Chevrolet Trax problems

The Chevrolet Trax is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed under the Chevrolet brand since 2013, currently in its second generation.
The first generation model was released globally in 2013 as the smallest, entry-level crossover SUV offering from the brand. Development and production were centered in South Korea by GM Korea. A restyled model was also produced as the Buick Encore in North America and as the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka in Europe.
In several markets, the vehicle was marketed as the Chevrolet Tracker, and as the Holden Trax in Australia and New Zealand. The Trax became available in Canada, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, and Europe for the 2013 model year and was released in the United States for the 2015 model year.
In 2019, GM released the replacement of the Trax for China and Latin America, the Tracker. The first-generation Trax continued to be marketed in North America, South Korea, and several other markets until 2022, when it was replaced by the larger second-generation Trax due for the 2024 model year. The second-generation Trax is also marketed in China as the Chevrolet Seeker.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-19
- VIN: 3GNCJNSB4KL
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: My car’s engine started to get loud one day and would run roughly as I drive. I got it check and the service center couldn’t find the issue as the car was good on all its fluids and there weren’t any leaks anywhere. Then some days passed and my vehicle started to slow down drastically on a highway (speed limit of 65) and my car would struggle to accelerate and so I was forced to switch from the middle lanes on the left to the lane all the way in the right, it was very difficult to do so as cars were passing me at high speeds. My car was struggling to accelerate and the engine started running rough. The engine light then came on. So I got it checked ant a local service center and I was told my turbocharger had to be replaced as it malfunctioned somehow. I can’t drive my car as it would be traveling way below the speed limit. I did not bring it to my dealer yet.

Chevrolet Trax 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-08
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-15
- VIN: 3GNCJLSB8JL
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Chevrolet had a recall (N232395330) for 2018 Trax models due to a problem with the turbocharger. For whatever reason, Chevrolet did not include all 2018 Trax models, and omitted ours. The turbocharger on ours failed, causing an oil problem and substantial damage to the engine (and, possibly, other parts), with an estimated $12,500 cost to repair. We have tried to work with both Chevrolet (case number X-XXX) and a local dealership (Tim Lally Chevrolet in Warrensville Heights, Ohio). Both are denying any liability for the problem. However, if Chevrolet had properly included all 2018 Trax models, and provided us with knowledge of the problem with the turbocharger, it would have been repaired without the substantial damage caused by Chevrolet's under reporting of the affected vehicles. The day of the problem, the Trax lost most power and did not indicate any oil issue. How does one get Chevrolet held responsible for the damage done because they under reported the affected vehicles? No warning lamps or trouble codes present. I have not contacted the manufacturer but have had a mechanic inspect it and he cannot find a cause but thinks possibly is an electric short or fault module. This began happening in June 2024 and is now getting worse and very unreliable.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-30
- VIN: 3GNCJPSB0LL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I am not sure of what actual component(s) failed, but I do know that a brake line that had braided steel broke and spewed brake fluid failed- this line comes off the master cylinder to ABS module. Mechanic attempted replacement and there is still no pressure in the brake line. Mechanic believes it is the brake booster now that caused the line failure to occur. The vehicle and components are available for inspection. What happened was that when I was driving on a city road at 35 MPH, a vehicle in front of me was driving reckless and when I changed lanes I approached a traffic signal that changed to yellow and when I went to slow i felt a pop in the brake pedal and the pedal went all the way to the floor and i was unable to stop when the light changed to red and rolled through the intersection. I was able to finally stop approximately 300 feet after applying the brakes. There were no warning indicators or lamps that illuminated prior to this occurring and as a result of the brake failure a collision was narrowly avoided.

This is a safety concern because it is distracting while driving and removes important trip and vehicle information. I paid $222.79 for the dealership to inspect and they were not able to recreate the issue. They stated that the entire cluster would need to be replaced. I called GM to report the problem, but received no further options. After some research I found many posts online from others having the same issue with their 2020 Chevy Trax. I also saw that the 2024 Chevy Trax was recalled for the same issue stating it is a safety concern. My car is available for inspection upon request.

Vehicle year: 2024
When I started looking for a new car, I felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to choose. My wife already had a Honda CR-V, so I didn't want to get another SUV. I looked at used cars and SUVs, but the prices and quality didn't make sense. That's when I decided to look at new cars, specifically sedans like the Sentra, Corolla, Civic, and Elantra. While I did consider the HR-V, Kicks, Corolla Cross, and Trailblazer, they all felt too similar to the CR-V. I wanted something different. That's when I discovered the redesigned Trax. It checked all the boxes for me. It has a sporty look, a non-CVT transmission, and is roomy and functional. Compared to the other cars I looked at, it feels pretty peppy. It looks and feels like a lifted hatchback, similar to the Subaru Crosstrek, but at a much cheaper price and with a bigger trunk. Even though it's a high-demand new model, it was fairly easy to get. I opted for the LS model with the convenience and safety packages because it felt like the sweet spot. The silver/light grey color works well with the chrome trim parts and silver alloy wheels. For less than 23k, I get heated seats, remote start, and all the safety features. It's an amazing price for any brand new vehicle, let alone one that isn't boring to look at or drive. I like having actual gauges as it feels more sporty to me, but I also love the fact that it comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The 8Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear that you haven't experienced any problems with your new car so far. Choosing the base trim seems like a smart decision, as it may reduce the likelihood of encountering any issues with the electronic dash that some upper trims have been experiencing. Additionally, the fact that the lower trim reuses parts from other GM models that have been out for a while is reassuring. Of course, as a first year model, there is always some risk involved, but it sounds like you made an informed decision. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us!

You got a lot of car for your money! Congratulations on your purchase of the 2016 Trax LTZ 'Midnight Edition' during Chevy's promotion offering 16% off sticker price, which saved you over $4500! I would like to address the engine first, which some professional reviewers and others have described as 'sluggish', 'slow', 'tepid', and so on. However, my experience so far has been completely different. I live in the mountains of Colorado, and a significant portion of my commute to work involves high-altitude driving, including inclines with a 6% grade or higher. The engine in this vehicle handles it like a champ! Passing other vehicles is relatively easy, acceleration is more than adequate, and the engine never feels like it's struggling. My previous vehicle, a Honda Civic EX-L, which actually had slightly more horsepower (1.8L 140hp@6300 In-Line 4) than the Trax (1.4L 138hp@4900 In-Line 4), couldn't match the acceleration of the Trax. The Civic always felt like it had a 'piano on its back', so to speak, whether driving up a hill or on level ground. The Honda also had a CVT (continuous variable transmission) and was a 5-speed, whereas the Trax does not have CVT and has a 6-speed transmission. I believe that the 6-speed transmission on the Trax makes a significant difference in terms of gearing, while the CVT seemed to constantly struggle to find the right gear. Another amusing thing is that reviews have mentioned that for harder acceleration on the Trax, you really need to 'stand on the pedal' for maximum acceleration. This would only be a surprise to people who have not taken the time to read the manual, because on page 212 of the owner's manual, it clearly states that 'Going less than 35mph, push the accelerator pedal halfway down', and if going 35mph or more, push the accelerator all the way down'. Okay, enough about that, let's move on to the rest of the vehicle. The LTZ comes with pretty much every available option. Enjoy your new ride!If you enjoy listening to music while driving, you'll love the Bose speakers in this car. The dash layout is fine, although the digital dash may seem a little low tech. However, it gets the job done. There's plenty of storage space, and you'll find a USB port and 3.5mm jack in the glove box. It's worth noting that there's no gap or spacing to run a cord out of without leaving the glove box open, which may be a design oversight. While it's tempting to leave your device (cell phone, mp3, etc.) in the glove box while it's plugged in, it's important to note that on a hot summer day, the glove box can get incredibly hot, which can cause your iPhone or other device to overheat or malfunction. The seats are fantastic, offering firm support and multiple adjustments, including lumbar support. As someone who is 6'2I'm currently averaging 25mpg on the highway, but I expect that to increase as the engine gets broken in. This is the first vehicle I bought that came with remote start, which I'm really excited to use this winter! All in all, I think I got a great vehicle for a fair price. I actually look forward to driving it every day, which is probably the best compliment you can give to a vehicle. Two thumbs up!

This little SUV is great! I used to drive a Toyota Sequoia for several years, but the gas mileage (14-19mpg) was becoming a burden with how much city driving I do. As an active woman in my late 20s, I wanted something that could keep up with my lifestyle without having to fill the tank every 3 or 4 days. After months of car shopping and research, I narrowed it down to the Trax or the Jeep Renegade. I test drove an LT and LTZ and was very impressed with the handling, especially in the rain! The Trax is a smoother and quieter ride than the Renegade. The interior feels very open, especially with the sunroof, and it has fewer blind spots than the Sequoia or Renegade. It can comfortably fit 5 people, but 4 is ideal with the cup holder center in the back! With the plug in the back (regular plug, not car charger), my friends can charge their phones without having to hand them to me in the front! The handling is also awesome on tight turns and wet roads. I bought the maxed out option LT because I liked the cloth and leather trim seats better (easier to get dirt out, but no heated seats) and the sun and sound package was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted a bright color car (no black, white, or silver), so I got the metallic rock orange and it looks great! The color is bright but not too intense like a yellow or those bright green cars. I've had it for a few months now, and the Bose system has awesome sound and makes a huge difference in the sound quality of my music. The sunroof and luggage rack are an added bonus.Regarding storage, I don't miss the center console at all! There are plenty of cup holders and my favorite thing is the drawer under the passenger's seat. The cargo area cover is also great, as you can leave anything in the trunk section and no one can see it. All the seats, including the front passenger, fold down so you can fit a paddle board in it! Bikes, golf clubs, and rifles fit easily as well. The rear park assist and back-up camera make it so much easier to back into parking spots (which we are required to do at work), as well as parallel park. I love the fact that it has a regular plug in the back seat for my laptop and other electronics that aren't really compatible with the USB or car charging. On the passenger side, above the glovebox, there is a little compartment where you can plug your phone in to USB or AC cord to play music and shut the phone in there and control it from the steering wheel or touch screen. The slits on either side of the radio are great for holding your phone as well! They are both rubber-lined so it doesn't slide around. The sunglasses holder can hold 2 or 3 pairs easily. The remote start has been amazing for these hot Texas summers! The My Link interface isn't my favorite, but I like it a lot better than Toyota's. The option to not set a 'main phone' is annoying when my husband's or friends' phones connect via Bluetooth before mine. I also wish it had Car Play, but that's a minor loss and personal preference. My only regret is that I opted out of the 18' wheels. It would have been nice to be up just a little higher and have a little more clearance on trails or curb hopping to park. I didn't get the AWD because the gas mileage went down with that option. I miss not having it, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall, I would say it's a great little SUV. If you're looking for something fuel-efficient but want an SUV with a decent amount of cargo space, this is definitely a great option!

I was casually searching for a new vehicle as my 2009 car was having some issues. However, I wasn't keen on getting into a car payment or dealing with the current vehicle costs, whether new or used. One day, I visited my local Chevy dealer with a neighbor, and she introduced me to the new Trax. Although I planned to test drive one later that day, I didn't get the chance. The next day, the dealer contacted me and informed me that he had just received two Activ Trax. I test drove an LT as the Activ had barely been offloaded. Although I'm not a car expert, I was impressed by the styling, interior, features, and driving experience. I particularly appreciated the size, which offered plenty of legroom in the back, was higher than a sedan, had a nice size trunk, and an 11” panel. (Not to mention the cool yellow accents - the interior accent depends on the trim (LS 1RS LT 2RS or Activ). The car is really quiet, the backup camera has a clear picture, and the sound quality when using the phone or other audio is excellent. It has a cool grill and leather-like seats (I think only the 2RS and Activ have this). Also, on these two trims, you have the digital gauges. This model also has the power driver seat and keyless entry. But the best thing was the price. Last year, part of my job was helping new employees in the company I was working for buy a car. It was challenging to find anything post-Covid, choices were limited, and dealers were charging over MSRP/NADA. Even the compact, base model SUVs (which were tiny and had few features) had an out-the-door price (including tax, tag, and title) of over $30k. However, this car was just over $25k out the door, and the Activ and 2RS are about the same price and have similar extras. Although I wish it had an automatic lift gate on the trunk (and it doesn't have one on the key fob, and I haven't seen one in the vehicle), so it's pretty manual. I also wish it came with wireless charging, but it does have a USB and USB C port, and of course, Apple Play/Android Auto (with the Activ and 2 RS having a more updated interface). The safety ratings and Consumer Reports ratings for the 2024 Trax Activ have not been released yet, as it was just launched in May 2023. It's worth noting that there was no 2023 model. While the car comes with 3 years of remote access via phone app, which includes features such as start, stop, locate, mileage, and gas level, it only comes with 1 month of wifi, Sirius, and ONSTAR. When connecting these services, be sure to ask about any special offers to avoid paying around $50/month for them. The Chevy app is basic but functional. The dealer I worked with did not nickel and dime me, and I appreciated that. I had done a lot of research on the price, and he managed to get me some financing with both GM and Ally. We went with Ally, who beat the rate by 1%. The first service is due at 7500 miles, and I currently have only 157 miles on the car! The base LS starts around $21500, so if you don't need all the fancy extras, it's still a great car. I got the jet black color, but there are other funky and cool exterior colors available, including Cayenne and a weird metallic yellow that grows on you after a while. So far, I'm getting 31.3 MPG, and my insurance (on a 2-car policy with mediocre credit) is $125 for the Trax. The only downside I've seen in most of the test drives and major reviews is that there is no AWD. However, I don't need it or miss it, and I'm loving my new Trax Activ (yet to be named)!

My spouse and I recently test drove this vehicle and we were pleasantly surprised by its great value. We were initially concerned about the power, as some reviews had mentioned it as a negative aspect, but we found it to be perfectly adequate. In fact, we found it to be quite peppy in traffic and adequate on the highway. Of course, if you're looking for more power, you may want to consider a larger SUV with a V-8 engine. However, for a subcompact SUV, this vehicle is definitely underrated. We have decided to purchase one and would highly recommend it to others who are looking for a reliable and affordable option.

Although we have experienced an issue with the car not moving after stopping at a red light and shaking violently when attempting to put it in reverse, we are confident in the overall reliability of this compact SUV. We have leased this car for eight months and have been satisfied with its performance aside from this isolated incident.

My 2015 Chevy Trax has had some issues, such as the back hatch not always opening properly, the handle falling off, and the plastic lock for the back hatch. Additionally, the engine light has been turning on and off, the bottom of the shift is made of cheap plastic and broke, and the wipers do not wipe the windshield properly. Changing the cabin air filter requires dismantling the poorly made glove compartment, which has easily breakable plastic connections. Despite these issues, I am confident in the overall quality of my Chevy Trax.

I had a 2015 Chev Trax that required $7,000 in repairs to the turbo and AC after the bumper to bumper warranty expired. Despite getting all maintenance done on time, the transmission went right after the power train warranty ran out. Unfortunately, I had to trade it in with an $8,000 loss. I then purchased a 2019 Trax, but unfortunately, the AC started having problems at 20,000 miles. Chev kept saying it was normal for the AC to shut off after the car had been driven for over a half hour. The AC completely went at 35,900 miles, but Chev was able to patch the problem. However, the next day after picking up the car for the AC problem, the check engine light came on at 35,950 miles. I took it to Chev and they

I purchased my first brand new car, a 202 Chevrolet Trax AWD, on February 4th, 2020. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the vehicle that have been frustrating. At 1200 miles, the check engine light came on and the car shut off on me in the middle of a blizzard on the interstate in Wyoming. The dealership in Wyoming replaced my fuel filter, but the issue persisted. Despite this, the dealership did not provide me with a loaner car, which was covered under my warranty. When I picked up my car a few days later, it still wouldn't start. The dealership took it back into service and charged me $130 to drain my fuel, claiming it wasn't covered under my bumper to bumper warranty. While the car still isn't running perfectly, I am grateful that the local dealership in Texas has been more helpful and communicative. They provided me with a loaner car and replaced my turbo charger, which had only 13000 miles on it. Although there are still some issues with stalling and a clanking noise, I am hopeful that the dealership will be able to address these issues soon.I had to take my car back to the shop again. It was there for 5 days and apparently had eroded spark plugs, even though it's a brand new car. Unfortunately, after only 7 days of having it back, it started stalling so badly that I almost got into an accident on Highway 75 in Dallas with my child in the back seat. I'm disappointed in GM and Chevy for making such a poor quality vehicle and for their service departments treating me like I'm stupid just because I'm a woman. They've refused to look into the issue even though I've brought it to their attention numerous times. My car has now been back in the shop for a week, and unfortunately, I haven't received any communication from the service department. I hope GM and Chevy will take responsibility for their actions and treat their customers with the respect they deserve. As a mother, I'm concerned for my child's safety and I hope they will take this issue seriously. This is my first brand new vehicle and it has been a disappointing experience.

Initially, I was very satisfied with my car. However, I have experienced some issues with the info screen locking up and the front headlights flashing on and off without my input. Despite taking it to the dealership and having them update some things, the issues persisted. To provide evidence, I recorded videos of the problems occurring. Unfortunately, the dealership and GM technicians have been unable to find a solution to these issues. It is disappointing to have these problems with a car that is only 1100 miles and from 2004. I am hoping to find a resolution to this issue soon.
