2007 Infiniti M35 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti M is a line of mid-size luxury (executive) cars from the Infiniti luxury division of Nissan. From 2013 (model year 2014) on it has been marketed as the Infiniti Q70, reflecting the company's new naming scheme.

The first iteration was the M30 Coupé/Convertible, which were rebadged JDM Nissan Leopard. After a long hiatus, the M nameplate was used for Infiniti's mid-luxury sedans (executive cars). First was the short-lived M45 sedan, a rebadged version of the Japanese-spec Nissan Gloria. The next generations, the M35/45 and M37/56/35h/30d, became the flagship of the Infiniti brand and are based on the JDM Nissan Fuga.

First generation (1989–1992)

The Infiniti M30 was a 2-door coupé based on the Japanese market Nissan Leopard (chassis code F31). It was launched in 1989 for the 1990 model year as a luxury coupe alternative to the Infiniti Q45, and was intended to be an alternative to the Lexus SC and Acura Legend coupe for the North American market.

Unlike its competitors that were designed with the American market in mind and were launched as brand-new models, the M30 was based on a somewhat dated platform that was originally designed for the Japanese market; when the Leopard was imported to the United States, few changes were made to the exterior but the interior was revised to better suit American tastes; a leather interior was standard in the M30, and several features in the Leopard such as a center-mounted television screen and a digital instrument cluster weren't available in the M30 as those features were perceived as gimmicks in western car markets.

The M30's angular design aesthetics and on-road performance were viewed as outdated, especially considering a redesigned Acura Legend coupe was launched in 1991. The interior came in for criticism for its outdated ergonomics and lack of room. While the Japanese-market Leopard had received a new dashboard along with the 1988 facelift, economics precluded making a left-hand-drive version of the new dashboard and the M30 was instead fitted with the LHD version of the R31 Skyline's rectilinear dashboard, first presented in 1985.

The M30 made up for these deficiencies in its somewhat lower price; whereas the 1990 Acura Legend coupe started at $27,325 before options and the 1990 BMW 325i started at $24,650 before options, the M30 started at $23,500, and had no factory options, per Infiniti's pricing structure used at the time. Dealerships offered an in-car cellular telephone and in-dash CD player as optional accessories, amongst other items.

Common 2007 Infiniti M35 problems

The Infiniti M35, produced from 2006 to 2010, is a luxury sedan that has been praised for its performance and features. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common issues.

One of the most common issues reported by M35 owners is oil consumption. This problem is particularly prevalent in the first generation of the M35 (2006-2007), with some owners reporting that they have to add a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn piston rings or valve guides.

Another common issue with the M35 is failed catalytic converters. This problem is typically caused by excessive oil consumption, which can cause the converter to become clogged with oil and carbon deposits. When this happens, the converter can fail, causing a significant drop in performance and fuel efficiency.

Transmission problems are also common in the M35, particularly in the first generation of the vehicle. Some owners have reported issues with transmission failure and slipping, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including low transmission fluid levels or worn transmission components.

Suspension issues are another common problem in the M35, with owners reporting issues such as suspension noise and premature wear of the bushings. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn suspension components or improper alignment.

Fuel system issues are also common in the M35, with owners reporting issues such as fuel pump failure and fuel gauge inaccuracies. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn fuel pump components or faulty fuel sensors.

Electrical issues are also common in the M35, with owners reporting issues such as malfunctioning power windows and keyless entry systems. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty wiring or blown fuses.

To avoid these issues, it is recommended that M35 owners perform regular maintenance and promptly address any reported problems. Regular oil changes, transmission fluid changes, and brake inspections can help prevent premature wear and failure. Additionally, having the car inspected by a qualified mechanic before purchasing can help identify potential issues and save the owner from costly repairs down the road.

  • Consequence: In this fail-safe mode, throttle valve deposits may cause the engine to stall when the vehicle is coming to a stop or at idle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the accelerator pedal assembly and reprogram the engine control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during November 2013. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Negative 2007 Infiniti M35 car reviews

  1. Mateo Abshire 2024-08-07

The car has a taxi-cab feel and sound, but unfortunately, the ride is harsh and there are rattles galore. The pivoting headlights do not make much of a difference in visibility, and the heated seats do not work. Additionally, the optional Bose stereo with 14 speakers is no better than the standard radios found in most cars.

  2. Gunnar Toy 2024-06-10

With approximately 15,000 miles on my Nov '06 purchased M35 Sport, I have been generally satisfied with the vehicle. However, the front sport seats and fuel economy have been a source of disappointment. Despite the car's enjoyable driving experience and numerous impressive features, the piping and stitching on the upper portion of the front seats have caused me pain and stiffness in my shoulder and neck. To improve fuel economy, a 6-speed automatic transmission would be a valuable addition to this car. Unless a 6-speed auto transmission is included, I cannot consider purchasing another M35 Sport.

UPDATE: Hi everyone, I wanted to share some good news regarding our M35 AWD. Back in March, I wrote a review where I expressed my concerns about the poor gas mileage. However, I am happy to report that after driving around 9K miles, the gas mileage has significantly improved! I now get a solid 21 mpg of mixed driving and 22.5 mpg on the highway, which is great. I have achieved this by driving conservatively and using premium fuel. Although I still believe that the AWD is responsible for a 2 mpg loss, I would encourage new car buyers to consider rear wheel drive cars. With modern traction control, there is very little real-world benefit to AWD. And given the obvious need to conserve fuel, AWD just can't be justified, in my humble opinion. Lastly, I would like to mention that the nature of this car can make it tiring to drive. Thank you for reading!

  4. Beau Hyatt 2024-03-26

In the first four thousand miles, nothing broke or malfunctioned. However, the gas mileage is very poor, averaging only 16-18 mpg. Additionally, the rear end lands heavily and loudly over small bumps. The Bluetooth phone feature is also limited, as it doesn't easily read numbers from the phone's contact list. While the cornering is decent, it doesn't quite match up to the top German brands.

  5. Angel Hills 2024-02-25

I purchased an Infiniti M35X because of its spacious interior, but after driving it for a few thousand miles, I noticed that the engine was quite noisy and had an annoying riddling sound. I took it to the dealer and they changed the intake, which solved the problem. However, changing the exhaust did not help. The dealer explained that this was a characteristic of the car, which was disappointing. I am considering trading it for a different car. In my opinion, it may be worth investing a little more in a higher quality car to avoid spending time at the dealership or on the phone dealing with car issues. However, this is just my personal experience and opinion. Thank you for considering my thoughts.

Positive 2007 Infiniti M35 car reviews

  1. Americo Durgan 2024-11-20

I recently purchased my first import car and I must say, it's been quite the experience! As someone who has always been a GM guy, I was hesitant to try something new, but I'm so glad I did. I took my Caddy in for service and stumbled upon this beauty at the same dealer. Despite the freezing cold and snowy weather, the salesman suggested taking it for a spin and I'm so glad I did. The 4-wheel drive made it a breeze to navigate through the snow, which is a huge plus where I live in Wisconsin. The car also boasts a great heater (almost too good) and heated (and cooled) seats that make driving it an absolute pleasure. The performance and traction control are top-notch, although it does come at a cost at the pump. Premium fuel is a must and it does tend to drink it up! Despite this, I find the car extremely comfortable and it gets a lot of attention around town for its stylish design. The only downside is that the closest dealer is over 50 miles away, making dealer service a bit of a challenge. I rarely drive this car very much as I like keeping it sparklingly clean, but when I do, it always turns heads and garners compliments. I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed a car as much as this one. To date, I haven't had any repair issues or problems and it starts up and runs like a dream every time. I'm closing in on 70k miles and I may hit that milestone this year. I'll be sure to keep you updated!

  2. Johnson Harvey 2024-11-19

The technology is really awesome! It's so much fun to use. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance, it merges onto our freeways with no hesitation. The ride is excellent and the handling is surprisingly good.

  3. Enoch Conn 2024-11-16

I've only had the car for 2 months, but it was certified pre-owned with only 6400 miles. I was a bit skeptical about the low mileage, but everything seems to be in order. The dealer even went above and beyond by repolishing all 4 scraped rims, fixing the driver door actuator, and rear door plate. It did take almost two weeks, but I'm satisfied with the outcome. I previously owned a Volvo (174K) which made me a bit nervous about the high rpm revving (3-4K) of this vehicle when going from a stop to 25-30 mph. However, other than that, I'm satisfied with the car, including the radio, GPS, and A/C. I knew the mileage would be low going in, and I've put 2K miles on it in the 8 weeks I've had it. I'm hopeful that it will last as long as my Volvo did. Only time will tell!

  4. Adelbert Mohr 2024-11-13

Don't expect great mileage, especially in city driving. But, other than that, this car has been the best I've owned in a long time. I hope the car I replace it with will be as good to me as this one has been. I was especially pleased with the service I received during the recent airbag recall. It's always a pleasure to visit my Infiniti dealer, and I'll definitely consider them first when thinking of replacing my M35.

  5. Luther Labadie 2024-11-05

I recently purchased an Infinity on a 39-month lease turn-in. The car was built in 2009 and I bought it on April 22nd, 2011 with only 16,812 miles on it. Let me tell you, this car is a beast! I enjoy every second of driving it.
