2020 Bmw M550i problems
The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series consists of the BMW G30 (sedan version) and BMW G31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') executive cars. The G30/G31 has been produced since 2016 by the German automaker BMW and is often collectively referred to as the G30. It was officially announced on 12 October 2016 and sales began in February 2017.
The fastback 5 Series Gran Turismo model from the previous generation is no longer part of the 5 Series model range, and has been moved to the 6 Series Gran Turismo nameplate. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code G38) is sold in China.
On 27 May 2020, a facelifted 5 Series was unveiled. Although the 2021 BMW 5 Series is 1.2 inches longer than the 2020 model, many of the vehicle's other dimensions remain unchanged despite the styling redesign.
In 2023, the G30 5 Series was phased out in favor of the G60 5 Series. In 2024, the G31 was also phased out in favor of the new Touring model named G61.

Common 2020 Bmw M550i problems
The 2020 BMW M550i has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the electrical system, airbags, latches/locks/linkages, and door latching complaints in cold weather.
One of the significant issues is related to the electrical system, specifically the software fault 930C1E found in the ACSM (Advanced Control System Module). This fault can cause the Check Engine Light, DSC warning lamp, and airbag warning lamps to illuminate, indicating potential problems with the airbags or the electrical system.
Another issue concerns the back-over prevention rearview camera, which can fail to display an image when activated. This problem can be sporadic and is a safety concern, as it may prevent the driver from seeing what is behind the vehicle when reversing.
The 2020 BMW M550i has also been reported to have airbag faults. The ACSM may store fault code 930C1E, which can trigger the airbag warning lamps and the DSC warning lamp. This issue may require a software update or further diagnosis to resolve.
In cold weather, the 2020 BMW M550i may experience door latching complaints. Below freezing temperatures can cause one or more doors (front or rear) to fail to open or not latch correctly after opening. This issue may be due to a leaking seal on the outer Bowden release.
While there are no specific mentions of coolant leaks or the active grill shutter getting stuck in the search results, these issues have been reported for the 540 and 550 models in general. It is essential to keep these potential problems in mind when owning or considering the purchase of a 2020 BMW M550i. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes, and addressing issues promptly can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.
