2002 Audi S6 problems

audi logo

The Audi S6 is the performance variant of the Audi A6, an executive car produced by German automaker Audi. It went on sale in 1994, shortly after the "A6" designation was introduced, replacing the "100" nameplate.

The original S6 was largely the same car as the outgoing, original Audi S4 (C4) (Ur-S4), with the only visible differences being new body-cladding and badging. In certain markets where the even-higher performance RS6 (which is also based on the A6) is not sold, the S6 is the most powerful A6 trim there.

The S6, like all Audi "S" models, is fitted as standard with Audi's trademark quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, the S6 using the Torsen-based permanent 4WD.

Negative 2002 Audi S6 car reviews

  1. Ryan Fadel 2024-06-16

The concept behind the car is great, but unfortunately, the execution fell short. Despite four visits to the dealer within the first month, my initial car still had a driveline shake that could not be corrected. Even after ordering a second car, the same issue persisted. Audi of America reached out after the sale, but did not offer any solutions or express interest in finding a fix. It is clear that improvements need to be made in order to ensure customer satisfaction.

Positive 2002 Audi S6 car reviews

  1. Vince Friesen 2024-11-25

Probably the ultimate compromise between sport and utility! It has as much room as an SUV, but it's way more fun to drive. Any more performance would be too much for North America.

  2. Columbus Cummings 2024-10-21

The car is great, but I can't help but think how much better it would be with twin turbos. I heard the RS6 Avant might be coming soon, which would make me even happier! I recently traded in my S4 for this car and I'm really happy with my decision. The only thing I miss is the 6-speed, but I can definitely live without it.

  3. Corbin Lindgren 2024-09-21

Power is amazing, especially in sport mode with a perfect growl from the engine/exhaust. The transmission is very smooth, a little slow in normal mode, but much crisper and quicker in sport mode. It's very easy to elicit desired downshifts. The handling is light and nimble, which is surprising for a car that weighs 4,000 pounds. It's even better than the S4 Avant. The suspension is very comfortable for everyday driving, but it's flat and firm when driven with vigor. There's virtually zero body roll, pitch, or dive. The steering is very accurate, slightly overboosted at low speeds, but perfect at high speeds. The interior is flawless, and the Alcantara is very nice and grippy. It's a typical perfect Audi. The exterior style, especially in Amulet or Black, is amazing and very muscular.

  4. Caesar Waelchi 2024-07-03

I've owned a number of Audis over the last twenty years and this one certainly has impressive acceleration.

  5. Blaise Kuphal 2024-06-20

The S6 wagon is a force to be reckoned with on the road. Don't be fooled by its unassuming appearance - once those taillights disappear from view, you'll understand why it's known as the biggest 'sleeper' on the road. Take this wagon seriously.
