2006 Ford Five hundred problems
The Ford Five Hundred is a full-size automobile that was manufactured and marketed by Ford from the 2005 to 2007 model years. Deriving its nameplate from the previous "500" suffix used by Ford during the 1950s to the 1970s on its top-tier trims (Custom 500, Fairlane 500 and Galaxie 500), the Five Hundred was introduced alongside the Ford Fusion as two model lines intended to replace the Ford Taurus. Within the Ford model line, the Five Hundred was slotted between the Fusion and Crown Victoria. Within Lincoln-Mercury, the model line was marketed under a revived Mercury Montego nameplate.
The Five Hundred was an inaugural model of the Ford D3 platform. In several firsts for the full-size Ford line, the platform was front-wheel drive (with optional all-wheel drive), and used unibody construction; for the first time since the Model A, no V8 engine was offered. For the first time since 1978 discontinuation of the Custom 500, Ford offered two distinct full-size nameplates. The Five Hundred was produced solely as a four-door sedan, with the Ford Freestyle taking on the role of the Ford Taurus station wagon.
For 2008, Ford renamed the Five Hundred as the Ford Taurus as part of a model revision (the Montego, as the Mercury Sable), with the Freestyle becoming the Ford Taurus X. Outside of North America and South Korea, the Five Hundred nameplate remained in use until production of the generation ended after 2009.
The Five Hundred was assembled by Ford at its Chicago Assembly facility (Chicago, Illinois) alongside the Freestyle and Montego. Excluding export sales, 241,402 Ford Five Hundreds were produced.

Common 2006 Ford Five hundred problems
The Ford Five Hundred, produced in 2006, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues include engine problems, transmission problems, electrical problems, interior accessory problems, and body and paint problems.
- Electrical Problems: Electrical problems affecting the 2006 Ford Five Hundred include instrument cluster failure and a continuous clicking during ignition. An illuminated check engine light that stays on is also a common electrical problem, which can be a pointer to a possible ECM problem.
- Interior Accessory Problems: The interior accessories of the 2006 Ford Five Hundred occasionally malfunction, which can be caused by a failing ECM. The components or accessories onboard the Ford Five Hundred need sufficient power to function. A bad ECM can lead to the failure of the Ford Five Hundred’s charging system, which might lead to a malfunction of its interior accessories.
- Body and Paint Problems: No one likes the sight of peeling paint, but this is something 2006 Ford Five Hundred owners have to deal with regularly. You will need to perform a paint job on the 2006 Ford Five Hundred to prevent rusting and improve the car’s lifespan.
These common problems with the 2006 Ford Five Hundred can be fixed by taking the car for regular servicing and maintenance. However, some of these issues, such as engine and transmission problems, can be expensive to repair and might require replacement of major components. Therefore, potential buyers of used 2006 Ford Five Hundred should be aware of these common problems and consider them when purchasing the car.

Despite having to replace multiple transmissions on previous Ford vehicles, we decided to purchase another one. However, our 2006 Five Hundred requires a new transmission with under 100k miles. Interestingly, the dealer claimed that we had the new CVT or VCT TYPE transmission, but a second opinion from a mechanic revealed otherwise. It is surprising that the dealer could make such a mistake. Nevertheless, we remain confident in our decision to purchase a Ford.

I wrote a review awhile ago stating I was getting 20 mpg local driving, and mentioned I would write back when I go on a trip. Well, to my surprise, we averaged 29 mpg. Not bad for an all-wheel drive. I am very satisfied.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the vehicle I purchased. When I bought it, it had 19k miles on the odometer and still had the remaining factory warranty. I was impressed with how well the small V-6 (3.0) performed - it was definitely up to the task. The 6 speed auto always had a gear appropriate for the traffic needs, which made driving it a breeze. However, at 53k miles, I ran into some issues with the rear rotors going metal to metal. I found out that many owners go through rear pads every 20k miles, but Ford has offered a pad with slightly different material that lasts as long as 30k miles. I did the repair myself and found that it had already been done before. My wife and I are very conservative drivers, so the premature brake wear was a real concern. Unfortunately, at 53k miles after the brake issue, we found a large oil leak coming from the rear main seal area. In the end, we decided to trade it in for a Chevrolet Impala. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience!

I recently switched from driving SUVs for 16 years, and I found the transition to this car to be incredibly easy. The tall seating position, ample usable space, and luxurious features make it a joy to drive. In terms of power, I think it's perfect for daily driving and it handles beautifully. I was pleasantly surprised by how much get-up-and-go it had when I had to merge onto a busy interstate with no merge area. As a tall person (I'm 6'1

I traded in my Nissan for the Five Hundred SEL and am so happy! Now I get up to 30 mpg (hwy), have great visibility, and a huge trunk. Although some critics have said the engine is underpowered, I disagree. When I want to pass, I tap the gas and it takes off. Plus, my insurance went down due to the car's safety features. I highly recommend the Five Hundred to everyone. Go drive one and see for yourself!

The car has had several issues since purchase, including a ticking motor and constant brake problems. Despite the dealer's attempts to fix the problems, they persist. There have also been odd sounds coming from under the dash and the A/C panel, which have yet to be resolved. Unfortunately, the blame game between the dealer and Ford has not been helpful. As a result, I have decided to take my loyalty to Toyota/Honda and will not be returning to Ford.

I recently purchased a used car with 128k miles on it. Unfortunately, shortly after my purchase, I noticed that the transmission started making a loud clunking noise in lower gears between 2 and 3 on the CVT tranny. It seems that I am not the only one experiencing transmission problems with these cars. I hope that Ford will take the necessary steps to address this issue and announce a recall to keep their customers happy. Doing so would not only improve customer satisfaction but also attract new business. Unless this issue is resolved, I will have to consider other brands for my future purchases.

Hi there! I noticed that the RPMs go up but sometimes when I press on the gas pedal, nothing happens. It could be a fuel injection issue. Additionally, there might be some problems with the brakes master cylinder/calipers and front rotors. Unfortunately, the A/C is no longer working. Let's see how we can fix these issues!
Jeramy Herman 2024-04-05
This car has had a few mechanical issues, unfortunately. With 60,000 miles on the clock, it has needed 3 brake jobs, 1 alternator, 1 front wheel bearing, and 2 idler arm ball joints. I'm disappointed that Fidelity Extended Insurance won't cover these repairs, as they seem like normal wear and tear to me. Overall, I'm not satisfied with my experience and I don't think I'll be purchasing another Ford product.

The paint on the leading edge of the hood is coming apart, which is a factory defect confirmed by the collision center manager at the dealer. Despite Ford not standing up and warranting it, the dealer offered to repaint the hood for $500, but could not warranty the repair due to the problems with the aluminum hood. After contacting Ford Customer Service, the dealer agreed to reduce the cost to $300, with Ford covering $200 of the cost. I am confident that Ford will continue to work towards a satisfactory resolution. Thank you.
