2007 Bmw Z4 problems
The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants.
The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
BMW Z1 (E30 based; 1989–1991)
The BMW Z1 is a two-seat roadster developed by BMW and was produced from March 1989 to June 1991. It was based on the E30 3 Series platform. The Z1 featured unusual doors which, instead of opening outward or upward, dropped into the door sills and had body panels which could easily be removed and replaced; the car could be driven with all its body panels removed for weight reduction and increased performance. Only 8,000 examples of the Z1 were produced.

Common 2007 Bmw Z4 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the BMW Z4 2007, several common problems have been reported:
- Steering Issues: Owners have experienced a clunk or jolt from the steering wheel when applying brakes. This issue can be attributed to a faulty front control arm bracket bushing, leading to a cracking noise when driving in reverse. The cost of replacing this part ranges from $30 to $80, excluding labor costs.
- Engine Overheating: Some 2003-2005 and 2008 Z4 models have encountered engine overheating due to an engine coolant leak from the expansion tank. Owners have had to replace parts like upper and lower hoses, costing around $700. If left unaddressed, severe engine damage may occur, necessitating more expensive repairs.
- Defective Roof Mechanism: Many owners of the 2008 Z4 redesign have reported issues with a defective roof mechanism that retracts into a separate chamber, causing the roof motor to develop rust. Replacing the roof mechanism multiple times has not resolved the problem for some owners.
- Malfunctioning Convertible Top: A common problem reported in the 2003 BMW Z4 is a malfunctioning convertible top. Owners have complained that the top moved sluggishly before becoming inoperable. Replacing the motor and hydraulic system multiple times has not always fixed the issue.
These issues highlight some of the challenges faced by owners of the BMW Z4 2007 model, ranging from steering and engine problems to roof and convertible top malfunctions. Addressing these concerns promptly is crucial to maintaining the drivability and performance of the vehicle.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-07-11
- VIN: 4USBU33557L
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT QUIT WORKING WHEN IGNITION WAS TURNED ON. HEADLIGHT WAS WORKING FINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. BLOWN LIGHT INDICATOR ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER APPEARED. WHEN CHANGING OUT THE LIGHT I DISCOVERED ALL THE WIRES INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ENCLOSURE WERE DAMAGED DUE TO HEAT. ALL OF THE WIRES INSULATION WAS DRY ROTTED , SECTIONS OF THE INSULATION BROKEN OFF OF THE WIRES AND SHORTED OUT TOGETHER. I HAVE MANY YEARS OF VEHICLE WIRING TROUBLESHOOTING AND DESIGN. THE WIRES IN THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE JACKET RATING FOR THE HEADLIGHT LOCATION WHERE THEY WERE INSTALLED BY BMW. I BELIEVE THE HEAT FROM THE HEADLIGHTS DRIED OUT AND MADE THE WIRE JACKET BRITTLE. AFTER INVESTIGATION OF THE LEFT HEADLIGHT HOUSING BOTH HEADLIGHTS REQUIRE THE INTERNAL HARNESS OF EACH HEADLIGHT TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HEAT AND DRY ROT. THE SHORTING OF THE WIRES ONLY BLEW MY HEADLIGHT BULB AND NOT THE FUSE IN THE SYSTEM. THIS COULD BE THE REASON FOR THE OTHER PERSONS COMPLAINED ABOUT THEIR HEADLIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. IF LEFT UNCHECKED THIS COULD CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS IN THE CARS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND BE DANGEROUS IF THE LIGHTS SHORTED OUT DURING A NIGHT DRIVE.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-09-08
- VIN: 4USBU53577L
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: BMW Z4 2007 - STEERING WHEEL PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. WHEN CORRECTED PULLS HARD TO THE LEFT AND VICE-VERSA. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN 5 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR TO 3 DIFFERENT CERTIFIED MECHANICS THINKING IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ALIGNMENT BUT THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY A PRIVATE CERTIFIED MECHANIC THAT THIS IS LIKELY DUE TO A STEERING COLUMN DEFECT, FOR WHICH THE 2003-2005 BMW Z4'S WERE RECALLED. THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT ANY SPEED OVER 40 MPH. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP COMPLETED ANOTHER ALIGNMENT LAST WEEK, IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE STEERING PROBLEM AND CLAIMS THAT THE VEHICLE IS OK. I AM NOW DEALING WITH CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT BMW-USA BUT NO ACTION FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THIS FACTORY DEFECT WILL BE CONSIDERED UNTIL THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM AND QUOTES THE REPAIR. I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE AND AT HIS POINT THE IT SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS ON THE ROAD.

- Summary: A TRACTOR TRAILER HIT MY CAR, A BMW Z4 CONVERTIBLE, CT LICENSE PLATE, IN THE REAR LEFT, AS I WAS MOVING SLOWLY WITH TRAFFIC JUST BEFORE THE OVERPASS, RIGHT BEFORE I HIT THE TAPPANZEE BRIDGE AS I WAS HEADING TO NJ ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST, 2014, SOMETIME BETWEEN 11:50-1230PM. I BELIEVE IT WAS CLOSE OR ABOUT 12:20PM.MY HEAD SLAMMED VIOLENTLY AGAINST THE TOP OF THE WHEEL FROM THE IMPACT.I LOOKED BACK AFTER BEING HIT AND THE DRIVER AGREED TO PULL OVER WHEN THERE WAS ROOM FOR HIM AFTER GOING OVER THE BRIDGE TO EXCHANGE INSURANCE INFORMATION. I WROTE DOWN HIS LICENSE PLATE , IT WAS TENNESSEE U514217.I BELIEVE THE # OF THE TRUCK WAS 5318. THE DRIVER WAS A WHITE MALE, ABOUT 40-45YEAR OF AGE.AFTER I SPED IN FRONT, I PULLED OVER JUST OVER THE BRIDGE TO THE RIGHT WHERE CONSTRUCTION WAS TAKING PLACE AND I WAITED FOR THE TRUCK TO PULL IN BEHIND ME. THE TRUCKER PULLED UP TO THE LEFT OF MY CAR WHILE HE WAS STILL IN THE FIRST LANE, AND HE WAS MOVING AT A SNAIL'S PACE; HIS WINDOW WAS ROLLED DOWN AND HE STARED ME IN THE FACE, CURLED HIS RIGHT HAND INTO A FIST, PUT IT UP TO HIS NECK, RAISED HIS RIGHT THUMB, AND DRAGGED HIS RIGHT HAND ACROSS HIS NECK AS IF TO SAY HE'D CUT MY THROAT. HE THEN YELLED, "I GOT SOMEWHERE TO BE! DO YOU WANT ME TO DRIVE BACK UP HERE AFTER WE EXCHANGE PERSONAL INFORMATION, COME TO WHERE YOU LIVE, AND CUT YOUR THROAT!" HE HAD DRIVEN PAST ME.I HESITATED. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. , I GOT A CAT SCAN AND HAD MY HEAD WOUND LOOKED AT, AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SEVERE BRUISE TO THE HEAD AND RECEIVED TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY I WAS FEELING FROM THE ACCIDENT AND THE HIT AND RUN THREAT. A MONTH HAS PASSED AND I AM STILL FEELING ANXIETY OVER THIS; NOT TO MENTION MY CAR HAS BEEN DAMAGED.I AM LOOKING TO FIND THE DRIVER WHO HIT MY CAR AND CAUSED ME THE WOUND AND CONSTANT ANXIETY I NOW SUFFER. *TR

- VIN: 4USBU53537L
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: LOW BATTERY SITUATION OVER THE WINTER CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLIP INTO "TRANSPORT MODE" WHERE THE AC, DEFROSTER, AND FAN SPEED WILL NOT WORK. THIS CREATES A HAZARDOUS VISIBILITY SITUATION DUE TO THE DEFROSTER NOT WORKING. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THE TRANSPORT MODE IS SUPPOSED TO BE DISABLED WHEN THE CAR IS DELIVERED TO THE US BUT SOME DEALERS MISTAKENLY TURN IT OFF RATHER THAN DISABLE IT. TO DISABLE IT YOU MUST RETURN IT TO THE DEALER AND PAY FOR A HIGH SERVICE VISIT FOR A FEW MOMENTS OF PROGRAMMING. *TR

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-10-13
- VIN: 4USBU535X7L
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I'VE LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING IN GRAVE CIRCUMSTANCES AND THE WHEEL STICKS, WHERE IT REACHES A POINT WHERE I CANNOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHATSOEVER. THE VEHICLE BARELY HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING 30MPH LAST FALL, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STICK AND I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO APPLY A GREAT DEAL OF FORCE TO GET THE STEERING TO RESPOND. THERE IS A CONTINOUS CLICKING, ALMOST LIKE A "CLUNK" SOUND, FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE STEERING SIMPLY DOES NOT RESPOND WELL AND I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THE LOCAL BMW DEALER SAYS THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WILL COST ME OVER $3,000. I PARKED THE CAR FOR WINTER AND RECENTLY PULLED IT BACK OUT AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST. *TR
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-09-04
- VIN: 4USBU33567L
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL TENDS TO STICK, FORCE IS NEEDED TO STEER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT OR TO EVEN KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT. ONCE YOU START TURNING IT SEEMS TO FEEL NORMAL UNTIL YOU START TO MOVE THE WHEEL BACK TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION, THEN YOU REALIZE THE WHEEL IS NOW STUCK IN THIS POSITION. IT USUALLY TAKES QUITE A TUG TO GET IT MOVING AGAIN! IT APPEARS TO BE GETTING MORE EXTREME AND REQUIRING MORE FORCE TO MOVE THE WHEEL. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 1/2 YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT IT STEERED A LITTLE DIFFERENT, I JUST FIGURED IT WAS A BMW THING AND IT BEING A SMALLER CAR THAT WAS CAUSING IT TO HANDLE THIS WAY!! I DON'T THINK THAT ANY MORE! *TR

When the worst thing you can say is that the cupholders need to be redesigned, you're definitely on to something. This car is a head-turning, sleek machine with incredible control and power. It's great fun to drive!
-
The car performs as expected with great acceleration, exhaust note, and handling. Although, when driven with the top up on not-so-perfect days, there may be a few rattles in the roof and seats. It may not be as fast as a Vette off the line, but the exceptionally comfortable seats, awesome THX stereo, and nimble handling make it all worth it in the end. However, if you plan to do most of your driving with the top up or in the winter months, it may not be the best option for you!
-
This car is an absolute blast to drive! No matter where you live, heated seats are a must-have. The feeling of driving with the top down is unbeatable. I highly recommend getting the M seats, as well as the premium and sport packages. The navigation system is top-notch and seamlessly integrates with the radio and phone. With just a double click of the remote, you can put the top down before even entering the car! The sport button is amazing and provides excellent driving stability control. The extended leather is also a great addition. If you're looking for an automatic transmission, I recommend the 3.0si with 265 HP - it's plenty powerful. However, if you prefer a manual transmission and want 355 HP, go for the M. This car is just so much fun to drive - it's fast, rides great, and turns heads wherever you go!
-
If you're considering a 2007 Z-4 for your Florida home, I would recommend avoiding the bigger engine version as it comes only with the sport suspension which can be a bit stiff. It's important to test drive on less than perfect roads to get a good feel for the handling suspension, which I found to be terrific even without the sport suspension. The paddle shifters are a nice touch and the mileage is decent, although it does require 91 octane for max performance. I personally gas up every 1/2 tank full, rotating between 93 premium and 87 regular, and get around 24-25 mpg mixed city and country driving. The exterior finish is exceptional and I would highly recommend switching out the run-flat tires for a new set upon CPO purchase. I found the Michelin Pilot Sport A-S 3 to be a great replacement option in the standard size of 225/45/17. They have less road noise and better handling, and I haven't experienced any of the road wobbling characteristic of many run-flats in the 15,000 miles since switching them out. It's worth noting that car maintenance costs after the warranty can be rather expensive for this model, both in terms of parts and labor. Overall, it's a shame that BMW abandoned the Z line effective with the 2018 model year.

Hi there! If you're looking for a fun car to enjoy on the weekends, the 2007 Z4 is a great option! It has a sleek design and handles really well. However, if you're looking for a car to use for daily travel, it might not be the best choice. The wind noise on the highway and bumpy ride can be a bit uncomfortable. Personally, I found the 5-speed on our 2003 Z4 to be smoother and quicker, and the ride was not as harsh. That being said, the 2007 Z4 is still a great car to have fun in! The 6-speed shifting can take some getting used to, but it's all part of the experience. Thanks for considering it!

This review highlights some areas of improvement for the car. The paint is fragile and scratches easily, which is difficult to fix due to the plastic material. The beeper can be annoying as it does not stop for a minute and there are no chimes. The seat belt cannot be adjusted and can irritate the neck. The runflat tires are sensitive and require added air twice in 4 months. The 6-speed manual does not shift smoothly. The car does not hold its value and has depreciated $13K in less than 4 months. The steering requires the driver to be more active than necessary. The ride quality on rough roads is not up to par and every imperfection can be felt. The car can be noisy with the roof up and rattles. While the car has some areas of improvement, it is still a BMW and has high standards. The writer paid $47K+ for a new BMW and expects the best.

Although the car is a head turner, I am looking forward to the end of my lease and returning it to the dealership. The German suspension is wonderful for flawless German roads, but unfortunately, it is too stiff for flawed American roads, making the ride uncomfortable. The seats are poorly padded and after a half hour in the car, I am ready to get out. I took it from Washington DC to New York and by the time I got to my destination, I was ready to leave it on the side of the road. I now only use it because it is small and easy to park.

I recently leased a 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si to use as a daily driver, but quickly realized that this car is better suited for weekend adventures! While the ride can be a bit bumpy on older roads and the interior is a bit cramped, the handling, transmission, and power are all top-notch. It's an absolute blast to drive in the cool morning air or for a romantic evening cruise, but it's not meant to replace a sedan. Despite this, I'm still excited to upgrade to the 2008 535i!

Looking to rent a car for your holiday in Phoenix? Consider the 2007 Z4! I recently drove it from Phoenix to Page via the Grand Canyon and I have to say, the acceleration is fantastic. You can easily reach speeds of 80 or even 100mph without even noticing! However, I did find the steering to be a bit tight, especially on uneven roads. Additionally, the circulation design could use some improvement when the top is down. During my drive down the Grand Canyon, wind came into the cabin from the gap between the window and the trunk top, resulting in some loud wind noise. Despite these minor issues, the Z4 is a beautiful looking roadster that is definitely worth considering for your next adventure!
