The Cadillac ATS (ATS as an acronym for Alpha Touring Sedan) is a compact executive car (D-segment) manufactured by General Motors and marketed by Cadillac from 2012 to 2019, available in both four-door sedan and two-door coupé body styles. In the US, it is the brand's first locally-built entry-level premium car since the Cimarron, and in Europe, it is the successor of the Swedish-built Cadillac BLS. The ATS was developed at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and assembled the ATS at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan.

The ATS is based on General Motors' Alpha platform and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. The ATS base engine had been a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I-4 gasoline engine that produces 202 hp (151 kW), until the 2016 model year. Optional engines include a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline engine that produces 272 hp (203 kW) and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine that produces 321 hp (239 kW). The 2.0-liter engine replaced the 2.5-liter engine as the base engine for the 2017 model year. All versions were equipped with a 6-speed GM 6L45 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission as standard until the 2015 model year. An 8-speed automatic transmission was introduced for the 2016 model year. The 2.0-liter turbocharged, rear-wheel drive version can be mated to an optional 6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual transmission.

Prior to the debut of the ATS, Cadillac's smallest vehicle was the E-segment CTS. The CTS was comparable in price to D-segment competitors like the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, the Lexus IS and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, however was comparable in size and weight to the more expensive BMW 5 Series. Although Cadillac believed that customers would favor a Mercedes-Benz E-Class-sized sedan at the price of a 3 Series, this assumption was proven to be incorrect. Cadillac's research found that target customers who already owned vehicles like the 3 Series or A4 did not want a larger vehicle.

Cadillac debuted the ATS to the press in the United States in January 2012, placed the ATS into production in July 2012 and began selling the ATS in the United States in August 2012 as a 2013 model. GM began selling the ATS in China in November 2013. Cadillac sold the ATS in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and South Korea. The ATS was replaced by the Cadillac CT4 in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

SEAT BELTS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-06-06
  • VIN: 1G6AB5RX6H0
  • Components: SEAT BELTS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: SEAT BELT ON DRIVERS SIDE DOES NOT SOUND ANY TYPE OF WARNING THAT SEAT BELT IS NOT ON UNTIL I AM SOMETIMES 5 MILES OR 2 MILES OR JUST 3 BLOCKS AWAY BEFORE ANY SOUND COMES ON TO LET ME KNOW I DO NOT HAVE SEAT BELT ON. ITS A EXTREMELY LIGHT SOUND WHEREAS THE PASSENGER SIDE STARTS MAKING LOUD BEEPING SOUND IF NO SEAT BELT IS PUT ON BEFORE I EVEN GET OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOES SHOW AT SOME POINT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL THE SMALL RED SEAT BELT WARNING. MY OTHER CARS IMMEDIATELY MAKE NOISE BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY IF NO SEAT BELT IS DETECTED UNFASTENED. THE GAS TANK GAGE NEVER SENDS ANY WARNING SIGNALS THAT THE GAS IF PAST THE EMPTY MARK AS I DISCOVERED WHEN ON A 3 MILE BRIDGE AND DISCOVERED THAT MY GAS TANK WAS COMPLETELY ON EMPTY WHEN I LOOKED AT INSTRUMENT PANEL. IT GAVE ME NO WARNING AT ALL OF THIS PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY TO BE WITHIN A MILE OF A GAS STATION AS I WAS GOING OFF THE BRIDGE TO ADD GAS. I TOOK CAR TO CADILLAC DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS BUT I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WHEN CAR WAS PURCHASED THAT THEY DID NOT WANT TO FIX SUCH AS TIRE PROBLEMS GOING FLAT OVER AND OVER. THEY FINALLY REPLACED ONE OF THE WHEELS.

Negative 2017 Cadillac Ats-v car reviews

  1. Herbert Kessler 2024-01-27

The handling and pick up of the car were great, although the electronics were a little short. The seats were comfortable, but there was no rear seat and the trunk was small. Despite these drawbacks, the car was a sleeper and moved out quickly. However, I had a bad experience with the CUE system. It did not work at all and had to be serviced multiple times. I would recommend researching the CUE system for at least 4 years before purchasing a Cadillac. I also own a ZO6/ZO7 and have had no issues with their infotainment center. If you want to avoid spending months at the dealership, I suggest buying a different car. I recently bought a Mercedes CTS with 2000 miles on it, and it's a real machine with coil overs and RennTech tune 620HP. Good luck and be very careful with Cadillacs. I hope this review helps someone avoid making a huge mistake. Sincerely, Paul Berger.

Positive 2017 Cadillac Ats-v car reviews

  1. Darron Rau 2025-02-23

This car is in a league of its own, more comparable to a BMW M4 or Mercedes AMG C63 S than a Camry or Accord. When compared to those cars, they're all pretty even. The Caddie has the nicest powerband with the twin-turbo. The 8 speed automatic (GM 8L90) is borrowed from the 650hp Corvette Z-06, so in the application it's pretty bullet-proof and understressed. It shifts every bit as quickly as Porsche's PDK. It's a wonderful driver. You really can't describe it, but rather you have to drive it to understand. It feels as though it is on rails. The interior quality is very high. The Cadillac CUE has been updated and I don't mind it a bit. It is a little slower to adjust fan speed or temp. People have complained on the BMW fanboy site 'Bimmerpost' that the instrument panel looks outdated, but I think it's fine. It has a totally cool, configurable HUD like an F-16 fighter that really makes the instrument panel unnecessary. All 3 of these top-notch sports sedans have their own personalities and whichever you pick will get you a winner. What I liked about the Caddie was that performance-wise or, really any measure, it is the equal of Europe's best. The Caddie gives up NOTHING in performance, comfort, or technology. Numerous outings from Willow Springs to the Nurburgring have shown it at least equal to BMW and Mercedes best. The Caddie has touring/sport/track modes that adjust damping/shifting and other parameters that make it excel as a daily driver. The back seat is pretty cramped--seriously. Not for adults. But I didn't buy it for the back seat though. All that should go into my back seat is a piece of soft luggage. The Caddie is tens of thousands of dollars less than the other two and is arguably better. And finally, you can feel good about driving an American car. I NEVER thought I would own a GM car. It's a new company though. The 2016 ATS-V, Camaro, CTS-V, and Corvette Z-06 are all world-class cars at bargain prices. No longer is driving one a compromise. They are among the best. I am more impressed with this car every time I drive it. The engine and automatic transmission are absolutely stunning. The chassis is very stiff. The feature list is high. It's an amazing vehicle. Other cars I considered were the CTS-V, the Corvette Z-06 (way too cramped for me), the Jaguar F-Type R, and the Porsche 911. I'm very happy with my choice.

Take this car for a spin on the track and you'll forget all about the CUE system bugs, the cramped back seat, and the mediocre visibility. As one instructor put it, this car is incredibly well planted. While it may not be the most practical choice for everyday use, it's still a better car than most drivers out there, myself included. Sure, the ride can be a bit harsh, even on tour setting, and the carbon fiber effects are prone to getting crushed by parking lot bumpers. And with a smallish gas tank, the gas mileage only yields a range of a couple hundred miles. But let's be honest, you don't buy a V type for practicality. Plus, it gets a lot of attention. Even the service manager at the last dealer I took it to couldn't help but drool over it, saying he had never seen one with a 6-speed stick. All in all, I really like it, and I'm willing to overlook its shortcomings.

It's great to hear that you've had experience with several amazing cars, including Corvettes and BMWs! I completely agree that the ATS V Coupe is an exceptional machine in every way. It's unfortunate that the 2019 Coupe is the final production of this model, but it's exciting to hear that a high-end sports Coupe is on the horizon, potentially a mid-engine ultra-luxury brother to the new C8 Corvette! (12/28/2019) As of this update, there hasn't been any word of a Cadillac version of the C8 Vette. I'm glad to hear that your ATS is still in great condition! Due to the chip shortage, it seems that there are no new cars available, but it's great that Cadillac has extended your lease by 6 months. Let me know if you need help finding new tires!

  4. Travon Armstrong 2025-01-02

This car is comparable to the Corvette with its 6.2 base engine in terms of acceleration, steering, figure eight time, g-force, and braking. Everything else is subjective. Most coupes and sedans have a similar look, attempting to emulate the modern redesign of the BMW 7 series. Cadillac, on the other hand, dares to be different, and I appreciate its distinctiveness. It is a true sleeper and a pleasant surprise to those who challenge you at a stoplight. While the CUE computer management system has been criticized, I find it easy to learn and use, and it is not slow in any way. I have read a review that criticized the automatic transmission, but the V transmission is the same one found in the Corvette and is quite thrilling in race mode.

I owned a particular VEE that lived up to all my expectations. It was powerful, smooth, and luxurious, and the 6-speed manual made it all go. Unfortunately, due to my disability, I couldn't dump that clutch like I used to, otherwise, it would still be black like Dark Vader and still in my driveway. I recently wanted an automatic, but the white one had engine problems, and the second one was overpriced for a 2016 VEE. I can't leave out the awesome BOSE system, which I enhanced with a box in the trunk for big boom and bottom. All the others gave me respect, that's all. 💯
