- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2020-2022 E-Tron Sportback Quattro and 2019-2022 E-Tron Quattro vehicles. Certain high-voltage battery modules may overheat.
- Consequence: A high-voltage battery that overheats increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will install onboard diagnostic software to monitor battery module performance, and replace affected battery modules where necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed June 24, 2024, July 2, 2024, July 22, 2024, August 14, 2024, September 9, 2024, and October 11, 2024. Owners will receive a second notice once the final remedy becomes available, anticipated in 1st Quarter 2025. Owners may contact Audi customer at 1-800-253-2834. When using the industrial 220V/240V plug at the 100% charge setting, some home power outlets may be incapable of handling the electrical current required to utilize the compact charging system, causing the outlet or charging cable to overheat.
- Consequence: An overheated outlet or charging cable can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to use the 220V/240V compact/portable charging cable and only use the 110V home charging cable or public charging stations. Dealers will supply a new 220V/240V compact/portable charging cable with an incorporated temperature sensor, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 28, 2024. Updated April 1, 2023 - upgraded to 4 stars from 2 stars. Audi has made some decent updates to the software which definitely improves the overall experience. Although it still does quirky things with CarPlay (random connect/disconnect, switch off radio and opens MyAudi app on your phone after connecting, etc.), it's still workable. Lane keep assist works differently depending on if you're using it with cruise control or not, which is a bit odd. Overall, I've really enjoyed the car. It rides great, is super economical, and has top quality interior materials. The adjustable suspension for firmness and ride height is a great feature, and it looks really good too. ---Original review: As an avid car enthusiast with over 40 cars and 25 years as a software professional, I wanted to get my first electric car. I test drove the Teslas and didn't like the way they drove or the build & material quality inside the vehicle. So I was excited about Audi, known for great build quality and good driving dynamics (not as good as BMW or Porsche IMO, but good). I got the Etron on a lease and I love the car itself, but the Audi customer support and electronics in the car are ruining the ownership experience. It's really bad. The car constantly asks you to log back in, the menus make no sense, requiring you to go into different areas for functions that should be related or under the same top menu. Stupid things like scanning radio stations take an extra step. There are no instructions on how to set your desired charging time, and there's overlap on rules that conflict with where you set those areas. My SiriusXM will sometimes not work, and Audi Wifi never works. Half the time, Apple CarPlay doesn't work (I have an Apple iPhone 12 Pro, latest version). Then you try calling Audi It looks like you're having trouble with the 2021 model and the phone support menu system is not working properly. We're here to help you find a solution to this issue. I have to say, the comfort scale is a solid 10! Although the range could be longer, I want to point out that regenerative braking is actually available, despite what some so-called 'experts' might say. Personally, I find regenerative braking to be a key feature that sets this car apart. Additionally, the suspension is truly superior to anything Tesla will produce in the next 10 years, and it will out-corner all Teslas for a while. I know there's a lot of marketing buzz out there, but I encourage you to test drive both a Tesla and an Etron while the experience is fresh in your mind. With its superior comfort and suspension, and virtually no marketing hype, the Etron might just win you over. But if you still prefer Tesla, good luck sitting in that 350 miles... yak!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with this model that I purchased after Thanksgiving. So far, I have no complaints! I've already put on 3700 miles and counting. I absolutely love how quiet it is and how responsive it feels - it reminds me of a go-cart, haha! Before purchasing, I was warned that EVs tend to suffer with mileage during the winter months. Currently, I am getting 180-200 miles on a 80%-100% charge, which is perfectly fine for me since I don't drive anywhere near 100 miles a day. I'm looking forward to getting even better mileage once it gets warmer!

The e-tron offers a quiet cabin and a good ride quality. The materials inside are really nice, as expected of Audi. However, the storage in the cabin isn't as much as one would expect from a dedicated EV. The stated range isn't great for driving at high speeds, but it gets the job done for the daily commute. It's important to keep in mind that zero means zero when it comes to range, as there isn't any reserve. Hopefully, with a software update, we can get better battery performance and longer range in the future. That being said, I chose the e-tron over a Tesla Model Y due to its much better build quality and less range. I was able to get a good deal with the info provided on Edmunds, which made this an even better proposition to get into. The sound system is great, and I love the touch displays and digital cockpit. The shifter could have been smaller to allow for more space in the center console, and the cup holders are deep in the dash and small. EVs on a dedicated platform are making efficient use of interior space, and this could benefit from that as well. So far, my experience with this vehicle has been good, and it would be nice to go 500 miles on a single charge one day. For now, we are doing okay with having a second vehicle that is a hybrid and can get beyond 500 miles on a single fill-up. Overall, the e-tron is not only a great-looking vehicle, but it also drives well and does everything else superbly. With additional charging stations coming online, doing long trips in it will offer less stress of range anxiety. This one is definitely worth buying.

I tried out all the available EVs before deciding on the E-Tron and I'm really happy with my choice. It's a quiet, comfortable, and spacious car with plenty of great features. It's also pretty good-looking! The tech can be a bit quirky, sometimes connecting to Apple Car Play quickly and sometimes requiring a bit of button-pushing to connect. One thing to note is that the car doesn't have AM radio, so if you listen to local news, you'll need to stream it through your phone. Make sure you have a good data plan! You can program the E-Tron to climatize for the next morning, but unfortunately, you can only set it for one day at a time. My previous car allowed me to set it for the whole workweek, so I do miss that feature. However, even with my daily commute of 80-125 miles, I haven't had to use a charger other than at home or work in the few months I've had the car. I love it! Update 12/22/22: I've noticed stress marks on the plastic housing of both my mirrors for the second time. The first time this happened was after 8 months of ownership, and Audi initially didn't want to replace the mirrors. However, I persisted and they eventually swapped them out. Unfortunately, the problem has now come back on the new mirrors. While Audi acknowledges that this pattern is not caused by outside forces, they consider it a

This car has had some issues, including the driver's side charger connection not connecting even after being replaced, which requires inconvenient charging from the passenger side and prevents fast charging. Additionally, there have been constant issues with car play and MMI connectivity. While the battery only charges to a maximum of 140 in the winter, the dealer has assured me that this is not a problem. It is unfortunate that these issues are common with this car and Audi has not yet addressed them. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the right attention and care.

I have owned 5 different Audi/VW vehicles, including 2 EVs. The new VW ID4 has been great with no initial quality issues at 500 miles. However, my experience with the $105k Audi E Tron SUV has been less than ideal. While the minor paint issue was resolved after 3 separate visits, the MMI (Multi Media) has been a persistent problem. Despite the minimal maintenance required for EVs, I have had to take it in for service 4 times in the 14 months I have owned it. The Sirius XM and connection issue has been particularly frustrating, and even the Engineering Code did not help. I am disappointed that it has come to this, but I am considering other EV brands like MB or Lucid. On a positive note, the dealership has offered to repurchase the car after it spent 65+ days in the shop with no repair. Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up about Audi's repurchase offers. It's important to be careful because they may try to low-ball you and not cover all the costs, including collateral costs. It's definitely frustrating when you don't come out whole in the end and feel like you're getting screwed out of the equity you've built. In my experience, they paid me 38K for a car worth 56K and then resold it. It's not ideal, but just something to keep in mind!

I noticed that you mentioned the battery range is supposed to be about 230+ miles, but you're only getting around 150 miles with an 80% charge. I really enjoyed my Etron! It had a lot of the features I was looking for in an EV, although there were a few issues. While the ride was smooth and comfortable, I did experience some range loss due to heating and cooling. Unfortunately, after 8 months of driving, I encountered an electronic malfunction warning light on my dash and the car stopped working. It was frustrating that Audi was so backed up on services that they couldn't look at it for a week, and there were no loaners available at the time. However, they did eventually reach out and informed me that the rear motor had failed due to coolant leaking from a faulty valve. It turns out that this is a known issue with Etrons, and there's even a platform where customers have shared their stories. I think that Audi is still working out some of the kinks with their first EV, but with more experience over the next few years, they'll be able to build better electrical systems.
