Common Audi E-tron problems
The Audi e-tron, Audi's first full electric car, has been praised for its technology and luxury features. However, there are several common problems reported by owners that potential buyers should be aware of.
- Battery Issues: Battery-related problems are a common complaint among e-tron owners. Some have reported that the battery went dead and would not jump-start as Audi recommended against this.
- Charging Issues: Several owners have reported charging-related problems, such as the car not charging at home or not working with some public chargers. Some have also mentioned that the car won't fully charge or that there are issues with the charge connection or charge port door.
- Software Issues: Some owners have reported software-related problems, including issues with the infotainment system, rear entertainment system, and backup or other camera/sensors. One owner mentioned that they could not communicate with the vehicle via Audi Connect, and it took several trips to the dealer to resolve the issue.
- Noises and Leaks: Some owners have reported noises and leaks, including squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks, and premature pad/rotor wear.
- Interior and Exterior Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the interior and exterior of the car, including paint issues, loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, and rust.
- Braking Issues: Some owners have reported braking-related issues, including pulsation or vibration, antilock system problems, parking brake issues, and regenerative braking problems.
- Suspension Issues: Some owners have reported suspension-related issues, including front suspension ball joints needing the bushings to be replaced.
- Climate Control Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the climate control system, including AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, and refrigerant leakage.
- Electrical Issues: Some owners have reported electrical-related issues, including problems with windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls, seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect, cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, and wireless charging pad.

- Summary: I received the recall notice and I attempted to get my battery inspected and interim software installed on my vehicle on 9/9 at Audi North Atlanta. I was told that neither can be done because they do not have the parts needed for the inspection or the software install. When I pressed for more information, I was told that the inspection and software update will make the vehicle undriveable until they have the required parts. I was told I would be contacted when the parts were in so that my vehicle could be inspected and the software update could be installed. On the evening of 9/12, when I started my vehicle a red warning light appeared with the message "Electrical system malfunction! Safely stop the vehicle". I contacted the nearest Audi dealership (Audi Gwinnett) and told them I think I'm having an issue related to the recall. They said they could check the vehicle but they didn't have any appointments for a week. I let the vehicle sit and the warning went away. I attempted to make it to Audi North Atlanta (who have worked on the battery of my vehicle before) before the closed, but I was unable to. The next morning (9/13), the warning light had returned with the same message as before. I again let the vehicle sit until the warning went away. I took the vehicle to Audi North Atlanta and was told again that my vehicle cannot be inspected for the recall and that I am responsible for a diagnostic fee since the warning light is not on. I asked why this wasn't attached to the recall inspection and was told that the warning light could be on for any reason. I again asked about why they couldn't do the free recall inspection and again I was told they do not have the required parts. I have reviewed the documents associated with the 93U9 recall (NHTSA #23V867000) and the only part required for the inspection and software update is a sticker to remind me not to charge my vehicle past 80%.

- Summary: Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Water Ingress and Electrical Damage – Seeking Damages Dear Audi Customer Service, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding significant issues with my Audi vehicle, which have led to severe damage and financial loss. Below are the details of the incidents: Initial Incident of Water Ingress: A few months ago, my Audi experienced water ingress through the sunroof, causing water to enter the front of the vehicle. This issue was addressed and repaired by your dealership under warranty. Recent Incident of Water Ingress: From June 13 to June 15, during heavy rains in Florida, my vehicle was stationary and parked. On [XXX], while driving the vehicle, I noticed an electrical burning smell and had to stop immediately. All the lights were displaying errors. Upon taking the vehicle to the Audi dealership, it was discovered that there was water ingress into the battery area and the rear of the vehicle. Despite the previous repairs for water ingress, the recent inspection revealed extensive water damage. The dealership has stated that the damage cannot be repaired under warranty and provided an estimated repair bill of $23,000. Consequently, my insurance company had to declare the vehicle a total loss. Given the history of water ingress issues and the failure of the initial repair to prevent further damage, it is evident that there is a significant defect in the vehicle. It is unacceptable that such a defect has not been adequately addressed, posing a safety hazard to consumers. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS I AM not the only victim of this problem and audi is aware. - Summary: Going about 50-55mph on dark road I have driven on for last six months in all conditions. Last night was normal dry conditions. I had cruise control and audi presense set to early detection. Suddenly the brakes engaged hard for a split second and then stopped. While this happened the cockpit display said "Audi pre sense" with a red circle icon below. After this the vehicle continued to drive without further incident. This is a common problem in various Audi models that would present various dangers. In particular I can't imagine what would happen if my pregnant wife was buckled in and the brakes suddenly slammed hard.

- Summary: I talked to an Audi representative and it appears there are recalls for sunroof leaking in various cars it was installed upon that include Volkswagen and Audi. My 2019 Audi was not included and the representative cannot explain why even though I have an identical issue with leakage from the sunroof. The exact problems that plagues other cars that were already given a recall. Instead of a recall, a TSB, was offered for my car but because it is not an actual recall, Audi will not pay for any repairs. From my online search, it looks like there was a class action lawsuit from a law firm called Milberg with my model included that was settled for extended the warranty of 8 years (2028) or 80k miles to repair the leaking sunroof. My car has a TSB and acknowledgment in the class action lawsuit that there was a faulty sunroof but because my car has 94k miles on it, Audi refuses to pay it. I believe that NHTSA needs to make an immediate recall for 2019 Audi E-tron for leaking sunroof because it is the same recall other cars have had with the same sunroof system installed, a class action lawsuit that offered payment for those not able to get the recall on their car, and Audi issuing a TSB because they know there is the same problem on my car. Audi keeps using the excuse that NHTSA didn't force them to make a recall on the 2019 Audi E-tron even though it suffers from the same problem as the other cars with the same sunroof system, so they are refusing to cover any costs to fix it.

A week later (this morning 2/29/2024) I was texted that they cannot perform the repair as they do not have cell balancer tool :( and this will take another two weeks. So while Audi indicates my vehicle is in imminent fire hazard, yet their dealers are not capable of repairing this issue, even though letter indicates repairs should be performed now. I am extremely concerned with the safety of the vehicle, passengers and my property while vehicle is parked on the driveway due to fire hazard. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with this model that I purchased after Thanksgiving. So far, I have no complaints! I've already put on 3700 miles and counting. I absolutely love how quiet it is and how responsive it feels - it reminds me of a go-cart, haha! Before purchasing, I was warned that EVs tend to suffer with mileage during the winter months. Currently, I am getting 180-200 miles on a 80%-100% charge, which is perfectly fine for me since I don't drive anywhere near 100 miles a day. I'm looking forward to getting even better mileage once it gets warmer!

Updated April 1, 2023 - upgraded to 4 stars from 2 stars. Audi has made some decent updates to the software which definitely improves the overall experience. Although it still does quirky things with CarPlay (random connect/disconnect, switch off radio and opens MyAudi app on your phone after connecting, etc.), it's still workable. Lane keep assist works differently depending on if you're using it with cruise control or not, which is a bit odd. Overall, I've really enjoyed the car. It rides great, is super economical, and has top quality interior materials. The adjustable suspension for firmness and ride height is a great feature, and it looks really good too. ---Original review: As an avid car enthusiast with over 40 cars and 25 years as a software professional, I wanted to get my first electric car. I test drove the Teslas and didn't like the way they drove or the build & material quality inside the vehicle. So I was excited about Audi, known for great build quality and good driving dynamics (not as good as BMW or Porsche IMO, but good). I got the Etron on a lease and I love the car itself, but the Audi customer support and electronics in the car are ruining the ownership experience. It's really bad. The car constantly asks you to log back in, the menus make no sense, requiring you to go into different areas for functions that should be related or under the same top menu. Stupid things like scanning radio stations take an extra step. There are no instructions on how to set your desired charging time, and there's overlap on rules that conflict with where you set those areas. My SiriusXM will sometimes not work, and Audi Wifi never works. Half the time, Apple CarPlay doesn't work (I have an Apple iPhone 12 Pro, latest version). Then you try calling Audi It looks like you're having trouble with the 2021 model and the phone support menu system is not working properly. We're here to help you find a solution to this issue. Please let us know how we can assist you further.

You made a great choice with the e-TRON prestige! The ride is incredibly comfortable and much smoother than a Tesla. While the range is less, it hasn't been an issue for me at all. I had the 240 installed in my garage and only need to charge once a week overnight. I highly recommend getting it now while you can still take advantage of the $7500 tax credit. It's exciting to see Audi, along with its sister brands VW and Porsche, making such a strong entrance into the EV market!

The E-tron is the perfect combination of Audi's craftsmanship and luxury with the future of EV automobiles. As an owner of the E-tron for almost a year now, I can confidently say that it is the best car I have ever owned. Unlike other EV's I test drove, the E-tron provides a comfortable and luxurious driving experience that you would expect from an Audi. It handles the road better than any gas guzzler and has more power than you would expect from an EV. Moving from a combustion engine-powered vehicle to an EV is an easy transition that will save you time and money. With the E-tron, Audi has undoubtedly created the best luxury EV on the market.

I tried out all the available EVs before deciding on the E-Tron and I'm really happy with my choice. It's a quiet, comfortable, and spacious car with plenty of great features. It's also pretty good-looking! The tech can be a bit quirky at times, with Apple Car Play sometimes connecting quickly and other times requiring a bit of button-pushing. It's worth noting that the car doesn't have AM radio, so if you listen to local news, you'll need to stream it through your phone. Make sure you have a good data plan! You can program the E-Tron to climatize for the next morning, but unfortunately, you can only set this for one day at a time. My previous car allowed me to set it for the whole workweek, so I do miss that feature. However, it's a small inconvenience and doesn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the car. I drive between 80-125 miles a day, and even with my previous hybrid, I had to visit the gas station twice a week. Now, I just plug in when I get home and let the solar panels on my roof do their thing. I haven't had to use a charger other than at home or work in the few months I've had the car, which is fantastic!Update 12/22/22: I've noticed stress marks on the plastic housing of both my mirrors for the second time. The first time this happened was after 8 months of ownership, and Audi initially didn't want to replace the mirrors. However, I persisted, and they eventually swapped them out. Unfortunately, the problem has now come back for a second time on the new mirrors. While Audi agrees that this pattern is not caused by outside forces, they have noticed it on other E-Trons and consider it to be a

This car has had some issues, including the driver's side charger connection not connecting even after being replaced, which requires inconvenient charging from the passenger side and prevents fast charging. Additionally, there have been constant issues with car play and MMI connectivity. While the battery only charges to a maximum of 140 in the winter, the dealer has assured me that this is not a problem. It is unfortunate that these issues are common with this car and Audi has not yet addressed them. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the right attention and care.

I have owned 5 different Audi/VW vehicles, including 2 EVs. The new VW ID4 has been great with no initial quality issues at 500 miles. However, my experience with the $105k Audi E Tron SUV has been less than ideal. While the minor paint issue was resolved after 3 separate visits, the MMI (Multi Media) has been a persistent problem. Despite the minimal maintenance required for EVs, I have had to take it in for service 4 times in the 14 months I have owned it. The Sirius XM and connection issue has been particularly frustrating, and even the Engineering Code did not help. I am disappointed that it has come to this, but I am considering other EV brands like MB or Lucid. On a positive note, the dealership has offered to repurchase the car after it spent 65+ days in the shop with no repair. Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up about Audi's repurchase offers. It's important to be careful because they may try to low-ball you and not cover all the costs, including collateral costs. It's definitely frustrating when you don't come out whole in the end and feel like you're getting screwed out of the equity you've built. In my experience, they paid me 38K for a car worth 56K and then resold it. It's not ideal, but just something to keep in mind!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to touch base with you about your 2021 E-tron. I noticed that you mentioned the battery range is supposed to be about 230+ miles, but you're only getting around 150 miles with an 80% charge. Have you considered adjusting the EV charging station settings? I'm happy to help you troubleshoot and find a solution that works best for you!

I've owned two Tesla S cars before this one, and while it drives like a heavier car, it sits on the road and rides smoothly. However, the car looks and feels like it was pieced together from different models rather than being a new build. It almost feels like you're getting a used car. I got this car in the middle of the pandemic because there were no other electric cars available right away, and my lease had run out. Although customer service was not great, I was able to resolve my issue after being on the phone for almost two hours. The reason for my call was that the navigation with live traffic went away after 6 months, and I just learned that they now charge for it. It's around $40 a month, and if you want their 5G, it's around $50+ a month. The one that came complimentary for the first 6 months was not very good. I was surprised that to have a useful navigation system, it would cost an additional $400-500 a year. In comparison, my BMW 5 series does not charge for the navigation system. Although the Tesla Model I have is around $75-80k and drives okay, I would not purchase this car again. However, I would recommend it to someone who is looking for an electric car and is willing to pay for the additional features.
