2003 Gmc Savana 3500 problems
The Chevrolet Express (also known as the GMC Savana) is a series of full-size vans produced by General Motors since 1996. The successor to the Chevrolet G-series van, the Express is produced in passenger and cargo variants. Alongside the standard van body, the line is offered as a cutaway van chassis; the latter vehicle is a chassis cab variant developed for commercial-grade applications, including ambulances, buses, motorhomes, and small trucks.
In production for a single generation since 1995, over 2.5 million examples of the Express and the Savana have been produced. One of the longest-produced designs in American automotive history, the Express/Savana are rivaled only by the Jeep Wagoneer and Dodge Ram Van for longevity.
Since 1995, General Motors has assembled the Express and Savana at its Wentzville Assembly facility (Wentzville, Missouri). Also, since 2017, GM has sourced commercial cutaway-chassis production from Navistar through its Springfield Assembly Plant (Springfield, Ohio).

Common 2003 Gmc Savana 3500 problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2003 GMC Savana 3500, several common problems have been reported:
- Brake Warning Indicator Issue: Passenger vans equipped with a brake warning indicator may experience a power steering cooler hose separation from the power brake booster fluid flow switch assembly. This could lead to power steering fluid flowing onto hot engine parts, potentially causing an engine compartment fire. Dealers were instructed to inspect for three screw clamps on the power steering hose joints and replace them if necessary.
- Transmission Shift Cable Assembly Separation: Certain vans were built with a transmission shift cable assembly that may separate, causing a discrepancy between the transmission shift lever position and the transmission indicator. To address this issue, dealers were to inspect the transmission shift cable assembly and replace it if needed.
- Hydraulic Brake Booster Pressure Accumulator Crack: Trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans equipped with Bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies were reported to have issues where the hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator could crack and separate from the hydro-boost assembly during normal operation. Dealers were to test the hydro-boost assembly and replace it if it failed the test.
- Wheel Bearing Assembly Retaining Nut: Some vans were built without a wheel bearing assembly retaining nut, which could lead to possible bearing separation, disabling the ABS system. Owners were advised to contact Chevrolet or GMC for inspection and replacement of the wheel bearing assembly if the retaining nut was missing.
These problems highlight safety and functionality concerns that owners of the 2003 GMC Savana 3500 may encounter, emphasizing the importance of addressing recalls and maintenance issues promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and performance.
