The Chevrolet Trax is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed under the Chevrolet brand since 2013, currently in its second generation.

The first generation model was released globally in 2013 as the smallest, entry-level crossover SUV offering from the brand. Development and production were centered in South Korea by GM Korea. A restyled model was also produced as the Buick Encore in North America and as the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka in Europe.

In several markets, the vehicle was marketed as the Chevrolet Tracker, and as the Holden Trax in Australia and New Zealand. The Trax became available in Canada, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, and Europe for the 2013 model year and was released in the United States for the 2015 model year.

In 2019, GM released the replacement of the Trax for China and Latin America, the Tracker. The first-generation Trax continued to be marketed in North America, South Korea, and several other markets until 2022, when it was replaced by the larger second-generation Trax due for the 2024 model year. The second-generation Trax is also marketed in China as the Chevrolet Seeker.

Common 2021 Chevrolet Trax problems

The 2021 Chevrolet Trax has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are the details of these problems:

  1. Body Roll Problems: Many drivers have reported that the 2021 Chevy Trax has more body roll than they are used to in a car. This issue means the car tends to lean more to one side or the other when going around sharp turns, leading to slight fear for drivers. Body roll can be caused by various factors, including suspension and tire issues. The cost to fix body roll issues can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the severity of the problem and the parts that need to be replaced.
  2. Transmission Issues: Drivers have reported that the transmission in the 2021 Chevy Trax jerks and hesitates while shifting gears. In some cases, the transmission has refused to shift into reverse. Transmission issues can be caused by various factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn-out gears, or a faulty transmission control module. The cost to fix transmission issues can range from $3,000 to $6,000, depending on the severity of the problem and the parts that need to be replaced.
  3. Oil Leaks: Some drivers have reported issues with oil leaks in the 2021 Chevy Trax system. This issue was most common in the turbocharged versions of the Trax, which can further harm the system and even lead to fires. Oil leaks can be caused by various factors, including worn-out gaskets, damaged seals, or a faulty oil pump. The cost to fix oil leak issues can range from $500 to $1,500, depending on the severity of the problem and the parts that need to be replaced.
  4. Wheel Alignment Faults: Some drivers have reported issues with wheel alignment in the 2021 Chevy Trax. This issue can cause the car to pull to one side, uneven tire wear, and poor handling. Wheel alignment issues can be caused by various factors, including worn-out suspension components, damaged wheels, or a faulty alignment system. The cost to fix wheel alignment issues can range from $50 to $200, depending on the severity of the problem and the parts that need to be replaced.
  5. Random Squeaks and Rattles: Some drivers have reported random squeaks and rattles in the 2021 Chevy Trax. These noises can be caused by various factors, including loose parts, worn-out bushings, or a faulty suspension system. The cost to fix squeaks and rattles can range from $50 to $500, depending on the severity of the problem and the parts that need to be replaced.

While these problems can be frustrating for drivers, it is important to note that not all 2021 Chevy Trax models will experience these issues. If you are considering purchasing a used 2021 Chevy Trax, it is recommended to have the car inspected by a certified mechanic to ensure that it is in good condition and to identify any potential issues before making a purchase.

A side note I can only ever find videos on direct side impact not indirect impacts that involves the wheels. In either case the front or back tire impacts will still involve the persons head being slammed into the door window causing head injury.

Negative 2021 Chevrolet Trax car reviews

  1. Bradley Nikolaus 2024-07-05

This car has some areas that could be improved, such as the lack of cruise control and the touchy steering wheel. Additionally, the windshield wipers could be more intuitive. However, I appreciate the effort put into designing and building this car. Thank you for your hard work!

  2. Ellis Parker 2024-07-05

This car may not be the best option for everyone. It's important to test drive a few different cars before making a decision. While this car may not be the right fit for some, there are many other great options in this class. The engine is small, but it's turbocharged to provide a decent amount of power. The seats may not be the most comfortable, and the backseat is a bit small, but it's still a viable option for those who prioritize affordability. It's important to keep in mind that everyone has different preferences when it comes to cars. While this car may not be the best fit for some, it may be perfect for others. It's always a good idea to do your research and test drive a few different options before making a decision.

  3. Keon Hane 2024-07-04

I've owned two Chevys now, and I've noticed that once you start getting closer to 80-90,000 miles, there tend to be more problems. However, for the first few years and lower mileage, it's a great car that requires very little maintenance. It's a good option for those who don't plan on keeping it past three years or that certain mileage. In my experience, I've had to replace the turbo, battery, water pump, and tube that feeds my anti-freeze due to a burst, but overall it's been a reliable car.

  4. Dustin Gusikowski 2024-03-18

I love a lot of the options and the Chevy Infotainment system. However, if you happen to be a tall or large person, this car may not be the most comfortable option for you. The angle of the seat and the actual size of the seat itself can be quite uncomfortable.

  1. Joshua Boyle 2024-11-13

Since purchasing this vehicle, I can definitely say it's a gas saver. Although I don't have as much trunk space as my previous vehicle, I make it work.

  2. Terence Cartwright 2024-10-15

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love driving this vehicle!

  3. Julius Lubowitz 2024-08-21

After trading in our Altima, I'm so glad we got this car! It took a little time to get used to, but I absolutely love the dark tinted windows, nice rims, and sun roof! It's such a fun car to drive!

  4. Lorenza Berge 2024-08-17

I chose the Trax AWD LS because it was the most affordable SUV-like car available at the dealership. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it rides and handles, especially compared to my previous car, a 2017 Chevy Spark. In city traffic, the Trax is definitely not underpowered. One of my favourite features is the excellent visibility provided by the taller Trax and its large tinted windows. The rear camera is also amazing and saves my neck from strain. The car comes standard with cruise control and power everything, which is a nice touch. The handling is tight and much better than my wife's Chevy HHR hatchback. While the trunk space is adequately large, the rear seat legroom is only suitable for young people. However, the front seats are more comfortable than the HHR. Overall, I am very satisfied with the value, functionality, and comfort of the Trax AWD LS. I hope it will be as durable as my 2011 HHR, which has been amazingly trouble-free for 11 years.

  5. Jett Rath 2024-07-16

You're going to love the fold flat back seat!
