The Cadillac ATS (ATS as an acronym for Alpha Touring Sedan) is a compact executive car (D-segment) manufactured by General Motors and marketed by Cadillac from 2012 to 2019, available in both four-door sedan and two-door coupé body styles. In the US, it is the brand's first locally-built entry-level premium car since the Cimarron, and in Europe, it is the successor of the Swedish-built Cadillac BLS. The ATS was developed at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and assembled the ATS at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan.
The ATS is based on General Motors' Alpha platform and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. The ATS base engine had been a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I-4 gasoline engine that produces 202 hp (151 kW), until the 2016 model year. Optional engines include a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline engine that produces 272 hp (203 kW) and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine that produces 321 hp (239 kW). The 2.0-liter engine replaced the 2.5-liter engine as the base engine for the 2017 model year. All versions were equipped with a 6-speed GM 6L45 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission as standard until the 2015 model year. An 8-speed automatic transmission was introduced for the 2016 model year. The 2.0-liter turbocharged, rear-wheel drive version can be mated to an optional 6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual transmission.
Prior to the debut of the ATS, Cadillac's smallest vehicle was the E-segment CTS. The CTS was comparable in price to D-segment competitors like the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, the Lexus IS and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, however was comparable in size and weight to the more expensive BMW 5 Series. Although Cadillac believed that customers would favor a Mercedes-Benz E-Class-sized sedan at the price of a 3 Series, this assumption was proven to be incorrect. Cadillac's research found that target customers who already owned vehicles like the 3 Series or A4 did not want a larger vehicle.
Cadillac debuted the ATS to the press in the United States in January 2012, placed the ATS into production in July 2012 and began selling the ATS in the United States in August 2012 as a 2013 model. GM began selling the ATS in China in November 2013. Cadillac sold the ATS in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and South Korea. The ATS was replaced by the Cadillac CT4 in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

- Summary: The contact owned a 2016 Cadillac ATS. The contact stated while driving 40-50 MPH and entering the expressway, she engaged the turn signal and verified that the road was cleared. The contact stated that while she was making the turn, an 18-wheeler truck suddenly hit the vehicle, causing the vehicle to crash into another vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was hit three times and spun onto the median, where the vehicle continued to spin until it hit the fence. - Summary: Reporting a case for GM recall N182161890. I bought my vehicle in 2022. I was informed that my car had all the recalls completed on that vehicle. My vehicle had exactly what this recall was for happen to it on 10/20/23. After contacting Cadillac, they informed me that this recall was never completed on my vehicle. Cadillac then told me that this recall was expired so it can no longer be completed. They said that the recall expired on 11/30/2020. I was under the impression that recalls do not expire, especially ones that can cause lose of power steering and could lead to collision or injury. Cadillac told me it expired because it was a "Customer Satisfaction Program" recall and not a "Product Safety" recall. I'm confused on how the lose of steering is not a product safety issue. Cadillac is unwilling to fix the recall at this time, even though they have confirmed it had never been completed.

Recall date 2015-09-03 Recall no.15V558000 General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS sedan vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to September 2, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger system may generate excessive heat due to excessive cycling or continuous operation. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT COULD NOT FIND A FAILURE. THE CONTACT WENT TO THE SAME DEALER AFTER THE CRASH AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN FEATURE IN THE VEHICLE THAT FAILED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE SENIOR ADVISER STATED THAT THE PRODUCT DIVISION WOULD BE NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RED NOLAND CADILLAC (719-633-4633, LOCATED AT 990 MOTOR CITY DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO ONE AVAILABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO ALPINE BUICK GMC SOUTH (719-301-2573, LOCATED AT 1313 MOTOR CITY DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE INSPECTED RIGHT AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST PIPE DETACHED AND CAUSED CARBON MONOXIDE TO BLOW INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO DEALER THAT WAS WILLING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING AROUND LOOKING FOR DEALERS, THE CONTACT BECAME ILL AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DOCTOR INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HER ILLNESS WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD SHE NOT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO SEND A TOW TRUCK. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WAS NO NEED FOR A TOW TRUCK, RATHER SPEAK WITH EITHER OF THE DEALERS TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO LEWIS CHEVROLET CADILLAC OF GARDEN CITY (620-275-7171, LOCATED AT 1903 US-50 BUS, GARDEN CITY, KS 67846) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND STATED THAT SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE RETRIEVING OR DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,700.

- Summary: ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 22ND I WAS GOING TO A CAR MEET. ON MY WAY TO THE MEET I WAS HAVING SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH MY CAR. THE RADIO AND MY SEATS WERE ACTING WEIRD. THE RADIO WOULD TURN UP AND DOWN BY ITSELF AND THE HEATED SEATS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. I GOT TO THE MEET AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON MY WAY HOME I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR WAS DOING THE SAME THING AND ABOUT A FEW MILES FROM MY HOUSE I STARTED TO SMELL ELECTRICAL BURNING. I WAS PULLING OVER WHEN SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THERE WHERE FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT. I SLAMMED THE CAR IN PARK AND JUMPED OUT JUST IN TIME AS THE CAR WAS CONSUMED IN FLAMES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND BEDFORD FIRE AND POLICE RESPONDED WITHIN MINUTES. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. I BELIEVE THERE WAS AN ISSUE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR THE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT. I'M JUST HAPPY I DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.

I owned a particular VEE that lived up to all my expectations. It was powerful, smooth, and luxurious, and the 6-speed manual made it all go. Unfortunately, due to my disability, I couldn't dump that clutch like I used to, otherwise, it would still be black like Dark Vader and still in my driveway. I recently wanted an automatic, but the white one had engine problems, and the second one was overpriced for a 2016 VEE. I can't leave out the awesome BOSE system, which I enhanced with a box in the trunk for big boom and bottom. All the others gave me respect, that's all. 💯

Pros: This vehicle stands out from the competition in its class (M3/M4, AMG 63s, Gulia Quad4, Lexus or the Infinity Q50/Q60s) due to its understated/sleeper status. It doesn't disappoint in power and handling, with a lot still left on the table by Cadillac (wait until you are out of warranty period to really unlock the full potential of this beauty...it can easily achieve 550hp from stock internals). The chassis is very well planted and the unique aggressive styling and form definitely passes the I personally prefer the unique lines of the coupe, but if you need more space, the sedan is definitely the winner. However, keep in mind that the split seats come standard in the coupe, but are an additional option in the sedan. Additionally, the sedan has a similar look to the old 2nd gen CTS. If you prioritize car fun and engagement over 0-60 times reported on paper, then choose the manual option. It's better for heavy traffic in the city, and you'll thank your inner gearhead/child for it down the line. Good luck finding a good specimen before more people wake up to this hidden gem!

Update: While driving home one day on the freeway (at less than the speed limit), someone was merging into me and I changed lanes. The steering overcompensated and it caused an accident which damaged the rear bumper. Although my experience with the dealership and with Cadillac was not ideal, I appreciate their efforts to repair my car. They quoted 6k for repairs and it took over 4 months at a cost of over 19k until I got the car back, but I am grateful that they were able to fix it. Since I no longer feel confident in the safety of this vehicle, I cannot in good conscience recommend this car to anyone. However, I do believe that Cadillac has created something truly unique with the ATS-V series coupe, and I wanted to write this review to share my honest experiences with this car from the perspective of a person who works, goes to school, has a family, and uses it as his daily driver. To begin with, I want to start with the tremendous value of this vehicle. If you look around, you can find a great deal on a new or slightly used ATS-V, which instantly makes it within the grasp of a lot more people, making it a steal to buy one at the moment. Next, I will briefly talk about performance. This car has more power than anyone would ever need for driving purposes, while having enough extra to have fun at the track if you do want to take it to the limits. I have the version with a manual 6 speed which is an amazing transmission, and really in normal driving you don't even need the 5th or 6th gear. 1st gear will take you to 37MPH if you want to have fun, or you can shift sooner for when the family is in the car.With the rev matching, which can be easily turned on or off via paddle shifters, and in touring mode, you can have a nice gentle ride. My kids prefer when I'm in sport mode with the slightly more connected suspension. You can choose the level at which you are connected to the road and adjust the electronic assists to your liking. Let's talk about comfort and interior quality. The seats are bolstered and very comfortable. I have the regular seats, but the Recaro's are also nice, although they are narrower. The interior finish is nice too. Many reviewers seem to dislike the gauge cluster and the touch controls for the radio. To be honest, I have never had an issue with either of those. The gauge cluster has all of the information you need, and I never look at it except for fuel level since the HUD gives me all the information I really need for driving. I know there are some digital clusters out there that are fancy and can look nicer, but in reality when you are driving, you should at least pretend to be looking at the road. As for the touch controls, the ATS-V has Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and I have never actually touched the controls on the radio because I use the buttons that are integrated on the steering wheel and the touchscreen. I can see this as being annoying to some, and I agree that actual buttons would probably have been a better option, but it's not enough to justify not getting the car. I also like that the touchscreen is actually integrated into the dashboard rather than a random screen placed on it as if it were an afterthought like so many of the Germans like to do.Other than that, the back seats are small, but perfect for kids, making it an ideal family car, especially with an outlet in the back and 4g connectivity. There are also plenty of compartments and storage space, including a compartment behind the stereo that doubles as a charging mat. The only minor issue I have with the interior is that the cupholders in the front are behind the shifter, which can be slightly annoying if you actually decide to use them, but it's not a big deal. I have a manual in a Cadillac, so I can't really complain too much. Finally, let's talk about the exterior styling. This is obviously subjective, but I think that the front of the car is edgy and beautiful, while the back is more of a classic Cadillac conservative styling. What's great about this car is how few of them are around. I have had many people tell me how much they love the look of my car, and a big part of that is because you rarely see them. I have only seen 2 other V-Series coupes since I've had this car, and both were different colors (and one was driven by one of my law school professors who randomly switches between cars). The BMW M3 is a beautiful car, but they are a dime a dozen. I think this car looks nicer, and with its relative rarity, it gives it a nice edge since you see so few of them.

The handling and pick up of the car were great, although the electronics were a little short. The seats were comfortable, but there was no rear seat and the trunk was small. Despite these drawbacks, the car was a sleeper and moved out quickly. However, after one month, I realized that buying this car was the biggest mistake I ever made. The CUE flat out did not work, and it has been in AutoNation of West Palm for over three months trying to fix the electronics. I strongly recommend researching the CUE systems for at least 4 years before making a purchase, as they have known about this issue and done nothing. This was the worst car I ever owned, and I would never buy another Caddy. I also own a ZO6/ZO7, and I have not had a single issue with their infotainment center. I suggest buying anything else unless you want to live without your car for months and spend your life at the dealership. Shame on Edmunds for not reporting this issue. I am currently seeking Lemon Law on this piece of crap they call a fine automobile. The car was serviced 4 times for the same issue, and I spent approximately 12 weeks without a vehicle. It was given back to me in horrible shape, with black spots in the paint that will need to be clay bared, etc. I am glad that GM bought the car back, and I was not stuck with it. Although it was fast, Caddy has a long way to go before anyone should buy one of these. I am just trying to save someone the headaches. Just google CUE issues, as they have known about this since 2013 but still sell the vehicles anyway. The handling of the car was great, better than my M3, and it was very fast. I loved the Recaro seats, but the interior was cheap for a 75 plus car. I bought a Mercedes CTS with 2000 miles on it, a 2016 that's a real machine with coil overs and RennTech tune 620HP, and wow what a monster. Good luck, and be very careful of the Caddys. I now know why their service department was always so backed up. Stay away from AutoNation at all costs, as it has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They could learn a lot from Braman. I hope this truly helps someone from making a huge mistake and spending all that time in service. Sincerely, Paul Berger.
