2003 Mercury Marauder problems
The Mercury Marauder is an automobile nameplate that was used for three distinct full-size cars produced by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from the most powerful engines available to the Mercury line, the Marauder was marketed as the highest-performance version of the full-size product range.
Introduced as a 19631⁄2 model line for its first production run, the Mercury Marauder was distinguished by its sloped roofline (shared with the Ford Galaxie). The nameplate was a sub-model of the three Mercury model lines (Monterey, Monterey Custom, and S-55).
For the 1966 model year, the Marauder was replaced by the S-55 as a stand-alone model line, making it the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Galaxie 500 XL version.
The Marauder model name returned as a fastback-like version of the Mercury Marquis for the 1969 model year. It was positioned as a personal luxury car between the Mercury Cougar and Continental Mark III. Following the 1970 model year, the Marauder model was discontinued.
The Mercury Marauder nameplate was revived for the 2003 model year as a high-performance variant of the full-size Grand Marquis using the Ford Panther platform. After lower-than-expected sales, the Marauder was discontinued at the end of the 2004 model year. The Mercury Marauder became the last rear-wheel drive sedan introduced by Ford Motor Company in North America.

Common 2003 Mercury Marauder problems
The Mercury Marauder, produced in 2003 and 2004, is known for its powerful 32-valve engine, shared with the SVT Cobra of the same era. However, there are several common problems that owners have reported with this vehicle.
One of the most frequently reported issues is engine misfires and check engine light illumination. This could be due to a variety of factors, including faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel injectors. It is essential to diagnose and address this issue promptly, as it can lead to decreased performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and even potential engine damage if left unchecked.
Another issue that has been reported by Mercury Marauder owners is headlight failure. This can be a significant safety concern, as proper lighting is crucial for nighttime driving. It is essential to address this issue promptly to ensure the vehicle remains safe to operate.
The 2003 Mercury Marauder has also been reported to have axle issues, with one complaint recorded on the mercuryproblems.com website. This can potentially lead to difficulty steering or handling the vehicle, and it is crucial to have this issue addressed promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.
While the Mercury Marauder is known for its powerful engine, it has been criticized for being underpowered when it was first released in 2003, with mid-15s quarter-mile times. This can be a concern for those looking for a high-performance vehicle, and it is essential to consider this factor when purchasing a Mercury Marauder.
Despite these issues, many Mercury Marauder owners have reported positive experiences with the vehicle, praising its comfortable highway cruising capabilities and robust drivetrain. However, it is crucial to be aware of these common problems and address them promptly to ensure the vehicle remains safe, reliable, and enjoyable to drive.

TURNED ON LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND HEAD LIGHTS CAME ON. JIGGLED MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND HEAD LIGHTS FLICKERED AS DID LEFT TURN LAMP. THE NEXT EVENING MORE TIME WAS SPENT TRYING TO GET THE HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON, BUT NOTHING HAS WORKED. THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE NOT WORKED SINCE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE HEADLIGHT AUTOLAMP POSITION TO TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING THE HEADLIGHT MANUAL POSITION TO WORK BUT NEITHER OF THE HEADLIGHT POSITIONS IS WORKING ON THE CAR. The only real complaint I have is about the radio. The subwoofer vibrates the parcel shelf and the overall sound quality is not as good as in my F-150 pick-up. However, I am very happy with the vehicle as a whole. I am also the previous owner of a Taurus SHO and a couple of Miatas.
-
I've driven my Marauder approximately 3500 miles and I think it's really great. It's fun to drive, very solid, and well-built. I like it more every time I drive it.
-
Overall, this is a great car to drive. I might tinker with it a bit to get some more low-end power, but I'm already satisfied with it. As for those who don't like it, well, everyone has their own preferences, right?
-
Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to test drive a really cool car. It was so much fun! Even though I don't have $35K, I still got to enjoy it for an hour. The car looks like a sedan that a businessman would own, but it handles and performs like a much smaller, faster car. The 50/50 weight distribution makes for very tight handling. I did hear that driving this car might attract some attention from the police, but that's not surprising given how powerful it is!
-
I've been in law enforcement for 28 years and have attended all the high-speed police driving courses. I'm even a certified anti-terrorist driving instructor. I wanted a vehicle that was understated, beautiful, powerful, and comfortable, and the Marauder fit the bill perfectly. This car is a real head-turner! I added tint and a CD changer to make it even better. It rides like a Lincoln on steroids with a real suspension and corners like it means business. However, I must admit that I enjoy being the sole owner of such a fine piece of American automotive engineering in my area, so please don't buy one!

Hey there! If you're looking to save some money, you might want to consider the Crown Victoria Sport instead. It has slightly less lb./ft. of torque, but it's still a great option. By the way, have you heard about Mercury's decision to use the engine from the Lincoln Mark VIII? Some people think they should have gone with a supercharged version of the 4.6 instead. What do you think?
