The Ford Crown Victoria ("Crown Vic") is a full-size sedan that was marketed and manufactured by Ford. The successor to the Ford LTD Crown Victoria, two generations of the model line were produced from the 1992 until the 2012 model years. The Ford counterpart of the Mercury Grand Marquis, the Crown Victoria was the largest sedan marketed by Ford in North America, slotted above the Ford Taurus. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (1992–2011) was marketed specifically for law-enforcement use; a long-wheelbase Crown Victoria sedan (2002–2011) was marketed primarily for taxi cab fleets.

The Crown Victoria was produced on the rear-wheel drive, body-on-frame Ford Panther platform, sharing its chassis with the Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car. From 1997 until their 2011 discontinuation, the three model lines were the sole four-door sedans produced in North America with a full-length frame, rear-wheel drive, and a standard V8 engine. While the front and rear crumple zones were engineered into the vehicle, it was one of Ford's products that were not of unibody construction for the entire generation. The Crown Victoria was the last car made using the Ford Panther platform.

For its entire production, the Crown Victoria was produced by Ford Canada alongside the Grand Marquis at St. Thomas Assembly in Southwold, Ontario. From 1991 until 2011, over 1.5 million cars (including Police Interceptors) were produced by St. Thomas Assembly prior to its closure. A 2012 Crown Victoria (intended for Middle East export) was the final vehicle produced by the facility. Following the discontinuation of the model line, the Crown Victoria was not directly replaced, with the full-size Ford Taurus serving as the next basis for Ford police cars.

Common 1995 Ford Crown victoria problems

Based on the information gathered from various sources, here are some common problems reported by owners of the Ford Crown Victoria 1995:

  • Total Transmission Failure: Another significant problem is total transmission failure, particularly in the 1999 model year. This issue can occur at relatively low mileage, around 24,000 miles on average, and comes with an average cost of $2,600 to fix.
  • Complete Transmission Failure: The 1992 model year also faced complete transmission failure as a common problem. Owners reported an average cost of around $1,600 to address this issue, with an average mileage of 104,000 miles.
  • Headlights Turn Off While Driving: In the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria, a prevalent issue was headlights turning off while driving. This safety concern can pose risks for drivers, especially during nighttime driving.
  • Intake Manifold Issues: The intake manifold in the Ford Crown Victoria, particularly in the Police Interceptor models, has been a common failure point. The plastic intake manifold used in earlier models led to problems like cracks, coolant leaks, overheating, and misfires. This issue resulted in a class action lawsuit against Ford, prompting a redesign with an aluminum thermostat housing to address the problem.
  • Steering Shaft Recall: In 2013, Ford recalled 370,000 2005–2011 model year Ford Crown Victoria vehicles due to the possibility of steering loss. This safety concern highlights a significant issue that owners of these vehicles faced.

These problems highlight some of the key issues that owners of the Ford Crown Victoria 1995 have encountered. Addressing these concerns promptly and with proper maintenance can help mitigate potential risks and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

  • Manufacturer: FORD MOTOR COMPANY
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN 1996-1999 FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE, FLEET, NATURAL GAS, AND 1996-1999 LINCOLN TOWN CAR LIMOUSINE VEHICLES THAT WERE PRODUCED WITH A LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT CONTAINING A ONE PIECE BEARING; AND 1990-1996 FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE, FLEET, AND NGV VEHICLES AND 1990-1996 LINCOLN TOWN CAR LIMOUSINE VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN SERVICED WITH EITHER A BALL JOINT CONTAINING THE ONE-PIECE BEARING OR A FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM CONTAINING A BALL JOINT WITH A ONE-PIECE BEARING. THE ONE-PIECE BEARING WITHIN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT CAN WEAKEN SLOWLY DURING USE AND EVENTUALLY CRACK. THIS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE BALL AND CAP OF THE JOINT, ALLOWING THE CONTROL ARM TO DROP TO THE GROUND.
  • Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, REDUCED STEERING CONTROL COULD OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS (2).

  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE LINES FOR WEAR, INSTALL TWO NEW TUBE BUNDLE CLIPS, AND CHECK THE BRAKE LINES FOR PROPER CLEARANCES. IF THE BRAKE LINES ARE WORN, THE DAMAGED SECTION OF THE BRAKE LINE WILL BE REPLACED.

I have owned two of these cars and found them to be very dependable. The engine and transmission are very reliable, and the engines can last up to 200k to 300k if you change the oil regularly. I recommend trying to find a later model with electronic fuel injection, as the cars made from 1979 to early 80s have carburetor issues that can cost a whopping $800 to replace! Both cars also have choke and throttle issues. However, there is plenty of room in the front and easy access. While they may be gas hogs around town, the large outer body makes them less nimble. The best part is that parts are easy to find and the initial cost is low. If you want a cheap, reliable older car, this is it. They will last a long time if you maintain them. It's worth noting that the rear seat legroom is limited and the 1995 through 2001 models have plastic intake manifolds that ALWAYS CRACK, costing over $800 to replace. If you're interested in buying one of these models, ask the owner if it has been replaced, as it will fail at some point. It's important to keep in mind that these cars have a low trade-in value due to their older design.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I picked it up used to keep some commuting miles off my 4x4 truck and it has been a great choice! Even though I haven't garaged it through 6 winters of Michigan salt, it has held up really well. I use it to pull my boat and utility trailers often and the only major maintenance I've had to do is replace the brakes and tires. It always looks like it just came out of the showroom whenever I wash it. Plus, it gets 25+ mpg on the highway (unless I'm pulling a trailer). I'm actually planning to buy a used 2004 to replace it. Thanks for listening!

Loved the car! It's one of the best I've ever owned in over 40 years of driving. With 138,000 miles, it's still reliable and comfortable. However, I was disappointed to find that 2 other Crowns I purchased subsequently came with less standard options. Ford needs to learn to stop 'decontenting'. This may cause me to consider purchasing a car from another manufacturer.

100,500 km highway. Fuel consumption 30/33 mpg. Limited winter driving. Excellent road handling & comfort.

This is one of the best cars I've ever had. I really appreciate the spacious trunk and interior.
