2023 Bmw X3 problems
The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 5 Series platform. Now in its third generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles.
The first-generation X3 was designed by BMW in conjunction with Magna Steyr of Graz, Austria—who also manufactured all X3s under contract to BMW. BMW manufactured the second-generation X3 at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, United States. Starting with the third generation, BMW South Africa's Rosslyn plant began production of the X3, alongside the Spartanburg plant, after the facility underwent a major upgrade to prepare for the X3 production, replacing the long-running 3 Series production in the plant. About 76,000 units will be manufactured there annually.
The car was the first mid-size, premium SUV on the market. In 2008, BMW started competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (renamed GLC-Class since 2016), and numerous other SUVs in this segment. The X3 is smaller than the X5 and X6, and bigger than the X1 and the X2.
An all-electric variant is sold as the BMW iX3.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

- VIN: WBX57DP02PN
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: As I was driving today in the freeway my sunroof exploded. As far as I can tell, It was not caused by rocks or other cars, it just exploded putting my wife and I in a dangerous situation having to park on the side of the freeway. We first thought someone shot at us. We stopped the car and it took us a minute to feel safe to go out, trembling, to check car for gun fire. We looked the entire body while the freeway was full, even for a Sunday, and discovered nothing wrong. As we entered the car and closed our door, we heard the noise of shared glass, so we both left the car again to reinspect it putting our lives in danger as other drivers were passing by. We re-enter the car again and the same thing happened, left the car again to inspect the tires at this time, each time exposing our lives to the freeway traffic. Upon entering the car for the third time, heard freeway noise and thought window was probably opened. It was then that we realized our sunroof was probably broken, upon checking, we were shocked when saw hundreds of pieces of glass on top of our car. It was then that we realized we would have to clean the top of our car with the wind blowing glass everywhere, risking an eye injury, and we were worried another car would be hit with the glass or even worse than that, it would be someone riding a motorcycle which is common on Sunday afternoons and get blind from glass flying from our car to their face. So we spent a while cleaning most of the glass to be able to drive off the freeway, again exposing our lives. During our cleaning of the glass, we put it inside of our car on the floor by the back seats so we would not leave that on the freeway exposing other people to get hurt. During this cleaning time, my wife cut her hand with glass that entered her skin. Not understanding why the accident happened, I’ve decided to research online, only to find that BMW’s x3 having problems with sunroof exploding since 2018, but no recalls! Very upsetting! My car is 2023.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-21
- VIN: 5UX83DP05P9
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The 2023 BMW X3 is equipped with automatic high beams that includes an anti-dazzle feature. The anti-dazzle/non-glare (matrix) feature have been available on non US Spec vehicles since 2013 but US legislation did not allow this feature to enabled in the United States. In the meantime legislation has changed however my BMW has been decoded by the manufacturer so that my car does not have that feature and they cite legislation as the issue. My car is capable of the feature but bmw is refusing to enable it thus reducing night time visibility and safety for myself and others on the road. I’m also reading there are people and shops who will enable the feature but with only an 80% solution which means there’s a potential to have a lot of cars on the road that are not correctly providing anti-glare to other vehicles. I think BMW should stop decoding (removing) this feature and recall all cars that have been decoded to have the feature re-enabled. This is 100% a safety issue.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-25
- VIN: 5YM13EC02P9
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Rear differential bolt failure: Failure has not happened yet, but will happen eventually with enough mileage as seen with many other BMW X3M vehicles. Problem is with the rear differential bolt. The bolt is prone to shearing or snapping, noises may be heard from differential up until failure occurs at some point. Once this occurs it can wreak havoc on the differential and associated parts and cause thousands of dollars worth of damage if you are outside of the warranty period. The bolt needs to be stronger or something needs to be added to the bolt area to lessen the movement of the differential under power. If bolt is to snap on the road this will cause safety issues as you will lose power and potentially break many things on vehicle that could cause road debris and also require you to pull over immediately. Problem can't be reproduced as it's a single bolt that can fail at any time. No inspections have taken place, no warning lights or problems before hand. However, some may hear noises in the rear differential under power.
STRUCTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-20
- VIN: 5UX83DP09P9
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have noticed that my vehicle seems to be lagging behind when driving at the poster speed limit. Other vehicles were catching up rapidly and stacking up behind me. I compared the indicated vehicle speed with two separate GPS devices and found the indicated speed was slower the the GPS indicated speed. At highway speed, 75 mph as indicated on the speedometer, the vehicle is traveling at 70 to 71 mph as reported be the GPS. I confirmed this by pacing another on vehicle with an accurate speedometer. I took my vehicle (2023 BMW X3 with 2218 miles on it) to the dealer for warranty service to address the issue for inaccurate speed reading on the speedometer. They provided me with a BMW service information bulletin (#B26 06 12 SI dated April 2012) which indicated that most speedometers have a tolerance of approximately 10% plus 2.5 mph, being necessary to compensate for negative tolerances in tire diameter and other outside factors. If a vehicle speedometer reads within that tolerance, no repairs should be attempted. This means that a vehicle traveling at highway speeds (75mph) as indicated on the vehicle’s speedometer, the vehicle could be actually traveling at 65 mph. While traveling at 65 mph in a 75 mph speed zone in legal, it is not really safe and leads to unsafe traffic slow downs and possibly road rage incidents. I questioned the impact of the “speed advance” on the total actual mileage the odometer, along with the computed MPG performance of the vehicle. Interesting enough, the service bulletin notes that the mileage does not incorporate any “advance tolerances” yet it obtains its information from the same source as the speedometer. A 10% “speed advance” (as identified) is unrealistic, unsafe, and unnecessary. Additionally, as related to tire diameter, as a tire wears and thus has a reduces circumference indicate speed becomes higher than actual speed, thus negating the need for the speedometer advance. I want an accurate speed reading while driving.

The vehicle is in great condition, although it does not come equipped with a digital key. The trunk space is slightly smaller than my 2005 RAV4, but it appears larger in most YouTube videos. The power is adequate, and the seating is comfortable with sensatech. Opting for the M Sport package is highly recommended as it gives the vehicle a muscular look. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. UPDATE: The corner handling is superb, and the ride is smooth. The twin-turbo inline 4 provides enough power for passing and quick acceleration. The safety software works as designed, including frontal collision warning, rear pedestrian crossing, and blind spot warning. The only drawback is the lack of IOS mirroring and the unavailability of a black grille when ordering the car.

The BMW X3 SUV is perfect for a small family, with plenty of space and sporty handling.

You have a BMW X3? That's fantastic! It sounds like you're really enjoying it. I'm glad to hear that it's both luxurious and fuel-efficient. It's great that you find it smooth and powerful too. It seems like you have no complaints about it, which is wonderful to hear.

I wouldn't recommend keeping this car for a long time. Unfortunately, every feature is tied into the infotainment system, including car functions such as transmission mapping, seat position, seat heat, and climate controls. The car has already been in the shop three times in as many months. For example, the cruise control stopped working when the perimeter sensor failed, and the sound went out five or six times whenever the Sirius customer agreement came up. This car may become a nightmare when the electronics start failing as it ages. However, I must say that I am amused when my 2007 Kia Sedona mule with 250000km drops off the 3000km BMW for repair (and the new 2014 A4 when the transmission failed, and the 2015 C300 when the electric steering failed). On the bright side, the car handles bumps really well, which is great considering the state of our roads, which have gotten much worse after Covid. I did notice that there is a lot of exterior noise coming through the door windows and seals, but overall, the car is still a good option.

Only two weeks with this car. What a blast! The ambient lighting makes me feel like I'm under 60 years old. The m sport package is a nice addition and the wheels look amazing. The instrument panel is easily readable, even with the standard panel. I ordered this car and it was delivered exactly how I wanted it in just 20 days. Thank you, Spartanburg! I am very pleased.

We have owned 5 BMW vehicles in the past 7 years. Unfortunately, we have experienced issues with the alignment of each vehicle, which has resulted in the need to replace tires frequently. Even with local driving, we have had to replace tires on each vehicle before they reach 29,000 miles, which is less than two years old. This is in contrast to other vehicles we have owned, where tires have lasted up to 50,000 miles. We believe that the electronic alignment controls on BMW cars may be contributing to this issue. As someone who has owned 42 cars in my life, we have decided not to purchase another BMW. We hope that BMW will address this issue in the future.

Let me give you a quick rundown for any potential buyers. The handling is mediocre and the braking is slow, but the exterior looks good. However, it's worth noting that the interior isn't particularly luxurious.

I recently took delivery of a new 2023 BMW x3 m40i to replace my 2019 version. I must say that the new car is quieter and more refined than the '19. The way it runs and drives is fantastic as always. However, I do have a problem with the interior. No matter what color you order, it will be mostly black. While I understand the need to balance costs, it's disappointing to see this in a car that costs over 60k. Despite this, I still rate the car 3 stars, but it would have been a 5 if the interior had more color options.

It seems like the trunk gaskets were designed incorrectly, causing rainwater to leak inside the car. This can be quite frustrating! Additionally, it appears that the car is not functioning properly. Let's see if we can find a solution to these issues.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the car I've been driving for the past 2.5 weeks. While there were some areas that could use improvement, such as the ride quality and steering, I did find some positives as well. The fuel efficiency was impressive for a performance car, and the built quality felt very premium. However, I did experience some discomfort with the seats after driving for an hour. Overall, it was an interesting experience and I'm looking forward to returning the car soon. Thank you for listening!
