Audi S6 problems
The Audi S6 is the performance variant of the Audi A6, an executive car produced by German automaker Audi. It went on sale in 1994, shortly after the "A6" designation was introduced, replacing the "100" nameplate.
The original S6 was largely the same car as the outgoing, original Audi S4 (C4) (Ur-S4), with the only visible differences being new body-cladding and badging. In certain markets where the even-higher performance RS6 (which is also based on the A6) is not sold, the S6 is the most powerful A6 trim there.
The S6, like all Audi "S" models, is fitted as standard with Audi's trademark quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, the S6 using the Torsen-based permanent 4WD.

Common Audi S6 problems
The Audi S6 is a high-performance luxury sedan that has garnered a reputation for its comfort, power, and advanced technology. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common issues and complaints from owners.
- Start-Stop Defects: Audi S6s with start-stop technology have experienced issues with the system, which can cause the engine to stall or fail to restart when the vehicle is in motion. This can be a significant safety concern and may require multiple trips to the dealership for repairs.
- DSG Transmission Shifting Problems: The dual-clutch transmission (DSG) in the Audi S6 has been reported to have shifting issues, including rough or delayed shifts, and even complete transmission failure. These problems can be costly to repair and may require a replacement of the entire transmission.
- Oil Starved Turbochargers: The turbochargers in the Audi S6 have been reported to suffer from oil starvation, which can lead to premature failure. This issue can be particularly problematic in high-performance driving situations, where the turbochargers are under increased stress. Regular oil changes are crucial to prevent this issue, but even with proper maintenance, the turbos may still fail prematurely.
- Expensive Maintenance Costs: The Audi S6 is a high-performance luxury vehicle, and as such, it comes with high maintenance costs. Parts such as the front brakes, which are an expensive Audi-only 400mm disc, can cost over a grand to replace. Additionally, the S6's complex technology and high-performance components can lead to costly repairs and maintenance.
- Gearbox Issues: The S-tronic gearboxes in the Audi S6 have been reported to be less reliable than other gearboxes. While they are generally reliable with standard power, tuned cars may require more frequent oil changes to prevent issues. The gearboxes can also suffer from turbo lag, which can affect throttle response and acceleration, particularly in low-speed city driving.
In summary, while the Audi S6 is a powerful and luxurious vehicle, it is not without its common issues and complaints from owners. These include problems with the interior infotainment screen and climate control unit, start-stop defects, DSG transmission shifting problems, oil-starved turbochargers, expensive maintenance costs, and gearbox issues. Proper maintenance and regular servicing can help prevent some of these issues, but owners should be aware of the potential costs and challenges associated with owning an Audi S6.

- Summary: We, a group of Audi S6 owners with vehicles from the 2013-2017 model years, are experiencing premature mechatronic issues. These problems manifest as jerking when coming to a stop, which can lead to accidents, and intermittent power loss that can be life-threatening. These issues began around 40,000 miles and have progressively worsened, despite our vehicles having only approximately 70,000 miles on them. Given the early onset and severity of these problems, we strongly urge a recall. The current mechatronic design appears to be flawed and fails prematurely, posing significant safety risks.

- Summary: Hi - The Crankcase Ventilation Valve Extended Warranty [XXX] covers only ten years or 120k miles. My car has close to 160k miles. According to NHTSA or Audi, “Audi has determined that, in some vehicles, it is possible for the crankcase ventilation valve to malfunction, causing a whistling noise in the engine compartment and the MIL to illuminate due to the presence of specific fault codes caused by this component. This condition may impact the vehicle tailpipe emissions, and the presence of a MIL-on condition may cause the vehicle to fail an IM (smog) test.” This is causing the engine to rev on its own, foul odor, consume more oil and gas, MIL-on, and potentially cause the IM (smog) test to fail regardless of years or miles and a safety issue. Please add this matter to recall rather than extended warranty and is likely related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V178000 which is causing oil separator and coolant pipe issues that need to be covered. I was driving to a meeting in heavy rain, no issues or suspicion of issues arising. I parked the car, returned about 2 hours later started the car to find 6 warnings on the dash (tpms fault, acc disabled, steering disabled, air ride control disabled esc disabled and a few more. Notably was the steering, it had a red light and the steering wheel was very hard to turn. The vehicle couldnt be driven. After having the computer scanned the issue was the electronic steering rack. See codes below. This is very unfortunate and strange that it came out of nowhere especially to fail this way. The vehicle is available for inspection until the part is replaced. - Summary: While driving with my wife and kids, on the highway, in the rain a warning message was displayed. The warning stated: steering malfunction, please stop the vehicle!. At which point the power steering locked-up & the engine powered down. As a result, I was unable to steer the vehicle. Thankfully, I was able to “muscle” the car off the highway and onto a secondary roadway. Vehicle was towed. With the power steering locking-up and not being able to effectively steer the vehicle this is a HUGE safety issue and needs to be addressed with Audi. This could have ended tragically if it were to happen to a driver who was unable to “muscle” the vehicle to safety.

- Summary: 2014 AUDI S6- Consumer states " I am writing to file a claim for a vehicle recall on my 2014 Audi S6. The date of the recall is March-20-2022. The NHTSA Campaign# is 22V-178. The Audi Recall# is 21H7. The specific defect that is being recalled is Turbo failure. In early 2021, I experienced multiple problems with my vehicle that were consistent with the recall, such as Rough Idling, Difficult to Start, and Stalls. It was fixed at a local Audi dealership in May-2021 (prior to the recall announcement). I was responsible for the repair expenses, which totaled $4198.29, for the Turbo and oil strainer replacement. When I became aware of the recall, I filed a claim with Audi to request reimbursement. Audi's recall website indicates that there are no recalls pending for my vehicle, but the Model Year/Model/Engine/Issue is consistent with the scope of the recall. In over 7 months after filing the claim, I have not heard back from Audi even after repeat inquiries. I would like NHTSA's help to get reimbursement from the OEM. Please contact me if any additional information is needed, such as a copy of the repair invoice. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

- VIN: WAUF2AFC5EN
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the persistent and premature failure of motor and transmission mounts on the 2014 Audi S6, manufactured and sold by [Automaker Company Name]. This issue has resulted in significant inconvenience and financial burden and, more importantly, poses profound safety implications for the passengers and drivers of affected vehicles. Background: I own a 2014 Audi S6 with Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): [XXX]. Since purchasing the vehicle in 2018, I have experienced repeated failures of the motor and transmission mounts at alarmingly low mileage intervals. The motor mounts have been malfunctioning and requiring replacement approximately every 20,000 miles. This recurring issue has not only resulted in significant expenses but also raised serious concerns about the overall safety and reliability of the vehicle. Safety Implications: The failure of motor and transmission mounts has severe safety implications for the passengers and drivers of the affected vehicles. When these crucial components fail prematurely, they can cause sudden and unexpected movements and vibrations in the engine and transmission systems, compromising the vehicle's stability, control, and overall safety. This defect can potentially lead to accidents, injuries, or even fatalities, both for the occupants of the Audi S6 and other road users. Financial and Non-Financial Consequences: The repeated failure of motor and transmission mounts has imposed significant financial and non-financial burdens on me as an owner. The cost of multiple replacements and repairs is high and unreasonable for a vehicle of this caliber. Moreover, the frequent breakdowns have caused significant inconvenience, as I have had to endure extended periods of vehicle downtime, repeated trips to the service center, and associated expenses for towing and alternative transportation. Request for Resolution: Considering the seriousness of this matter, I request that AUDI USA i INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

- Summary: Two months into owning the car, my turbo failed. Car was towed to dealership and are trying to charge me 11,000$. 2 weeks into owning vehicle. Noticed oil level at minimum. Call dealer and was advised to add oil. Never was told to come into service to have it checked. Upon further investigation, I had found out first week of august about recall. While and prior to purchasing. Dealership never informed me about any safety recalls. Previous owner had put on some aftermarket parts, which have nothing to do with faulty manufacture part. Oil strainer in turbo had failed and caused turbo failure. Dealer personnel have stated “There is nothing we can do for you. Your car is not eligible for a recall repair.” Whilst Audi of America had stated that it is a manufacturing fault and they should repair and inspect. My car has been at the dealership for over a month, has not been touched, nor inspected for this. Was told today 08/17/2022 to return the loaner they had given me and “pick up my car” which is not operational at all. Have tried to reach out to the dealership numerous times, and am not received any calls back until today 08/17/2022 to retrieve my car. I have been treated rudely, and have been lied to and misinformed by Audi of Naperville Illinois since the day I purchased. Was verbally told my car was certified with warranty, but now all of a sudden, there is no certification. Sales man Amin had sold me the car. Was told by numerous Audi dealerships this car should not have been on the market. General manager Michael Margas has not been willing to compromise or come with a solution. Only solution was to give me 18 thousand for my car to trade in and a 900$ payment a month on another car which is 300 dollars more than what I have. He had also tried to give me a 1000$ “good will” to repair the parts. Also was told car was serviced 2 weeks prior to purchasing. Last service was December of 2018. I have the service records printed, recall incomp..

The car is great, but I can't help but think how much better it would be with twin turbos. I heard the RS6 Avant might be coming soon, which would make me even happier! I recently traded in my S4 for this car and I'm really happy with my decision. The only thing I miss is the 6-speed, but I can definitely live without it.

Vehicle year: 2003
The car is really fun to drive, but unfortunately, the front seats do not have the adjustable thigh bolster that the manual shows and there is very little thigh support. It's a shame that some Audi dealers do not provide the full information when you buy the car, which can be frustrating. However, there are many great competing products on the market to consider. We hope that Audi dealers can improve their customer service in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

The car drove and performed well, but unfortunately, the service and reliability were a nightmare. I had many occasions where my car was never even looked at or serviced after having been left all day. Ultimately, I had to get rid of the car because of the poor service and reliability. I will never buy an Audi again.

The concept behind the car is great, but unfortunately, the execution fell short. Despite four visits to the dealer within the first month, my initial car still had a driveline shake that could not be corrected. Even after ordering a second car, the same issue persisted. Audi of America reached out after the sale, but did not offer any solutions or express interest in finding a fix. It is clear that improvements need to be made in order to ensure customer satisfaction.

I have driven this car for 3000 miles and I am disappointed. Despite its admirable features, it does not display enough power or style differences over other models to justify the extra cost. However, I am confident that I will be able to sell this vehicle.
