The Ford Fusion Hybrid is a gasoline-electric hybrid powered version of the mid-sized Ford Fusion sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford, now in its second generation. A plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, was released in the U.S. in February 2013.

The first generation was launched to the U.S. market in March 2009 for model year 2010, together with its badge-engineered variants, the Mercury Milan Hybrid and the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. The second generation was launched under the Ford and Lincoln brands for model year 2013, went on sale in the U.S. in October 2012.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid at 39 mpg‑US (6.0 L/100 km; 47 mpg‑imp) combined city/highway. The second generation hybrid improved the fuel economy rating to 42 mpg‑US (5.6 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑imp) for combined city/highway driving. The EPA rated the Energi's combined city/highway fuel economy in all-electric mode at 88 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPG-e) (2.7 L gasoline equivalent/100 km; 106 mpg-imp). In hybrid operation (charge-sustaining mode), the Energi has a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg‑US (6.2 L/100 km; 46 mpg‑imp).

The Fusion Hybrid has won the 2010 North American Car of the Year Award, and the entire 2013 Ford Fusion line-up, including the Fusion hybrid and plug-in variants, won the 2013 Green Car of the Year. As of December 2016, over 285,000 units of the Fusion hybrid family have been sold in the United States since 2009, including the plug-in hybrid variant. As of December 2016, sales of the Fusion Energi totaled 43,327 units delivered in its main market, the U.S.

Latest negative Ford Fusion hybrid car reviews

  1. Madisen Boehm 2025-02-15

    Vehicle year: 2014

I have put a lot of miles on my car under various conditions. Although I live in Southern California, I cannot attest to significant changes in weather. When I bought this car, it had a rated MPG of 47/47. Ford sent me a check for $750 when they corrected the ratings. While this did not cover the amount of savings I had anticipated, it was still a nice gesture. The car is beautiful and has had minimal problems. It takes some getting used to its size as it feels like a boat. The departure angles on inclines/declines are not good due to the air dam. Unfortunately, my front paint has already begun to wear on the front bumper from so much driving. As of May 2018, I have relocated to Texas and still driving. Repair costs have been next to none outside of general maintenance. I barely use MyFord Touch w/ Navigation thanks to Bluetooth/Cellphone. The vehicle has held up extremely well, and gas mileage is the same if not better than when originally purchased. However, you have to drive it like your grandma stole it to see MPG benefit. I have had about 4 recalls, which were easy to have done and nothing that prevented me from driving the Fusion on a daily basis.

  2. Maximus Doyle 2025-01-27

    Vehicle year: 2015

First transmission replacement was required at 106 K miles. The dealership replaced it with a 'refurbished' transmission. Fortunately, we have a 2-year extended warranty, which came in handy when the transmission failed again 18 months later. We have been waiting for over a month for a new transmission, but we are confident that it will be worth the wait. This is a one-owner car that has been driven very conservatively and has always received regular maintenance. Despite the transmission issues, we still love the car, especially its excellent gas mileage.

  3. Salvatore Johnston 2025-01-12

    Vehicle year: 2014

I purchased the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE in June of 2014 and have driven 35K miles. Despite the advertised 47/47 MPG, I have only been able to achieve 38 MPG, which is disappointing as fuel efficiency was a key factor in my purchase decision. However, I appreciate that Ford promptly issued me a $700 check for 1 year of fuel and apologized for the miscalculation. While I would have preferred a refund or a check that covers my 8 year/125K warranty, I am confident that Ford will continue to work towards improving their products. Although I had planned on replacing my second vehicle with a F-150, I am still considering all options and will make a decision based on what best suits my needs.

  4. Berta Doyle 2024-11-28

    Vehicle year: 2015

The Ford Fusion Hybrid may experience transmission issues that require a complete replacement, which can be costly at around $6000. It is recommended to consider other options before purchasing a Ford Fusion Hybrid.

  5. Rolando Willms 2024-11-20

    Vehicle year: 2013

The car's advertised fuel efficiency of 47 mpg highway is not accurate. In my experience of driving 6,500 miles over 6 months, mostly on the highway, I was only able to achieve an average of 35-37 mpg, despite my best efforts to drive efficiently. Additionally, I encountered issues with the ABS light coming on multiple times, which the dealer was unable to resolve. The Ford MyTouch system also did not meet my expectations, with the navigation system frequently freezing and becoming unusable. As a result, I decided to trade in the car after six months, incurring a loss of approximately $4k. It is important to be aware of these issues before making a purchase decision.

Latest positive Ford Fusion hybrid car reviews

  1. Eliezer Ward 2025-02-23

    Vehicle year: 2016

This is my report on driving 19,000 miles in 20 months. I know it's a bit of a cliche, but my other car is actually a BMW 530i, which Consumer Reports once named the best car they ever tested. So, my standards for comparison are quite high. However, I must say that I really appreciate the excellent value that the 2015 Fusion Hybrid offers. So far, the build quality seems superior with no rattles, and it handles my BMW-type throttling over bumps quite well. The seat comfort is excellent for the price range, much better than expected. I have been getting a combined gas mileage of 43.7 MPG overall so far, which is even better than the rated 42 MPG. Although the touchscreen info system can be a little annoying, it's not a major issue. While it may not handle like a BMW, it is predictable and safe, and the acceleration is very good compared to other hybrids and even some mid-sized four-cylinder cars, like the 2015 Hyundai Sonata I rented recently, which was a piece of bad handling slow junk compared to the Fusion. Overall, I really like it.

Our Ford Fusion Hybrid has been an absolute joy to drive, taking us from Arizona's deserts to the Colorado mountains with ease and comfort. With an impressive overall mileage of 38.4mpg, we were pleasantly surprised by its efficiency. On a recent trip from Phoenix to Flagstaff, we were able to achieve 38.7mpg at 75mph with the AC on. From there, we were able to get an impressive 52.7mpg from Flagstaff to Monument Valley at 75mph, and even in 90+F heat, we still managed to get 39.8mpg with the AC full on from Monument to Moab. Driving through the Rockies on I-70 was a breeze, with plenty of passing power and lots of help coasting downhill into Denver. The Fusion's precise and crisp steering, along with its well-planted stability, gave us a canyon-carver feel. While not a sports car, it can hold its own on the highways and still gets plenty of thumbs up. The front and back seats are comfortable and the near-luxury interior makes trips, short or long, a pleasure. The A/C had no problem with the Phoenix heat, and the radio/Bluetooth/phone pairing is high quality, easy to use and fast. Overall, we highly recommend the Ford Fusion Hybrid for anyone looking for a comfortable and efficient ride. The battery takes up some trunk space, but it can still hold two medium-sized travel bags, two backpacks, a 36-pack of 20oz bottles, hiking poles, and even golf clubs if one side of the back seats is dropped. If both seats are dropped, the capacity can be doubled. The only concern is that there is no spare tire, only a can of sealant, an electric pump, and a prayer. Overall, my wife and I are very happy with the Fusion. It's a real car and a hybrid! UPDATE: (08-26-2017) I drove the red Fusion SE for 20,983 miles at 37.9mpg with no problems before trading it in August 2016 for a new Ford Edge. All my prior comments held true for the entire ownership period. The Fusion Hybrid's highway mileage was its forte, though the 40+mpg in the city was also appreciated. Unfortunately, my wife developed a medical condition in mid-2016 that made it hard for her to enter/exit my

I owned a 2011 Fusion Hybrid and when I got the new car itch, I decided to opt for a 2015 model. I have not been disappointed. The car is performing even better than the 2011 model year, averaging 45.8 mpg city and 43 highway in real-life driving situations. The acceleration is quick when needed, and the car is quiet while in motion. The engine makes just enough noise to let you know when it switches over from electric to gas so you can tweak the gas pedal for better mileage. If you bend your left leg while driving (vs. keeping it straight), it can be difficult to find a comfortable position for your foot because of the way the floor is designed. However, overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

I bought my 2014 model in March of that year and have now driven over 20,000 miles. I live in Pennsylvania, which has many hills and valleys, hot, humid summers, and cold winters. Most of my driving is local, although I do take many trips of 50 miles or more, including a trip to Colorado, Georgia, and Canada. That said, the only times I got less than 50 mpg were the first two tanks of gas (47 and 49) and during the winter months because most of my driving was local and the car would take time to warm up. Since owning the vehicle, my overall mileage is better than 53 mpg, and this last tank gave me 60 mpg for the first time. The secret is in how you drive it. My car is no different than the ones claiming lower mileage. However, there is one problem - the driver cannot see the front of the vehicle, which makes it very difficult to judge the distance of those pesky little parking stops in parking lots. I normally drive right up over them - not to mention an awkwardly placed median strip on a side road in West Virginia. I turned and never saw the median strip until I heard it going under my car - needless to say, this removed the piece under the bumper. I realize the design of the car is to give it the best mileage, but I also believe safety should be the first concern. This is dangerous. UPDATE! It is now January 2018, and I have made the grave mistake of trading the Fusion for a Malibu Hybrid. I have only owned the Malibu for 8 months, but it does not come close to the Fusion overall. With the exception of storage and maybe comfort, the Malibu falls way short of the overall performance of the Fusion, especially the mileage, which averages about 14 mpg less...

I've owned this car for 9 years and it has been impressively reliable with no major repairs needed. During the summer, I average 35mph and 28mph in the winter (I live in Boston, so I need to keep the engine running to use the heater). I love the fuel efficiency, excellent GPS, and climate control. The exterior paint quality has held up very well and still looks shiny after a wash. The only downside is that the cloth interior stains easily and the initial acceleration is not as quick as a regular car. During the winter, I park outside, which has caused some rust to appear on the rocker panels. Despite these minor issues, I plan to keep the car for a few more years. As of 2022, the car still runs well with 175K miles on the odometer. Unfortunately, a couple of the jack points have rusted through, making it difficult to have the car serviced. Both rockers have significant rust. It's a shame because the car has been faithful and continues to give me 35 mpg.
