2002 Chevrolet S10 problems

The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.
In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.
The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

This truck is incredibly handy! It holds a lot more than it looks like and is easy to get around in. It's also fun to drive and has a sporty look. The best part is that it has good mileage and I haven't had any problems with it. Plus, all the necessary options come standard!

I bought my S-10 brand new and I wouldn't trade it. I've never had any trouble with it.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this amazing truck that I bought brand new. It has been such a reliable vehicle, with only a minor issue with the ABS brakes that I was able to fix easily. I've only had to replace the tires, oil, and serpentine belt (which was just due to its age). It's perfect for anyone who needs to haul things around or just get from point A to B. Plus, it gets great gas mileage - 27 MPG with gasoline and 21 with E85. I'm actually selling it now, but I'm definitely going to miss it!

I've had the pleasure of driving a Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma crew cab, but I have to say that the Chevy really stood out to me. Not only did it come with more standard amenities, but I was able to get a better appointed truck for a lower price. While the back seat comfort in all the trucks I drove was limited, it was still adequate. On my second tank of gas, I was able to get an impressive 19.6 mpg with mixed city and highway driving.

I really love this truck and have wanted one for a long time. The Zr2 package is my favorite because it makes the truck look like a fun, small-sized off-road pick-up. Even the basic S10 is a nice looking truck, whether it's 4x4, 2wd, stripped, or loaded. This is unlike the Tacoma or Dakota, where if those trucks don't come in the better models, they can look stripped and cheap, especially the Tacoma.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I bought a truck from the original owner. Although I found out that the little motor is supposed to get 22 mpg, I'm only getting 14 right now with 63k on it. Other than the annoying secondary air Injector tripping the check engine light constantly, the lack of power, lack of fuel economy, and being on the third 3rd door handle (now an aluminum one from ebay), I'm still very pleased with the truck. I'm currently trying to figure out what's up with the gas mileage. Thanks for listening!

This 02 4.3L 2WD Base with Extended Cab has been well-maintained with regular oil changes, transmission and coolant flushes. Although I have put more money into this truck than I care to admit, I reflect on its continued performance with pride. Some items have been replaced, such as fuel injectors, thermostat, rear main seal, and radiator. The front caliper seized twice, so I had to install a new front brake system each time. I also did a 100K tune-up with new plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. The third door may not be very useful, and I had to replace the oil cooler line, but the truck still gets 24mpg and has lots of get-up-and-go when I need it. I hope this truck will last until 200K+ with all the effort I've put into it without any more costly repairs.

This S-10 has been very reliable with good handling capabilities and great 'go anywhere' capability. It also has a suspension that is very good for its class and boasts very good fuel economy (23-27hwy & 17-19city) with plenty of power for its class. However, there are some cons to this vehicle such as cheap finishes, trim, paint, and fitting of interior parts. Additionally, the vehicle has a very poor turning radius.

Currently, I have 16000 miles and I'm still happy.

The truck seems to have some fit and finish issues, particularly with the seals and moldings around the doors and windows. Unfortunately, I'm currently experiencing a major problem with the Passkey security system. Despite running fine for a month, the security system is now shutting off the gas to the engine, and it sometimes takes me over an hour to get the truck started. However, the dealership has been very helpful and provided me with a nice loaner car while they work on fixing the issue. Overall, I had really enjoyed the truck before this problem arose, but now I'm reconsidering my purchase.
