2009 Aston martin Db9 problems

The Aston Martin DB9 is a two-door grand touring car produced by the British automaker Aston Martin. The car was produced between 2004 and 2016 and was available as a coupe and the Volante convertible.

The designers Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker styled the DB9, both of whom also worked on its descendant, the 2005 Vantage. The DB9 serves as the successor to the DB7, which Aston Martin produced from 1994 until 2004. The DB9 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003, and its convertible counterpart, the Volante, debuted at the same motor show in the subsequent year. It was produced in Gaydon, a Warwickshire village where Aston Martin's main production facility lies. The company built the DB9's chassis upon the vertical/horizontal platform, which employed extensive use of aluminium throughout the body; it also resulted in a significant weight loss compared to its predecessor.

Aston Martin implemented several incremental updates to the DB9, termed "facelifts". The first two updates, in 2008 and 2010, involved minor changes to the headlights, tail-lights, engine and interior. The most noteworthy update occurred in 2013 when Aston Martin introduced a completely redesigned front fascia for the DB9. The headlights were the most significant update, which gave the DB9 a design reminiscent of the 2011–2012 Virage.

The company's racing division, Aston Martin Racing, adapted the DB9 for sports car racing in the form of the DBR9 and the DBRS9 for the FIA GT1 and the FIA GT3, respectively. These cars are extensively modified DB9 models adapted for motorsport; the interior features were removed, and the aluminium body panels were replaced by carbon fibre panels. The engine was modified in both cars to produce more horsepower and torque.

Common 2009 Aston martin Db9 problems

The Aston Martin DB9, produced from 2004 to 2016, is a luxurious and powerful grand tourer known for its V12 engine and striking design. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported.

One of the most frequent issues with the DB9 is related to the engine, with coolant leaks being a significant concern. These leaks can result from problems with the coolant hoses or the radiator, potentially leading to engine overheating and causing more severe damage if not addressed promptly.

The electrical system in the DB9 has also been a source of issues. Electrical gremlins, such as faulty tire pressure gauges and malfunctioning Linn stereos, have been reported by some owners. In some cases, the engine management light may come on for no apparent reason, indicating potential issues with the engine or transmission.

Suspension problems have also been reported in certain DB9 models. For example, the front lower control arm may crack, leading to a loss of steering control and an increased risk of crash.

Interior fit and finish have been a concern for some DB9 owners, with numerous squeaks and rattles developing over time. The car's nose is also prone to stone chipping, which, if not properly repaired, can lead to corrosion. Accident damage can be expensive due to the specialized materials used in many body panels.

Regular maintenance and inspections are crucial for identifying and preventing these issues, ensuring the longevity and safety of the vehicle. If you're considering purchasing a DB9, it's essential to be aware of these common problems and consider the costs of potential repairs and maintenance.

What is the electrical problem with the Aston Martin DB9?

Electrical Issues

The issues have affected all Aston Martin models, from the entry-level DB9 to the flagship Vanquish. Common problems include faulty battery sensors, melting fuse boxes, and faulty door locks. Aston Martin has issued several recalls for these issues, but the problems continue to persist.

Is DB9 a good car?

The DB9 was a big step forward over the Jaguar XJS-based DB7 in terms of reliability, and reported problems with the engine, gearbox or ancillaries are long gone. Because the DB9 is based on tried-and-tested mechanicals, any teething troubles will have been ironed out.

Are Aston Martins high maintenance?

The cost of maintaining an Aston Martin can be quite high compared to other brands in its class. This is primarily because the company uses high-end materials and advanced technology in its vehicles, which can result in higher repair bills.

Is a 2006 Aston Martin DB9 reliable?

Owns this car

I had to own one of these because I think it's the most beautiful designed car ever made. I can just stare at it all day long but driving it is just as much fun. After two years of ownership I've had zero problems and just pure enjoyment.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-12-01
  • VIN: SCFAB01E89G
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: THE CAR STALLED AT A FEW MPH AND WOULD NOT RESTART FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THIS HAD HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE. THE INSTRUMENTATION LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO PALM BEACH MOTORS. THE COMPUTER DID NOT SHOW A FAULT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT. THEY REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE AND WOULD NOT TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTION, EVEN THOUGH I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH ASTON MARTIN, WHO ASKED QUESTIONS THAT INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS ISSUE, BUT HE WOULD NOT DIRECT PALM BEACH ASTON MARTIN TO TAKE ANY ACTION. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY STREET IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE SELLING DEALER EVENTUAL BOUGHT THE CAR BACK. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THE INTERNET MANY TIMES. UNLESS THIS ISSUE IS UNDERSTOOD AND RECTIFIED, THIS CAR AND PROBABLY OTHER ASTON MARTINS ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-07-01
  • VIN: SCFAD01E79G
  • Components: PARKING BRAKE
  • Summary: I HAD MY 2009 DB9 ASTON MARTIN PARKED AT THE TOP OF MY DRIVEWAY WHILE RETRIEVING MY MAIL. AS I WALKED BACK TO THE CAR (VERY SHORT DISTANCE) IT BEGAN ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. I WATCHED AS IT ROLLED OFF THE PAVED AREA &DOWN A RAVINE CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE PARKING LITE WAS CLEARLY LIT AFTER THE CRASH. MY SON TOOK PICTURES. ASTON MARTIN WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ACCIDENT SAYING I DIDN`T HAVE IT IN PARK. I MOST CERTAINLY DID HAVE IT IN PARK BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT GET OUT OF ANY CAR ON MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT IT BEING IN PARK. I SOLD THE CAR WITHOUT REPAIRING IT & THE INSURANCE COMPANY PAID ME FOR THE CAR. I OF COURSE HAD TO PAY MY 5000 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE. I LOST MONEY TRYING TO HIRE A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR WHO KEPT THE CAR 3 MONTHS & NEVER LOOKED AT IT. HE WAS CHARGING ME STORAGE FEES + NUMEROUS OTHER THINGS THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I WROTE LETTERS TO ASTON MARTIN OF NORTH AMERICA & ALSO THE OWNER IN ENGLAND. THE RESPONSE WAS SMALL ONLY SAYING THEY WEREN'T RESPONSIBLE...I NEVER HEARD FROM ENGLAND.. APPARENTLY THIS "PARKING ISSUE" WAS A PROBLEM IN 05 & 06 . THEY CLAIM TO HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM HOWEVER I`M HERE TO TELL YOU THEY DIDN'T. IT SHOULD 'NEVER" BE THIS DIFFICULT TO PROVE THIS KIND OF THING. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THEY COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN. JUST LIKE TOYOTA TOO MANY PEOPLE WERE SERIOUSLY HURT BEFORE ANYTHING GOT DONE. UNFORTUNATELY IT SEEMS THAT IT TAKES CONTACTING YOU PEOPLE TO MAKE THESE MANUFACTURES OWN-UP TO THEIR ERRORS & MAKE THINGS RIGHT.. *TR

Positive 2009 Aston martin Db9 car reviews

  1. Scot Schmidt 2025-01-09

Aston Martins have always had a special place in my heart, ever since I first saw the iconic DB5 in Goldfinger and caught a glimpse of an Astin Martin Lagonda back in the 80s. The DB9 was my ultimate dream car, and it took me a good 2-3 weeks to fully appreciate just how splendid it was to drive. Words like sexy, elegant, powerful, responsive, distinctive, and manly only begin to describe this amazing car.

  2. Fidel Torphy 2024-10-20

Hi there! Your machine is absolutely exquisite!

  3. Tom Mills 2024-08-02

I always wanted an Aston but wasn't sure of the build quality. When I walked into the showroom, the salesman urged me to just drive one and I was sold. I could feel this was a solid car and I was right. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned, and I have owned several exotics. It is also the biggest head turner anywhere. The fit and finish are superb, and the engine is amazing. The wood grain is perfect, and the leather is the finest. Don't even think of comparing this in any way to the much lesser poser car, the Vantage - the DB9 is a true Aston. If you can afford it, buy it - you will be glad you did!

  4. Monserrate Kub 2024-07-29

I was driving an '03 SL500 Sport. I had ordered this silver beauty 1.5 years before they started arriving. It's a really nice car, but in North Dallas, I passed 13 SL's in just 2.5 miles to work...and 8 of them were silver. So, I decided to go for an Aston Martin, as it's a little more of an 'independent' make. I thought the beautiful but classic styling might blend in without causing the over-the-top hoopla of a Ferrari or Lambo. However, I was wrong. Everywhere I go, people comment on it. I rarely use the 900watt+ stereo because I'm hooked on the sound of the engine! It's hard to stay within the speed limit with this car. It demands that you remain engaged in your driving, even if you're just going to the closest 7-11. So far, so good!

  5. Steve Powlowski 2024-07-24

Photos don’t do it justice. The exterior style is absolutely gorgeous, and the interior is just as rich with its leather, metal, and wood finishes. But the real treat is the sound of the V12 when the exhaust valves bark open at around 3500 rpm. This isn't just a hard-edged sports car, it's a proper and mature GT for the discerning gentleman or woman who appreciates the finest in effortless motoring.
