2018 Kia Forte problems
The Kia Forte, known as the K3 in Asia, the Forte K3 or Shuma in China and Cerato in South America, Australia, New Zealand and Russia, is a compact car manufactured by South Korean automaker Kia since mid-2008, replacing the Kia Spectra. It is available in two-door coupe, four-door sedan, five-door hatchback variants. It is not available in Europe, where the similar sized Kia Ceed is offered (except for Russia and Ukraine, where the Ceed and the Forte are both available).
In some markets, such as Costa Rica, Australia and Brazil, the Forte is marketed as Kia Cerato, replacing its predecessor of the same name. In Colombia and Singapore, the name Cerato Forte was used for the second generation, while Naza Automotive Manufacturing of Malaysia has assembled the vehicle since 2009, selling it there under the name Naza Forte.
First generation (TD; 2008)
The first generation Forte was introduced in 2008. In North America, the Forte replaced the Kia Spectra, while the Forte retained the Cerato name in numerous markets. It shares the same platform as the Hyundai Avante/Elantra (HD), though employing a torsion-beam rear suspension in place of the Elantra's multilink design. Kia has stated that the Forte was specifically designed to target younger buyers attracted to sharper auto designs.
Succeeding the first generation Cerato or second generation Spectra, several elements of the interior and suspension were changed. The car received a wider (4 cm) and longer (3 cm) body, a longer (4 cm) wheelbase and a wider (7 cm) gauge. However, ground clearance was reduced by a centimeter, thereby reducing the height by a centimeter. At the same time, the design of the rear suspension was simplified, which instead of independent multilink thrust became semi-dependent double-lever, with an elastic beam, which made it more reliable and easy to repair and maintain.
Three body styles, which are compact 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, and a new 2-door coupe body style was introduced.

Common 2018 Kia Forte problems
The Kia Forte is a popular compact car that is available in two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and five-door hatchback options. While the Kia Forte is generally considered to be a reliable vehicle, some model years have their fair share of problems. Here are the most common issues for the 2018 Kia Forte:
- Engine problems: The 2018 Kia Forte may experience engine problems that can cause abnormal knocking sounds, excessive stalling, shaking, idling, misfiring, and complete engine failure. These engine problems can cause the engine to suddenly die while driving, which may increase the risk of accidents. Some owners have reported that their cars wouldn't start up at all. These engine problems may also be linked with other component failures. Some owners have reported that their engines died while driving, which may increase the risk of accidents. However, they were not able to determine why they got worn out prematurely.
It's important to note that the 2018 Kia Forte has a reliability rating of 4.5/5.0, which ranks it close to the top compared to other compact cars. However, there are still some troubles that Kia Forte owners should be aware of to make their time as owners better.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-26
- VIN: 3KPFK4A7XJE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: 2018 Kia Forte, purchased certified used June 2022, will randomly go into ECO or Sport mode on startup or while the vehicle is in motion. Vehicle is not equipped with Drive Mode control buttons, indicating that ECO/Sport modes are not supposed to be active feature. While I vaguely remember the mode change occurring during previous two years of my ownership, the first noticeable incident in 2024 was of the vehicle going into ECO mode (green indicator light) happen upon startup the morning of 5/26/24. This was noticeable due to the fact that the ECO mode slow down caused me to nearly be rear-ended by a semi while merging onto the freeway. The vehicle remained stuck in ECO mode for several weeks. On the morning of 6/10/24, while driving, vehicle began to sputter/hesitate and ECO light blinked on/off then switched to Sport (yellow indicator light) mode and vehicle surged forward. Vehicle then switched back to ECO mode and it remained in this mode until the morning of 6/13/24, at which point it went into Sport mode upon startup. It went back into Normal mode (no indicator light) upon startup the evening of 6/13/24. Vehicle was inspective by selling dealership 6/15/24 and they could not duplicate the issue nor pull trouble codes. Remained in Normal mode until the evening of 7/15/24, at which point it switched back to ECO mode. Dealership has been notified. It should be known that ECO mode slows down the vehicle response to conserve fuel, Sport mode speeds it up. While these features can be useful when wanted and properly installed with the appropriate controls, the randomness in which these features engage make them a safety hazard, especially considering the control buttons are not installed. Based on NHTSA VIN information the trim package of my vehicle, LX (which KIA America has yet to confirm even though I have made multiple inquiries), Drive mode is an optional feature which was not activated by the original/first owner.

Ignition Coil has since went out, resulting in the 2018 Kia Forte being brought back to the [same] Kia Dealership for the [same] repair. Kia Dealership has stated the Ignition Coil that was placed in 2018 Kia Forte is not “under warranty”, and full market value price plus diagnostic, and labor is warranted. It appears the mileage of when the original 2020 Ignition Coil repair was complete, is “coincidentally” the exact mileage the Ignition Coil went out again (20k miles). Assuming the Ignition Coil used to remedy said recall back in 2020 is faulty; as Ignition Coils should last within 80k-110k miles. Thus, should not be the financial burden or responsibility of the consumer.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-21
- VIN: 3KPFK4A74JE
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My car stalled in the middle of a busy road at 80k miles on the way to get an oil change. Never had any issues or lights on with the vehicle prior and oil maintenance was performed regularly. My safety was impacted due to not being able to get of of car in the middle of the street and could have caused a major accident or gotten killed on that road from cars speeding past. My car has been at the Kia service center for 4 months with no confirmation of when this can be resolved due to my specific engine being on back order. Kia has been known to produce bad engines and has a prior lawsuit out for other models, I believe this model should be included as well since it did the exact same thing as previous models that are no longer sold due to engine failures.I have reached out to Kia corporate several times a week since December and have had no success in persuading them to take this matter more seriously. I have explained not only my personal concern but also the safety concern to multiple people in the corporation and have had no relief emotionally about this and have been placed in an even tighter situation not being provided a replacement or rental in the meantime. I am also put in a financial bind due to being out of a car for this long and having to spend thousands on transportation, car payments, and car insurance on a car that hasn’t been in my possession due to a system failure that was out of my control and Kia’s known problem of engine malfunctions. Thank you in advance for your assistance and time spent listening to my concerns I hope to have all of this resolved for me and current/future Kia owners.

- Summary: The vehicle stalls while driving during inclement weather. It needs to be restarted for it to continue driving. I have taken the car to multiple dealerships and they cannot locate the problem. I have also taken it to general mechanic shops and they cannot locate the issue. There isn't a code that is shown or a recall, there isn't even a warning lamp showing on the dash. This is creating a significant safety concern for anyone that is driving behind me. I haven't been rear ended yet but it's only a matter of time. If multiple dealers cannot fix the issue I believe this is a defective car. I have tried to contact Kia for guidance and they have not been any help. Please help me get through to Kia that they have sold a defective car and it is a safety hazard on the road.

- Summary: I have 4 recall notices on this vehicle, my trunk latch stopped working 3 days ago, after a trip to the grocery store. now the trunk will not close had to strap it down with bungee cords to the under carriage . The 2 Kia Dealers in my area of Riverside County California have said to me they’re not touching recall work, there’s that excuse, I’ve requested 4 appointments online with both dealers and I’ve never gotten a call-back! They suggest scheduling appointments online because no one answers the phones. If they do answer a ringing phone they simply transfer me to another phone that nobody answers. Frustrating. No voicemail?! I’m getting no support from Kia! It’s illegal in California to drive with your trunk strapped down, it’s also a huge safety issue! Having to strap the trunk down is damaging my car paint job. Trying to do the right thing and getting no support. What do I do now? Allstar Kia in San Bernardino is where I bought my Kia and Riverside Kia in Riverside CA is where I was told they weren’t dealing with recall work. That’s why they don’t answer ringing phones. Help please!

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-23
- VIN: 3KPFK4A73JE
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I am the 2nd owner. Mileage currently: 25,562 Mileage when purchased in August, 2020: Approx 15,500 Air Compressor Car was not driven for most of 2020 and stayed in garage (pandemic). Car has only been serviced at Kia. Service in May 2022: Dealer checked off all components, valves, hoses, etc. were fine (option boxes were green, yellow, red, red being needing service soon. They checked "green" for box being discussed. August 2023 Brought car in for 3 recalls. Several weeks prior I noticed that the AC wasn't functioning as well as it used to so I had them check. Coincidentally, warranty expired 2 months earlier in June. Paid for the diagnostics, results are that the air compressor is leaking which will cost $1700 less the $300 that I've paid (estimated). Not sure why this wasn't noticed in May 2022 when warranty may have covered some/all of this repair. The car is barely driven since I am underemployed. Additionally, the compressors should last 8-10 years, not under 5 years or 25,000 miles. Regardless, while AC is always nice on a hot day, have your ever tried to drive your car on a rainy day without a working AC? Try it. I bet your windows fog up really quickly. So yes, it is a safety issue. I've reached out to KIA USA for assistance as a good will gesture to meet me half way (not even asking for free, just to meet me half way). It has been almost 2 weeks and they keep stringing me along. I only have a small window with Kia Ventura to decide if they should finish this work before I lose out on the $300 that I've already paid. It's ridiculous.

Positive 2018 Kia Forte car reviews

After 6 months of driving, I am still loving it! I wouldn't change anything else in this review, all the high ratings still stand. I would like to add that we have an awesome dealership here in Quincy, Il. though! We were after a good economy car to replace a 10 year old Hyundai Elantra. (The Elantra was a good experience for us, but I was amazed at how far this class has come in the past ten years.) We have or have had higher end cars/SUVs/mini-vans. We found it in this Kia Forte S model with the tech package option. The quality of materials, features, ride, styling, and roominess are just a few of the reasons why we love this car. It has an overall well-refined design and is a great value for the price. We have only had this car for a month, but we are really loving it!
-
The S model is fantastic when it comes to gas mileage, with EPA estimates of 29 city and 38 highway. The 2017 model boasts a new 2.0 L engine with a 6-gear automatic transmission, as well as automatic headlight settings, a backup camera, and Bluetooth capabilities. Additionally, both the S and EX models come equipped with a touchscreen head unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

10 years ago, I would have never considered purchasing a Kia. However, the brand has come a long way in the past decade. I got my Kia Forte on December 1, 2017. After having it for a month, I can confidently say that I'm impressed. Many people complain about the acceleration, but it is a compact sedan, not a sports car. However, it has adequate power to pass even the sports cars if need be. The interior of the cabin is comfortable and the controls are easily accessible. Surprisingly, the MPG gets 32 combined as promised by Kia, even when I'm feeling heavy-footed. When I'm cruising, sometimes I average 44 MPG. Aside from that, it's a classy looking car. I have absolutely fallen in love with the Kia brand. I will update in a few years to let everyone know if the prospective reliability holds true.
-
Congratulations on your purchase of the Kia Forte S with tech package! It's an incredible value. The car is great to drive in any weather condition and is comfortable for drives around town. People have mentioned that the backseat is roomy and the front cabin is cozy. The size of the car is perfect for parallel parking and it's easy to drive around parking lots and in garages. As other reviews have mentioned, the OEM tires are not the best, so I upgraded to Michelin Premier A/S. Although the car sometimes feels a bit unstable when making left turns, it's still a great car. The only downside is that it may not be as comfortable on long road trips or in traffic compared to the Civic or Mazda 3, but those cars are more expensive when equally equipped. Overall, I highly recommend the Kia Forte S as a first-time vehicle or for city driving. The S trim is fantastic and the only thing missing are seat heaters and leather. Great job, Kia!

I spent a lot of time researching different car types online, reading reviews, checking prices, and my credit score. By the end of the day, I had decided that a Kia Rio was the best option for me. However, when I went to the dealership, my salesman suggested I test drive a 2017 Kia Forte, which I hadn't considered before. It turned out to be a great car! After some negotiation, I was able to get a price that I was happy with and drove off in my new vehicle. I haven't had it for very long, but so far it drives like a dream. The warranty that came with the car also gives me peace of mind, knowing that any issues will be taken care of. I am very grateful to my local Kia dealership!

I purchased this KIA a few months ago with 34,000 miles on it, and it now has about 38,000 miles. While I agree with some of the reviews that the acceleration can be lacking and the heater is not the best, I have found ways to work around these issues. When the heater is on high, it's not bad, but the windows tend to fog up, so I usually have to open a window part way to eliminate the fog. If I turn the dial to defrost, it defaults to air conditioning, which can be a bit confusing. However, I think it might be to prevent the windshield from cracking due to a sudden temperature change. As for acceleration, it can be a bit slow to pick up speed, but I've learned to adjust my driving accordingly. So far, I haven't had any issues with the trunk latch, which is a relief. The vehicle sometimes locks itself up, which can be annoying if I forget my key fob, but overall, it's not a bad vehicle and serves as my daily driver. The wheel wells are a bit tight, and the car is low to the ground, which can be problematic in the winter. I highly recommend using the best-rated siped winter tires and carrying a shovel in the trunk just in case. The tires that come with the car are not adequate for winter conditions. Also, my car came with a patch kit instead of a spare, so I swapped it out with the spare from my old KIA. The sound system is decent, but the volume in relation to the speakers could be better. I have the CD player and Bluetooth capability, and it reads .mp3 files, so I burn my own disks. It's set up for Sirius, but I personally don't care for a service that cuts off in tunnels or underneath power lines. After reading one review, I will probably double-check the motor mounts. As far as I can tell, the transmission system is enclosed, as I couldn't find a dipstick. I haven't had much time to get to know the vehicle yet, but I'll update this review once I have more experience with it. Hopefully, this information is helpful to someone.

I have owned my car for over a year now and have noticed a few issues that I would like to address. Firstly, I have noticed that there is a significant amount of wind noise in the interior, which is not ideal. Secondly, the brakes are quite sensitive and can cause some discomfort when coming to a sudden stop. Thirdly, the car lacks power and can struggle when pulling out into traffic. Fourthly, the tires are not suitable for wet conditions and can easily lose traction. Fifthly, the car is not well-suited for snowy conditions and can experience build-up in the wheel wells. Sixthly, the windshield wipers do not clear the whole window and the washer fluid does not spray far enough. Lastly, the heat can be a bit weak on low and too strong on high. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my car and am confident that they can be addressed with proper maintenance and care.

Despite being only two years old, my car has been experiencing issues with the alternator. After three days of not starting, I had to jump-start it. Although it took two visits, the issue was eventually found and resolved.

Hi there, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share that I've only driven my car for just over 26000 miles and have been diligent about keeping up with all the necessary services. Unfortunately, I've already encountered an issue with the check engine light coming on due to cylinder misfires. It's frustrating when you can't depend on a car with such low mileage.

I have a 2017 Kia that I purchased new. Despite having only 34500 miles on it, it has been in the shop 5 times for the same problem - a rough engine and engine light. However, during the last visit, the issue could not be replicated, and therefore, a ticket to KIA could not be submitted. As a confident decision, I have decided to pick up the car today and replace it with a different vehicle next week, but definitely not a KIA.
