Buick Lesabre 2000 problems
The Buick LeSabre is a full-size car made by the division Buick of General Motors from 1959 until 2005. Prior to 1959, this position had been retained by the full-size Buick Special model (1936–58). The "LeSabre", which is French for "the sabre", was Buick's mid-level full-size sedan above the Special but below the Electra during the 1960s then remained in its market position when the Electra was replaced with the Park Avenue. The LeSabre was available as a 2-door convertible, sedan or hardtop, a 4-door sedan or hardtop and station wagon throughout its production.
History of model
The LeSabre nameplate made its first appearance on the 1951 Le Sabre show car, which introduced the world to aircraft-inspired design elements such as the wrap-around windshield and tail fins. In 1959 LeSabre became the new moniker for what had previously been known as the Buick Special. The Buick LeSabre was offered in a full line of body styles except between 1965 and 1969 when its station wagon variant was dropped from Buick's full-size offerings. In 1977, the LeSabre was downsized along with other GM full-size models, and was available only in pillared coupe, sedan and wagon body styles.
In addition to being Buick's entry level vehicle, the LeSabre was consistently Buick's best selling full-size car. Of the four nameplates introduced in 1959 (LeSabre, Invicta, Electra, Electra 225), the LeSabre nameplate lasted the longest.
From 1959 to 1961, the LeSabre was powered by a 364 cubic-inch V8, which was smaller than the 401 cubic-inch V8 used in the more expensive Invicta and Electra models. The 364, which was previously used in all Buicks in 1957 and 1958, was rated at 250 horsepower (190 kW) in standard form with an "economy" 235 horsepower (175 kW) version offered as a "no cost" option in 1960-61 and an optional power-pack version with four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts that was rated at 300 horsepower (220 kW). For 1962–63, the LeSabre came standard with a two-barrel carbureted version of the 401 V8 rated at 280 horsepower (210 kW), or a no-cost "economy" low-compression version rated at 260 horsepower (190 kW). Starting in 1964, all LeSabre models except the Estate Wagon shared their drivetrains with the midsize Buick models by switching to those models' smaller-displacement V8s at least as standard equipment for the next few years with cubic-inch displacements of 300 (1964–65), 340 (1966–67) and 350 (1968–76). A large-displacement would not reappear in a LeSabre until 1970 when a 455 cubic-inch V8 was introduced as an option and was offered through 1976. Beginning with the downsized 1977 models and continuing through three subsequent generations of front-drive LeSabres introduced in 1986, 1992 and 2000, Buick's 3.8-liter (231 cubic-inch) V6 would become the standard engine for most LeSabre models and V8 engines were dropped (except in station wagons) after the last of the rear-drive LeSabre sedans and coupes came off the line in 1985.
For most years from 1959 to 1971, a three-speed manual transmission was standard equipment on all LeSabres but rarely ordered. Far more popular was the Turbine Drive automatic transmission (previously known as Dynaflow) along with power steering and power brakes. For 1961 and 1962, the automatic transmission was standard on the LeSabre and all other full-sized Buicks but in 1963 was moved back to the option list on LeSabres. For 1964, the Dynaflow-based Turbine Drive was replaced by two new automatic transmissions, the two-speed Super Turbine 300 and the three-speed Super Turbine 400. A four-speed manual transmission was offered as a LeSabre option from 1963 to 1965 but only a small number of cars were so equipped. Automatic transmissions would once again reappear as standard equipment on LeSabres in mid-1971 and continue in such form until the model line's demise after 2005.
LeSabres were rear-drive six-passenger vehicles from 1959 to 1985 (station wagons through 1990) featuring separate body-on-frame construction along with a longitudinally mounted front engine. The first downsized generation of LeSabres introduced in 1977 retained the rear-drive and body-on-frame construction, while the later-generation models introduced in 1986 switched to front-wheel-drive, unit-body construction and transversely mounted engine. Convertibles were offered each year through 1975 while two- and four-door hardtops were dropped after 1976 and only pillared body styles were offered from 1977 to 2005. Station wagons were offered through 1964 and then dropped for several years until being reintroduced in 1970 and continued until 1990 after which year they were moved to the revived Roadmaster series. LeSabres come in two versions: Custom and Limited.

Common Buick Lesabre 2000 problems
The Buick LeSabre, produced between 1959 and 2005, is known for its smooth and comfortable ride, spacious interior, and dependable performance. However, like any other vehicle, it has its fair share of problems, especially as it ages. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of the 2000-2005 Buick LeSabre:
- Leaking oil and coolant from the intake: The intake system in the Buick LeSabre consists of the intake plenum or upper intake and the lower intake, and the gasket can wear and leak oil or coolant. Sometimes these fluids can mix internally. The intake manifold plenum might crack, and the coolant tubes are also known to break. The valve cover gasket is also known to leak. Replacing the intake gasket, upper intake manifold plenum, and coolant tubes, as well as inspecting and replacing the valve cover gaskets, can fix this problem.
- Harsh shifting: The pressure control solenoid is located inside the transmission and is known to fail and cause shifting problems on the 8th gen Buick LeSabre. Replacing the solenoid can fix this issue, but it requires draining the transmission fluid, removing the side cover, and removing the solenoid, which can be a detailed repair.
- Spongy or bouncy ride: The air ride shocks are known to fail in the 2000 to 2005 Buick LeSabre, and this can make your drive feel spongy or bouncy. Converting the air ride shocks to coil-over shocks can fix this problem long-term, but it can be expensive.
- Bad intake gasket: A bad intake gasket can cause leaking oil and coolant from the intake. The intake consists of the intake plenum or upper intake and the lower intake, and the gasket can wear and leak coolant or oil. Sometimes these fluids can mix internally. The intake manifold plenum might crack, and the coolant tubes are also known to break. The valve cover gasket is known to leak. Removing the upper intake manifold to replace the intake gasket, looking for cracking in the coolant tubes, and replacing the valve cover gaskets can fix this problem .
- Loss of power steering fluid from steering rack failure: This is a common problem with the Buick LeSabre, and it can lead to a loss of power steering fluid, which can make it difficult to turn the steering wheel. Replacing the steering rack can fix this issue, but it can be expensive.
These are just some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2000-2005 Buick LeSabre. It's important to note that not all vehicles of this model will experience these issues, and many can last for many years with proper maintenance and care. However, if you own a Buick LeSabre or are considering buying one, it's a good idea to be aware of these potential problems and budget accordingly for any necessary repairs.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-27
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1g4hp54k9y4
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I started my car in the morning, per my usual routine. After a few seconds, I heard a very loud bang and the car stalled. A few seconds later, there was a large amount of smoke coming from under the hood. I opened the hood to see a large fire had started. My son, who heard the loud bang, came outside and saw the flames from under the hood. He ran into the house, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and attempted to put out the fire. He got the fire out but it was difficult. I had the car looked at by a mechanic and told me that the intake manifold had literally exploded. He has stated that he has never seen anything like this. It appears that the exploding manifold ruptured a fuel line. He told me there was a recall on this vehicle relating to a rupturing manifold and leaking fuel but that my vehicle had already had the recall performed. He thought that the new parts may be defective which is why I am reporting this incident.

You have a really nice car! It's great to hear that everyone you talk to thinks it's classy. And it's even better to know that your motorhead contacts consider it one of the most reliable cars available on the planet.

I wasn't too keen on getting the LeSabre at first because it seemed like a car for 'middle-aged' people, but my husband is a big guy and we needed a spacious car. I must say, this is the smoothest ride I've ever experienced. It's so comfortable that you have to be careful not to exceed the speed limit. It's a really nice car.

I purchased a used LaSabre from a friend whose mother had gone into a permanent nursing facility. The car had been well-maintained with regular oil changes every 5K miles and had only 120K miles on it. Unfortunately, while driving on the highway at 85 mph, I heard an odd slapping noise, similar to a loose undershield. The noise grew louder, prompting me to pull over. Just as I came to a stop, the engine died and seized without any warning lights or indications of a problem. Despite this unexpected issue, I remain confident in my ability to make informed decisions when purchasing a vehicle.

In 2008, a family member generously gave us a 2000 Buick Lesabre with 50k miles on it. Although it wasn't our first choice, we were grateful for the gift. However, after 8 years and 105k miles, the car has had its fair share of wear and tear. We've experienced some issues with the interior, such as loose parts and broken cup holders, but we've managed to make it work. Despite some of these challenges, we've been fortunate enough to keep the car running. While we've had to replace some parts, we've been able to find affordable solutions. Overall, we're grateful for the car and the memories we've made in it.Overall, I have to say that the engine and transmission haven't given us much trouble yet. However, the interior and feature quality is quite disappointing. It's a shame to say that I won't be buying American cars anymore.

I've only had the car for a few weeks since I bought it used with 40K miles. It's a GM Certified used car and I must say, the power and highway ride are great. All the features are amazing too. However, I have noticed a few quality issues. The driver's seat isn't as comfortable as I would like it to be and there are some annoying noises coming from the dash and glovebox when driving on less than smooth roads. The seat also squeaks and moves around when making turns, which I had the dealer look at but unfortunately, they were unable to fix it. Additionally, there is an annoying glare on the windshield from the top of the dash and defroster vent. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase but these issues are a bit frustrating.

This is an excellent car to drive. However, I have had several issues with its quality. The glove console door has been replaced three times due to cheap plastic latches breaking, and the outside door handle also broke. Additionally, the compressor on the shock system went berserk, and the door ajar warning goes off at will. Although I like the car, I am becoming irritated at the lack of response from GM regarding these electrical problems.

The power windows have been a bit of a hassle for me. I've had to replace all of the regulators at least once, and the driver's side had to be replaced twice. It's a shame when such a nice car has issues like this, but overall, the rest of the car couldn't have been better.
