2014 Bmw Activehybrid 7 problems
The BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid is a concept car developed by BMW and presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008. It is BMW's first mild hybrid and second hybrid concept vehicle after the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid, BMWs first full hybrid revealed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Both models will be ready for mass production at the end of 2009.
Specifications
The BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid combines an engine based on the High Precision Injection V8 Twin Turbo unit used in the BMW 750i (where it delivers 300 kW/407 hp) with an electric motor that is only designed to provide support to the internal combustion engine. The electric motor is integrated between transmission and engine and provides 15 kW of power and 210 Nm of torque. In this so-called mild hybrid configuration, the electric motor increases the potential of the eight-cylinder petrol engine while using Brake Energy Regeneration – mostly in urban traffic – to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Production
In August 2009 BMW announced the production version of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 (F04), together with BMW ActiveHybrid X6. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 features a 0.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Common 2014 Bmw Activehybrid 7 problems
The BMW ActiveHybrid 7, introduced in 2014, is a luxury hybrid vehicle that combines a twin turbo 3.0-litre petrol straight six engine with an electric motor. This setup allows the car to run on silent electric-only power at low speeds, providing a more driver-focused experience than other full-sized luxury saloons. However, there have been some reported issues with this model.
- Reduced Boot Space: Due to the battery pack required for the ActiveHybrid system, the boot space in the ActiveHybrid 7 is reduced compared to the standard 7 Series model. This can be a significant inconvenience for owners who frequently transport large items.
- Reliability Concerns: While BMW is known for its excellent reliability, the ActiveHybrid 7 model, like any complex hybrid system, may have reliability issues. Consumer Reports expects the 2024 7 Series to have about average reliability compared to other new cars, but this prediction is based on the BMW brand scores, not specifically on the ActiveHybrid 7 model.
- Limited Sample Size for Reliability Data: Due to the relatively small number of ActiveHybrid 7 models sold in Europe, there may not be a large enough sample size to provide reliable reliability data for this specific model. This can make it difficult for potential buyers to assess the long-term reliability of the car.
- Availability of "BMW Connected Drive" App: The ActiveHybrid 7 model may require the "Mobile Application Preparation" option to enable the "BMW Connected Drive" app for the iPhone. If the car doesn't have this feature, BMW will not retrofit it, leaving owners with no option but to have a "fix" done independently.
In summary, while the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 offers a unique driving experience, potential buyers should be aware of the potential issues with the ActiveHybrid system, reduced boot space, reliability concerns, limited sample size for reliability data, and the availability of the "BMW Connected Drive" app. It is recommended to thoroughly research the car and consider these factors before making a purchase decision.

Jun 19, 2016 ... Do not even think about buying this without a warranty. Nice car but many known issues.
Benny Kilback 2024-05-07
It seems that the warranty for BMW's hybrid battery is not as good as those offered by Toyota and Hyundai, which is disappointing considering the higher price point of BMW cars. It would be great to see BMW improve their warranty to match the quality of their vehicles.
