Infiniti Qx56 problems
The Infiniti QX80 (formerly called the Infiniti QX56 until 2013) is a full-size luxury SUV marketed by Nissan's luxury division Infiniti. The first-generation QX56 was built in the United States and is based on the first-generation Armada. The second-generation model was released in 2010 as a model produced in Japan, which used the sixth-generation Patrol (later also marketed as the second-generation Armada since 2016) as the base vehicle instead. Since the 2014 model year in 2013, the vehicle was renamed to the QX80 as Infiniti renamed their entire product line under a new nomenclature.
First generation (JA60; 2004)
The first-generation QX56 (model code JA60) is based on the first-generation Armada, while also sharing the F-Alpha platform with the first-generation Titan. It is the first Infiniti built in the United States. The QX56 was only marketed in the United States, Canada, Russia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Development on the JA60 QX56 began in early 2000 alongside the WA60 Armada. A final design by Masato Takahashi was reached in early 2001, with an August 2001 design freeze for early 2004 start of production.
The rear door handles were installed on the C-pillar as a Nissan design tradition started with the D21 Pathfinder released in 1985 to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The first-generation QX56 was powered by a 5.6-liter VK56DE V8 engine (320 hp (239 kW) at 4,900 rpm and 393 lb⋅ft (533 N⋅m) torque at 3,600 rpm) and a 5-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive. As is common with aluminum blocks, each cylinder in the engine was lined with cast iron. The valvetrain was a DOHC design with four valves per cylinder. Infiniti designed the QX56's throttle responsiveness to correspond to specific drivetrain modes: when the driver selects all-wheel drive, the throttle becomes less sensitive, presumably to allow easier regulation of acceleration when off-road.
The QX56 had around 9,000 lb (4,082 kg) of towing capacity. Mileage at peak performance drain is 12 miles per US gallon (20 L/100 km; 14 mpg‑imp). It comes in one trim level, with only key options such as: DVD entertainment system, 4WD/2WD, and a bench instead of captain chairs as the second row. Other features which came standard were a ten-speaker Bose system, DVD-based navigation system, leather trim for all seats, dual-climate control, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, and an adaptive cruise control system. A Precrash system was a unique feature in the market as well.
Since the demise of the Q45 (which was priced above the QX56) after 2006, the QX56 was the most expensive Infiniti sold in North America and was Infiniti's only full-size vehicle.
In early 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Infiniti QX56 received a minor facelift which included a revised grille, a redesigned interior, a new intelligent key system, more standard equipment, new third-row seats that fold electronically and standard 20-inch chrome wheels. Introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in January 2007, the facelifted model went on sale in April 2007.
After the 2010 model year, the QX56 and Armada no longer share the same body, as the first-generation Armada continued to be produced in the United States until the 2015 model year, while the second-generation QX56 switched to the body used by the Y62 Patrol.

Common Infiniti Qx56 problems
The Infiniti QX56 is a full-size luxury SUV that has been praised for its spacious interior, strong drivetrain, and responsive road handling. However, like any vehicle, the QX56 is not without its common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Strange noises from the timing chain: Some owners of the Infiniti QX56 have reported hearing strange noises coming from the timing chain. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out or damaged components, improper tension, or lack of lubrication. In some cases, the timing chain may need to be replaced entirely.

This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including exposure to the elements, poor quality paint, or improper application. In some cases, the paint may need to be touched up or repainted entirely to address this issue.
- Faulty rear power door: The rear power door of the Infiniti QX56 is another component that has been known to cause problems for some owners. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out or damaged components, low fluid levels, or improper maintenance.
- Airbag issues: Recalls for airbag issues are one of the most common problems in Infinitis. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty sensors, wiring issues, or manufacturing defects. In some cases, the airbags may need to be replaced entirely to address this issue.

Infiniti Qx56 2011
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-05
- VIN: JN8AZ2NE0B9
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: A subframe is a key structural component of every car. As such, it stands to reason that it should last as long as the car itself. Doing much research on this model suspension and subframes become rusted as I didn’t know this when purchasing making it very unsafe . I experienced being involved in almost 2 accidents. Very dangerous. Subframe split in half and suspension. Something needs to be done as a lot of people are going thru this issue and Infiniti slogan claims “new horizons” by no means new horizon going to heaven by driving their vehicles.

- Summary: There was previous recall on this vehicle, 10V-074 (Infiniti #R1011) for a fuel sender problem, causing the fuel gauge to be inaccurate. Infiniti says it was fixed in 2010. Unfortunately, I am having the exact same problem now, and have run out of gas twice because of it. Infiniti said they can't help because it was already fixed. Safety issue because running out of fuel while driving is dangerous. Both times has been on an interstate. It was a previously reported recall and "fixed" but has failed again. Infiniti says they won't fix it again.

This is a serious safety issue which Nissan/Infiniti should take care of.

Your Infiniti QX56 sounds like a great choice! I'm glad to hear that it's more comfortable than your previous SUVs and that you're enjoying the engine power. It's unfortunate that you experienced a gear shift problem, but it's great that the dealer was able to fix it within 24 hours. Overall, it sounds like you made a great purchase!

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned having three kids and your wife not wanting a minivan. I wanted to suggest the QX56 as a great option for a luxury SUV that can accommodate your family. It's packed with features and is a fantastic value for the price. The best part? All the bells and whistles are included in the price, except for nav and Tech Package. Unlike other companies that charge extra for options, the QX56 won't break the bank. Let me know if you have any questions!

I am really impressed with the styling and performance of this unit. The interior is spacious and the instrument panel is strategically designed and functional. The ride is outstanding. This is actually my second Infiniti.

After considering the Lexus, Cadillac, and GMC SUV trucks, I ultimately chose the Infinity, and it was the best decision I ever made. I have put 150,000 miles on my Chevy Suburban, but the drive of the QX is quiet, smooth, and luxurious. I have not encountered any problems with the mechanics or finishes of the vehicle, both inside and out. The GPS is incredibly user-friendly, and the sound system is wonderful. Working with Infinity has been a breeze, and their system of loaner cars makes normal maintenance hassle-free. The seats are easy to maneuver, and the configurations provide a lot of flexibility. The only drawback is the gas mileage.

The vehicle has been an amazing experience. The ride is exceptional, with power to spare. Comfort level is high and quality is what you would expect from an Infiniti. You even get numerous compliments from strangers! The only issue is that the temperature controls can be a bit confusing, and the A/C sometimes gets turned on unknowingly.

Where do I even start? The car started having problems at around 60K miles when it was only 5 years old. Despite using mostly premium fuel from Chevron, the car is now 12 years old and has only 82K miles. It has never been in an accident, is not a lemon, and does not have a salvage title. Let's begin with the issues. Firstly, the engine makes a valve clicking/chattering noise under certain driving conditions, which is still ongoing. Although Infiniti sent a notice saying that our model/year car doesn't need an upgrade, I suspect that this valve noise is related to the failing timing chain, which is a common issue with these cars. Secondly, the driver side catalytic converter went out, which is also a common problem. Catalytic converter replacement costs around $2000 for each side. Under the EPA's Federal CLEAN AIR ACT Law, every car manufacturer must take responsibility and fix everything related to the exhaust system of a vehicle, including catalytic converters, when the vehicle is under 8 years old and has less than 80K miles. I contacted Infiniti when the car was over 8 years old but had less than 80K miles. Even though I had proof that the problem started when the car was 6 years old and had only 65K miles on it, they simply refused to acknowledge that such a thing existed, let alone service it. Thirdly, the A/C compressor went out at around 62K miles. Fourthly, the front passenger right side air vent broke. Fifthly, the driver side air mixer that mixes the A/C and the hot air to give you your desired air temperature broke. Sixthly, both front driver side and passenger side grip handles broke multiple times. These are the grip handles that you grab to get into the car - and we're not overweight people either. It's just that these things are very poorly designed to begin with and are made of very cheap plastic. Lastly, the front driver side and passenger side grip handles broke multiple times. These are the grip handles that you grab to get into the car - and we're not overweight people either. It's just that these things are very poorly designed to begin with and are made of very cheap plastic. The driver side sun visor has broken. The plastics at the base of the windshield wipers, between the hood and the windshield, are crumbling. There seems to be something loose or broken in the joints of the front suspension. Every time we drive over a bump or dip diagonally, the suspension thumps or clicks. It's worth noting that we never drove this car off-road. The windshield wiper pump motor has failed. A few electrical components have been shorting out, causing the A/C buttons to not respond as they should. The parking collision warning sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The fuel gauge needle sometimes jumps up way beyond its markings, usually in the FULL direction, when the gas tank is half or quarter full. All four fender plastic trim pieces have either warped or come off from their clips. The trunk door sometimes stops working completely, no matter which button(s) I press to open or close it. However, I have learned to fix it by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Did I leave anything out? Yes, there are other relatively minor things such as door seals or clips that are breaking and failing, but I'll leave those out for now.

This vehicle has unfortunately had several issues since its purchase, including scratches, flaws, and rust. The DVD player and differentials also experienced problems within a short period of time. Additionally, the key fobs have been inconsistent in their functionality. Despite these challenges, I have confidence in the quality of Infiniti vehicles and believe that these issues can be resolved with proper attention and care.

After reading all the other reviews, I'm starting to believe that I may have received a faulty vehicle. While my driver's seat is comfortable, the other six seats are not. During the winter, I struggle to get into the car as the handles become frozen shut (despite living in Long Island where temperatures are not extremely cold). This SUV is unfortunately one of the top 5 fuel guzzlers. Additionally, the wood pieces tend to fall out of the doors when closing them. Like most other SUVs, opening the windows feels like taking off in a plane, but these windows are by far the worst in its class.

The truck is amazing! Congratulations on your purchase! I understand that you needed to replace your 07 EXT due to a baby on the way and safety was a top priority. It's great to hear that the truck was able to protect you and your wife during a dangerous situation. Adding a remote starter and an I-Pod attachment sounds like a great idea! It's always nice to have some extra features that make your life easier. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I recently upgraded to the 08 QX56 and was excited about the sound system with a built-in hard drive for all my music. However, I was disappointed to find out that the hard drive can only be loaded by recording CDs, which takes a long time. Unfortunately, I no longer have any CDs and the Compact Flash Medium is not very user-friendly. I couldn't find any information about this limitation on the Infiniti website or marketing materials, and the salespeople didn't seem to know much about it either. It's also worth noting that the system only has a single CD player. Personally, I wouldn't pay extra for this feature and would recommend going for the Armada instead. On a positive note, I haven't experienced any brake issues with my new car. Thanks for listening!
