2000 Chevrolet Venture problems
The Chevrolet Venture is a minivan produced by General Motors for the 1997 to 2005 model years. The Chevrolet Venture, along with most of its General Motors minivan siblings, was built at GM's Doraville, Georgia, assembly plant.
Use of name
The Venture name was first used on a 1988 Chevrolet concept car, in this case a full-sized four-door sedan more aerodynamic than the 1991-1996 Chevrolet Caprice.
History
The Venture was introduced in 1996 for the 1997 model year as a replacement for the radically styled Lumina APV. In the United States, it was also sold as the Oldsmobile Silhouette and the Pontiac Trans Sport, which was later renamed as the Pontiac Montana for 1999 (2000 in Canada). The Venture came in three trim levels, the base, LS, and LT. The base models of the Venture were short wheelbase models which came equipped with cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with fixed head restraints, a 2nd-row 2-passenger bench seat, and steel wheels. The LS came in both short and long wheelbases, and offered aluminum wheels, a varied seating configuration, adjustable head restraints, side airbags, power windows (optional on the base models), and a remote keyless entry system. The LT model was an upscale of the LS and was exclusively a long wheelbase model and offered a power driver seat (optional on the base and LS models), optional leather seats, a roof rack (optional on the base and LS models), and a driver side sliding door (optional on the base and LS models from 1997 to 1999). The anti-lock brakes were standard on all Ventures from 1996 to 2002, but became optional on the base models later on.
The Venture and its siblings were powered by GM's 3.4 L LA1 V6, rated at 180 hp (134 kW). After 1999, the engine was slightly redesigned to produce an extra 5 hp (4 kW), for a total of 185 hp (138 kW), and the alarm system for seatbelts, door ajar, low fuel, etc. have been changed. All Ventures used a four-speed automatic transmission. The Venture was one of the few minivans to have an 8-passenger seating configuration as an option when most minivans seated up to 7 passengers. In 2000, the driver side sliding door became standard on all trim levels, when the passenger side only sliding door models of minivans have rapidly fallen out of favor since the 1996 models of Chrysler minivans. The exterior was refreshed in 2001, a back-up alarm was added to indicate possible obstacles behind the vehicle, and all-wheel drive was introduced in 2002. Also for 2002 was a new steering wheel equivalent to the 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala, replacing the steering wheel equivalent to the 1995-2001 Chevrolet Lumina. New for this generation, cabin air filters were installed, and the filters can be accessed from behind an access panel easily accessed from inside the glove compartment.
The optional 2-3-2 seating configuration was dropped in favor of the more conventional 2-2-3 and 2-3-3 seating configurations. The 2-3-3 was the standard for the Chinese-made Buick GL8, and a 10-seats arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration was used in a Chinese-made version of the Chevrolet Venture for export to the Philippines and Latin America (where it sold alongside the U.S. Venture) where 10-seaters are favored with lower taxes. Reviews and sales were generally lukewarm, especially about the relatively narrow cabin due to being designed for European roads. Models came in both short and long wheelbases, and with optional all-wheel drive. The third row bench seat was designed to fold flat (introduced for 2001 and available on LS and Warner Bros. models), but forming a higher floor unlike the Honda, Mazda and Nissan minivans that folded into a well behind the third row.
The Venture was replaced after 2005 by the Chevrolet Uplander, which was essentially a facelift with one long wheelbase configuration, and a longer nose which served chiefly to improve crush distance and styling more like an SUV. Only the long-wheelbase Venture was sold for 2005 in the US but the short-wheelbase was still offered in Canada. Production of the Chevy Venture ended on June 24, 2005.

Common 2000 Chevrolet Venture problems
The Chevrolet Venture, produced during the late 1990s and early 2000s, has been known to have several common problems. These issues are based on complaints from owners and are primarily related to engine problems, electrical issues, and stalling.
- Electrical Issues: The 2000 Chevy Venture has been known to have electrical problems, including blown fuses and issues with the ignition control module. These issues can cause the vehicle to lose power, stall, or fail to start altogether. In some cases, the battery may not be able to maintain a charge, leading to further electrical problems. These issues can be difficult to diagnose and may require the replacement of various electrical components.
- Stalling: Some owners of the 2000 Chevy Venture have reported that the vehicle stalls out when driving at higher speeds, typically around 40 miles per hour. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including fuel delivery problems, ignition issues, or vacuum leaks. In some cases, the problem may be intermittent and may require extensive diagnostic work to identify the root cause.
These common problems with the Chevrolet Venture can be frustrating for owners, particularly if they occur frequently or require expensive repairs. It is important for owners to stay on top of regular maintenance and to address any issues as soon as they arise to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of the vehicle.
Why is my Chevy Venture overheating?
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Venture is overheating are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat. Coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-26
- VIN: 1GNDX03E8YD
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: In January 2022, I noticed white smoke coming from the engine and a mechanic said it was the water pump that needed to be replaced, so I have it replaced. Recently, I noticed the same white smoke coming from the engine and took it back to the same mechanic who installed the water pump. The mechanic said it was the intake manifold that caused the white smoke. I decided to take it to another mechanic to see if the first diagnosis was correct and that mechanic confirmed the first mechanic's diagnosis and my previous experience with another GM vehicle (1997 Vhevy Lumina) that had the exact same problem: water pump went out and intake manifold also started to fail until the Lumina's engine was fried.

- Summary: MY DAUGHTER NOTICED THAT SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO KEEP AIR IN ONE MASTERCRAFT A/S IV TIRES. AS WE LOOKED AT THE TIRE TOGETHER SHE HEARD AIR ESCAPING, AND WHEN WE TOUCHED THE AREA OF THE LEAK, THE LEAK GOT LOUDER. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FARM & FLEET (WHERE THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED & INSTALLED AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY ARE GOOD AT KEEPING UP WITH WARRANTIES) TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAS "DRY ROT", AND I WOULD HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER BRAND AS THE MASTERCRAFT A/S IV HAVE BEEN "DISCONTINUED", AND I HAVE NO OTHER RECOURSE. I ASKED IF THEY OR I COULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD NO AS THE TIRES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED AND ARE NO LONGER MANUFACTURED. FURTHER, I WAS TOLD THAT ONLY 25% OF THE TREAD REMAINS. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED 9/08/08 & ONLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY, 20,806 MILES ON THEM, BUT THE MANUFACTURER RATES THEM AT 50,000 MILES. THE LOW MILES MAKES SENSE AS WE RARELY PUT ON MORE THAN 7K MILES ON ANY OF OUR VEHICLES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE MATERIAL OF THE TIRE(S). *TR

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

- Summary: I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY VENTURE. I BROUGHT IT USED IN 1998. SINCE HAVING IT I HAVE NO REAR WINDOW WIPER. HEAT AND A/C WORK ONLY WHEN PLACED ON HIGH AND WORK VERY LITTLE. DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW KEEPS FALLING AND WE HAVE REPLACED THE REGULATOR ON IT, AND OUR GAS GAUGE DOESN'T WORK. I KNOW OF AT MINIMUM 5 PEOPLE THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THESE SAME ISSUES. I AM AT A LOSS WHEN ALMOST WEEKLY WE HAVE TO TAKE DOOR PANEL OFF TO GET WINDOW BACK ON TRACK WHEN IT RAINS YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE NEAR MY CAR BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE AN EARFULL. LAST YEAR IN APRIL I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE A HEAD GASKET BECAUSE THAT BLEW. OH AND RUNNING OUT OF GAS IS JUST NUTS WITH ALL THE STUFF WE HAVE OUT THERE IN THE WORLD GM SHOULD KNOW HOW TO BUILD A GAS GAUGE. NOT HAVING HEAT IN THE WINTER ISN'T MUCH FUN EITHER. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY. WELL LETS START WITH THE GAS GAUGE THE OTHER STUFF IS MINOR COMPARED TO THE REST. *TR

STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-02-16
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: WE OWN A 2000 CHEVY VENTURE THAT WE BOUGHT USED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. WHEN WE BOUGHT IT, THE BUTTON FOR THE DOORS TO OPEN AUTOMATICALLY DIDN'T WORK AS WELL AS THE GAS GAUGE. SINCE, WE HAVE REPLACED THE HEADS, THE WATER PUMP, RACK AND PINION, WHEEL HUB, TIE ROD END, AS WELL AS REPLACING THE HEAD LIGHTS EVERY COUPLE MONTHS AND NOW HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS.WHEN WE HAD THE HEADS REPLACED, THEY FLUSHED THE RADIATOR AND WE ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMING ON AND THE FLUID LOOKING CLOUDY. THEY TOLD US THAT THE CLOUDINESS SOMETIMES HAPPENS, BUT STILL DOESN'T EXPLAIN THE LIGHT COMING ON SAYING ITS LOW!!! WE WERE ALSO NOTIFIED THAT THE ABS BOX IS BAD AND NEEDS REPLACED...ALSO, SOMETIMES THERE IS WATER THAT LEAKS FROM THE WEATHER GAUGE OR THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO THE TRACTION SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND ACTUALLY SHUTS THE SYSTEM OFF WHEN YOU TURN THE VAN ON, THIS MAYBE DUE TO THE BAD ABS BOX BUT HAS BEEN DOING THIS LONGER THEN THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON. THERE IS ALSO RUST ALONG THE VAN BELOW THE SLIDING DOORS. THE LOCKS ALSO SOMETIMES STICK WHEN USING THE KEYPAD OR THE ELECTRICAL LOCK BUTTON INSIDE THE VAN. WE CAN'T WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS VAN! JUST HOPE WE HAVE BETTER LUCK WITH OUR NEXT VEHICLE. *TR
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-09-20

DOES NOT HAVE AUTO STARTER THAT SOME PEOPLE PUT ON CARS TO START IN COLD WEATHER.FIRST STARTED THIS IN EARLY A.M. ON WEEKEND WHILE OWNER STILL SLEEPING. BEFORE OWNER REALIZED IT WAS THEIR VEHICLE (THEY LIVE IN APT COMPLEX) THEY DROVE THEIR VEHICLE THROUGH OUT DAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. LATER WHEN PARKED IT TRIED AGAIN WHEN OWNER WAS IN APT. TOOK TOO AUTO SHOP AND STARTER WAS REPLACED . DROVE THROUGHOUT DAY AGAIN WITHOUT INCIDENT THINKING PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. LATER ABOUT 10:30 P.M. IT TRIED TURNING OVER, REPEATING AT 2:30 A.M. THEN EVERY 15-20 MINUTES UNTIL 5:30 A.M. WENT BACK TOO SHOP TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK. SHOP IS NOT SURE WHAT PROBLEM IS EXCEPT SOMETHING SOMEWHERE ELECTRICAL., BUT IF STARTS ITSELF COULD CAUSE FIRE. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-08-08
- VIN: 1GNDU03E2YD
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: LAST WINTER I LEFT MY 2000 CHEVROLET VENTURE VAN (WITH A 3.4 LITER V6 ENGINE) IDLING FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES WHILE I WORKED OUTSIDE IT. WHEN I GOT BACK INSIDE, THE HEAT GAUGE WAS ABOUT 3/4 THE WAY TO HOT, AND NEITHER OF THE (2) ELECTRIC RADIATOR COOLING FANS WERE RUNNING. THE ENGINE RAN COOL FOR NORMAL UNCONJESTED TRAFFIC AFTER THIS. IN MID SUMMER THE HEAT GAUGE AGAIN WENT 3/4 HOT WHILE I WAS IN SLOW MOVING STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC. TO PREVENT HEAT DAMAGE, I RAN THE HEATER FULL BLAST IN MID 80'S WEATHER; -NO FUN! I TROUBLESHOOT THE RADIATOR FANS CONTROL SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT THE PCM (POWER-TRAIN CONTROL MODULE; (COMPUTER)) WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. I REPLACED THE PCM MYSELF WITH AN AFTER-MARKET, REFLASHED (REPROGRAMMED WITH GM UP-TO-DATE SOFTWARE) UNIT, BUT I COULDN'T GET THE PCM TO DO ITS 'CRANKSHAFT VARIATION RELEARN PROCEDURE' WITH MY EQUIPMENT, SO I TOOK THE VAN TO MY GM DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DONE, AND ALSO TO HAVE THE COOLING FANS TESTED. MY DEALERSHIP TESTED THE FANS AND FOUND THEY NOW WORKED, FINISHED THE PCM WORK, BUT THEY ALSO SAID THAT IT OVERHEATED AND BLEW COOLANT RIGHT OUT OF THE RESERVOIR; THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH BLOWN HEAD GASKETS ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR PARTS. (IT DOESN'T SOUND BLOWN, HAVE COOLANT IN THE OIL, OR PUT EXHAUST IN THE COOLANT THAT I CAN SEE.) THEY QUOTED $1147.50 LABOR & $390. PARTS, & WHATEVER IT COST FOR A MACHINE SHOP TO CORRECT ANY HEAD WARPAGE, TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO ADVISED MY WIFE (WHO BROUGHT IN THE VAN), THAT THE VAN SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEM IS FIXED. I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO TOLD ME THAT MOST EVERYONE WHO HAD THIS 3.4 LITER GM ENGINE HAS HAD TO HAVE THE HEAD GASKET REPLACED. ONE PERSON SAID THAT THEY THOUGHT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO SOMETHING SINCE THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE SO WIDE SPREAD. I SUSPECT THAT THE PCM FAILING TO TURN ON THE COOLING FANS WAS WHAT CAUSED THIS HEAD GASKET FAILURE IN MY CASE. DO YOU HAVE OTHER PEOPLE REPORTING HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS? *TR

It's been a year since we got the van and we absolutely love it! It's spacious, powerful, and runs smoothly. Before this, we had a 4wd Mazda MPV. We decided to purchase a service warranty for the van because we knew that the intake manifold gasket had a reputation for failing around 60k-80k. Unfortunately, after 8-9 months, the auto-sliding door started to malfunction. We took it to the dealership to get it fixed and while we were there, we asked them to check the intake manifold gasket. They found that it was leaking, but thankfully, we were able to get it replaced under the warranty. Although the plastic parts in the interior could be stronger, we still think it's a great van overall!

I purchased this vehicle as a certified used car from a GM dealership. It has been a great choice for my family, especially during our long trips. The car is very comfortable and spacious, making it a great fit for everyone.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I bought the van back in February 2003 when it only had 12,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, it seems like it's been having some trouble shifting lately and I'm a bit worried that the transmission might be on its way out. Would you happen to have any advice on what I should do next?

I'm really glad with my Chevy Venture, especially when it comes to the drive, sound, and relaxation. However, I'm a bit disappointed with the materials used for the seating. It seems like we constantly have to take it in for some kind of repair. Since it's a van designed for family use, I would expect the material to be stronger. I guess I was wrong.

You've got yourself a great minivan with fantastic features and a good finish both inside and out. So far, you haven't encountered any issues, except for the power slider. It seems someone tried to close it while it was power closing, which could have been avoided with a warning label!

I bought this van when my three kids were all under the age of 10! We've used it for everything from family vacations to the Grand Canyon and Mt Rushmore, to hauling band equipment and even a deer! I'm planning on keeping it for another 47,000 miles!

This car has had a number of issues, including a blown head gasket, multiple airbag and coolant sensors, fuel pump problems, and brake and tail light issues. Additionally, the A/C blower only works on setting 5 and the radiator fans have stopped working. Despite these challenges, the car has accumulated 84,000 miles. While it has not been the most reliable vehicle, it is important to note that every car has its own unique set of issues. It is important to address these issues as they arise and to stay on top of regular maintenance to ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

My wife and I purchased the 2000 WB Venture after downsizing from a Chevy Astro. We loved the dual doors and power driver side door (when it worked), but unfortunately, we found ourselves frequently back at the dealership for the power sliding door. If you're considering purchasing this van, make sure to check that all recalls have been completed. I recently traded my Venture for an AWD Astro 2002. Goodbye Venture!

After our 1996 Lumina sedan was totaled by a deer, we urgently needed a new car for my wife to drive to work. We have owned 5 Chevrolets before and they all performed wonderfully for us. So, we decided to buy a 2000 van from our hometown dealer, expecting another trouble-free Chevy. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a mistake. We had to replace the rebuilt transmission, infamous intake gasket, water pump, and the ABS stopped working. The headlights fill up with water when it rains, rear a/c quit, and the interior/exterior/headlights/tail lights go on and off at random. Repair shops can't figure out why and it overheats in hills. As a former customer, we have decided not to buy any more GM vehicles again.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my brand new vehicle that I purchased back in September '99. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it since then. By December '99, it had been towed away a total of 3 times due to a faulty transmission short, faulty transmission ball bearing, and faulty EFI. At 44,000 miles, I also experienced a faulty manifold gasket. Additionally, I've noticed some poor fit and trim with small items breaking off, and the vehicle tends to rattle quite a bit. As a result, I'm a bit hesitant to drive it, but I'm trying to explore my options. Thanks for listening!
