2015 Bmw X4 problems
The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. It is marketed as a sports activity coupé (SAC), the second model from BMW marketed as such after the X6, and features styling elements and the roofline of a traditional two-door coupé. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling.
First generation (F26; 2014)
The first-generation X4 was unveiled at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, followed by the 13th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition 2014, and at the 22nd Auto Mobil International Leipzig 2014. Early models included xDrive20i, xDrive28i, xDrive35i, xDrive20d, xDrive30d, and xDrive35d.
The M Performance M40i model was announced in 2015. It was officially revealed at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, and produces 265 kW (355 hp) and 465 N⋅m (343 lb⋅ft) from its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. It has a 0–100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4.7 seconds. It went on sale from February 2016.

Common 2015 Bmw X4 problems
Common Problems with the BMW X4 2015
- Check Engine Light with Code P30FF and Rattle from Engine
The most commonly reported problem with the 2015 BMW X4 is the Check Engine Light with Code P30FF and a rattle from the engine. The issue is caused by the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure, which can lead to misfires and a decrease in engine performance. The average repair cost for this problem ranges from $1,058 to $1,293.
- Drivetrain Issues
The 2015 BMW X4 has been reported to struggle with drivetrain issues, including unresponsive brakes, especially when trying to slow down at moderate speeds. This unresponsiveness has led to near-miss incidents in intersections. Additionally, the car exhibited violent shuddering, which can be unnerving and a safety risk. Some owners have reported instances of drivetrain malfunction warnings shortly after purchase. Even after servicing, the problems persisted, sometimes making the car undrivable.
- Timing Chain Lawsuit
The 2015 BMW X4, powered by N20 and N26 turbocharged engines, has been reported to experience failures of the primary and secondary timing chains. This issue led to a class action lawsuit, which highlights that these engines are susceptible to premature failures of both primary and secondary timing chains. The failure may result in power loss, violent collisions between the engine’s pistons and valves, poor engine performance, stalling, or even outright engine failure.
- Turbo Wastegate Issues
The petrol-engined X4 has issues with the turbo wastegate, which can become noisy, leading to the engine light coming on and the car eventually stopping. This issue can also cause the engine not to start and the satellite navigation system to malfunction.
- Diesel Particulate Filter Clogging
The diesel engines in the 2015 BMW X4 have reported troubles with the diesel particulate filter getting clogged. This issue can lead to decreased engine performance and increased emissions.
- Brakes
The brakes in the 2015 BMW X4 have been criticized for being underpowered for an SUV of this size. The brakes could stop a saloon car but aren’t powerful enough for an SUV of this size. Additionally, the steering feels very light, causing the car to swerve at speed, even in the heavier sports mode.
- Interior Quality
The interior of the 2015 BMW X4 has been criticized for being a mirror image of the tired-looking X3, with some models not having electric seats, which are standard on many cheaper cars.
- Fuel Consumption
The fuel consumption of the 2015 BMW X4 is nowhere near BMW's claim. No matter how sensibly the car is driven, it still manages a meagre 31.5 mpg compared to its claimed 54 mpg.
- Visibility
The 2015 BMW X4 has limited visibility from the driver’s seat in certain areas, so it is essential to check the extremities of the car for any scuffs or dents. The car might have been used in tight city centre car parks, on urban rat runs and motorways, so check the front of the car for stone chips and the alloy wheels for any kerb damage.

When you purchase a new car, you expect it to be in perfect condition. I understand that there may be some issues here and there, but having to take the car in for repairs five times in just a six-month period is frustrating. It's important to note that the car was brand new with only 5,300 miles on it at that point. The battery discharge issue was resolved by simply resetting the system, and the left parking light issue was also fixed by resetting it. However, the headlight issue persisted and it was determined that the entire headlight needed to be replaced. Additionally, the front center air-vent had to be replaced. Despite all of these issues, the car did not meet the requirements for the Lemon Law, and we were disappointed that the dealership could not replace the car. Now, there is an apparent recall for safety, which is concerning. Unfortunately, the service department at Mckenna BMW was not very helpful throughout this process. As returning customers who own an X5 (2014) and 320 (2014), we are disappointed and will not be returning customers.

The technology interface could use some improvement. It may be helpful to consider implementing a touch screen and updating the control system. Additionally, the transmission shifting control could be made more intuitive, especially in emergency situations. The voice control may also benefit from some updates.
