2010 Audi A4 problems
The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced since 1994 by the German car manufacturer Audi, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. The A4 has been built in five generations and is based on the Volkswagen Group B platform. The first generation A4 succeeded the Audi 80. The automaker's internal numbering treats the A4 as a continuation of the Audi 80 lineage, with the initial A4 designated as the B5-series, followed by the B6, B7, B8, and the B9.
The B8 and B9 versions of the A4 are built on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform shared with several models and brands across the Volkswagen Group. The Audi A4 automobile layout consists of a front-engine design, with transaxle-type transmissions mounted at the rear of the engine. The cars are front-wheel drive, or on some models, "quattro" all-wheel drive. The A4 is available as a sedan and station wagon. Historically, the second (B6) and third generations (B7) of the A4 also included a convertible version. For the fourth generation (B8) and onwards, the convertible, along with a new coupé and 5-door liftback variant, was spun-off by Audi into a new nameplate called the Audi A5.
B5 (Typ 8D; 1994)
The first generation Audi A4 (known internally as the Typ 8D) debuted in October 1994, with production starting November 1994 and European sales commencing in January 1995 for the 1995 model year. North American sales later began in September 1995 for the 1996 model year. It was built on the Volkswagen Group B5 (PL45) platform, which it shared with the fourth generation Volkswagen Passat (B5, Typ 3B). It had a front-mounted longitudinal engine and front-wheel drive. Many variations of the A4 were also available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system. The A4 was initially introduced as a four-door saloon/sedan; the Avant (estate/wagon) was introduced in November 1995 and went on sale in February 1996.
Development began in 1988, with the first design sketches being created later that year. By 1991, an exterior design by Imre Hasanic was chosen and frozen for November 1994 production by 1992. The interior design was later finalized in 1992, with pilot production commencing in the first half of 1994. Development concluded in the third quarter of 1994, preceding November 1994 start of production.
A wide range of engines were available in European markets, between 1.6 and 2.8 litres for petrol engines; and a 1.9-litre diesel engine available with Volkswagen Group's VE technology, capable of achieving a 90 PS (66 kW; 89 bhp) or 110 PS (81 kW; 108 bhp). The 2.6 and 2.8-litre V6 engines which had been carried over from the old 80/90 proved popular, although in North America, the 2.8-litre engine was the only V6 that was available there until 1997. A 2.4-liter version was developed especially for the Thai market, where import duty jumped from 60 to 100 percent on cars of over 2,400 cc displacement.
The Audi A4 was the first model in the Volkswagen Group to feature the new 1.8-litre 20v engine with five valves per cylinder, based on the unit Audi Sport had developed for their Supertouring race car. A turbocharged 1.8T version produced 150 PS (110 kW; 148 bhp) and 210 N⋅m (155 lb⋅ft) torque. Moreover, a quattro GmbH special edition of the B5 1.8T was later available in Germany and Europe, for which the engine's power output was raised to 180 PS (132 kW; 178 bhp) and 235 N⋅m (173 lb⋅ft). Five-valve technology was also added to a reengineered V6 family of engines in 1997, starting with the 2.8-litre V6 30v, which now produced 193 PS (142 kW; 190 bhp), followed by a 2.4-litre V6 which was a downsize from the previous 2.6 litre, 150 hp (112 kW) engine, but with a power increase to 165 PS (121 kW; 163 bhp).
Audi also debuted their new tiptronic automatic transmission on the B5 platform, based on the unit Porsche developed for their 964-generation 911. The transmission is a conventional automatic gearbox with a torque converter offering the driver a fully-automatic operation or manual selection of the gear ratios.
The B5 marked Audi's continued move into the midsize luxury car segment, having started this trajectory notably with later model years of the preceding Audi 80/90 B4. Despite initial mechanical problems, overall build and assembly quality were lauded both by the automotive press and within Audi and Volkswagen, and at the time, parent company Volkswagen declared the B5 the company-wide build quality benchmark for all its other models.

- Summary: This audi doesn’t have a dip stick that comes with the car. It burns 1-2 quarts of oil a month and doesn’t indicate when your car is low on oil. It’s a guessing game when the engine says put a quart of oil in and I needed 2 and a half quarts to be full. It’s such a saftey hazard I’m surprised audi hasn’t recalled this engine. I spent over $1000 to have everything resealed and fixed because it just ceased one day due to not having enough oil

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-04-21
- VIN: WAUFFAFL6AN
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: THE COIL SPRINGS BROKE ON THIS VEHICLE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN BY MY HUSBAND ON 7/24/19. THE LEFT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE I WAS TURNING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ON 4/21/20. THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 81,000 MILES, BUT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I AM CAREFUL TO AVOID POT HOLES WHILE DRIVING, SO I DON'T BELIEVE THE CAUSE IS DUE TO MY DRIVING HABITS. THE PHOTO I HAVE PROVIDED SHOWS THE BREAK IS NOT DUE TO RUST. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED WITH ANY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE DRIVEN IN THE 50+ YEARS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING . MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT A BROKEN COIL SPRING IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT PARTICULARLY IF IT PUNCTURES A TIRE WHILE DRIVING. MY SUSPICION IS THAT THE COIL SPRINGS ARE DEFECTIVE GIVEN THAT THE BREAKS OCCURRED WITH 2 DIFFERENT COIL SPRINGS. SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, I CHOSE TO REPLACE ALL THE COIL SPRINGS IN THE CAR BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY. I UNDERSTAND THAT VOLKSWAGON, OF WHICH AUDI IS A PART OF, RECALLED OVER 56,000 VEHICLES LAST YEAR DUE TO DEFECTIVE COIL SPRINGS. HOWEVER, I CANNOT FIND ANY INFORMATION REGARDING A RECALL FOR AUDI COIL SPRINGS.

- Summary: I BOUGHT THE CAR 2 DAYS AGO AND ON THE WAY BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP I'D ALREADY HAD TO ADD A QUART OF OIL, 2 DAYS LATER AFTER REFILLING AND I'M BASICALLY BACK TO ZERO ON OIL. I DON'T DRIVE MUCH SO THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS MUCH HIGHER THAN IT SHOULD BE, I'VE DRIVEN MAYBE 400 MILES AND I'VE HAD TO ADD OIL TWICE. My initial observation is that this vehicle is built with the highest quality standards and materials. I understand that some people have complained about the steering wheel not returning to center when coming out of a turn, but I believe this simply takes some getting used to. On the first tank of gas, I achieved 32 MPG combined, which is better than the suggested 27 MPG Hwy. The abundance of buttons and gadgets gives the feeling that you are truly sitting in the cockpit of an airplane. This was another complaint of Edmunds, but I see this as an awesome feature. The performance is outstanding, and lots of heads turn when I drive by. The build quality is a cut above my Infiniti FX35, but I enjoy both vehicles. The handling is outstanding!

I was given this car as a loaner while my 06 A4 was being repaired. Although my older A4 was broken, I still prefer it ten times over this new model. The CVT hesitation is absolutely unbearable! If you're considering buying the front-wheel-drive car with the CVT, I would advise against it. The new A4 redesign is nice, but I actually think that the old A4 was prettier and more engaging. This new one just feels similar to a Lexus, with less reliability. You feel disconnected from the road, and in a German car, that is not a good thing since that is the whole reason you buy one.

I purchased the car a month ago and I absolutely love it. I often take it for a ride on weekends just for the sheer pleasure of it. The car has a Start button, which is amazing, along with an Advance key and a SideAssist, which are both very useful. This is the kind of car that you grow to love more and more over time, something you really need to experience to appreciate fully. Everywhere you go, people will take notice of you. Driving the car on highways is an absolute pleasure, as the car loves speed. The only downside is that it can be expensive with options, but it's worth every penny.

I was considering getting the new Maxima, but decided to stop by Audi on a whim. I also checked out the 328xi, TL, G37x, and TSX. The BMW was great, but it was over $100 more per month. I loved the old TL, but the new one felt way too large. I test drove the TSX with the 4 cylinder, but it was too slow for my liking. I preferred the 6 cylinder, but it was a $5k option, bringing the total to nearly 40k. As soon as I test drove the A4 quattro, I was hooked. The interior was far superior to the other vehicles. The new Maxima had good acceleration, but it still felt really cheap. I liked the G, but it was over $75 more per month. The 6-speed manual was fantastic - easy to use with short throws. I can't wait to try the quattro in winter.

I checked out some of the usual competitors like the Lexus IS, Infiniti G35, BMW 3 series, and even a Nissan Maxima. Although I wasn't a fan of the MMI system during my test drive, I found it easy to use after just one day and now I absolutely love it! The car strikes the perfect balance between performance and luxury. It's spacious enough to accommodate my larger friends, yet stylish enough to turn heads as I drive by. Whether you're a family person or a bachelor, this car is a great choice.

I purchased my car as certified pre-owned in 2011 with only 13k miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with it over the years. The oil light kept coming on before 20k miles, and the dealer initially said it was normal for a turbo engine to use a lot of oil. However, when we had to start putting in a quart or more of oil every 1000 miles, we took it back to the dealer. It took a while, but they eventually had to rebuild the top half of the engine. While the car was just out of warranty, the timing chain tensioner failed, which was a known issue. Despite this, the Audi dealership didn't offer any discounts on the repair quote. We were able to get the work done for a lower price at a third-party shop. Although there have been some issues with the ignition coils, random lights, and fuel pump, we are still trying to get the car fixed. While it has been frustrating, we are doing our best to keep it running since it is paid off. Overall, I have had some challenges with this car, but I am hopeful that we can get it back to running smoothly soon.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2010 Audi A4 Premium Quattro sedan. When I first purchased it as an Audi Certified dealer demo with extended warranty and only 4,000 miles, I was absolutely in love with it! Unfortunately, I did run into a few issues down the line. At 24,000 miles, I had to replace the tires due to a loud humming noise. Then at 40,000 miles, I had to replace the brakes. At 43,000 miles, the turbo failed and at 45,000 miles, the cylinders had to be replaced to address an oil consumption issue. Thankfully, everything except for the brakes was covered under warranty. However, at 90,000 miles on Dec. 31, 2020, the timing belt jumped and caused significant damage to the engine. The dealer estimated that it would cost $10,000 to replace the engine, which was unfortunately not feasible for me. I ultimately decided to walk away and the dealer gave me $1000. I ended up leasing a Chevy instead. While I did have some issues with my Audi, I'm grateful for the time that I had with it. Thank you for listening to my story!

The CVT didn't feel as responsive as we expected. Although the car was tastefully designed, the radio was difficult to use. I really liked the exterior design, but I felt that the car was overpriced with a CVT.
Kurtis Schulist 2024-07-23
The car has had several issues and required multiple expensive repairs. Unfortunately, the Audi dealership in Raleigh has not been helpful in resolving these issues. In contrast, we have had a much better experience with Lexus when bringing in our cars.

The 2010 A4 with A/T has some areas that could be improved. The steering is too light and does not return to neutral after a turn at normal speed, which can require more attention and correction from the driver. Additionally, the fuel economy is not ideal, with only 21MPG for 70% highway and 30% light local driving. However, the acceleration is acceptable. The controls may also be considered unfriendly and complicated to use. Overall, there are some areas for improvement, but the 2010 A4 with A/T still has its strengths.
