The Audi S6 is the performance variant of the Audi A6, an executive car produced by German automaker Audi. It went on sale in 1994, shortly after the "A6" designation was introduced, replacing the "100" nameplate.

The original S6 was largely the same car as the outgoing, original Audi S4 (C4) (Ur-S4), with the only visible differences being new body-cladding and badging. In certain markets where the even-higher performance RS6 (which is also based on the A6) is not sold, the S6 is the most powerful A6 trim there.

  • Summary: 2014 AUDI S6- Consumer states " I am writing to file a claim for a vehicle recall on my 2014 Audi S6. The date of the recall is March-20-2022. The NHTSA Campaign# is 22V-178. The Audi Recall# is 21H7. The specific defect that is being recalled is Turbo failure. In early 2021, I experienced multiple problems with my vehicle that were consistent with the recall, such as Rough Idling, Difficult to Start, and Stalls. It was fixed at a local Audi dealership in May-2021 (prior to the recall announcement). I was responsible for the repair expenses, which totaled $4198.29, for the Turbo and oil strainer replacement. When I became aware of the recall, I filed a claim with Audi to request reimbursement. Audi's recall website indicates that there are no recalls pending for my vehicle, but the Model Year/Model/Engine/Issue is consistent with the scope of the recall. In over 7 months after filing the claim, I have not heard back from Audi even after repeat inquiries. I would like NHTSA's help to get reimbursement from the OEM. No warning or dash lights, car abruptly stopped on Highway while traveling 65mph 15 hours after Audi replaced replaced both fuel pumps and oil screen recall fix. Inspection of entire vehicle was done at time of recall fix and fuel pumps replaced. This is the second time in 30k miles that the camshaft components failed without warning. This is a major job and very expensive. Why hasn't this issue been recalled?? This is a safety hazard and a public safety issue. This could have caused a fatal accident while I was driving my family the store.

  • Summary: Two months into owning the car, my turbo failed. Car was towed to dealership and are trying to charge me 11,000$. 2 weeks into owning vehicle. Noticed oil level at minimum. Call dealer and was advised to add oil. Never was told to come into service to have it checked. Upon further investigation, I had found out first week of august about recall. While and prior to purchasing. Dealership never informed me about any safety recalls. Previous owner had put on some aftermarket parts, which have nothing to do with faulty manufacture part. Oil strainer in turbo had failed and caused turbo failure. Dealer personnel have stated “There is nothing we can do for you. Your car is not eligible for a recall repair.” Whilst Audi of America had stated that it is a manufacturing fault and they should repair and inspect. My car has been at the dealership for over a month, has not been touched, nor inspected for this. Was told today 08/17/2022 to return the loaner they had given me and “pick up my car” which is not operational at all. Have tried to reach out to the dealership numerous times, and am not received any calls back until today 08/17/2022 to retrieve my car. I have been treated rudely, and have been lied to and misinformed by Audi of Naperville Illinois since the day I purchased. Was verbally told my car was certified with warranty, but now all of a sudden, there is no certification. Sales man Amin had sold me the car. Was told by numerous Audi dealerships this car should not have been on the market. General manager Michael Margas has not been willing to compromise or come with a solution. Only solution was to give me 18 thousand for my car to trade in and a 900$ payment a month on another car which is 300 dollars more than what I have. Car sat a few days, and next time it was driven, received cascade of MIL warnings for suspension auto leveling failure, auto leveling headlights, adaptive cruise, lane keeping, and auto braking. Console advised to keep speed below 35 MPH. Had to quickly exit the road as result. Limped vehicle home on side roads, found codes across multiple systems. Suspension would not raise, and all coda would immediately return upon clearing. Vehicle was evaluated by local shop, and diagnostics show failed suspension air compressor and relay.

  • Summary: The turbo failed while driving the car at normal speed trying to enter freeway. Luckily I was able to get the car to the side of the road safely. The vehicle has always been serviced by Audi on prescribed intervals. After researching, I found a TSB on the oil screens that feed the turbos. The dealer (Audi Miramar, San Diego) told me this is not/was not a required repair and quoted me $16k to replace the turbos and replace the faulty screen. I ended up taking the car to another authorized Audi repair center and got them repaired for $9k. Audi needs to address this before someone has an accident.

Each time I have taken the car back to Audi Marietta Jim Ellis. Each time I have paid thousands of dollars to remedy the problem. But other issues with the car engine keep arising. I have replaced the entire suspension at 60k miles... and Air struts at 70k. Engine mounts, Transmission mounts, replaced the battery twice. Dealership can not understand why the components are wearing out prematurely. The car is a safety issue and at this point I am fearful when I have to drive the car. This car is a lemon! But Audi will not buy the car back.

  • Summary: DURING A 500 MILE ROAD TRIP FROM IA TO MO I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST SYMPTOM. I WAS ABOUT 5 HOURS INTO THE TRIP, CRUISE WAS SET AT ABOUT 70MPH. ALL OF THE SUDDEN A 'SHUDDER' WENT THROUGH THE CAR, LIKE THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ALL POWER FOR A MOMENT. GETS YOUR ATTENTION IN A HURRY! I CHECKED ALL THE GAUGES, AND THERE WERE NO ERRORS AND EVERYTHING APPEARED IN ORDER. WE WERE ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES FROM THE DESTINATION, SO WE DECIDED TO SEE IF WE WOULD HAVE ANY TROUBLE MAKING IT. WE MADE IT THE REST OF THE WAY DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY WE HAD TO DRIVE BACK TO IA. IN GENERAL THE CAR DROVE OKAY. ALTHOUGH WE DID EXPERIENCE THE SHUDDER ABOUT 4 TIME ON THE TRIP HOME. I WAS SURPRISED THAT WE MADE IT, BASED ON THE FIRST SHUDDER. ONCE I GOT HOME I DECIDED TO INSPECT THE TURBOS, AS THEY HAVE A FAILURE HISTORY IN THESE CARS. I USED A BORESCOPE TO CHECK THE TURBOS. THE PASSENGER SIDE TURBO HAD OIL IN THE INTAKE, INDICATING OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE TURBO COMPRESSOR SEAL. THERE WAS ALSO SLIGHT SCRAPING OF THE COMPRESSOR BLADES ON THE HOUSING, INDICATING THE INITIAL STAGES OF FAILURE. THE CAR WAS PARKED UNTIL I COULD GET A CHANCE TO PULL EVERYTHING APART. THIS WEEKEND I PULLED THE CAR APART. I FOUND A PLUGGED TURBO OIL SCREEN BURIED DEEP IN THE VEE OF THE ENGINE. THE ORIGINAL OIL SCREEN WAS DEFORMED IN THE DIRECTION OF OIL FLOW, INDICATING THE RESTRICTION TO FLOW THAT IT HAD CREATED. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF THE EXISTING OIL SCREEN AND A BRAND NEW OIL SCREEN HELD UP TO A LIGHT. THIS IS TO INDICATE THE LEVEL OF BLOCKAGE ON THE ORIGINAL SCREEN. CAR HAD 91,828 MILES WHEN IT WAS SCOPED. I HAVE OWNED 16 AUDI'S OVER THE YEARS, 9 WITH TURBOS. THIS IS MY FIRST TURBO FAILURE EVER. I HAVE TAKEN MANY OF THE CARS UP AROUND 200K MILES, WITH A FEW SURPASSING IT BEFORE BEING TRADED.

  • Summary: MY SPECIFIC YEAR MODEL 2014 AS WELL AS ALL 4.0TT MODELS 2013-2014 HAVE A WELL KNOWN ISSUE IN WHICH, BY FAULTY DESIGN, THE OIL SUPPLY TO THE TURBOS IS RESTRICTED THEREFOR CAUSING THE TURBOS TO FAIL. THE FLAWED DESIGN IS IN RELATION TO THE OIL SCREEN THAT CLOGS AND STARVES THE TURBOS OF OIL AND CAUSING FAILURE. AUDI HAS SINCE BEGAN INSTALLING A REVISED VERSION OF THIS SCREEN TO ALLEVIATE THESE ISSUES IN MODELS AFTER2016. BUT THEY HAVE ORDERED A RECALL FOR YEAR MODELS 2013-2016. EVEN WITH SERVICE INTERVALS CUT IN HALF(OIL CHANGES AT 5,000 MILES INSTEAD OF 10,000 MILES) IT IS STILL A VERY COMMON ISSUE. WHEN THE TURBOS FAIL THE ENGINE IS UNABLE TO RUN AND CAN POSE A SERIOUS DANGER TO THE DRIVER AS WELL AS OTHER MOTORISTS ON THE ROAD. NOT ONLY IS THIS A REAL AND SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, THE COST OF THE REPAIRS TO REPLACE THE TURBOS(DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW) IS UPWARDS OF $6,000 CONSERVATIVELY. AUDI HAS RELEASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE REPAIRS OF THE OIL SEPARATOR TO 100,000 MILES, BUT THIS ONLY ADDRESSES PART OF THE PROBLEM. MANY TIMES BY THE TIME THE OIL SEPARATOR IS FLAGGED BY THE ECU, THE DAMAGE TO THE TURBOS IS ALREADY DONE. ON TOP OF THAT IF THE TURBOS FAIL DUE TO THE OIL SEPARATOR OR DUE TO THE OIL SCREEN CLOGGING, THE ONLY REPAIRS AND COSTS COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ARE FOR THE OIL SEPARATOR ITSELF. FOR EXAMPLE, IF MY OIL SCREEN CLOGS(WHICH LEADS TO NO CEL) OR IF MY OIL SEPARATOR FAILS IN TURN CAUSING TO TURBOS TO FAIL, THE ONLY THING COVERED BY WARRANTY IS THE OIL SEPARATOR. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ALSO IS ALSO ONLY ALLOWED TO BE USED AFTER THE ITEM HAS FAILED AND NOT PREVENTATIVELY. IF THESE ITEMS WERE TO BE COVERED AND REPLACE PREVENTATIVELY THE TURBOS WOULD NO LONGER BE FAILING DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE IN THE AUDI 4.0 COMMUNITY. NOW, 1 MONTH AGO, POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AGAIN, FOR TWO DAYS, AND THEN RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION ONCE I LEFT SNOW COUNTY (I DON'T KNOW IF THE COLD HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE SYSTEM IS ELECTRIC-ASSISTED, NOT HYDRAULIC). I TOOK VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALER THAT REPLACED POWER STEERING SYSTEM 18 MONTHS AGO, AND NOW THEY CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG - BUT THEY SUGGESTED I COULD REPLACE THE WHOLE POWER STEERING MODULE AGAIN FOR $5700, SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, POWER STEERING FAILED, THEN RESUMED, AND THEN FAILED IN A REPEATED MANNER EVERY 30 SECONDS OR SO, WHILE ALSO SOMETIMES REMAINING BROKEN FOR MINUTES AT A TIME. BEHAVIOR DID NOT SEEM TO BE RELATED TO VEHICLE MOTION. I CALLED AUDI OF AMERICA, AND THEY SAY THERE IS LITTLE THAT CAN BE DONE, YET THEY CLAIM THEY'LL TALK TO THE DEALER AND GET BACK TO ME. CONVERSATION DID NOT SOUND HOPEFUL, AND WHEN THE PROPOSED SOLUTION FROM THE DEALER WAS TO REPLACE THE EXACT SAME MODULE THAT WAS REPLACED 18 MONTHS AGO, I SUSPECT SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON.

ENGINE MOUNTS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS WERE REPLACED AT 63,000. NOW AT 75,000 MILES, ENGINE CAMSHAFT HAS FAILED AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. OIL IS CHANGED EVERY 3K MILES AND ALL MAINTENANCE IS UP TO DATE AND ALWAYS DONE ON TIME OR BEFORE REQUIRED. CAR ALWAYS SMELL LIKE GAS. INSPECTION FOUND NO ISSUES. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR BILL FROM THE AUDI DEALER WAS $48,000, YES THAT'S NOT A TYPO, $48,000 IS WAY MORE THAN THE CAR IS EVEN WORTH. WE STILL OWE $30,000 ON A CAR THAT IS ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS WITHOUT A RUNNING ENGINE AND IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX. I BELIEVE AUDI SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE.

  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING BEHIND AN AUDI S6 (ONE OF THE NEWER MODELS WITH FULL LED LIGHTING) AT NIGHT. I FOUND ITS LED BRAKE LIGHTS BLINDINGLY BRIGHT. THE DRIVING LIGHTS ARE VERY BRIGHT BY THEMSELVES, BUT THEY'RE BORDERLINE TOLERABLE, HOWEVER BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN THEY COME ON ARE EXTREMELY BRIGHT - I COULD NOT LOOK AT THAT CAR WHEN DRIVING BEHIND IT, IT WAS TOO PAINFUL TO LOOK AT. I HAD TO TAKE MY EYES OFF THAT CAR AND OFF THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME AS A RESULT OF THIS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. I COULD NOT HAVE THOSE TAILLIGHTS WITHIN MY FIELD OF VISION, THEY HURT EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO LOOK AWAY FROM THAT AUDI. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING BEHIND NEW AUDIS AND OTHER CARS THAT USE EXTREMELY BRIGHT LED TAILLIGHTS. I COULD HAVE CRASHED BECAUSE WHEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN BEHIND THAT AUDI THAT LIT UP ITS TAILLIGHTS WHEN BRAKING I COULD NOT LOOK AHEAD ON THE ROAD AND AT THE CAR. I HAD TO BRAKE BLINDLY WHILE BRIEFLY LOOKING UP FOR A MILLISECOND OR TWO (AND SUFFERING EYE PAIN) NOW AND THEN TO ENSURE I WASN'T GOING TO CRASH INTO IT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONSTANTLY MAINTAIN THE AUDI IN FRONT OF ME WITHIN FIELD OF SIGHT DUE TO SEVERE EYE PAIN IT CAUSED ME. IS THERE A LAW THAT MANDATES A SAFE LIGHT OUTPUT BY THE HEADLIGHTS? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2014 Audi S6.

  • Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER
  • Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2013-2017 A8, S6 Sedan, S7, S8, and 2014-2017 RS7 vehicles. The turbocharger oil supply strainer can become blocked, causing wear to the bearings due to lack of lubrication.
  • Consequence: Worn bearings can cause the turbine wheel to contact the turbocharger housing or cause the shaft to break, causing an engine stall and increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the oil strainer and perform an oil change, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 4, 2022. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 21H7.

  • Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Audi S6 and S7, 2012-2018 A7 and A6 Sedan, and 2014-2018 RS7 vehicles equipped with basic seats (with or without heating). Stress or wear of the body-sensing mat within the front passenger seat may cause the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) control module to malfunction.
  • Consequence: If the PODS module malfunctions, the front passenger air bag may not deploy properly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a PODS system repair kit, free of charge. The recall began November 29, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 74D5.

  • Consequence: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line, free of charge. The safety recall is planned to begin in late October 2013. Owners may contact Audi of America at 1-800-822-2834. Volkswagen's number for this campaign is 20U6/L8.

    I recently traded in my 2011 Audi S4 Prestige with drive Select for a 2013 S6 with the invovation package. Even though the S6 was 30% more expensive than the S4, I still consider it a bargain. In my opinion, it rides better, handles better, is faster, and is much more technologically advanced than the S4. Surprisingly, it also gets just as good gas mileage. As someone who has been driving Audi Quattros since 1987 and has owned eleven of them, I can confidently say that the 2013 Audi S6 is one awesome car!
