Infiniti Q70 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti Q70 and Q70L is a line of mid-size luxury (executive) cars from Nissan luxury division Infiniti. Essentially an update to the Infiniti M series with minor cosmetic changes, the Q70 name was introduced to reflect Infiniti's updated "Q" nomenclature.

First generation

The Chinese model went on sale in 2012.

In 2013, the entire Infiniti line was renamed, with the M sedans becoming the Q70; this reflected the model's relative position in the Infiniti lineup, rather than the engine displacement as had previously been used.

US models went on sale in 2014 model year vehicles. Early models included 3.7, 3.7 AWD, 5.6, 5.6 AWD, Hybrid.

Common Infiniti Q70 problems

The Infiniti Q70, a luxury sedan produced by Nissan's luxury division, has faced several issues based on user complaints and reviews. The 2015 model appears to be the most problematic, with powertrain issues being the most common problem.

Powertrain Issues
The 2015 Infiniti Q70 has received the most complaints, primarily regarding its powertrain and vehicle speed control.

Transmission Issues
Users have reported transmission issues with the 2015 Infiniti Q70, stating that it is "clunky" and does not shift smoothly, especially when downshifting. This can lead to a less enjoyable driving experience and may require costly repairs.

Infotainment System
The infotainment system of the 2015 Infiniti Q70 has been criticized for being outdated and lacking modern features. Users have expressed disappointment with the system's appearance, likening it to that of a 2005 model, and have noted the need for updates.

Navigation System
The navigation system of the 2015 Infiniti Q70 has also received negative feedback, with users citing its slowness and lack of user-friendliness as significant issues. Additionally, the system does not provide traffic updates, which can be a major inconvenience for drivers.

Fuel Economy
Users have expressed disappointment with the fuel economy of the 2015 Infiniti Q70, stating that they are not getting the mpg they expected. This can lead to higher fuel costs and more frequent fill-ups, which can be a significant concern for drivers.

While individual experiences can vary, these issues make the 2015 model one of the worst Infiniti Q70 years to avoid based on user complaints and reviews.

Infiniti Q70

Is INFINITI Q70 reliable?

Having owned since new, there have been no problems with either with reliability or the quality of finish. The car drives well, has a nice interior and is very comfortable driving on the motorway. The negatives are the (regenerative) brakes which are fierce, inconsistent and in-town, let the car down badly.

What year Q70 to avoid?

Avoid: 2014 Infiniti Q70

At CoPilot, we always recommend avoiding the first production or redesign years due to unforeseen issues for our readers.

Why did INFINITI discontinue the Q70?

Discontinuation. In 2019, Nissan confirmed that the Infiniti Q70, Q70L, Q30, and QX30 models will be discontinued after the 2019 model year due to poor sales as people in Canada, Mexico, and the United States prefer to purchase crossovers and SUVs instead of sedans, hatchbacks, estates, convertibles, and coupes.

Are INFINITI Q70 expensive to maintain?

The average annual repair cost for a INFINITI is $638, which means it has above average ownership costs. The other factors that contribute to INFINITI reliability include an average of 0.7 visits to a repair shop per year and a 10% probability of a repair being severe.

I later took the car to another dealer and was the fuel injectors need to be cleaned but this did not fix the problem.

  • Date Complaint: 2017-01-09
  • VIN: JN1BY1AR1GM
  • Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: BOTH MY WIFE AND I FEEL THAT THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL GETS TOO HOT TO COMFORTABLY HOLD CONTINUOUSLY. THIS ENCOURAGES THE DRIVER TO TURN OFF THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER WHILE DRIVING. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SWITCH IS LOCATED IN THE LOWEST BANK AT THE DRIVERS LEFT KNEE WHERE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. IT IS ALSO IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE SWITCHES TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL, BACK-UP COLLISION INTERVENTION AND WARNING SYSTEMS. ALL OF THE ABOVE COMBINED RESULT IN THE DRIVER HAVING TO DIRECT THEIR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND TO THE LOWER CONTROL PANEL AND, IN ADDITION, MAKES IT LIKELY THAT THEY WILL INADVERTENTLY TURN OFF A VEHICLE SAFETY SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANUAL PROVIDES A RANGE OF 68F - 86F. THE DEALER MEASURED MINE AT 120F. SINCE THIS CLOSELY MATCHED ANOTHER Q70 ON THE LOT IT WAS DEEMED "NORMAL". I SUBMIT THAT IT IS NOT AND BELIEVE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE ATTENDED TO BEFORE IT RESULTS IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

IN SOME CASES, THERE IS NO LIGHT VISIBLE BEYOND 30-40 FEET. THIS CREATES AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN NAVIGATION HILLY ROADS. IN FACT IT IS DOWNRIGHT SCARY TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT NIGHT. SPOKE TO DEALER AND THEY ADJUSTED THE BEAMS AS HIGH AS THEY COULD, BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. JUST LAST NIGHT I ALMOST HIT A DEER. I COULD NOT SEE FAR ENOUGH IN FRONT TO THE CAR. LUCKILY, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME.

Latest negative Infiniti Q70 car reviews

  1. Raul Lesch 2024-11-17

    Vehicle year: 2017

Pros and Cons (After driving it for a year) The exterior/interior design still looks very good, even though it hasn't been updated in a while. The Hermosa Blue exterior and graphite interior is a nice color combination. With the Deluxe Touring Package, Premium Package, Technology Package, and Performance Tire & Wheel Package, my car stickered at $63k. However, it doesn't feel like a premium luxury car when compared to other luxury brands. I purchased my car as a lease turn-in with just 30k miles and brand new tires for $28k in Oct. 2018, which was a great deal. The 20-inch wheels really make the car look outstanding. The car is very spacious with huge legroom in the back. The power rear doors are a nice touch, but it would be great if the front doors had them too. The safety features are very nice and the car has been reliable. Infiniti can improve in the following areas to compete with other premium luxury brands: improve ride quality, suspension, and sound insulation. The interior materials, including the dash/door, all buttons, knobs for volume/heated seats, and leather seat quality, could use an upgrade. The doors need to close more solidly and the car needs a power open/close trunk. The car also needs to be 2-3 inches wider. The stereo, even with the Bose 16 speaker option, is still not up to par when compared to other premium stereos. The key fob design needs to be updated and the keyless entry should allow the doors to unlock without pressing a button. The touch screen, navigation graphics, and cameras could also use some improvement.Needs better resolution for the cameras. You get a lot of car for the money as used but it may not be worth buying new. On a positive note, I traded it in for a 2016 BMW 535xi with a sport package and I am very happy with my purchase. If only the Q70L had a better finish and composure, I would have kept it for a long time.

  2. Alden Mayer 2024-11-11

    Vehicle year: 2017

The vehicle has been experiencing hesitation problems, even after being serviced at two different dealerships. Unfortunately, Dealer 1 did not address the issue and claimed it was normal, while Dealer 2 reprogrammed the transmission software and still could not fix the problem. This has been a frustrating experience, especially when the vehicle struggles to accelerate and has poor gas mileage. Additionally, the handling is affected by uneven pavement and the technology is not up to par with the Q50 series. If you are considering this vehicle, it may be worth waiting for the 2021 Q70 which will have some fresh upgrades. It is important to note that in March 2020, the hesitation problem caused an accident and despite attempts to fix the issue, it was never resolved by Infiniti. For safety reasons, I had to get rid of the vehicle in February 2020.

  3. Cullen Pacocha 2024-11-07

    Vehicle year: 2017

I bought this car back in June 2015, but unfortunately, it has been nothing but a problem since day one. The car pulls violently to the left and right when making lane changes at speeds of 60 mph plus, hesitates or bucks at cruising speeds, and the navigation system is off by miles. Additionally, the heated steering wheel gets hot to the point where it's difficult to hold, and the location of the heated steering wheel switch is dangerous, requiring you to take your eyes off the road and bend over to turn it on or off. The ride is not smooth and it's quite loud. I've noticed that even though I use the same fob all the time, the seat is always in a different position when I unlock and start the car. I had to have the battery replaced just three weeks after purchasing the car. In snow, it handles poorly, even in snow mode, and slides all over the road to the point where I stopped driving it when it snows. When I contacted the dealer where I purchased the car, they said there was nothing wrong with it and blamed it on road conditions, which I find hard to believe. Although this car was marketed as a high-end luxury sedan, it has not lived up to my expectations. Despite all of these issues, the dealer's way of taking care of it was to send me a $200.00 gift card.

The vehicle has been experiencing hesitation problems, even after being serviced at two different dealerships. Unfortunately, Dealer 1 did not address the issue and claimed it was normal, while Dealer 2 reprogrammed the transmission software and still could not fix the problem. This has been a frustrating experience, especially when the vehicle struggles to accelerate and only reaches a maximum speed of 45mph. Additionally, the gas mileage is poor at 15mpg, even when using premium fuel. The handling can be unpredictable on uneven pavement, which can be concerning. However, if you are interested in this vehicle, it may be worth waiting for the 2021 Q70 which will have some fresh upgrades. It's important to note that in March 2020, the vehicle's hesitation problems caused an accident and unfortunately, Infiniti was unable to fix the issue. As a result, I had to get rid of the vehicle in February 2020 as it was too dangerous to drive and posed a risk to my safety and others.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2017 Q70L! It sounds like the cabin is very spacious and the technology is top-notch with all the bells and whistles. While the ride is good, it would be even better if it were a little quieter. Overall, it seems like a nice combination of sporty and luxurious. It's a shame they stopped making them.

I absolutely adore this car! I've had the pleasure of owning 2 Lexus, 2 Infiniti (3 now) and a Mercedes S, but I must say, this one might just be my favourite. (Although my 2001 RX300 is still a strong contender!) The Q70L is simply luxurious, stylish, and speedy. One thing that Infiniti consistently gets right is ergonomics - all the buttons are within easy reach and can be used in multiple ways to suit your preferences. It feels like this car was made just for me, with customisable features that allow me to interact with it in the way that I want. As tall people (6' & 6'5

These are great cars! I had an M45, an M56x, and a Q70. However, I am switching to a 2019 car mainly because of its resale value.

I absolutely fell in love with the dark blue car I saw on the showroom floor and knew I had to have it. It was an absolute blast to drive in Colorado, especially on mountain passes. It even handled a foot of snow with ease when I drove up Berthud pass at 11K feet. I leased it for a while, but made the mistake of turning it in for a Porsche Cayanne. However, it was incredibly comfortable for the long haul drive from Denver to Florida, which took 23 hours. Whether it was for everyday city driving or zooming up the mountain, this car was fantastic and I really miss it. I recently turned in my Porsche and purchased a used AWD Q70 with a big V8. I can't wait for it to arrive!
