The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972, succeeding the New Class Sedans, and currently in its eight generation.

The 5 Series was initially available as a sedan, with a wagon/estate body style (marketed as "Touring") added in 1991 and a 5-door fastback configuration (marketed as "Gran Turismo") available from 2009 to 2017. Each successive generation carries a distinct internal E- designation.

The first generation of 5 Series was powered by naturally aspirated four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines. Following generations have been powered by four-cylinder, six-cylinder, V8 and V10 engines that are either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Since 1982, diesel engines have been included in the 5 Series range.

The 5 Series is BMW's second-best-selling model after the 3 Series. On 29 January 2008, the 5 millionth 5 Series was manufactured, a 530d sedan in Carbon Black Metallic.

BMW's three-digit model naming convention began with the first 5 Series, thus the 5 Series was BMW's first model line to use "Series" in the name.

Since the E28, all generations of 5 Series have included an "M" model, called the BMW M5.

Common 2010 Bmw 535xi problems

The BMW 535xi 2010 is a luxury sedan that has been praised for its performance and design. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by owners of this car:

  1. VANOS Timing Assembly Failure

The VANOS timing assembly is a critical component of the BMW 535xi 2010's engine, responsible for controlling the timing of the intake and exhaust valves. According to some owners, the VANOS assembly can fail, causing a range of problems, including damage to the timing chain, valves, and engine head. This issue is particularly common in the M54 engine, which was used in the 535xi 2010. Replacing or rebuilding the VANOS timing assembly is recommended to prevent further damage to the engine.

  1. Faulty Fuel Door

Some owners of the BMW 535xi 2010 have reported issues with the fuel door, which can fail to open or close properly. This issue is caused by a worn-down spring that is responsible for opening the fuel door. Fortunately, this is a relatively inexpensive and easy DIY job, requiring only a screwdriver to replace the spring and boot

  1. Engine Warning Light

An engine warning light may appear on the dashboard of the BMW 535xi 2010, indicating a problem with the engine. This issue can be caused by water ingress in the engine control unit (ECU), which is located in the boot of the car. To prevent this issue, some owners recommend relocating the ECU to a higher area to avoid water damage. Additionally, failed seals or cracks in the corners of the windscreen can cause wind noise, which should be checked during a test drive

  1. Front Thrust Rod Bushings Failure

The front thrust rod bushings are a common point of failure in the BMW 535xi 2010. These bushings are responsible for absorbing the impact of the car's suspension, and when they fail, they can cause a range of problems, including a knocking or clunking noise from the front of the car. Replacing the bushings is recommended to prevent further damage to the suspension.

  1. Outside Mirror May Fold Out Too Far

Some owners of the BMW 535xi 2010 have reported that the outside mirror may fold out too far, causing it to hit objects or other cars. This issue can be caused by a faulty mirror motor or wiring, and it is recommended to have the mirror inspected and repaired by a professional.

  1. Check Engine Light with Code P30FF and Rattle from Engine

A check engine light with code P30FF and a rattle from the engine can indicate a problem with the high-pressure fuel pump. This issue can cause a loss of power and reduced fuel efficiency, and it is recommended to have the pump inspected and replaced if necessary.

In conclusion, while the BMW 535xi 2010 is a high-performance luxury sedan, it is not without its common problems. Owners of this car should be aware of these issues and take steps to prevent or repair them as necessary. Regular maintenance and inspections can help to ensure that the car remains in good condition and continues to provide reliable performance.
