Common Kia Stinger problems
The Kia Stinger, a sporty sedan produced by the South Korean automaker, has been praised for its performance and design. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its issues. Here are some common problems reported by Kia Stinger owners, based on the search results:
- Non-Engine Electrical Problems: Reported problems with the Kia Stinger are few, but most of them relate to non-engine electrics. These issues can range from minor inconveniences, such as interior lighting malfunctions, to more significant problems affecting the car's functionality.
- Transmission Issues: Some Kia Stinger owners have reported shifting delays and slight jerking when the car downshifts, particularly in the 2022 model year. These issues may be related to the adaptive transmission control unit (TCU), which can be reset at the dealership to address these complaints.
- Trunk Rattle: A significant portion of Kia Stinger owners have reported a rattling noise coming from the trunk, which can be a source of annoyance and potentially indicate a more serious issue.
- Differential Failure: There have been cases where the differential has snapped from the subframe, particularly in the 2019 model year with 100,000-mile drive train warranties. This can be a significant issue, potentially causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
- Brake Pulsating: Some Kia Stinger owners have reported brake pulsating, which can be a safety concern and may indicate issues with the brake system.
It is essential to note that these issues are not universal to all Kia Stinger models, and many owners have reported no significant problems with their vehicles. However, these common issues are worth considering when purchasing or maintaining a Kia Stinger. Always ensure that the vehicle is serviced according to the manufacturer's service schedule to minimize potential problems and maintain the seven-year manufacturer's warranty.

- VIN: KNAE15LA7J6
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Casey Kia located in Newport News Virginia continues to delay the replacement of my fuel pump. I was told it was replaced but 2 weeks later I was having the same issue to the point where my car was decelerating on the interstate. After I took it back in for them to repair it I was told they would look into it. I received a call saying the fuel pump was never replaced and the only thing that had been done originally was a software update, so basically I was lied to and put in a very dangerous situation because a fire could've been caused while driving. They also said they were waiting for approval for the recall before they repaired it. Had I known it wasn't repair I wouldn't have driven the car. I was supposed to pick my car up on 07/26 but I was told they ordered the wrong part and it would be available to them on 07/29.

Specifically, both the driver and passenger seats do not go back up after reclining. Yes, these seats are available for inspection upon request. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? •The safety of the driver and passengers was compromised because the driver seat could not be adjusted back to a safe and upright position, which is crucial for maintaining proper control of the vehicle. The issue is the car seats they don’t go up after reclining . It started with passenger seat. One day I reclined while on 20 min ride . It didn’t go back up . Stayed reclined. Then a couple weeks later while cleaning the car I reclined the driver seat to clean the dust from the top of the seat and the seat did not go back up after recline. Kia Stinger 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-10
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-10
- VIN: KNAE15LA1L6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: The vehicle will shut off without reason from time to time. I'll be sitting at a light, stop sign, or intersection, and the car just shuts off. All electronics inside the car turn off, the engine turns off, and it's as if I've shut the car off to get out. Usually, I'm able to restart the car after a few moments and go about my day, but in doing some research on this issue, there have been others that have had the same issue. When others take their car in to have it investigated, the dealership is unable to locate the issue as it's extremely difficult to replicate. A person's safety is definitely in question considering if the car shuts off while driving, it could lock the steering wheel as a few others have seen. The only symptom that I have experienced is the music from the radio goes weird prior to the car shutting down.

- Summary: After driving on the highway for approximately 20 miles with no warning lights illuminated or any signs of issue, the driver's door opened while driving at highway speeds. We were in a right hand turn on a highway exchange ramp at approximately 65 mph, when the door popped open an audible warning began to sound and visual door ajar warnings illuminated on the dash. This was not just an erroneous alarm of the door ajar alarm; the door came unlatched opening enough to see daylight around the seal. My wife immediately grabbed the door and pulled it shut while driving. After closing the door the audible and visual alarms extinguished. I witnessed the incident from the passenger seat and can verify she did not on purpose or by accident touch the interior door handle to release the latch. This occurred with the vehicle having approximately 6,000 miles on the odometer. Doors should not inadvertently pop open while driving, this puts us at extreme risk of injury or death. If this were to occur while someone was leaning against it the outcome could be fatal.

- Summary: I called the Vanguard Kia dealership in Arlington (3:22pm), TX the date I received the recall letter on 5/7/2024. The service rep (I didn't get his name) put me hold and confirmed the work would only take 3 hours, I would take a shuttle home, I should arrive first thing at 7am the following morning. I arrived at the dealership to drop my car of 7am on [XXX]. There was no service scheduled for me, but since I get there early I was only 3rd in line to be seen. As I was about to leave in the shuttle, and the Zach (second service rep to help) advised they didn't have the part or the tools to perform the work need to complete my recall. I was upset because I was assured by the service rep I spoke with the day prior that I'd didn't a loaner and I'd drop my car off and get it back same day since it was a 3 hour job. I inquired about getting a loaner vehicle and I was told my job wasn't big enough to qualify for loaner; even my car was still under the original warranty and this was recall related work. I was told I "should" be ok driving the car, even though I express concern about the catching fire as stated in the recall letter. After call Kia Customer Relations, they give the dealership a call and they still refused to accommondate me. I was told "if any happened Kia would take responsiblity", "I was concerned, just don't park the car close to the my home" (Zach's peer), and that I could pay out of pocket up front for a rental and they reimburse once I got my car back. I don't feel I needed to have to come out of pocket anything consider this is warranty / recall work. They gave me the car and had me drive back home, and now I have get it back up there whenever they get my parts. I've been accommodated in no way for the misleading instruction, and lack of consideration driving a car back and forth that had a active recall; INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle year: 2022
I never thought I would own a Kia, but it made me confront my badge snobbery. The car has awesome power, great fit and finishes, plenty of interior room, and a hatchback. My only critique would be that the gas tank could be bigger. This car beat out a long list of competitors, including the Camry, Avalon, Altima, Maxima, ES350, GS350, Q50, BMW 4 Grand Coup, and S5/A5. Happy shopping, everyone! I'm sure you'll find a car you love too.

Vehicle year: 2018
Hey there! I know some people might turn their nose up at a Kia, but I don't see why anyone wouldn't want this car. If you're truly buying a car and not just a brand, the Stinger is fantastic. I was researching cars over the winter and wanted to move up to at least an entry-level luxury brand like the Audi A5 Sportback or Infiniti Q50. But after reading the great reviews for the Stinger and taking the V6 GT for a test drive, I was blown away. The power and acceleration are amazing, and the handling, braking, and overall performance are fantastic. The interior build quality is excellent, and the hatchback/utility and 4-passenger room are real pluses. Kia snagged stalwarts from Audi and BMW to design and engineer this car, and it shows. They built this as a GT, and that's exactly what I wanted: a car to cover long distances quickly, in comfort and luxury. My wife and I are empty-nesters and take plenty of weekend getaway trips, and I use it as a daily commuter. Or, if I just want a lot of fun, I put it in Sport mode, find some twisties and some open straights... it's a blast! The car is perfect for us, and it gets a lot of admiring looks from other drivers. Some folks' first reaction might be 'that's a lot of money for a Kia', but I see it as a steal. Comparably equipped and powered, the luxury models like the Audi S5 Sportback would be at least another $20k. Plus, with the 10yr/100k warranty, it was a no-brainer for me. I haven't had it long enough to really tell, but so far, no problems, squeaks, or rattles. Solid. Now, there are a few things that I'm not a huge fan of:The rear view visibility may be somewhat limited due to the sloping lines and large c-pillars, which is why it received 4 stars for safety. However, there is a lot of impressive technology included. It's worth noting that the engine auto stop/start is default-on, but it can be turned off. Additionally, the shift-by-wire in the GT2 and having to press the 'P' button to park may take some getting used to. Lastly, the auto-lift-hatch may not always open when you want it to, but it's still a convenient feature.

Vehicle year: 2020
I love the looks of the car, it's super fast, comfortable, and very unique, which always turns a lot of heads. Although it's definitely better than some of the competitors as far as performance, the lack of Navigation or sunroof, and the fact that the premium sound is a little turn off, can be a bit disappointing for a $43000 car. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes offer those options for the same price. However, I still think it's a very nice looking car, and if some standard gadgets were added, it would be even more attractive to the consumer.

Vehicle year: 2020
I recently decided to lease a new car and was looking for something unique. After considering a few options, including the Golf R, Audi S3, and Alfa Romeo Guilia Ti Sport, I ended up with a GT1 for $500 a month with only the first payment due at signing on a 3/36K. I've had it for 10 months and put about 8K miles on it. I'm surprised by how much attention it gets, with someone asking about it at least once a day. In a poll based on my conversations, most people assume it's a BMW, Porsche, or Maserati. I hope these cars remain slightly rare and exclusive. Aside from oil changes, the only issue I've had was with the key-fob shell, which was peeling and replaced under warranty. The performance is solid, with linear and plentiful torque and power, especially at low speeds. The brakes can certainly stop you on a dime when needed, but don't feel as impressive as they look. The AWD performance is better than my previous Audi and Volvo. The city MPG is not great, averaging around 9-13MPG, but the highway MPG is around 24-29MPG. The quality is strong, competitive with Infiniti and last-gen Volvo's, but not as refined as Audi. The seats are supportive, and the heated/cooled seats are quick and powerful. Overall, I'm really happy with my GT1 and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and fun car. Many reviews mention blind spots, but I personally haven't been bothered by them thanks to the safety and collision mitigation features. The technology is pretty amazing - I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed wireless charging. Navigation input can be a bit annoying (must be in park, no suggestions when inputting addresses), but CarPlay allows you to seamlessly use Waze instead. I do wish the back doors had keyless entry, and the blind spot monitors were more pronounced. Additionally, the auto braking system needs some improvement - I've accidentally brake checked a few cars in bumper to bumper traffic due to the system's false alarms. However, the audio quality is strong and gets better after the break-in period, and the auto high beams/headlights and light quality are top notch. The only major issue I wish they'd have addressed is making this car ski/snowboard friendly. There is no option for a center rear pass-through, and there aren't any pre-drilled roof rack slots on the top. For a car designed by a bunch of Germans, I expected they would have thought of this. After recently driving my parents' 2018 Audi A5, it's obvious the Audi is more refined in just about every way from build to performance. However, the value and looks of the Stinger far outweigh almost all of the cons I can think of. I'm happy I leased instead of bought, as that will easily allow me to get into a second-generation Stinger once available. Once they throw in the GTS AWD to non-orange models, improve the transmission, and just polish their overall product, this will be a 5/5.

If you're looking for a car that prioritizes gas mileage, this may not be the best option for you. However, if you're looking for a car that offers comfort and power, then this is definitely worth considering. As an owner of a base GT, I can personally attest to its performance. While I considered upgrading to a GT1, the 9-speaker sound system was more than sufficient for my needs and I didn't want to pay the extra 7k. This is actually my second Kia product and I have been impressed with their warranty. Even at 6'3 and 250lbs, I can comfortably sit behind myself in this car. The only minor issue is trying to exit the vehicle without causing any damage to the leather seats.

The car's handling leaves room for improvement, and the braking system could be more responsive. However, it is an aesthetically pleasing vehicle.

Within the first couple of days, I experienced some lights popping up on the dashboard, which was a bit of a turnoff. But I guess that's what you should expect when purchasing a used car.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2019 Stinger GTS. I absolutely love this car and take great care of it, only driving it on nice days and storing it indoors during the winter. Unfortunately, I did experience some issues with the car that required some attention. When I took it in for an oil change at 7,000 miles, the technician noticed an oil leak at the rear of the engine. KIA decided to replace the entire engine, which took some time but was covered under warranty. After storing the car from October to March, I noticed some issues with the turbos or gaskets, which KIA was able to fix after a couple of weeks. Recently, I took the car in for service at 13,000 miles and the engine light came on. While it took some time to diagnose the issue, KIA was able to determine that it was a computer problem and is working to resolve it. While it has been a bit of a journey, I am confident that KIA will be able to resolve the issue and get me back on the road soon. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my experience!
