2022 Audi A3 problems
The Audi A3 is a subcompact executive/small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi AG since September 1996, currently in its fourth generation.
The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
First generation (Typ 8L; 1996)
The original A3 (or Type 8L) was announced back in June 1995, but introduced first in the European market for more than year in September 1996, marking Audi's return to the production of smaller cars following the demise of the Audi 50 in 1978. This was the first Volkswagen Group model to use the "PQ34" or "A4" platform, bearing a close resemblance to the contemporary Volkswagen Golf Mk4, which arrived a year later. Within three years, this platform was used for total of seven cars.
The A3 was initially available only with a three-door hatchback body, to present a more sporty image than the Golf, in both front and four-wheel drive. The inline four-cylinder engines were transversely mounted. The Audi A3 was the eighth model in the Audi lineup to use five valves per cylinder. The dashboard was also used by the first generation SEAT León and second generation SEAT Toledo.
The United Kingdom market first received the Audi A3 in November 1996.
In 1999 Audi expanded the range with the introduction of more powerful versions: a 1.8 turbo rated 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp), and a 1.9 TDI diesel engine with unit injector "Pumpe Düse" (PD) technology and variable geometry turbocharger. The four-wheel-drive A3 1.8T quattro used either the 150 PS (110 kW; 148 hp) or 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) engine, and the same Haldex Traction-based four-wheel-drive system as the Audi S3 and the Audi TT. Also in 1999, Audi also introduced a five-door body.
In late 2000 the A3 range was revised with new headlights and rear lamps, other minor cosmetic changes, an improved interior, and the introduction of a six-speed manual gearbox, on the 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) 1.8 Turbo and the new 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) 1.9 TDI.
Audi's electronic stability control, traction-control, and brake force distribution computer became standard equipment in some countries.
Although the first-generation Audi A3 was replaced in Europe in 2003, the first generation model continued to be sold in some markets. Production of the first generation model stopped in Brazil in 2006.

Common 2022 Audi A3 problems
The Audi A3 is a popular compact luxury car, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most reported issues with the 2022 Audi A3, based on complaints from owners:
- Engine Problems: The most-reported problem with the 2015 Audi A3 is excessive oil consumption, which can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly. The average cost to fix this issue is $7,200, with problems occurring at an average mileage of 26,000 miles.
- Gearbox Problems: DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) gearboxes, which are commonly used in Audi A3s, can develop faults if service intervals are not adhered to. These gearboxes rely on clean oil to function properly, and if the recommended interval of 40,000 miles is not followed, problems can arise. However, if regular maintenance is performed, DSG gearboxes can offer fast gear changes and efficiency comparable to manual transmissions.
- Oil Pump Drive Failure: Certain diesel-engined Audi A3s have experienced a fault with the oil pump, where the drive shaft wears excessively. This can lead to poor pump performance and low oil pressure, which can cause engine damage if not addressed promptly. This issue has been identified in Volkswagen Audi group products and is a common problem with the front wings, which tend to rust prematurely.
- Rear Camera and Automatic Parallel Parking Issues: Some Audi A3 owners have reported issues with the rear camera and automatic parallel parking feature. In one case, the rear camera stopped working, which prevented the automatic parallel parking feature from functioning. This issue occurred after approximately 8000 miles and six months of ownership, and the dealership was unable to repair it for four months. This is a safety concern, as a backup camera has been mandatory equipment on new cars since 2018 in the USA.
- Squeaks and Rattles: Several Audi A3 owners have reported squeaks and rattles from the outset, particularly from the rear passenger door. This can be a frustrating issue, as dealerships may have difficulty replicating the problem in a low-speed, smooth area. However, if the issue persists, it may be covered under warranty.
In summary, the 2022 Audi A3 has several common problems, including engine issues, gearbox problems, oil pump drive failure, rear camera and automatic parallel parking issues, and squeaks and rattles. While these issues can be frustrating for owners, regular maintenance and adherence to service intervals can help prevent many of these problems from occurring.

The 2022 Audi A3 is the perfect balance of power, handling, ride, tech and efficiency I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning and I’ve been driving since 1973. The mild hybrid system combined with the smoothest start/stop system I’ve ever driven has allowed me to far exceed the EPA highway mileage, routinely hitting 42 mpg on trips from Connecticut to NYC. The ability to coast down hills with the engine off is a hyper milers dream come true. The 201 SHP is more than adequate and the compliant ride, comfortable seats and precise handling make it a joy to drive. This car should definitely be on your list.

This is my first introduction to a luxury sedan, and I'm loving it! I've driven 10,000 km in the 3 months since I've owned it, and it's been so much fun to drive and fuel efficient. While the trunk is a bit small, the easy fold-down seats allow me to carry a lot more. The engine has a serious power kick, and the seats are super comfy. The controls and touch screen are also within easy reach, making for a great driving experience overall!

I must say, I love my car! Originally, we went in looking for an Audi A5, but when we were shown this car, we fell in love with it. It drives so smoothly, and I adore all the bells and whistles, especially the wireless charger.

In less than 12 months and under 14k miles, the gearbox needed complete replacement. Unfortunately, this required multiple visits because the service department at Audi was not able to diagnose the issue right away. The car also had a code coming up for 2 months until the service department addressed it. Tires wear down quickly (around 20k miles), but they are affordable to replace. CarPlay integration could be improved. Although my fully equipped AWD A3 was not what I expected, I still appreciate the car's features. I believe that Audi has room for improvement in terms of service, but I am hopeful that they will continue to improve. While I may consider a reliable Toyota in the future, I still appreciate my Audi A3.

I had a few issues with my 2022 Audi A3, but I was able to find a dealer to do the repair. The batteries on both key fobs went out sooner than expected, but with a little effort, I was able to replace them. The front driver's seat is a bit difficult to get in and out of, especially for taller people like myself, and the back seat is quite small. However, the car has good gas mileage and reasonable acceleration. The interface between Apple Car Play and the display can be challenging at times, but overall it's a nice car to drive.According to Consumer's Reports, this car was recommended and sold at MSRP, while other makes were charging $4000-6000 markups. If I had to do it over again, I would have paid the markup and purchased another Acura. Unfortunately, despite putting $10,000 down, I have negative equity. I have come to dislike the shift lever, which is like a window control and easy to inadvertently brush and go into neutral. The glove box is also difficult to use, as everything needs to be arranged perfectly for it to close. Although the ride is stiff and doesn't feel sporty, the gas mileage and acceleration are impressive. However, the leather feels fake, and people often ask me what the material is. I'm not even sure if it's real leather. I'm a bit apprehensive about the cost of the first service and worried that I'll have to stay in a hotel for two days while I wait. This is my first non-Japanese car since a terrible experience with a VW Rabbit in 1982, after nine years with a Super Beetle. At some point, I'll have to accept the loss and get rid of this car. In fact, I've even left retirement and started working again so that I can afford to do so.
