Chevrolet Trax problems

The Chevrolet Trax is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed under the Chevrolet brand since 2013, currently in its second generation.
The first generation model was released globally in 2013 as the smallest, entry-level crossover SUV offering from the brand. Development and production were centered in South Korea by GM Korea. A restyled model was also produced as the Buick Encore in North America and as the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka in Europe.
In several markets, the vehicle was marketed as the Chevrolet Tracker, and as the Holden Trax in Australia and New Zealand. The Trax became available in Canada, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, and Europe for the 2013 model year and was released in the United States for the 2015 model year.
In 2019, GM released the replacement of the Trax for China and Latin America, the Tracker. The first-generation Trax continued to be marketed in North America, South Korea, and several other markets until 2022, when it was replaced by the larger second-generation Trax due for the 2024 model year. The second-generation Trax is also marketed in China as the Chevrolet Seeker.

Chevrolet Trax 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-19
- VIN: 3GNCJNSB4KL
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: My car’s engine started to get loud one day and would run roughly as I drive. I got it check and the service center couldn’t find the issue as the car was good on all its fluids and there weren’t any leaks anywhere. Then some days passed and my vehicle started to slow down drastically on a highway (speed limit of 65) and my car would struggle to accelerate and so I was forced to switch from the middle lanes on the left to the lane all the way in the right, it was very difficult to do so as cars were passing me at high speeds. My car was struggling to accelerate and the engine started running rough. The engine light then came on. So I got it checked ant a local service center and I was told my turbocharger had to be replaced as it malfunctioned somehow. I can’t drive my car as it would be traveling way below the speed limit. I did not bring it to my dealer yet.

Chevrolet Trax 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-08
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-15
- VIN: 3GNCJLSB8JL
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Chevrolet had a recall (N232395330) for 2018 Trax models due to a problem with the turbocharger. For whatever reason, Chevrolet did not include all 2018 Trax models, and omitted ours. The turbocharger on ours failed, causing an oil problem and substantial damage to the engine (and, possibly, other parts), with an estimated $12,500 cost to repair. We have tried to work with both Chevrolet (case number X-XXX) and a local dealership (Tim Lally Chevrolet in Warrensville Heights, Ohio). Both are denying any liability for the problem. However, if Chevrolet had properly included all 2018 Trax models, and provided us with knowledge of the problem with the turbocharger, it would have been repaired without the substantial damage caused by Chevrolet's under reporting of the affected vehicles. The day of the problem, the Trax lost most power and did not indicate any oil issue. How does one get Chevrolet held responsible for the damage done because they under reported the affected vehicles? - VIN: 3GNCJPSB0LL
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The driver information center in the cluster intermittently goes completely black or glitches while driving. It will go into all white dots, completely black out, or be garbled. You lose the ability to monitor your speed digitally and it causes issues with safety because it will change in and out at random times and you are forced to change your attention to the needle instead of focusing on the road. No warning lamps or trouble codes present. I have not contacted the manufacturer but have had a mechanic inspect it and he cannot find a cause but thinks possibly is an electric short or fault module. This began happening in June 2024 and is now getting worse and very unreliable.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-30
- VIN: 3GNCJPSB0LL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I am not sure of what actual component(s) failed, but I do know that a brake line that had braided steel broke and spewed brake fluid failed- this line comes off the master cylinder to ABS module. Mechanic attempted replacement and there is still no pressure in the brake line. Mechanic believes it is the brake booster now that caused the line failure to occur. The vehicle and components are available for inspection. What happened was that when I was driving on a city road at 35 MPH, a vehicle in front of me was driving reckless and when I changed lanes I approached a traffic signal that changed to yellow and when I went to slow i felt a pop in the brake pedal and the pedal went all the way to the floor and i was unable to stop when the light changed to red and rolled through the intersection. I was able to finally stop approximately 300 feet after applying the brakes. There were no warning indicators or lamps that illuminated prior to this occurring and as a result of the brake failure a collision was narrowly avoided.

- VIN: 3GNCJKSB2LL

- Summary: The driver information center in the cluster intermittently goes completely black or glitches while driving. This is a safety concern because it is distracting while driving and removes important trip and vehicle information. I paid $222.79 for the dealership to inspect and they were not able to recreate the issue. They stated that the entire cluster would need to be replaced. I called GM to report the problem, but received no further options. After some research I found many posts online from others having the same issue with their 2020 Chevy Trax. I also saw that the 2024 Chevy Trax was recalled for the same issue stating it is a safety concern. My car is available for inspection upon request.

Vehicle year: 2018
I researched the issue I am currently experiencing and found that it has been previously reported with the older equinox. Despite having only driven the car for 8,000 miles, I noticed a burning smell while driving to work and the same smell persisted when I left work. Upon arriving home, I discovered a large oil spill. I contacted the dealership and had the car towed. Although they attributed the issue to the polar vortex, I am sceptical as another Trax was experiencing the same problem. The dealership informed me that the rear seal had blown and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, as I am under contract, there will be no cost to me. However, I am disappointed that a car that is practically brand new has already experienced such a significant issue. I will be conducting further research to ensure that this does not happen again in the future. While I am not entirely satisfied with the dealership's explanation, I appreciate their assistance in resolving the issue. I will continue to monitor the car's performance closely and make an informed decision when my lease is up.

I've only owned this car for three weeks, but I've already put 900 miles on it in just five days! As a retiree, I needed a vehicle with better mpg than my big 4 wheel drive Expedition, and this car has exceeded my expectations. I still have the Expedition for towing and snow storms, but I find myself driving this car all over the place. I'm beating the mpg by tons! During nearly 300 miles of highway driving, the computer said it was averaging 43 mpg. As a conservative driver who has had huge vehicles that needed me to get the last mile out of every gallon, this car is just fun! I don't need luxury, I need a car that I can drive 250 miles in a day and still feel pleasant, and the Trax does just that for me. I have the 2RS in a light blue, and it's quiet, easy to get in and out of, easy to park, nice to drive on the freeways, and great in town. It also has lots of cargo room, which I have already used.

I've had my Trax 1RS for about 3 weeks now and have driven just under 2k miles. I purchased this car as an extra vehicle for my teenage drivers to use. It was priced similarly to some of the late model used cars we were considering, but it came with all the latest safety equipment and a fresh warranty. The sticker price was just under $24k, but I was able to get mine for $20k (+tax & tags) after applying my GM points, educator discount, and the dealer discount. First of all, I must say that $20k is an incredible value for what you get with this car. The RS trim looks sharp, and it comes with heated seats and steering wheel, wireless Carplay (which none of our other cars have), remote start, and is roomy enough for 4 people and their gear. It's also easy to drive with good access and visibility. This car has really made me reconsider all future car purchases - you can get features and style for less than $40k. After driving 2k miles, the only feature I really miss is the push-button start (this car has an old-school key), but that's only available on the next trim levels starting with the LT. However, my kids preferred the looks of the RS over the LT, and we didn't want the leatherette that comes with the 2RS and Activ trims. Plus, we were trying to stick to the $20k price point. In terms of performance and mileage, the car is exactly as expected. My wife and I took two long test drives to ensure that it would be enough to get out of its own way but not too much for the kids to get in trouble. The powertrain won't get you in trouble, and while I think the mileage should be better from a 3 cyl, I was fully aware of the 28/32 rating and am getting right in that range. During the first 800 miles of break-in, we got an average of about 27 around town. Then, I took it on a 1200 mile trip from PA to FL, and the average was right at 30, even while driving at 75-80 mph with some mountainous terrain at the beginning of the trip. I expect the mileage to improve a bit with the warmer weather.Plus, I experienced no hip or back pain after the drive. The seats are on the firmer side, but they were perfectly comfortable for me. As for reliability, I have not encountered any issues so far. Although, I did come across other users' complaints about glitchy infotainment and intermittent windows, but I have not experienced any of those problems. Since mine was built in Nov 2023, it should have all of the known software remedies already in place. There is always some risk of these issues on the first year of any redesigned car, so there is a bit of risk here. Time will tell if this ends up being a reliable car, but because of the value proposition, we were willing to take the risk. If you are in the market for this class of vehicle on a budget, I definitely recommend you take a look at the Trax. However, make sure you take a nice long test drive on local and highway roads to ensure you are happy with the driving dynamics, performance, comfort, and features. It's amazing when I read some of these reviews that people don't seem to understand what they are buying. When I return to PA, it gets turned over to the kids, and I'll sell their old beater. But, I am really enjoying my time with it!

I absolutely love my second Trax LT! While there may be other mini SUVs out there that are sharper, faster or more luxurious, the Trax is the perfect fit for me with its affordable price, reliability, safety, fuel efficiency, easy entry/exit and comfortable seating. Over the past five years and 60,000 miles of driving, I have consistently achieved a mixed mileage of 35-37. Whenever friends ride with us in our Trax, they always compliment us on it and ask about our satisfaction level. I always tell them that our satisfaction has been surprisingly high for its price. According to our Chevrolet service manager, the Trax has been

It's such a zippy little car! It gets about 26 miles per gallon, which is great. It doesn't come with a CD player, but that's not really a big deal these days. The backup camera is a really nice feature. It doesn't have too many bells and whistles, but it drives really nicely. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but I already know I want to own it for at least 8 years. Let's see how it stands up!

My new car had a few issues that needed to be addressed, such as the battery dying and the fan malfunctioning. Despite being under warranty, the service department initially refused to help. However, I persisted and was able to get the issues fixed. While the car is good on gas, I would not purchase it again due to these problems.

My Corolla was rear-ended, and I decided to give a domestic carmaker a chance to earn my business. I purchased a 2020 Chevrolet Trax LT AWD, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. Despite being new, it struggled to accelerate and had terrible fuel mileage. Additionally, it required new electrical work and a new radiator at only 40,000 miles. At one point, it even lost all of its oil pressure. Despite my best efforts to maintain it, the Trax was not up to par. As a result, I confidently decided to trade it for a Honda.

If you're in the market for an SUV that comes in a small package, the Trax is definitely worth considering. It offers good visibility, a relatively comfortable ride, and more space than a compact sedan. While the acceleration may not be the fastest, the Trax still provides adequate access to the rear seats and enough room for your groceries and packages. Although the engine may be a bit underpowered, it's still a solid choice. While there may be competitors that do the compact SUV better, the Trax is a great option if you're a Chevy fan.

This car has had some issues, but I am confident in the dealership's ability to fix it. Despite the unfortunate breakdown, I am impressed with the prompt service and attention to detail provided by the dealership. I have full faith in their ability to repair the car and get it back on the road. While it is unfortunate that the warranty has expired, I am confident that the repairs will be worth the investment.

If you're okay with poky acceleration, this car will delight you with its handling and highway drives. During my two-hour drive on I-5, it performed well both uphill and downhill, even in traffic at high speeds. The rebates brought the cost down to the mid-teen level, and it also has AWD. The maneuverability is terrific, making parking in the city a breeze. The Apple CarPlay and backup camera are both excellent features. The seating is adequate, but not plush, leaving room for improvement. The cold weather start and comfort are good, and I haven't tested the AWD yet. I've owned the car for 7 months with low mileage experience, driving 34 miles round trip 2-3 times per week, plus local driving. The trunk is small, but it's fine for groceries or a suitcase. With the rear seat down, it can even fit a bike. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I would have loved to have added heated seats, more seat support, heated side mirrors, and cruise control. For your information, I drive this pokey vehicle in a spirited way, employing its maneuverability more than the acceleration, and I'm sure the mileage could be much better.
