2006 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

Common 2006 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger, a compact pickup truck introduced in 1982, has been a popular choice for many drivers over the years. However, despite its success, several common problems have been reported by owners of the 2006 Ford Ranger.
One of the most widely reported issues with the Ford Ranger is transmission problems. These issues are prevalent in both older and newer models, with many drivers noticing symptoms such as transmission fluid leaks, difficulty changing gears, a slipping or dragging clutch, and a burning smell in the car. These issues are often caused by electronic control system malfunctions or worn-out transmission components. If left unaddressed, these problems can lead to transmission failure, which can render the vehicle inoperable.
Another common issue reported by Ford Ranger owners is engine problems. These issues can be difficult to diagnose, as many symptoms of different engine problems can be very similar. Common symptoms of engine problems include the check engine light illuminating, a smoking exhaust, frequent overheating, and decreased fuel economy. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's crucial to get the fault checked out by a specialist as soon as possible.
Fuel injector problems are also common in the Ford Ranger. These issues are often caused by a clogged or dirty fuel injector, which can result in a misfiring engine, the check engine light illuminating, and rough idling. If you experience these symptoms, it's essential to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
Brake system issues are also prevalent in the Ford Ranger. These issues include brake fluid leaks, brake pad wear, and brake rotor warping. If left unaddressed, these problems can lead to reduced braking performance or complete brake failure, which can pose a serious risk of accidents and injuries.
Cooling system issues have also been reported in the Ford Ranger. These issues include radiator leaks, which can cause the engine to overheat and lead to potential engine damage.
Despite these common problems, the Ford Ranger has been designed to be a tough and sturdy vehicle, with the model securing five out of five stars in the Euro NCAP 2012 crash test. However, Ford's disappointing ranking in Car Buyer’s 2021 Driver Power survey for car brands suggests that there is still room for improvement in terms of driver satisfaction.
In conclusion, while the Ford Ranger is a popular and capable pickup truck, it's essential to be aware of the common problems that have been reported by owners. If you notice any of these issues, it's crucial to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair as soon as possible. Regular maintenance, such as checking and changing transmission fluid, can also help prevent these issues from occurring in the first place.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-01-05
- VIN: 1FTYR15E96P
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My truck has been to the dealer on a number of occasions. The dealership (Access Ford, Corpus Christi, Texas) claims that the air bag was replaced. I brought the truck to the dealership in for the airbag issue in January 2017. When I kept receiving notices about the recall and checking the data bases (data bases noted the recall as not completed) I brought the truck back to the dealership in April 2023. Again a check of the recall data bases noted that the recall was not completed. During the April 2023 visit the dealership stated that it was a documentation issue and would recheck the air bag part and ID number and reenter it into the system. Checked the data bases recently and found that the recall was still in effect. Called Ford corporate customer service and they referred me to the dealership. Spoke to a service writer [XXX] at the dealership on June 20,2023 and she stated that there was some issues with their warranty person and would look into the issue and try and get my recall data updated accordingly. As of today (June 26, 2023) checked the data bases and the airbag recall has not been completed. My insurance company is believes that failure to prove that the recall was completed may have a negative effect on my vehicle insurance if an accident occurs. Can this confusion be rectified or do I need to take the truck in again to the dealer? (Copy of receipts for work done attached.) INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I need all reports and data involving accidents caused by the takata air bag deploying while driving, I specifically only want reports involving the 2004-2006 ford ranger with the air bag defect. - Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is superseding a previous recall for certain 2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks to implement a final repair. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger's frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 16, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S42. Note: This recall supersedes recall 15V322 which was an interim repair. Vehicles that received a replacement air bag inflator under the previous campaign need to return to a dealer to have an alternate inflator installed. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S42.

I bought it for towing and off-roading, sometimes both at the same time, and I also use it for my daily commute to work. It has performed flawlessly. I couldn't ask for a better truck. In fact, I would say it's on par with Toyota in terms of quality, fit, and finish. The Ranger is also small enough to run on narrow trails in the mountains, and it's more affordable to purchase and operate.

Great truck! While the gas mileage could be better for the 4cyl auto trans, upgrading the tires to 235/70-15 can give it a little more height. This is actually the second Ranger I've owned and I think they're great trucks. I still own the truck since the last review and I still believe it's the best truck I've ever owned. In fact, I have an exciting update to share - the truck has now reached 180,973 miles with very little maintenance and it just keeps going and going! It's such a shame they stopped making them, otherwise I would definitely buy a new one.

I love these little trucks! You can really rely on them. I've been using them for my small pest control company for years, and they never disappoint. With regular oil and transmission fluid changes, they can easily go well past 250,000 miles. Our oldest truck, a 2006 Ranger super cab with the 3.0L V6, has an impressive 550,000 miles and is still running strong!

The $19k truck I purchased came in at a great price of around $15k thanks to the rebates. I had a great experience working with the dealer to find a SuperCab - 2WD - 4cylinder automatic that fits my needs. Although I don't plan to haul a lot, I appreciate the capability and the ability to tow things. The acceleration on this truck is really good, and I have never felt like it lacked power. With only 1,900 miles so far, I am getting an impressive 27mpg in a mix of highway and city driving, and every tank shows a 2mpg improvement. I absolutely love this truck!

I love the look of this truck! As my first American vehicle, the Sport model really caught my eye. It has been incredibly reliable so far. While I have owned many Japanese makes in the past, I appreciate the character of my truck, even if the engine doesn't feel quite as smooth. In a world of computerized cars, it's refreshing to have a vehicle that gives me pleasure. The V6 engine sounds great and the seats are incredibly comfortable. The only thing I wish for is better gas mileage.

Your vehicle is reliable, clean-looking, and functional. However, it may have poor fuel mileage and the tires may be too small, causing it to constantly lose traction. You may want to consider upgrading to 235-75-15 tires, which work better than 215-70-15. Additionally, the ride may be rough and the transmission may need some adjustments. Overall, your vehicle has great potential and with some minor improvements, it can be even better.

It's not the latest high-tech Tacoma or the powerful Frontier, but it's a reliable, classic-looking truck that still holds its own despite its dated platform. It meets all my needs and costs $3500-4500 less than a similarly equipped Toyota or Nissan. The 4.0 engine provides ample power and torque, and the truck is comfortable and relatively quiet. I prefer to stick with the battle-tested American classic, fully loaded for just over $20,000! Do you have any other questions?

This is a great little truck for small tasks. It rides decently on the road and has enough power to really romp on it when you need it. While the interior lacks any kind of impressive style, it's still comfortable and functional. Getting anything in or out of the super cab can be a bit of a pain since the seat only comes up so far and there is no suicide door, but it's not a deal breaker. The stereo could use a little work, but overall this is a solid choice for anyone in need of a reliable truck.

I have had good luck with the truck so far, but unfortunately, at 34000 miles, the tailgate handle broke and the transmission began slipping on the auto. However, I am confident in the warranty and the dealership's ability to fix the issue. The dealership was able to rebuild the transmission at no cost to me, which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. While I hope this is not a sign of things to come, I am reassured by the fact that my warranty runs out at 36000 miles.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this truck. I was in need of a long bed truck that would offer good fuel economy, and after driving an F150 for a few years and paying too much for gasoline, I found the perfect opportunity to purchase this automobile. I'm happy to report that my gas mileage, mostly highway, stays around 28 mpg even in the hot Texas summer with the a/c running and driving at highway speeds of about 68 mph. The truck offers plenty of room for carrying my loads, and I'm really pleased with the overall performance. I bought it specifically for the 7 foot bed, which no other economy truck has. The dealership had to travel 450 miles to pick up the truck, but I was able to walk out the door with it for only $14K. Thanks for listening!
