- Summary: I have this airbag light on problem stated below. It seems it should be a safety recall. Possible solution for Airbag light on Seat Sensor Ok, I'm going to ask a couple of questions and hope that [XXX] or someone with knowledge chimes in. I originally had this problem in my wife's car a couple of months ago, airbag light on, clock flashing after going over a bump with my 240lb ass in the passenger seat. We got home, turned the car off, restarted it and it went through the power-up self test I guess and the fault cleared itself. The other day it started up again, no bump but still had the fat guy in the seat. I noticed that I only saw this issue referring to 2004 model xl7s. I've looked and haven't seen 2003s, or 2005s. The TSB for this issue ONLY refers to 2004 models and says that this is the updated part number 86605-53JA1. If you look at this site that has them in stock: [XXX] It says that part fits 2004-2006. I found the published date for the TSB somewhere online as 12/2004 so they apparently knew the problem early, made an update/change and moved on. Probably changing the design sometime mid-year 04? I don't like the idea of spending $1400 for a part. So, I checked [XXX] and found a nice passenger seat from a 2005 locally for about $75 in a boneyard. Does anyone have any advice why swapping in a 2005 seat (or just the base if the color is wrong, whatever) is a bad idea? Does anyone know if there has to be any special dealer magic/ calibration/ etc done if I put this in myself? I haven't yet had the time to pull the seat out of the car, flip it over and check things out. But I'm not super hopeful that I can fix whatever this sensor is since nobody else has posted anything in the last 13 years. Thanks for your interest. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer after she discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V597000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that after the vehicle was retrieved from the dealer and the recall was presumably completed, the vehicle was driven to the residence and parked. The contact then stated on the same day while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal fuel odor throughout the cabin of the vehicle before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The contact then notified the dealer of the failure, but the contact was denied service. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crank shaft position sensor was faulty. The contact stated that she previously had the vehicle diagnosed by a different independent mechanic and was informed that the engine was not getting fuel when the vehicle was started. The contact was informed that the fuel pump module assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the recall was completed, and further repairs would be at the expense of the owner. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.

BEFORE MY VEHICLE WARRANTY EXPIRED, I HAD TO REPLACE THE GAS CAPS NUMEROUS TIMES RESULTING IN THE REPLACEMENT OF MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NOW BEFORE MY VEHICLE REACHED 100,000 MILES, I AM FORCED TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS (OR COMPLETE COMPUTER OUTPUT). PUGMIRE LINCOLN MERCURY IS THE ONLY DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA THAT PROVIDES REPAIRS FOR MY VEHICLE. AFTER THE HARNESS REPAIR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON, AND THE CODES (IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS) REVEAL THAT CODES: [P2099, P0157, P2272 AND P2099] RESULTING THAT THERE IS AN OIL LEAK, AN O2 SENSOR PROBLEM AND ANOTHER CATALYTIC FUEL PROBLEM AGAIN. - Summary: THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE CAR DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY IF AT ALL WHEN DRIVING AS WELL AS THE THE FUEL GAUGE. THE CAR STARTED IT'S DINGY NOISE AS IF THE KEY IS ALWAYS IN THE IGNITION (WHEN OFF) OR A DOOR IS AJAR. IT WON'T SHUT OFF WHEN DRIVING OR WHEN TURNED AND IT DRAINS THE BATTERY. THIS CAR HAS HAD MORE PROBLEMS AND SHOULD'VE BEEN RECALLED. THE FUEL PUMP WAS RECALLED BUT THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES THAT HAVE HAPPENED. DRIVING WITHOUT THE SPEEDOMETER WORKING OF THE FUEL GAUGE WORKING CORRECTLY SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AND THE DEALER IS NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SUPER FRUSTRATING! DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE NOW FOR OVER A YEAR. HAVING TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 3RD TIME.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2007 Suzuki Xl7.
2012-12-20
- Manufacturer: American Suzuki Motor Corp.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
- Summary: American Suzuki is recalling certain model year 2007 XL-7 vehicles originally sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas; and manufactured June 13, 2006, through December 22, 2006. Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak.
- Consequence: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
- Remedy: American Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. An interim letter was mailed on March 7, 2013. Owners may contact American Suzuki Customer Relations at 1-800-934-0934.

- Summary: CERTAIN VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 212, "WINDSHIELD MOUNTING." AN INCORRECT PRIMER MAY HAVE BEEN USED WHEN INSTALLING THE WINDSHIELD.
- Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE WINDSHIELD MAY NOT BE RETAINED TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURIES TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ANY GLASS (WINDSHIELD, LIFTGATE GLASS, OR THE SIDE STATIONARY GLASS) THAT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY.THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 10, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

This car is fantastic! It's bigger than Toyota and all the others in its class, and it comes at a great price. Plus, it looks great too! I've already put 1080 miles on it and I'm loving every minute of it. The engine is powerful and it's very comfortable to drive.

This vehicle is beyond my expectations! I drove a Ford minivan before and my Suzuki XL7 is a dream! Suzi has so much power and great handling. I appreciate the luxury I have for the price. The value is fabulous. It feels so good to drive around in a car you feel safe in. I love this vehicle.

Congratulations on your new XL7 luxury package with a sunroof and 3rd row! It's great to hear that you had a comfortable 6-7 hour trip to Virginia and that the car performed well. With its size, style, features, great price, and warranty, it's surprising that the XL7 isn't more popular. I used to own a Nissan Maxima and I was convinced that my next car would also be a Nissan. However, a colleague of mine purchased an XL-7 and I had the opportunity to drive it one day. I immediately fell in love with it! Now, I am a proud owner of my own XL-7 and I couldn't be happier. Recently, I took my grandson to Disney for his 3rd birthday, and we had to travel 2,000 miles round trip. It was such a relief to be in a safe and reliable vehicle like the XL-7.

It's great to hear about your experience with your SUV! You were able to enjoy it for quite a while, and it sounds like you got a great deal when you bought it. It's good to know that you were able to get all of the necessary service done at the dealer. Although there were a few issues with the car, it's great that you were able to get them fixed. In my previous post titled 'Disappointed on 08/14/2007', I described some early issues with my vehicle. Since then, the catalytic converter has been changed and the car has been in the shop 3-4 times due to engine shutting off in traffic, sporadic engine light, engine stumbles, fuel gauge acting up, and passenger dashboard airbag panel cracking. It's worth noting that everything in this vehicle is controlled by the computer, including fuel, timing, and transmission. Despite my repeated requests to the dealer to replace it, they have refused to do so unless a catastrophic failure occurs. Unfortunately, my overall experience with this vehicle has been frustrating and has made me hesitant to consider purchasing another Suzuki product.

I purchased my XL7 with approximately 70 miles on it. Although I experienced some issues during the first few months, I took it to the dealer for repairs and they were able to fix it. However, I recently encountered a problem where the airbag on the passenger side went through the first stage of deployment in the dashboard. Despite there being no codes registered, Suzuki replaced the airbag and dashboard. Unfortunately, the same issue occurred again a few months later, but Suzuki is now claiming that it didn't happen due to no codes being present. Nevertheless, I have proof of the perforation mark in the dashboard from the previous deployment, and all other details are consistent with the first incident.

Car horn stops working every time I go to car wash. Stereo/DVD replaced twice first year and a half. When stereo/DVD goes, turn signals stop working. I drive from gas station to gas station. Gas mileage is probably worst in class. Will stick with Nissans and Hondas in future.

This car has been an excellent choice for us, providing comfort on long trips from Seattle to Montana and even achieving 27 mpg on that journey. With a larger gas tank than most SUVs in its class, it has a huge cargo capacity, making it ideal for loading up. Despite its value decreasing, we decided to keep it after considering the fuel economy and cost of other SUVs on the market. It even performed well in 6 inches of snow with just cable chains on the front tires. Overall, this SUV has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective option.
