1998 Ford E-250 problems
The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).
With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).
The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

What is the difference between Econoline 150 and 250?
The Basic Difference:
The higher the number, the more weight the van can haul and the heavier duty it is. For example, in this case, the E-250 is more of a heavy-duty option than the E-150. This means that vans are all built with different parts, so they can accommodate different weights.

I've been driving Ford Trucks for many years now, and I must say, they are truly unmatched in quality and durability. When you get behind the wheel of one, you can feel the strength and power it possesses. I've only had to replace my brakes once in 100,000 miles, along with the original tires. My maintenance has been minimal, just oil changes and a tune-up at 60,000 miles. In the past 6 years, I've spent less than $1000. Can you believe it? I wonder how many Dodge or Chevy owners can say the same!
-
Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned that all your driving is in town, which can be tough on a vehicle. However, I'm glad to hear that you've only had one issue in 8 years, and that it was covered under warranty. It sounds like the electric mirrors and rear suspension could use some improvement, but overall, you've had a great experience with your van. It's been very dependable, and you haven't had to spend much on repairs. Plus, it handles well at highway speeds and is very quiet. As a fellow GM fan, I'm happy to hear that you're impressed with this van!
-
It has a powerful 5.8 engine and great steering. It's a real workhorse!

It's often said that American cars aren't any good, but I have to disagree. I absolutely love my van! When I moved into my apartment, I needed a vehicle that could store all of my tools and bicycles, so I decided to buy a cargo van. I ended up purchasing a 250 extended model, and it has so much room inside! I bought it for only $1000, put in a new battery and new tires, and it's been running great ever since. Even after sitting for two weeks in the middle of winter in Michigan, where temperatures dropped to 0 degrees, it started up without any issues. On the highway, I get an impressive 18-19 mpg at 65mph. I can't express how much I love this van! While I've owned Hondas and older BMWs in the past, I'll definitely be keeping my dollars on American cars from now on. Ford rocks!

If you're in the market for a reliable workhorse, a used E 250 is an excellent choice. I've owned mine for several years now and it has never let me down. Despite the odometer breaking at around 200,000 miles, it still runs like a dream. The air conditioning is still cold and the heat is hot, making it comfortable to drive in any weather. I've taken it on long road trips across the country and it has never failed me. While there is some rust on the lower quarter panels, I'm confident that I can get another 100,000 miles out of it. In comparison to my Chevy Express, the Ford feels more solid and reliable. The Chevy's transmission failed at around 160,000 miles, but the Ford is still going strong. I only need to change the oil once a year and replace the brake pads and tires as needed. It's a shame that they no longer make them, as I would buy another one in a heartbeat. :)

The van has been okay, but unfortunately I have had two new engines from Rowe and neither were installed correctly. I am still experiencing a noise on start up and a bad front end that no one has been able to fix. Additionally, it shakes at 60 MPH despite having a new rear end. However, I must say that the dealer did take care of most of the bill, as Ford would not do a thing.
