A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.
In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.
The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4.3 engine that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. The only maintenance I've done is rebuilding the transmission and keeping up with tune-ups. Out of the 5 vehicles I've owned, my S-10 has been the best by far. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new vehicle.

It's safe to say that the S-10 is unbeatable. This truck can handle anything you throw at it. It has never failed to do what I've asked of it. I drive it to college and work during the week, and on the weekends, I use it for everything from servicing coal trucks to hauling big tires and multiple 50-gallon drums. I've even taken it on strip jobs where most people wouldn't dare to take a 2-wheel drive. Of course, I've gotten stuck a few times, but I've always managed to get out. Even in the winter, when most people park their 2-wheel drives, I don't. I just throw 200-250 pounds in the back, and the old 4.3 engine just idles its way around. Sometimes, I even take it out to the bar after washing it up.

Well, hello there! I have quite the story to tell you, haha! Back in 2002, I bought this truck as a puddle jumper for commuting back and forth to work. At the time, I considered it a cheap consumable, thinking that once it died, I would just buy another. But guess what? This truck has refused to die! With 192,000 miles on it, it rattles like a tin can, but it still manages to steer down the road. I haven't treated it very well, only doing oil changes, brakes when needed, and a clutch job at 170,000 miles. I don't even think the power steering pump works anymore, but it still manages to start up every time. I've tried to kill it, but it just won't die! Isn't that amazing? :)

This vehicle has been such a reliable workhorse for us over the years, and we've really come to appreciate it. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a used vehicle.

I really like the crew-cab! It's a great towing vehicle. I've towed my 20 ft car hauler and 2800 lb race truck with no problems. One thing that has helped this truck with any cooling issues and power loss is to purchase a complete cooling fan system for a 98-02 Camaro or Firebird and install it. By taking the belt-driven fan clutch system off and dropping the fans in and adding an aftermarket thermostat control, I've gained several horsepower. This truck has an impressive 352,222 miles on it and it still runs well. I haven't had to do any internal work on the engine or any other major repairs besides regular maintenance. She's getting a little weak now, but I'm going to keep driving her until she dies!

I drove a Nissan Pu 4X4 for 11 years, so I was a little hesitant about buying a domestic truck. However, I must say that I am very impressed with the ride and driveability of this truck. It is very comfortable, has plenty of zip from the 4.3 V6, and is nicely equipped. The optional limited slip rear axle is a great addition. With all four doors, it is easy to access. So far, I have not encountered any problems. As expected with a 4X4, the fuel mileage is not great, but you don't purchase a vehicle of this type for fuel economy. Also, you cannot carry 4X8 sheets of lumber in the bed, but that is a trade-off for having the crew cab. I am still determining the dependability of this truck.

I have experienced several issues with my vehicle since November, and it has required 7 visits to the service center. Despite this, the brake squeak that was causing concern has been resolved after 4 attempts. However, there is now a clunking noise in the steering, which is currently being addressed. The Chevy S-10 is such a good-looking truck! I personally have the extended cab version painted in the 2001 version of a midnight metallic blue, and it looks really sharp. It's also very comfortable for a small vehicle, and the visibility is great, making parking a breeze. Plus, the stereo and CD player are top-notch! However, I have noticed that the 4 cyl. engine doesn't perform as well as I'd like, and the miles per gallon are quite disappointing. Even though I drive the truck conservatively, I can only get about 17 mpg in combined highway and city driving. Not very good for a vehicle with a 4 cylinder low performance engine. If you're considering this truck, I would recommend the 6 cyl. version instead. One great thing about this truck is that since the same body style was made for many years, spare parts are readily available.

I've owned this truck for a little over six years now and I'm disappointed with the quality of construction on this vehicle. There have been constant brake issues, the ABS system went out prematurely, the third door latch broke, the front bearings wore out, the idler arm went bad- all in under seventy thousand miles. However, I appreciate the opportunity to share my experience and hope that GM can improve their products in the future.
