Dodge Durango 1999 problems
The Dodge Durango is a mid-size/full-size SUV produced by Dodge starting with the 1998 model year. The first two generations were very similar in that both were based on the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram, both featured a body-on-frame construction and both were produced at the Newark Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware through the 2009 model year.
The third-generation Durango began with the 2011 model year. It is built on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, features unibody construction, and has been assembled at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan since late 2010.
Each generation had options for different engine sizes and power ratings, with different transmissions also. In 2009 a hybrid variant was introduced, but ended quickly with the second generation Durango. From 2007 to 2009 the Durango was available as the Chrysler Aspen from Chrysler. Over two million Durangos have been sold since it was introduced in 1998.

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: 1999 DODGE DURANGO PCM/ECU WILL FAIL WHEN IT GETS HOT, GIVING A NO BUS, AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL AND LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHERE I WAS BARELY ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE HAD THE PCM/ECU REPLACED OVER 5 TIMES, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. EXPERTS HAVE PIN POINTED THE ISSUES TO CERTAIN CHIPS COMING UNSOLDERED IN THE PCM/ECU DUE TO HEAT. KEENAN LAWS HAS YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUES ARE, AS WELL AS MANY OTHER HAVE DONE. DODGE CONTRACT'S OUT THE SOLDERING OF THESE CHIPS, BUT THEY DON'T DO A GOOD JOB AS SOME DON'T WORK AT ALL. FOR EXAMPLE, WE PUT THREE IN BEFORE WE GOT ONE THAT WORKED. THIS IS INEXCUSABLE AND PUTS PEOPLE LIVES AT VERY HIGH RISK. I PAID AROUND $800 TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN SANTA ROSA CALIFORNIA FOR A PCM/ECU THAT LASTED ONLY MONTHS. IT TAKES A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF STRENGTH TO CONTROL THE DURANGO WITH NO POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. DODGE HASN'T BEEN A HELP OR THE PCM/ECU REBUILDERS. CURRENTLY I'M WAITING ON ANOTHER REBUILT PCM/ECU, WHICH THE REBUILDER CAN'T EVEN GIVE A TIME WHEN I COULD GET ONE. THE DATE BELOW IS THE MOST CURRENT INCIDENT, BUT THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE ABOUT 2009 AND APPROXIMATELY 170,000 MILES.

After looking at many other models, we decided to purchase the Durango. I was drawn to its stylish appearance and impressive power. We use it for a variety of tasks around the farm, including towing a large camper and a tractor. Although we have not experienced any issues until now, the transmission is starting to give us some trouble. Despite this, everything still works great with our SLT Plus model. We also appreciate the ability to carry up to 7 people and the reliability of the 4WD system, which has never failed us.

I bought this used and have never had a minute's trouble with it. Despite hearing negative comments from others, the test drive sold me, especially after trying imports that felt too narrow. The powerful 5.9 engine and great maneuverability make driving a pleasure. The leather and suede interior looks great and I especially love the overhead AC for the rear. Although I never use the 3rd seat, it's nice to have the option. I even added 16

I purchased this Durango with 34K miles back in June 02 and I'm the second owner. I still love it even with 40K miles on it. It has plenty of room and is very comfortable. It also has enough power to pull a trailer with ease. This is actually my second Dodge, the first being an 84 W150 4X4 truck which now has 295K miles on it! So far, I haven't had any problems with my Durango and I hope it stays that way. Of course, there are some usual items that need to be replaced due to normal use, but nothing major. The gas mileage is not great, but considering the vehicle weight and engine size (5.9L), it's to be expected. I have noticed some noises in the front end, but I've checked them out and found nothing. For now, I've just accepted them and hope they don't turn into anything serious.

I love the roomy interior, the comfort and the drive. I did have one issue though, when using an automatic car wash, water got into the distributor and the car had to dry out for a few minutes before starting.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 1999 Model Durango. I bought it used 2 years ago and it's been great! Despite some negative reviews I've read, I haven't had any problems with the vehicle.

The engine oil pressure problems have been persistent since the early stages. Despite being in the shop at least four times for the same issue, Dodge refuses to repair it under warranty, citing 'shoddy' maintenance as the cause. However, I have always performed appropriate maintenance and the dealer claimed engine sludge problems caused the issue at 23,000 miles. I am confident in my case and may have to resort to legal action to get it resolved so that I can sell the vehicle. It is my recommendation to avoid Durango and Dodge unless you are a masochist. Unfortunately, there has been no support from the dealer or manufacturer.

The Durango is an unreliable vehicle with poor service from dealerships. It is highly recommended to check the reliability ratings and reviews before making a purchase. The Suburban is a much better option. Dodge has a history of poor marks and it is advised to stay away from the Durango. Purchasing one will lead to regret in the long run.

You've brought your SLT quite far without any issues, which is great! It's enjoyable to drive, but unfortunately, it's not very fuel-efficient. Additionally, the rear air conditioning doesn't cool as much as you would like. However, it performs very well on the highway.

I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. I purchased it with the intention of keeping it for 10 years and serviced it accordingly at an authorized Dodge service shop. Unfortunately, the transmission went out at 65k miles and again at 130k miles without warning or indication. I was surprised because I never tow anything, go off-road, or skip services. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I contacted Dodge today to express my dissatisfaction, but unfortunately, since it is out of warranty, I have to pay for the repairs on my own. I learned a valuable lesson and will not be considering Dodge for my future purchases. I apologize for any harsh words, but I hope this feedback helps you improve your products and services. Thank you for your time.

I have experienced several issues with my Durango and unfortunately, the dealership has not been very helpful. I have also visited other Dodge dealerships, but I have found their service to be subpar as well. During rainy weather, I have encountered problems with acceleration, and there have been instances where I have stopped and tried to accelerate, but nothing happened. The first time this occurred, I was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection. I continued to try to accelerate, and when it finally kicked in, I spun out of control. Despite visiting multiple dealerships, they have been unable to identify any issues. As a result, I have lost confidence in my truck and am considering selling it soon. I would advise avoiding Dodge at all costs!
