The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. It is marketed as a sports activity coupé (SAC), the second model from BMW marketed as such after the X6, and features styling elements and the roofline of a traditional two-door coupé. Early models included xDrive20i, xDrive28i, xDrive35i, xDrive20d, xDrive30d, and xDrive35d.
The M Performance M40i model was announced in 2015. It was officially revealed at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, and produces 265 kW (355 hp) and 465 N⋅m (343 lb⋅ft) from its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. It has a 0–100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4.7 seconds. It went on sale from February 2016.

- Summary: My daughter [XXX] had an oil change on 2-23-2024, and was told that fluid was leaking. In less than 2 weeks, the leakage had worsen. All the electrical components were flashing and the vehicle was cutting on and off. Eventually it stopped running. Her fiance, [XXX] , had the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop that specializes in European cars on 3-25-2024. She was quoted for a new engine, cost $12,500, which was about the same as what was owed. Since we couldn't afford the cost of a new engine, we did a voluntary surrender to the finance company, Foursight Capital. They sent us a notification for an Explanation of Calculation of Surplus or Deficiency. Had we been informed about the recall from the NHTSA failure to adequately remedied for a defective vehicle within a reasonable time, just maybe this problem would have not occurred. - Summary: Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to report a significant safety concern involving my 2022 BMW X4 M40i. The issue pertains to an anti-corroding substance inside the tailgate panel that has been leaking, causing damage to my vehicle's bumper and obstructing the view on my rear camera. This issue not only compromises the structural integrity of the vehicle but also poses a serious safety risk by obstructing the view from the rear camera, which is essential for safe reversing and parking. Despite taking my vehicle to Gainesville BMW for inspection, the problem remains unresolved. The Service Manager, Jose, initially acknowledged the issue but has since avoided taking appropriate action to rectify the situation. In addition, I have been in contact with Jerry from BMW Customer Relations, who has been unwilling to communicate via email as per my request. Instead, he insists on discussing the matter over the phone, which I find concerning given the importance of maintaining a documented communication trail for this serious issue. The ongoing leakage and damage to my vehicle not only compromise its functionality but also raise concerns about potential long-term safety risks. As such, I am seeking your assistance in addressing this matter to ensure that BMW takes the necessary steps to resolve this defect and prevent further safety hazards. - Summary: I own the car since brand new from dealership and never have incident. Couple weeks ago, started having issues with digital main instruments panel. Suddenly when I turn on the car in the morning the dash simply does not work. I got alert saying one the safety system is malfunctioning but not say what it was specifically. After 5 min the engine is on the main dash back to work normally, and all the alerts disappear. I have checked faulty codes and I see faulty code record to identify what would be. I would report as safety incident as the failure is Randon and sometimes happen when I park the car in the office or anytime and I have to drive with no panel instruments working back to home. I have taken the bar back to dealership for investigation and they want to charge me $180 USD just for diagnose as it's out of warranty. I also taken to independent shop but it's hard to diagnose as the vehicle is reporting no fault on their system. A car with low milage should not been happening such major failure and I'm frustrated with the risk of driving a car couple miles without knowing my speed or fuel level. Appreciate your support .

- Summary: After starting vehicle and putting it into drive, I received a Parking Brake Malfunction error message. The electronic parking brake was engaged and it could not be release allowing the vehicle to move. I attempted to reset the electronic parking brake following the dealerships recommendations. 1) remove and replace the fuses for the parking system (3 fuses) and 2) disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and re-connecting the battery in order to reset the computer. Neither of these methods worked, and there is no way to manually release the parking brake. Ultimately, the vehicle was towed to the local BMW dealership for service. They have not been able to diagnose or fix the issue. thankfully, the malfunction happened while pulling out of the garage, and not at speed on the interstate. That could have been disastrous. This appears to be a serious engineering flaw in BMW vehicles equipped with electronic parking brake systems.

Bad experience in the driver's seat and more bad in the passenger seat. I understand if the suspension is not performing in sport mode, but even in comfort mode the suspension is not even working 10%. Really frustrated and getting depressed. Why is it mentioned as comfort mode and not doing the intended job ? Why is the car being advertised and sold as it has Adaptive suspension ? really the car has suspension ? The car is wobbling / shaking and very rough even for very small bumps / uneven surfaces (the car is just falling into it). It gives a headache when driving on a speed breaker even at 5 MPH. I really feel like the car has no suspension. Mentioning and selling with comfort mode where it is not doing the intended job is definitely a defective and design flaw. I would not have purchased it if it does not has comfort mode. Its happening all the time and from 5 to 70 mile speed. Please help me on this.

I love my car! It's actually my third BMW and it drives wonderfully. It's a very fun car to drive and it handles great. Plus, it's not too bad on gas.

I love my X4! It looks fabulous and rides fantastic! The speed is ridiculous in sport mode! And as far as cargo, I have hauled everything I've needed to! So there's plenty of space! I have the red and get compliments daily!

The technology interface with the driver could use some improvement. It would be great if the car had a touch screen instead of the old school 'mouse'. In emergency situations, the transmission shifting control can be a bit dangerous as it requires pushing a button on the shift lever side to shift, which is not very intuitive. Additionally, the voice control could use some work.

I'm not a fan of the car, and I regret buying it. I take some responsibility for not researching enough beforehand. I was surprised to find out that the car had very few options, even after adding the M sport and premium packages. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with features like automatic high beams, cooled seats, and easy-exit. The brake pads are also quite soft, which results in dusty wheels after a car wash. The acceleration is not great either. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and I wouldn't buy this car again.
