2013 Bmw 640i problems
The third generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the BMW F12 (two-door convertible version), BMW F13 (two-door coupé version) BMW F06 (four-door "Gran Coupé" version) executive-sized grand tourers. The F12/F13/F06 generation was produced from 2011 to 2018 and is often collectively referred to as the F12.
The F12 shares a platform and many features with the F10 5 Series and F01 7 Series, with the two-door F12/13 models having a shorter wheelbase than the F10, while the four-door F06's wheelbase matches the F10's.
The M6 versions are powered by the S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It is the first M6 model to use a turbocharged engine.
Production of the F12 generation ended, first with the Coupé in February 2017, then the convertible in February 2018, and finally Gran Coupé models which were discontinued in September 2018. The successor to the F12, the BMW 8 Series (G15), began production in June 2018. The 6 Series nameplate was re-used for the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (G32) which is still executive-sized being based upon the contemporary 5 Series (G30) and has features of a four-door coupé like frameless doors and sloping rear roofline; however unlike the F06 Gran Coupé which is a sedan the G32 Gran Turismo is a 5-door liftback succeeding the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo (F07).

- Airbag system fault: Some owners have reported airbag system faults, which were repaired before purchase in some cases. This issue can be related to the safety of the vehicle and may require a repair or replacement of the airbag system.

- Water pump electrical short circuit: This issue affects some 6 Series models made between 21 December 2010 and 2 September 2011 and could lead to an under bonnet fire. A BMW dealer can confirm if the car is affected and arrange to have the pump replaced.
- Front seats: Both front seats of a small number of examples built between 7th and 18th July 2017 could have a manufacturing issue where a bolt might not have been tightened correctly and may work loose. If the car is affected, a technician at a BMW dealer will need to inspect the car and replace the bolt.
- Crankshaft sensor: A fault with the crankshaft sensor on 6 Series manufactured from 17 May 2018 to 5 June 2018 could affect how the engine runs. Speak to a BMW dealer for further information, because a new sensor will need to be fitted to examples affected by this recall.
- Crankcase bearing bushing: Some 6 Series models made from 24 September 2018 and 24 January 2019 have a crankcase bearing bushing that might not have been pressed into the engine correctly. Cars that are involved will actually need to have a new engine fitted, so speak to a BMW dealer for further information.
It is important to note that the BMW 6 Series managed to achieve a pretty high score of 94.9% according to the latest survey, with BMW as a brand ranked 9th out of 31 car brands featured. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-09-27
- VIN: WBA6A0C53DD
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: ON 9/27/19 I LEFT THE GAS STATION WITH FULL TANK OF GAS AND STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A BUSY ROAD IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE LIGHT CHANGED GREEN MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. I PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED OUT OF THE ROAD. A LIGHT CAME ON "AUTO START/STOP DISENGAGED." EVERYTHING ELSE POWERED (WINDOWS, RADIO, REAR SHADES, SCREEN, PHONE AND NAVIGATION, ETC.) AND WORKED SO THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED 1 HOUR LATER, THE CAR WOULDN'T START, LOCKED UP COMPLETELY AND THE GEAR WOULDN'T SHIFT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY CAR FROM 9/27-10/10/19. DIAGNOSED CAUSE: BATTERY OLD/WORN, REAR BRAKES AND OIL LEAKING. THE CAR WAS SERVICED. ON 10/13/19 THREE DAYS LATER MY CAR CUT OFF AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, LOCKED UP IMMEDIATELY AND WOULD NOT START JUST AS BEFORE. THIS TIME THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND COULD NOT BE PUSHED OUT OF THE ROAD. I BLOCKED TRAFFIC AND HAD TO WAIT ONE HOUR AGAIN FOR ANOTHER TOW TRUCK TO TOW MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. JUST LIKE BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE WORKED (A/C, WINDOWS, LIGHTS, RADIO, BLINKERS, POWER SEATS, DISPLAY PANEL, ETC.), SO ONCE AGAIN IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. AGAIN A SAFETY HAZARD WAS CREATED WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ME. IT WAS DARK, I WAS ALONE AND STOOD OUTSIDE THE CAR TO WAVE VEHICLES TO GO AROUND PUTTING MY PERSONAL SAFETY IN JEOPARDY. ON 10/22/19 I HAD TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND ASK FOR AN UPDATE ON MY CAR BECAUSE I RECEIVED NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL. THE DIAGNOSED CAUSE: FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT AND THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL UNIT: EKPS FAILED BY EXCESSIVE AMPERAGE DRAW FROM THE FAILED FUEL PUMP. SAME PROBLEM, BUT TO REPAIR THIS TIME THE COST IS OVER $1500.
SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

- VIN: WBA6A0C53DD
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 BMW 640I. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT AUTO ECONO RESTART AND HAD TO BE PUSHED OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TOM BUSH BMW JACKSONVILLE (9875 ATLANTIC BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32225, (904) 371-4790) WHERE THE BATTERY AND BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE OIL FILTER GASKET WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DAYS LATER. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS AN INTAKE FUEL FAILURE CAUSED BY UNDER VOLTAGE AND THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL UNIT FAILED FROM INSUFFICIENT AMP ELECTRICAL POWER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL COVERAGE; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER $3,600 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,519.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-10-04

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-09-30
- VIN: WBALW3C51DC
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: AFTER WORK (~ 5:30 PM, PST) WHILE DRIVING, I FLIPPED MY SUN VISOR TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM THE SUN. AS THE VISOR WAS BEING FLIPPED, THE VISOR FELL OUT OF ITS HINGE AND LOST ALL VISIBILITY. LOST ALL VISIBILITY. PANICKED AND SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS. ALMOST REAR ENDED AS I COULD HEAR THE CAR SLAMMING ON THE BREAKS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, THIS COULD'VE BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE. THE VISOR WAS PROPPED BACK INTO ITS SPACE BUT POPS OUT VERY EASILY. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE WAY THE VISOR IS BEING SECURED IN THE HINGE. I AM WORRIED THAT ALL BMW SHARING IN THIS DESIGN MAY POTENTIALLY EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE WHILE DRIVING. I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE PRETTY NIMBLE AND REACTIVE. I'M GENUINELY WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVES WITH THIS ISSUE.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

THE CAR LOST POWER AND I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED AND NEARLY CAUSED A MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, OPENED THE HOOD AND LOOKED INSIDE. NOTHING SEEMED AMISS. RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE YELLOW ALERT WAS GONE. PROCEEDED TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATED AGAIN AND AGAIN THE ALERT POPPED UP AND I LOST POWER AND AGAIN NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION THAT SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING WITH HIGH FREQUENCY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION MAY SAVE LIVES.
