Hyundai Palisade problems

The Hyundai Palisade (Korean: 현대 팰리세이드) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company since late 2018, replacing the Maxcruz (also known as Santa Fe XL outside of South Korea) as the flagship SUV under the Hyundai brand.
The term palisade means a fence of defensive stakes or a series of coastal cliffs — the latter recalling the neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles or the nearly forty mile Hudson River palisade, running north from opposite Manhattan.
Overview
The Palisade debuted at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, 2018, having been previewed by Hyundai's Grandmaster concept of June 2018. The Palisade is Hyundai's largest passenger vehicle to date, measuring 4,980 mm (196.1 in) long with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm (114.2 in) inches. It has 21 cu ft (595 L) of cargo space behind the third row and 87 cu ft (2,464 L) with both rows folded down. Like its predecessor, the Palisade features three rows of seating, with seating for up to eight passengers when equipped with a second-row bench seat or seven passengers with the optional second-row captain seat.
The vehicle rated a coefficient drag of 0.33, achieved with an optimised front cooling area with extended internal air guide, aerodynamic underside panels with full front and centre underbody covers, and rear wheel aero deflectors.
Introduction of the right-hand drive model started in December 2020 in Australia and Indonesia. CKD assembly in Russia started in 2020 by Avtotor for domestic sales.

Common Hyundai Palisade problems
Common Problems with the Hyundai Palisade:
- Excessive Vibrations and Shaking: Several owners have complained about increased vibrations while driving their Palisade, particularly at higher speeds around 65 mph. This issue seems present in different models, including the 2022 model year.
- Windshield Cracks Easily: The 2020 Hyundai Palisade has the most overall complaints, and the worst category is windows/windshield problems. The most-reported problem is also with the 2020 Hyundai Palisade for windshield cracks easily, with an average cost to fix of $1,600 and an average mileage of 14,000 mi.
- Cracked Windshield With No Impact: The 2021 Palisade has also been reported to have cracked windshields with no apparent impact, with an average cost to fix of $1,600 and an average mileage of 8,000 mi.
- Rodents Chewed Wires Due To Soy Based Wiring: The 2021 Palisade has been reported to have rodents chewing on wires due to soy-based wiring, with an average cost to fix of $3,200 and an average mileage of 6,000 mi.
- Engine Related Problems: Reported issues for the 2022 Hyundai Palisade include cracking windshield and engine-related problems.
- Poor Interior Design: The 2022 Hyundai Palisade has been reported to have a poor interior design, with the cup holder in the same area as the wireless charger, which can cause spills to hit the charging area, USB, and wire housing. The paint is also reported to be thin and chipping away within a week or two of highway use.
- Engine Overheating Warning: Some 2022 Hyundai Palisade owners have reported getting an engine overheating warning every time they drive over 55 mph.
- Reverse Camera and Sensor Issues: The reverse camera on some 2022 Hyundai Palisade models doesn't show what's behind the car, instead showing what's in front of it. The sensors indicating a collision also keep going off at random, causing the brakes to lock up.
- Wind Noise: Some owners have reported excessive wind noise after going 40 mph and above, making the ride unbearable at times.
- Steering Problem: Some 2023 Hyundai Palisade Limited Edition owners have reported a drift to the right whenever the car is driven, which has not been fixed despite multiple attempts by the dealer.
It's important to note that not all Hyundai Palisade vehicles will experience these issues, and many owners have reported positive experiences with the vehicle. However, these are some of the common problems that have been reported by owners of this car.
Does the Hyundai Palisade have any issues?
Hyundai has issued a safety recall that applies it over 4,000 units of the Palisade built during the 2024 model year. The SUVs included in the campaign could experience a valve spring failure, a problem that can cause major engine damage including puncturing a hole in the block.
What year of Palisade to avoid?
If you're interested in the Hyundai Palisade, it's a good idea to be familiar with the worst years so you can stay away from them. We recommend keeping clear of the 2020 and 2021 years if at all possible. They have the most customer complaints and will cost you an excessive amount to keep in one piece.
How reliable are Hyundai Palisades?
The 2024 Hyundai Palisade has a predicted reliability score of 81 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

Hyundai Palisade 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-18
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-26
- VIN: KM8R4DGE4PU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was approaching a stop sign, slowing down to around ~20 mph, then gently applied the brakes. All of a sudden, the car stared to lurch forward and the steering wheel shuddered violently as the ABS braking appeared to kick in. As the brakes were applied, the vehicle kept bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and it took almost twice as long to stop than it should have. There was a vehicle in front of me and my vehicle was a foot from rear-ending that car despite me slowing in advance and attempting to brake gently. The collision warning system kicked in and I suspect that the vehicle stopped itself, even though I was firmly holding the brake pedal down. My wife experienced te identical situation a week later, so this is becoming very concerning. A quick search on the internet has revealed that many other 2023 & 2024 model year have experienced the same issues, and apparently Hyundai USA is aware of the issue, but do not have a solution to fix it yet.

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-24
- VIN: KM8R7DGEXPU
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: When driving the car normally suddenly there was an extremely loud sound above us. After pulling off the road and inspecting the vehicle we saw that the front sunroof had shattered. Fortunately the bottom cover had been closed else the glass would have fallen on the driver and passengers and very well could have caused an accident and/or injuries. The remaining glass was bowed upwards and there wasn't any foreign objects inside the roof. At the time of the incident there were no other vehicles around us nor were we under any trees or highway structure. We brought the car to the dealer who claimed that something must have impacted the sunroof however that is not the case. The sunroof glass spontaneously just shattered without any warning. There had been no cracks or chips in the sunroof glass at the time.

Vehicle year: 2020
Like some other reviewers, I found that the Palisade has a lot of safety features that can sometimes be a bit intrusive during normal driving. For example, the adaptive cruise control can slow the car down too much when you're trying to overtake, and the stop-start feature can be a bit jerky when the engine restarts. However, I appreciate that there is a button to turn off the stop-start feature, even if you have to do it every time you start the car. The auto-dimming headlights are a nice feature, but it's a shame that you have to activate them every time you turn on the car. It would be great if they could be set to activate automatically. One thing that I find disappointing is that the Palisade doesn't come with power folding mirrors, even on the Limited model. However, there are some features that I absolutely love, such as the heads-up display that shows all the important information right in front of you, and the turn signals that turn your tach into a camera view when you turn left and your MPH gauge into a camera view when you turn right. These features are very handy and make driving the Palisade a pleasure. This feature is only available on the Limited and I give it a 10! Seating is comfortable all around and there are enough cup holders and USB charging ports for 8 plus people. The HVAC is very good and keeps temperatures in the cabin consistent throughout. The LED headlights are an absolute dream and shine brighter than my BMW adaptive HIDs which I thought at the time could never be beaten...these beat it by a lot. The engine is only adequate for the size and heft of this vehicle and I'm hoping future models will incorporate a turbo version of this engine. It needs it, especially if you're going to tow anything close to its rated 5000# towing capacity. That being said, you won't find a more luxurious SUV at this price point anywhere. I shopped the new 2020 Explorer ($62K!!), Toyota Highlander ($48K) and Chevy Traverse ($52K). I also looked at the sister of the Palisade, Telluride, but I preferred the Palisade interior and exterior design a little bit more. One last parting concern about this vehicle is a TSB that just came out for the prop shaft in the AWD models. Unfortunately, my Palisade has the dreaded

Researched for a proper vehicle to fit my family's needs for a couple of months. After reviewing countless 3rd row SUV's, the Palisade was always at the top of my list. Once I was able to find a Palisade to physically review and test out, the decision was clear. I love most everything about it! In fact, I loved it so much that I have one on order for my wife.

I researched and test drove all mid-size 3-row SUVs, and I found that the Palisade was head and shoulders above the rest, both domestic and imported. The drive and comfort were top-notch, and the technology is best-in-class and easy to use. The only issue I noticed while researching was some wind noise while driving at 40+ mph. However, if you have the premium sound system on level 2 sound, or if you have small children (which should be popular for this class of vehicle), you won't even notice it anymore. I highly recommend giving this great rig a test drive, especially if you don't have a biased opinion or loyalty to one brand. You'll be impressed!

I am really pleased with this vehicle overall. I would like to suggest to Hyundai that at this price level, they add auto door close when you leave the car. Apart from that, everything else is great.

In August 2022, I purchased the 2023 Hyundai Pallisade Calligraphy. However, in October 2022, I experienced a dangerous issue while driving on a highway with oncoming traffic. Despite having plenty of time, the car would not accelerate beyond 20 mph, and the RPM quickly shot up to 4000 RPM. This issue persisted throughout the Fall and only resolved when the temperatures warmed up in the following Spring of 2023. Despite my efforts to get it resolved, the service techs were unable to diagnose the issue, and Hyundai refused to cover any costs. If anyone else has experienced this issue, please let me know if you were able to resolve it.

I purchased this vehicle a month ago and was thrilled to finally have a luxury SUV with so many features. However, I have been experiencing a significant amount of wind noise when driving at speeds of 40 mph and above, which can be quite unbearable at times. I am disappointed that I am now stuck with a $50,000 vehicle that has this issue.

Vehicle year: 2023
The car is great overall. I previously owned a 2021 model and recently traded it for a 2023 model with a trailer package. The dash has a clearly marked trailer mode switch, which is very convenient. Unfortunately, I have had to hire or rent another vehicle to pull my work cart to jobs, which is an added expense that I should not be paying. The dealer has been delaying the fix for the recall, and I would appreciate it if they could either buy back my car or provide the fix now. If this issue is not resolved soon, I will have to explore legal options and file a report with the State of Florida.

I've been driving my 2020 Hyundai Palisade for a month now and have already put 2500 miles on it. Overall, I'm really happy with my vehicle, but I have noticed some wind noise coming from both the driver and passenger windows. I took it to a service center and test drove another Palisade, only to find the same issue. It seems to be a common problem with this model. I'm hoping that Hyundai will come up with a solution soon, as I would hate for this to detract from an otherwise great vehicle. It can be particularly bothersome on windy days!

undefinedI was disappointed with the design of the car and the salesman did not inform us of the issues. Unfortunately, a recall was issued for the wipers due to ice and snow build-up causing them to stop working. Additionally, there is a potential issue with an electronic plug that could cause the car to catch fire, leading to a recall in September 2022. While this may be concerning, it is important to note that the issue affects some brand new Kia's as well. It would have been nice if the car had power folding mirrors, which are available in the Korean versions. If you are considering purchasing this car, I recommend testing the wipers beforehand. For me, the potential safety concerns were enough to make me switch to a Toyota.
