The Mazda RX-8 is a sports car manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda between 2003 and 2012. It was first shown in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show. It is the direct successor to the RX-7. Like its predecessors in the RX range, it is powered by a rotary Wankel engine. The RX-8 was available for the 2003 model year in most parts of the world.
The Mazda RX-8 utilizes a rotary Wankel engine, and the non-reciprocating piston engine uses a triangular rotor inside a near oval housing, producing from 141 kW (189 hp) and 164 lb⋅ft (222 N⋅m) of torque, to 177 kW (237 hp) and 159 lb⋅ft (216 N⋅m) of torque from launch. A myriad of various drivetrains are available in the Mazda RX-8.
The RX-8 was discontinued for the 2012 model year without a successor. It was removed earlier from the European market in 2010 after the car failed to meet emissions standards. Due to falling sales from Europe coupled with rising Yen prices, Mazda could not justify the continued sale of the RX-8 in other markets. 192,094 units were produced during its 9-year production run.

An event occurred where my RX-8 went into limp mode in the middle of the freeway as i was commuting due a misfire from poor compression, this is more then likely a common event nowadays for RX-8 owners starting at the S1 2004 models with newer models soon to follow the same incident as me. This is completely unsafe especially traveling at 65 MPH

THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO GET MY RX8 REPAIRED I WAS TOLD I HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR OVER AN HOUR TO THE SHOP TO GET AIRBAG FIXED - THIS IS AFTER I RECEIVED A VERY GRAPHIC POSTCARD SHOWING AND TELLING ME HOW I WILL BE INJURED OR KILLED IF I DON'T GET MY CAR REPAIRED. I AM TRYING TO GET THIS CAR REPAIRED, HOWEVER I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR OVER AN HOUR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN SOUTH TEXAS HEAT AND HUMIDITY IN ORDER TO MAKE THE REQUIRED 100% COMPLIANCE EASY FOR TAKATA THERE ARE MULTIPLE OTHER RECALLS ON THIS CAR, INCLUDING ON THE ENGINE THAT I HAVE REPLACED 4 TIMES. DEALERS WERE TOLD TO INSTALL THE OLD ENGINES THAT WERE IN THEIR INVENTORY AND NOT INSTALL THE NEW DESIGN. THE OLD ENGINES CONTINUED TO LOOSE COMPRESSION OVER TIME AND EVEN THOUGH MAZDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100K ON THE VEHICLE, EVENTUALLY I EXCEEDED 100K - AND THE 4TH ENGINE WENT BAD @102K. MAZDA NEVER REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH AN ENGINE THAT DID NOT HAVE COMPRESSION ISSUES. THE DEALERS USED THE SAME ENGINE AND MAZDA WAITED FOR CONSUMERS TO EXCEED THE 100K MILEAGE AND THEN REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL RX8 THAT IS BASICALLY A ROLLING CHASIS BECAUSE IT WILL NOT RUN, OVERHEATS THE FUEL SYSTEM (CAN EXPLODE OR CATCH FIRE), AND AIRBAGS THAT CAN INJURE OR KILL ME AT ANY MOMENT. I CANT EVEN OPEN THE DOOR ON THIS CAR FOR FEAR OF INJURY OR DEATH. IF THE AIRBAGS WERENT AN ISSUE, I CANT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE ENGINE LOOSES COMPRESSION AND POWER AND CAN PUT THE DRIVER IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN TRAFFIC, AND FINALLY IF ALL ELSE WERE FUNCTIONING, THE EXHAUST CAN OVERHEAT THE FUEL TANK CAUSE EXPLOSION AND/OR FIRE. AT ONE POINT THE INTERIOR OF MY TRUNK MELTED. MY CAR HAS ZERO VALUE BECAUSE OF MAZDA AND TAKATA.

These vehicles had their passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is performed. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate one, free of charge. The recall began December 3, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4. Mazda's number for this recall is 2618F. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 13V130, 14V362, 14V773 and 15V869.

- Summary: Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2003-2008 Mazda6, 2004-2008 RX-8, and 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is performed. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began on September 12, 2017. - Consequence: If the fuel pump pipe cracks, fuel may leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

- Consequence: If the ball joint separates, steering control may be lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

- Summary: Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 RX-8 vehicles manufactured April 10, 2003, to February 18, 2008. The affected vehicles have fuel pump sealing rings that may deteriorate due to exposure to heat from the engine or exhaust pipe.
- Consequence: The deteriorated seals may leak fuel, which, in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump sealing ring set and add a thermal insulation pad to the fuel tank, free of charge. The recall began July 31, 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 0516J.

I absolutely adore my RX-8! After years of driving minivans and station wagons, it's a breath of fresh air. While I have had a couple of recall notices, the dealership was quick to handle the issues. The only other concern I have is that the car seems to use oil, but the dealership is documenting the issue just in case. During two road trips, the 'check engine' light came on and the oil was slightly low, which is a bit worrying. However, I'm willing to wait and see because I want this car to be reliable for the long haul.

You can't go anywhere without someone approaching you and asking about the car. It feels like being a Mazda salesman. While passing everyone on the highway, people try to catch a glimpse of the car that just blew their doors off. Sometimes, you let them catch you, especially if they're a cute girl.

This car is an absolute blast to drive! My friend even commented that the handling is as good as riding in an NSX. It's comfortable for daily driving and handles like a dream. While it accelerates decently when pushed, it's not meant to be a stoplight racer. The only minor downsides are that the front drink holders are in a slightly awkward location and the handbrake could be smaller and less pronounced. However, the dealer has already promised to fix any fit and finish detail flaws.

Drives great and handles exceptionally well. The car moves when you move, making it a perfect car for spring, summer, and fall. The only downside is the 0-60 speed, especially when compared to previous RX-7s. However, I can't wait for the Mazdaspeed version!

I had the pleasure of driving my car on 'the dragon', also known as Deal's Gap (www.tailofthedragon.com), and it was quite the experience! I even had two strangers filming me as I drove. The car handles like a dream and is incredibly responsive. With 318 curves in just 11 miles, I can confidently say that I know how this car handles! The attention you get while driving this car is unbelievable, but thankfully most people know better than to try and race you, especially around corners. I did have an issue with the oil pan, but Mazda issued a service repair order and my dealer took care of it. Now everything is running smoothly. If you're looking for a true high-revving sports car, then the RX-8 is definitely worth considering!

The RX-8 has had some issues, such as being a bit of a gas guzzler and having some problems with the brakes and starting up. There were also some problems with the oil pan, panels popping up, and the undercarriage falling down. However, the dealership has been helpful in addressing these issues and has offered to take a look at the car if any more problems arise. While it has been a bit of a hassle to take time off work to bring the car in, I appreciate their willingness to help. Overall, I believe the RX-8 has potential and with the right care and attention, it can be a reliable car worth the investment.

This car has some great features, such as its lovely appearance and comfortable driving experience in cool weather. However, it may struggle in certain weather conditions, such as driving in snow, and may experience some rattling. Additionally, in very hot weather, the car's performance may suffer, but with some adjustments to the AC and fan, it can still be manageable. The heat for the feet in cold weather could also be improved. Overall, while there have been some challenges, I have enjoyed my time with this car and look forward to the end of the lease.

The car has only 1500 miles on it, yet it has already become a nightmare due to foam in the oil causing repeated issues. Despite taking it back to the dealership/manufacturer at 1K, they were unable to identify the problem and only changed the oil. Unfortunately, the foam returned at 1.4K, and the engine even shut down on me prior to this. The constant oil light only adds to the frustration. While the dealership/manufacturer have yet to find a solution, I am confident that they will resolve the issue soon. In the meantime, I will continue to drive the car and make payments as needed.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my RX-8. When I first got it, I was really excited to have a sports car. However, I noticed that over time, the car seemed to have lost some of its horsepower. It was a bit disappointing to see that the 0-60 time had gone from 5.9 seconds to 7.2 seconds as tested by Mazdaspeed. Overall, I still enjoy driving my RX-8, but I was hoping for a bit more power. I previously owned an RX-7 and had a great experience with it. However, my experience with the RX-8 has been quite different. Unfortunately, the car has been towed 5 times in the last six months and the battery has had to be replaced. Mazda informed me that the initial batteries were not strong enough for the car. Additionally, the car has a tendency to flood and requires several days to become operable again. If you live in the north east or anywhere with snow, it may be difficult to operate the Mazda 8 during the winter months. Despite these issues, I am fortunate to lease the car and can return it to Mazda.
