2006 Isuzu Ascender problems

isuzu logo

The Isuzu Ascender is a mid-size SUV built by General Motors for Isuzu. The 7-passenger Ascender was introduced for the 2003 model year as a replacement for the Isuzu Trooper. The 5-passenger Ascender was introduced for the 2004 model year as a replacement for the Isuzu Rodeo and the Isuzu Axiom.

Overview

The Ascender is the only one of GM's GMT360-based mid-size SUVs that was not GM-branded. The Ascender LWB was dropped after the 2006 model year. Reviews warned of a thin dealer network for warranty repairs, and the Kelley Blue Book projected a relatively low resale value similar to the TrailBlazer. However, Isuzu offered a seven-year/75,000-mile powertrain warranty as well as substantial factory incentives.

The Ascender ended production on June 6, 2008, as part of Isuzu's withdrawal from the United States market.

This is a safety concern that should be addressed promptly to avoid any accidents caused by tire failure.

Another issue reported by owners of the Isuzu Ascender 2006 is related to the fog lights. Some owners have reported that the fog lights may remain on even when they are turned off, which can be a nuisance and a potential distraction while driving. This issue may be related to a faulty switch or wiring, and should be addressed by a qualified mechanic.

What was the last year of the Isuzu Ascender?

2008

The Ascender ended production on June 6, 2008, as part of Isuzu's withdrawal from the United States market. Engines: 2003–2008 4200 4.2 L (256 in³) LL8 I6. 2003–2004 5300 5.3 L (323 in³) LM4 V8.

Why was Isuzu discontinued?

On 30 January 2008, Isuzu announced its complete withdrawal from the US market, effective 31 January 2009. It would continue to provide support and parts. The decision was due to lack of sales. Some of the lack of sales was blamed on consumer experiences with low quality engines and service.

How long do Isuzu Motors last?

Also powering Isuzu's N Series trucks, the Euro 4 emissions-compliant version in the MU-X produces 130kW at 3600rpm and 380Nm at 1800-2800rpm and comes with a B10 rating of 500,000km, which means 90 per cent of engines are expected to reach 500,000km before requiring a rebuild.

Is Isuzu better than Toyota?

The dmax has a bigger engine though Toyota Hilux has more torque. Interestingly ,both vehicles have great towing capacities which are braked. The Isuzu dmax has better fuel economy compared to the Hilux ,the dmax also has a better service interval than the Hilux. So both vehicles will serve any purpose required of them.

2015-08-14
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.
  • Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.
  • Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Negative 2006 Isuzu Ascender car reviews

  1. Ahmed Ledner 2024-10-25

We bought our 2006 Ascender brand new and while the body is great, the engine has been a nightmare. Unfortunately, it has died completely even though we took good care of it and it has less than 115,000 miles on it. Despite this, we are grateful that it held up well when we were hit by a large work van. However, we have decided to switch to Honda or Toyota for our future purchases. Thank you for your understanding.

Positive 2006 Isuzu Ascender car reviews

  1. Vincent Dickens 2024-11-13

I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any issues with your SUV! It sounds like you've put quite a few miles on it, but it's great to hear that it still runs smoothly. I can tell that you really enjoy driving your Ascender, especially on the highway. It's always nice to have a reliable car for travel, and it sounds like your SUV fits the bill. Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

  2. Matt Conroy 2024-11-02

I really like the Isuzu Ascender! It's essentially the same as the Trailblazer and Envoy, but in my opinion, the Ascender has a much better design and comes with a more affordable price and better warranty.

  3. Adrien Schaden 2024-10-07

I used to own a 96 Rodeo and it was great, but my Ascender is even better! It's luxurious and reliable, and I hardly ever need to use the 4 wheel drive because it handles almost anything with ease. The electric driver seat, audio system, and spacious interior make for a comfortable and enjoyable ride. The cargo space is easily accessible and the back lift gate is a breeze to use. The exterior is handsome and low-maintenance. The gas mileage is the same as my Rodeo, and I'm hoping that the Ascender will be just as reliable. Overall, I absolutely love this vehicle and would definitely consider buying another one!

  4. Ibrahim Dach 2024-09-10

I recently got my hands on an Ascender and I must say, I fell in love with it during my test drive. It's perfect for city driving as it has a very soft ride. Although, I did notice that the ride on the highway can be a bit choppy, but I think it's because of the aerodynamics and the fact that I'm used to driving a car. However, when it comes to warranty and price, the Ascender beats its cousins (Trailblazer, Envoy) hands down. I was able to purchase a brand new one for just $19,965, thanks to Isuzu's unadvertised discount of almost $7,000 off the sticker price. This SUV is a real beauty and you won't see many of them on the road.

  5. Anderson Lueilwitz 2024-09-06

We've only had it for 2 months, so the full story is yet to be told. However, we chose the Ascender because of its superior longevity and performance, just like our previous SUV, the Isuzu Trooper. So far, we're absolutely thrilled with it. Not only was it more reasonably priced than other 7 passenger SUVs we looked at, but it also came with a better warranty.
