLAINTS AND REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS RECALL, I KNOW THAT THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER WHICH IS UNDOUBTEDLY PUTTING CONSUMERS IN TERRIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. THESE INCIDENTS HAPPEN WITH NO WARNING! YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-10-14
- VIN: JT8BD68S2Y0
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: TWICE IN THE SAME DAY OUR 2000 LEXUS GS300 EXPERIENCED ACCELERATION PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO THOSE NOW INVOLVED IN THE INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF TOYOTA PRODUCTS. THE ACCELERATION BEGAN AS THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE WITH GREAT FORCE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. WHEN I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THE REVVING OF THE ENGINE STOPPED. THE FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD NOT BEEN MOVED AND WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE GAS PEDAL. WE CALLED A MECHANIC WE USE FOR THE CAR AFTER THE INCIDENT TO FIND OUT WHETHER ANYTHING SIMILAR HAD BEEN REPORTED OR IF LEXUS HAD ISSUED A RECALL. WHEN WE LEARNED THAT OUR MODEL VEHICLE WAS NOT INDICATED AS HAVING A PROBLEM, WE DID NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER ABOUT THE PROBLEM. WE'VE NOT HAD THE PROBLEM SINCE THEN. HOWEVER, I THOUGHT IT BEST TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AFTER HEARING ABOUT VERY SIMILAR ISSUES IN OTHER MODELS OF TOYOTAS AND LEXUSES. I'M WONDERING IF THE PROBLEM EXTENDS FURTHER THAN THE MODELS AND MODEL YEARS NOW BEING RECALLED? *TR

- Summary: LEXUS ISSUE TO ABC NEWS ON JANUARY 29, 2010. *TR I OWNED A LEXUS GS NOT TOO LONG AGO THAT HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM. LEXUS DID EVERYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM....BUT THEY JUST HAD NO FIX FOR IT. IT WAS NOT A PETAL PROBLEM.....IT WAS IN THE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION CONTROL UNIT. HOW DID I KNOW THIS.....AFTER I GOT RID OF THE CAR I MET A TECHNICIAN THAT HAD WORKED FOR STERLING MCCALL LEXUS IN HOUSTON TX. HE TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE CONTROL UNIT AND MAIN COMPUTER AND THAT LEXUS NEVER WAS ABLE ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE COMPUTER REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. I GUARANTEE THAT THE LEXUS/TOYOTA ISSUE IS NOT A GAS PETAL ISSUE......IT IS IN THAT ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION MODULE. THEIR FIX WON'T WORK AND THERE WILL STILL BE WRECKS, INJURIES AND DEATHS AFTER EVERY RECALLED UNIT IS FIXED. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REPLY PLEASE DO SO AT [email protected] DO HAVE CONVERSATIONS AND LETTERS SENT TO THE NHTSA AND I ACTUALLY HAD THEM SEND ME COPIES OF ALL THEIR COMPLAINTS ON MY MODEL. THERE WERE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I COULD NEVER CONVINCE THE NHTSA TO INVOKE AN INVESTIGATION, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO GET THEIR INTEREST. .OH.....BY THE WAY I STILL DRIVE A LEXUS....A LX470. THEIR BIG UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT WIRING HARNESS....DIFFERENT COMPUTER....AND DIFFERENT ACCELERATION MODULE. IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL VEHICLE ALTHOUGH RATHER PRICEY. I DO KEEP MY CARS FOR QUITE A WHILE THOUGH.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-05-13
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: IN LATE 2000 MY FIANCE` AND I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW LEXUS FROM DAVID MCDERMOTT LEXUS IN EAST HAVEN CT. THE CAR RAN FLAWLESSLY FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH NO MAJOR ISSUES. OVER THE LAST YEAR OR SO THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON AND THE CAR MAKES A LOUD BEEPING SOUND. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHO THEN INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND THAT IT WOULD COST $2000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 98-02 GS300 MODELS THE VERY SAME CAR I OWN. I THEN MADE A CALL TO LEXUS CUSTOMER SERVICE TO INQUIRE AS TO WHY THEIR ALMOST $50K CAR HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR ONLY HAS 80,000 MILE AND THIS IS NOT EVEN A MOVING PART. LEXUS PROMISED TO GET BACK TO ME WITHIN 2 BUSINESS DAY TO SEE WHAT IF ANYTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I WAS INFORMED ON 5/13 THAT THEY RESPECTFULLY DECLINE TO HELP ME AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT LEXUS DOES NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMER'S FROM THEIR LACK OF ACTION I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS DEFECT ON A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE CAR DEMANDS AN INVESTIGATION. MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC HIMSELF A MASTER CERTIFIED LEXUS TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED ME THAT IF THIS SYSTEM FAILS IT WILL LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS THE ENTIRE BRAKING AND VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEM IS COMBINED ON THIS ONE UNIT. AT THIS TIME I AM NO LONGER DRIVING THE CAR FOR FEAR OF ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I WILL PARK THE VEHICLE UNTIL SUCH TIME WHEN I CAN AFFORD TO REPAIR. I AM NOT WRITING THIS COMPLAINT OUT OF SPITE OR MALICE I WOULD JUST LIKE OTHER CONSUMERS WHO OWN THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL CAR TO BE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER INHERENT IN THIS CAR. I WOULD KINDLY APPRECIATE YOU LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER FOR ME SO AS TO AVOID ANY UNNECESSARY ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS FROM THIS VEHICLE. SINCERELY CONCERNED CONSUMER *TR

Congratulations on your recent purchase! It's great to hear that you found a wonderful car that rides like it's brand new. Your maintenance efforts are impressive and it's no surprise that it looks and rides great. It's definitely a keeper! Thanks for sharing your experience and advice on finding a similar car with good miles.
-
Flawless and solid! It feels and performs like a new car even after 48,000 miles. The build quality is beyond anything in its class. I can understand why the domestics are struggling.

I'm a sales manager who travels extensively and I've been trading cars every 2 years until now. However, my GS has been the finest and most trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned. I must say, my Lexus dealer is more than terrific. The comfort, handling, and looks are all top-notch. The only complaints I have are the lack of steering wheel controls for the sound system and the requirement of premium fuel for a car with modest (200) horsepower. In my opinion, a more accurate quote would be, 'Lexus, there really isn't any substitute.'
-
The car drives smoothly and feels stable, almost like it's gliding on a rail. The pearl color is absolutely beautiful and the leather seats are surprisingly soft and comfortable. The sound system is the best I have ever heard in an uncustomized setup, which is truly impressive. My wife and I are very happy with our purchase, as the car is trouble-free, quiet, dependable, sporty, and luxurious.
-
Hi there! I'm selling one of my items, not because I want to, but because I'm moving far away and need the cash. Would you be interested in buying it?

I recently purchased this car and unfortunately, prior to closing the deal, I had to request new tires as the ones on the 'certified' vehicle were badly worn. Additionally, I noticed some nicks and chips that were beyond what I expected for a car with only 22k miles. After a few months, I also noticed that the radio numbers were becoming difficult to read. Although I have had to make some minor repairs that were still covered by warranty, I have been pleased with the service I have received. While I have spent around $5K on repairs, I was able to defer a $1400 service that was not essential and the dealer has agreed to cover the labor on a power steering column that I had to replace after a $2700 service two weeks ago. Although I have had some issues, I still believe that this is a great car. However, I do miss my ES300 which had 208K miles and never gave me any problems. The snow handling on this car could be improved though.
