Common 2019 Audi Sq5 problems

The 2019 Audi Q5 is a compact luxury SUV that has been praised for its excellent standard all-wheel drive system and high-quality materials. However, some common problems have been reported by owners, which are detailed below.

  • Excessive noise from the brakes: This is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Q5 owners, with issues starting around 10,000 miles. Brake noise is usually a sign that the pads have worn down and need to be replaced. The cost of replacing brake pads can vary depending on local labor rates, but it typically ranges from $300.
  • Water on the floor of the cabin: Some Q5 owners have reported water on the floor of the vehicle, especially within the first 5,000 miles. This issue is often caused by a loose sunroof drain line, which allows water to dump out onto the floor. Repairing the sunroof drain line is usually done under warranty when the SUVs is new, but out of warranty it’s about a $75 fix.
  • Check engine lights: Some 2019 Q5 owners have reported check engine lights at around 40,000 miles. There are many reasons a check engine light may turn on, so using an OBD-II scan tool to read the codes in the computer is necessary. The cost of fixing the problem depends on the source, with prices ranging from $20 to $400.
  • Electrical issues: After the third year, some 2019 Audi Q5 owners have reported serious electrical problems, including the sunroof not working and the cigarette lighter not functioning properly. Additionally, the emergency brake has been known to engage by itself. These issues can be frustrating and may require multiple visits to a service center for repairs.
  • Infotainment system: Some owners have expressed dissatisfaction with the infotainment system, particularly the built-in navigation system. They have reported that it is not as user-friendly or accurate as other systems, making it necessary to use Android Auto or CarPlay for navigation.

These common problems with the 2019 Audi Q5 are similar to those found in other small luxury SUVs. While they may require repairs, they are generally not severe enough to significantly impact the overall reliability or life expectancy of the vehicle.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
  • VIN: WA1B4AFY2K2
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: Panoramic roof glass exploded outwards while driving on the highway. No sign of rock damage or debris hitting. The glass is deformed outwards. The glass was sent towards the interior of the car. The sunroof shade was closed and many pieces of glass were caught by this otherwise the driver would have been hit by glass shards.

SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-22
  • VIN: WA1B4AFYXK2
  • Components: SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: No warning lights or fault codes. Took it to Audi of Dallas and without a code they said they couldn’t troubleshoot it. The car makes a whining noise only while under acceleration and is prominate between 20-50 mph. Also the fuel gauge (electric) does not show the correct amount of fuel. I have already ran out of fuel and it still showed 200+ miles left and the gauge was still around 1/2. Also while at the dealer they replaced my motor mounts through my extended warranty and said i needed to replace the rear shocks but it wasn’t covered (3rd party extended warranty) that i purchased from the dealer i bought the car from in Austin.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-28
  • VIN: WA1C4AFY1K2
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The Adaptive Cruise Control erroneously detects things such as shadows when going under bridges as stationary objects positioned in front of the vehicle, and aggressively applies the brake, causing an unsafe situation. If this occurs on wintry roads or icy conditions, this could create a safety hazard, especially at highway speeds. There is also no known way to disable the adaptive cruise control during periods where this could be a likely scenario, such as certain times of the day when the sun can cast shadows into the lane of traffic.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-04
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: WA1B4AFY2K2
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: Collision on highway and airbags did not deploy. White powder was present on dashboard after accident but not deployment of any airbags. Was hit on driver side and pushed off the highway were I struck a metal pole knocked that down and crashed into woods and trees area.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-06
  • VIN: WA1C4AFYXK2
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: 2019 Audi SQ5 Tail Lights, Brake Lights and rear blinker failure. All lights inoperable with errors and warnings appearing on the dashboard display. Failed while driving home from a weekend trip in the evening approximately 1 hour from home. Had a friend follow behind me to reduce risk of any issues with other drivers colliding with my vehicle. The dealership inspected the vehicle and found numerous faults stored in comfort module for short circuits to B+ in lighting for rear of vehicle. Dealer performed software update to comfort module per technical service bulletin 2055123/4. As the owner of an expensive vehicle with Platinum extended warranty coverage, the dealership and warranty company (VWFS Protection Services, Inc.) claim software is not covered by my warranty. The dealership stated: "At this time the module has not failed, so there is no replacement needed. Audi has a technical service bulletin for optimized software to address this concern. That is where things would need to start with having the most current version. If there was a continued issue after that update, then it's possible there's a replacement of parts that would be needed." This is a serious safety concern. The vehicle software caused the failure. Audi has created a problem that caused the lights to become non-operational. This presents a clear and apparent risk to driver safety. This could easily be deemed grounds for a recall for leaving the vehicle in a dangerous condition. The vehicle tail lights, brake lights and rear blinkers do not work without the software update. The same statement can be made for the control module. They now fail to operate with this vehicle. If Audi chooses to fix the vehicle via a software fix instead of replacing them with parts that do work mechanically and/or electrically with this vehicle, that was the choice Audi and their dealership made, thus eliminating my warranty coverage for the fix, forcing me to pay full cost for their software errors/update.

STEERING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-04
  • VIN: WA1B4AFY5K2
  • Components: STEERING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: First, the tail lights malfunctioned randomly. Both tail lights were out due to some software error that eventually resolved after a week. Thankfully this was covered by Audi, and there is a redundant tail light system in place. The error just suddenly came up and all main tail lights and turning signals failed. This could have ended terribly as i was driving at night. An additional issue is the power steering also randomly failed. This is probably my biggest issue so far. The vehicle has 37k miles, and the power steering randomly went out while driving. This could have been catastrophic if i wasnt on a small road. In winter this could have easily caused a crash either to the terrain around me or another motorist. Issue has been diagnosed as electronic steering rack failure. For both these issues there were 0 symptoms just a sudden loss.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-23
  • VIN: WA1C4BFY6K2
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: Rear sunroof exploded. Sounded like a large rock or gunshot and then shattered glass from the rear sunroof. The interior shade caught the glass. Car was immediately dropped off at the Audi dealership in SLC, Ut. Dealership tried to say it was from a rock hitting the car but no one was around me. A simple search on the internet shows this gas occurred numerous times on all different Audi models.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-01-11
  • VIN: WA1B4AFY5K2
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: THE TRUNK LID HAS OPENED ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE NIGHT TIME, SOME SMALL CARGO (MADE OF PLASTIC) FELL OUT OF THE TRUNK AND WAS DESTROYED BY THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME AND IN ADJACENT LANE WHILE CREATING SOME MINOR ROAD HAZARD. INSTANTLY PULLED OVER ON A SOFT SHOULDER, PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND GOT OUT TO CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED. THE TRUNK WAS WIDE OPEN BUT HAZARDS WERE NOT VISIBLE AS THEY ARE ATTACHED TO THE TRUNK LID WHICH WAS OPEN AND FACING UPWARDS, EFFECTIVELY MAKING THE HAZARD LIGHTS INVISIBLE TO THE TRAFFIC IN THE NIGHT TIME BEHIND ME. SMALL REFLECTORS ON THE BUMPER ARE SO TINY THAT IN THE NIGHT TIME ARE PRACTICALLY USELESS AND INVISIBLE TO THE CARS BEHIND YOU IF THEY ARE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. A FEW CARS BEHIND ME HAD TO BRAKE HARD AND CHANGE LANES. THERE ARE ESSENTIALLY TWO SAFETY PROBLEMS: 1) THE TRUNK OPENED WHILE DRIVING (NO SOUND OR DASHBOARD WARNINGS) AND 2) DESIGN FLAW OF THE TAILGATE LIGHTS WHICH ARE ATTACHED TO THE TRUNK LID INSTEAD OF AT LEAST PARTIALLY BEING ATTACHED TO REAR PART OF QUARTER PANEL. SINCE IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO STAY ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE NIGHT, I PULLED IN TO A NEAREST PARKING LOT TO REPORT TO AUDI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. IMAGINE THE SITUATION WHEN SOMEONE GETS A FLAT IN THE NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY AND NEEDS TO CHANGE THE TIRE THEMSELVES, IF THE TRUNK IS OPEN WHILE YOU GET THE SPARE AND TOOLS , THEY ARE IN GREAT DANGER. DISCUSSED THIS WITH AUDI CORPORATE AND THEY SENT ME TO A DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE IT. SEEMS LIKE NEITHER OF THEM HAVE A SOLUTION. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. THANK YOU.

  • VIN: WA1B4AFYXK2
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: ON A SUBURBAN STREET THAT I REGULARLY DRIVE ON WITH NO CAR NEARER THAN 100 YARDS IN FRONT OF ME AND FORTUNATELY NO CAR BEHIND ME THE AUDI PRESENSE SYSTEM ACTUATED SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES AND FLASHING A RED TRIANGLE IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN. IF A CAR HAD BEEN FOLLOWED BEHIND ME I WOULD'VE BEEN REAR-ENDED

Negative 2019 Audi Sq5 car reviews

  1. Craig Mitchell 2024-04-11

I purchased my car on 9/28/19 from Jack Daniel Route 4 NJ for $41,000 with 28,600 miles on it. Since then, I have had a few issues with the car, such as the water pump and heating system failing, but they were promptly fixed. The driver window was also making noise, but it was fixed as well. The antenna is slightly unglued, but unfortunately, Audi would not replace it under warranty, so I used crazy glue. The center light bulb on the right side bumper does not switch on, but Audi says it got bumped, so they won't change it under warranty. I found that the Continental tires were not great, so when it's time to change them, I plan to get Michelin. The only major issue I have had with the car is the ABS brake system, which adjusts itself every time I start driving after less than 15 seconds. It makes a crunching/clicking noise, but it's not too loud and can only be noticed at low speeds. Audi says it's normal for the 2018 and 2019 models, but not for the 2020 model. Currently, my car has 40,527 miles, and the 40,000-mile maintenance cost me $995. I'm not sure if I'll keep the car after 49,000 miles. In 2012, I bought a new 2013 Q5, and I had no problems with it until I sold it in 2016. However, that one was built in Europe, while the SQ5 is made in Mexico.

  2. Columbus Lehner 2024-03-09

Although my 2018 SQ5 experienced a thermostat failure, it was promptly addressed by the dealer. While this issue has been reported by other owners on audiworld.com, it is important to note that it was resolved within a week and did not cause any further damage. Overall, I am satisfied with the car's performance and features. However, I do hope that Audi will continue to improve their reliability in the future.

Positive 2019 Audi Sq5 car reviews

  1. Dino Balistreri 2024-10-13

This is a wonderful car. The technology is very adaptable, the car is comfortable, and it looks great. There are many nice details. I can't wait to see the gas mileage!

  2. Danial Fisher 2024-10-11

The I Pace S is a classy choice that will make you look great, while the AMG GLC and X3 M might not be for everyone. Have you considered the Macan? It's a great all-rounder, although some might argue that the little clock on the dash isn't worth the extra cost. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your personal preferences and needs.

  3. Olaf Schuppe 2024-09-27

Very reliable, fun to drive, and comfortable. Although, I have had some issues with the safety feature which auto brakes when it senses danger, as it can be overly sensitive and jerk the car to a halt in non-threatening situations. Additionally, the brakes grind, which Audi says is normal. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience with this car, but I am considering the BMW X5 for a change.

  4. Erling Bechtelar 2024-08-29

Hey there! Don't forget to do your homework!

  5. Tyrell Lind 2024-06-20

I really enjoy fast cars, but I also appreciate practicality and performance. Over the years, I have owned two Porsches, two BMWs, and a Golf R, which I loved. However, my current Audi SQ5 provides me with a luxurious ride and impressive performance when I want it. My wife also finds the SQ5 much more comfortable than the Golf R. I compared the Mercedes GLC and the Macan, but I was disappointed with the Mercedes' performance. Although it was fast, the car felt barely controlled. On the other hand, the Macan did not provide me with the same feeling of total completeness that I get from the SQ5. I have owned my SQ5 for six months now, and I believe that this review accurately reflects my experience.
