The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.

Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.

After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 2002 Chevrolet G van problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Chevrolet G Van 2002, several common problems have been identified:

  1. Fuel Pump and Fuel Gauge Related Issues:
    • Owners reported erratic behavior of the fuel gauge, leading to the van stalling or losing power intermittently.
    • Replacing the fuel pump did not always resolve the issue, indicating potential problems with the fuel tank pressure sensor or wiring harness.
    • Suggestions included checking the wiring harness for damage or loose connections, as well as wiggling the harness near the tank to replicate gauge issues.
  2. Electronic Throttle Body Problems:
    • Complaints included experiencing an intermittent "reduced power" condition with no throttle response or upshifts/downshifts.
    • Trouble codes like P2135, P0120, and P0220 related to throttle body issues were common.
    • This problem could lead to a lack of throttle response and trigger oxygen sensor heater codes like P0059 and P0155.
  3. Electrical System Recalls:
    • Recalls related to the electrical system were reported, such as issues with the positive battery cable terminals causing electrical short circuits.
    • Owners were advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the necessary repairs were completed.
    • These recalls highlighted potential safety concerns related to the electrical components of the Chevrolet Express 3500.

These common problems with the Chevrolet G Van 2002, as reported by owners and recall notices, indicate a range of issues affecting the fuel system, electrical components, and throttle body. Addressing these issues promptly and accurately is crucial to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the vehicle.
