Ford Fusion hybrid problems

The Ford Fusion Hybrid is a gasoline-electric hybrid powered version of the mid-sized Ford Fusion sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford, now in its second generation. A plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, was released in the U.S. in February 2013.
The first generation was launched to the U.S. market in March 2009 for model year 2010, together with its badge-engineered variants, the Mercury Milan Hybrid and the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. The second generation was launched under the Ford and Lincoln brands for model year 2013, went on sale in the U.S. in October 2012.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid at 39 mpg‑US (6.0 L/100 km; 47 mpg‑imp) combined city/highway. The second generation hybrid improved the fuel economy rating to 42 mpg‑US (5.6 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑imp) for combined city/highway driving. The EPA rated the Energi's combined city/highway fuel economy in all-electric mode at 88 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPG-e) (2.7 L gasoline equivalent/100 km; 106 mpg-imp). In hybrid operation (charge-sustaining mode), the Energi has a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg‑US (6.2 L/100 km; 46 mpg‑imp).
The Fusion Hybrid has won the 2010 North American Car of the Year Award, and the entire 2013 Ford Fusion line-up, including the Fusion hybrid and plug-in variants, won the 2013 Green Car of the Year. As of December 2016, over 285,000 units of the Fusion hybrid family have been sold in the United States since 2009, including the plug-in hybrid variant. As of December 2016, sales of the Fusion Energi totaled 43,327 units delivered in its main market, the U.S.

If you're planning to drive without considering mileage, this car may not be the best fit for you. It operates differently from gas-only cars. When coming to a stop, it's recommended to gently ride the brake for 500 feet to allow the regenerating brakes to gradually slow down the car. This will prevent the brake pads from wearing out quickly. By using the brakes properly, you can avoid wearing them out. For short trips, such as going to the grocery store 2 miles away, the car may not achieve high mileage because the gas motor is not warmed up yet. However, the longer the stretch you go, the more efficient the car becomes. The car performs best at 55 miles per hour, achieving 48 to 50 mpg. On the freeway, it gets about 40 plus on short distances. During hot weather in Florida, I keep the air conditioning at 75 degrees, which helps greatly since the air conditioning draws a lot of electricity. One of the advantages of a hybrid car is that it has no leaky transmission, only a reliable belt drive. You only need to change the oil every 10,000 miles and never need a starter motor because the hybrid motor starts the car instantly. This results in way less maintenance than a gas-only vehicle. Additionally, the gauges on the dash show how many gallons are used and how many miles are on EV Electric only, which is about 50% of the time. Once you get more miles on the gasoline motor and it's broken in, it will make a difference. I estimate that it should be broken in by 30,000 miles. On average, I save about 35 to 40% on gas used. I hope this information helps you.

This 2016 Fusion Hybrid SE is a remarkable upgrade from my previous car, a 1998 Ford Mustang. With features such as Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a CD player, it's clear that this car is a significant step up. While the EPA rates it at 44 city-41 highway-42 overall, I have found that it's not difficult to achieve much higher mpg. By properly driving a hybrid and following the car's displays, I have been able to achieve over 50 mpg on trips of over 30 miles. Even on a 120-mile trip with the cruise control set at 70 mph, I still managed to get 46 mpg on the highway. By driving with the eco button on, I prioritize fuel economy, which means the car accelerates a bit slower and the A/C doesn't blow as hard. Despite this, I still managed to get an average mileage of over 40 mpg even in mid-August when it was in the mid-90s outside. I decided to buy a hybrid for several reasons, including wanting something new and a car that wouldn't suffer in gridlock traffic. This car happily crawls along in EV mode, rarely using any gas. Additionally, I appreciate the idea of fewer of my dollars going to the Middle East. This car has no downside, as it gets outstanding fuel economy while still being powerful enough to chirp the tires and push you back in your seat when you need it to, especially when the eco button is turned off.The Fusion Hybrid is an exceptional car that easily outperforms school buses and slow-moving 18 wheelers on the highway. Despite being a standard hybrid, it gets better mileage than the more expensive Fusion Energi, which is heavier due to its larger battery. The car has a smooth and quiet ride, and its classy appearance both inside and out is impressive. I was able to negotiate a great deal on one of the last new 2016 models on the lot, which cost less than some of the new 2017 2.5 liter SE's on the same lot. Although the A-pillars are thicker than in my old Mustang, the visibility is still good compared to other new cars. The car's fuel economy is affected by cold weather, but it is still an amazing car that I would definitely buy again. After 7 months of ownership, I am still very pleased with my purchase. The Fusion Hybrid is a reliable and efficient car that performs exceptionally well in snow and ice. It offers a smooth and quiet ride, with no rattles or unwelcome surprises. The CVT transmission ensures a seamless driving experience, with no jerkiness or hesitation. The gas engine is powerful and doesn't shake the car when it comes on. With an average fuel economy of over 40 mpg in everyday driving, the Fusion Hybrid is an excellent choice for those looking for a practical and eco-friendly vehicle.

I've been eyeing the Fusion since 2013 when the new body style was released. I went for the Titanium and opted for every feature because I can't stand blank button faces in cars. This is my first brand new car and I've always disliked the blank buttons in all the used cars I've owned. When it comes to the Fusion hybrid, it's an extra 2000 dollars, but it can save you that much in gas costs in the first few years. If you're looking to save money, it's definitely worth considering. Let's keep an open mind and explore all the options available to us.

Vehicle year: 2019
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your review of your 2019 Fusion Hybrid SE. It's great to hear that you found a car that you love after considering a few options. The SE sounds like it has some amazing features, especially for a used car. I'm glad to hear that you find the cloth seats comfortable and that the car drives smoothly. It's also great to hear that you're enjoying the benefits of driving a hybrid, like using less gas and having a more eco-friendly vehicle. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! The gas engine on/off transitions are smooth and I get 39mpg, even though I live in a hilly suburban area. In a traditional grid/low speed city, you should get over 40mpg easily. Choosing the hybrid over the standard gas Fusion or other sedan only results in reduced trunk space and no spare tire (although it looks like one would fit). The hybrid battery creates a small shelf in the trunk about level with the rear seats when folded, but it doesn't impact day-to-day use and grocery runs are still fine. One really nice thing is that the trunk lid is very light compared to a hatchback with window glass. The only other negative is not the fault of the car, but mine. I've scraped it (very minor) on a curb when parking. It's lower than my Escape so I've got to be more careful. I'm mentioning this in case you're switching from an SUV or truck to a sedan. **** Hi, just an update: I'm pleasantly surprised that with the seats folded down, I can actually fit my bicycle in the car once I remove the front wheel, just like my previous SUV. Unless you routinely haul large boxy things, don't let the hybrid trunk stop you! **** Overall, I love it.

Vehicle year: 2019
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid, which I've had for 3 years and 3 months now. I purchased it used with 16K miles (CPO) in September of 2019, and it's now approaching 41K miles. Overall, I've had a great experience with the car. The comfort, climate control, and safety technology (I can't say enough about this!) are all fantastic, and the mileage is impressive at 40-42 mpg. The only downside I've found is that the trunk is oddly shaped and lacks space, which could have been designed better (like the Prius, which was my previous car). Additionally, the front pillars are thick and can hamper visibility, but this is a minor issue. While I'm not a fan of the intelligent wipers or the lane keeping assist, which I turned off, these are personal preferences. On the other hand, I really enjoy the heated seats, BSM, adaptive cruise control, and other features. The acceleration is fine for me, but it may be lacking for some people. I previously owned a hybrid (Prius) and was able to get 7 years and 165K miles out of it, and I feel that I could have easily hit 200K. In my opinion, hybrids are definitely the way to go!

I purchased the Fusion hybrid brand new in 2010. Unfortunately, I have experienced two major issues within four years that caused the car to become inoperable. The first time it happened was on a multi-lane bridge with fast-moving traffic, and I received a stop-immediately warning. This gave me only a few seconds to react before I had to pull over to the shoulder. I had to have the car towed and was charged around $500. Two years later, I received another message stating 'service power steering now,' and the car once again would not start. This time, Ford service quoted me $1800 plus a diagnosis fee.

I have put a lot of miles on my car under various conditions. Although I live in Southern California, I cannot attest to significant changes in weather. When I bought this car, it had a rated MPG of 47/47. Ford sent me a check for $750 when they corrected the ratings. While this did not cover the amount of savings I had anticipated, it was still a nice gesture. The car is beautiful and has had minimal problems. It takes some getting used to its size as it feels like a boat. The departure angles on inclines/declines are not good due to the air dam. Unfortunately, my front paint has already begun to wear on the front bumper from so much driving. As of May 2018, I have relocated to Texas and still driving. Repair costs have been next to none outside of general maintenance. I barely use MyFord Touch w/ Navigation thanks to Bluetooth/Cellphone. The vehicle has held up extremely well, and gas mileage is the same if not better than when originally purchased. However, you have to drive it like your grandma stole it to see MPG benefit. I have had about 4 recalls, which were easy to have done and nothing that prevented me from driving the Fusion on a daily basis.

First transmission replacement was required at 106 K miles. The dealership replaced it with a 'refurbished' transmission. Fortunately, we have a 2-year extended warranty, which came in handy when the transmission failed again 18 months later. We have been waiting for over a month for a new transmission, but we are confident that it will be worth the wait. This is a one-owner car that has been driven very conservatively and has always received regular maintenance. Despite the transmission issues, we still love the car, especially its excellent gas mileage.

I purchased the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE in June of 2014 and have driven 35K miles. Despite the advertised 47/47 MPG, I have only been able to achieve 38 MPG, which is disappointing as fuel efficiency was a key factor in my purchase decision. However, I appreciate that Ford promptly issued me a $700 check for 1 year of fuel and apologized for the miscalculation. While I would have preferred a refund or a check that covers my 8 year/125K warranty, I am confident that Ford will continue to work towards improving their products. Although I had planned on replacing my second vehicle with a F-150, I am still considering all options and will make a decision based on what best suits my needs.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid may experience transmission issues that require a complete replacement, which can be costly at around $6000. It is recommended to consider other options before purchasing a Ford Fusion Hybrid.
