Daewoo Lanos 2001 problems
The Daewoo Lanos is a compact / sedan car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Daewoo from 1997 to 2002, and thereafter produced under license agreements in various countries worldwide. It has also been marketed as the Daewoo Sens, ZAZ Sens and ZAZ Lanos in Ukraine, Doninvest Assol and ZAZ Chance in Russia, FSO Lanos in Poland, or Chevrolet Lanos in Ukraine, Russia, and Egypt.
It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and initially featured three body styles: three-door and five-door hatchbacks and a four-door sedan. The Lanos was designated the T100 model code at launch; the T150 code applies to the updated models introduced in 1999. In 2006, a panel van version, produced in Ukraine by ZAZ, was also introduced. The Daewoo Lanos was designed to replace the Daewoo Nexia in the Daewoo line-up and was itself replaced by the Daewoo Kalos.
Production of the Daewoo Lanos ended in 2020.

Common Daewoo Lanos 2001 problems
The Daewoo Lanos, a compact car produced by the South Korean automaker Daewoo, has been known to have several common problems that have been reported by owners of the 2001 model.
One of the most common problems reported by owners is related to the fuel pump. The return isn't working, and even after replacing the fuel pump several times, the problem persists. This issue can lead to a lack of fuel pressure, resulting in engine misfiring or stalling.
Another common problem is the engine misfiring. The number 2 spark plug lead is the most likely cause of the misfiring in older cars, while newer versions are more likely to have a faulty ignition coil. Replacing the faulty spark plug lead or ignition coil should rectify the issue.
The brakes on the Lanos, particularly the rear brakes, have also been known to cause problems. The brakes can seize, causing the brake shoes to sit tight against the drums. This issue is caused by a fault with the rear brake cylinders, and replacing the rear brake cylinders is necessary to solve the problem.
The lower suspension arm on the front suspension can also cause problems, particularly when driving over speed bumps. The steering can start to wander, and replacing the lower suspension arm is necessary to fix the problem.
The crankshaft position sensor can fail, causing difficulties starting the car. This issue was subject to a recall, and replacing the crankshaft position sensor is necessary to resolve the issue.
In addition, the engine can stall, particularly if the car was built in 1999. A damaged wiring harness can cause the engine to stall, and the whole wiring harness needs to be replaced. This issue affected 2,000 drivers, and the wiring harness is constantly rubbing against one of the body seams in the floor panel.
Finally, the camshaft position sensor can fail, causing a burning smell and visible smoke inside the car. If not addressed, the problem can spread to the camshaft cover and the wire harness, potentially leading to a full-sized fire.
In summary, the Daewoo Lanos 2001 has several common problems that have been reported by owners. These include issues with the fuel pump, engine misfiring, brakes, lower suspension arm, crankshaft position sensor, and camshaft position sensor. It is essential to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of the vehicle.
What happened to Daewoo Lanos?
The Lanos was finally phased out after the 2002 model year, superseded worldwide by the Daewoo Kalos. Daewoo ceased operations in North America. After GM took over Daewoo to become GMDAT, Chevrolet began importing the Daewoo Kalos, rebadged as the Aveo, to North America beginning with MY 2004.

I love driving this car! It's fun, looks great, and gets approximately 28 mpg with all the driving that I do. Awesome!
-
I bought this car to use during the winter so I could store my other car. It's a good car, but unfortunately there are no aftermarket parts available for it. I did have an issue with the rotors warping within the first 3000k, but unfortunately the dealership refused to honor the warranty. Despite this, I still think the car is good. As a mechanic, I'm confident that I can take care of any future issues that may arise.

I have had the car since 2001 with only 28 miles on it. I know have over 40,000 miles on it and the only problem I have had with it is replacing the upper coolant hose & O ring. Not bad, but I had to overnight the parts, otherwise it would take 4-5 days just to get the part. Plus, my dealrhsip doesnt deal with Daewoos anymore so if I need a repair I have to go somewhere else, and Daewoo dealers are getting scarece.I do enjoy the size, as I am in Chicago and parking there is tough, but not for me! And you cant beat $13 for gas each week, and I drive well over 200 miels a week.

The 2001 Daewoo Lanos is an amazing car in many ways. It's affordable, fuel-efficient, and surprisingly enjoyable to drive. Plus, it has the power and performance of much more expensive cars. I personally drive 70 miles round-trip to work every day, mostly at speeds of 70-85 mph, and my Lanos has no trouble keeping up with and even passing other cars on the road.
-
An inexpensive compact car with unbeatable features at that price, although Daewoo USA went belly up. GM has a huge stockpile of parts and is planning two new models next year under the Chevy nameplate made by Daewoo.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you my family's experience with our car. We bought it brand new in September 2001 and it only had 2 miles on it when we got it! We used it to commute 5 days a week from Sussex NJ to Wayne NJ. We did have to rebuild the upper half of the motor around 75k when the timing chain snapped and damaged the motor, but other than that, it's been a great car. The odometer is creeping up on 100k, but the air is still cold, it still drives in a straight line, and we've only had to get 3 alignments in 4 years. Can you believe that the original fuel pump is still pumping? The automatic transaxle still shifts smoothly with nearly 100k. Even my friends love it as much as I do! I just wish more people appreciated this car. It's truly a great car! If they were still available for sale in the US, I would go buy another brand new one. Thanks for listening!

Hey there! I just wanted to share a story with you. Back in 2001, I bought a brand new 2 door Daewoo Lanos hatchback with only 65 miles on it for just $6000.00 dollars! I drove that car for 5 years and managed to put over 107,000 miles on it. Can you believe it? One time, a couple of years after I had bought the car, I was walking out of a McDonald's and a lady told me that she liked my BMW. I couldn't help but laugh and told her that it was actually a Daewoo Lanos. She was surprised and impressed by how well it had held up over the years. It was definitely a great purchase! :)

My radio stopped working after I changed the battery in my Daewoo. I reached out to the service department for help and they provided me with some codes, but unfortunately none of them worked. I'm a bit confused about how a potential thief would know that the radio doesn't work, and if they would bother returning it. Can anyone help me out? By the way, I love my Daewoo!
