The Aston Martin DB9 is a two-door grand touring car produced by the British automaker Aston Martin. The car was produced between 2004 and 2016 and was available as a coupe and the Volante convertible.

The designers Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker styled the DB9, both of whom also worked on its descendant, the 2005 Vantage. The DB9 serves as the successor to the DB7, which Aston Martin produced from 1994 until 2004. The DB9 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003, and its convertible counterpart, the Volante, debuted at the same motor show in the subsequent year. It was produced in Gaydon, a Warwickshire village where Aston Martin's main production facility lies. The company built the DB9's chassis upon the vertical/horizontal platform, which employed extensive use of aluminium throughout the body; it also resulted in a significant weight loss compared to its predecessor.

Aston Martin implemented several incremental updates to the DB9, termed "facelifts". The first two updates, in 2008 and 2010, involved minor changes to the headlights, tail-lights, engine and interior. The most noteworthy update occurred in 2013 when Aston Martin introduced a completely redesigned front fascia for the DB9. The headlights were the most significant update, which gave the DB9 a design reminiscent of the 2011–2012 Virage.

The company's racing division, Aston Martin Racing, adapted the DB9 for sports car racing in the form of the DBR9 and the DBRS9 for the FIA GT1 and the FIA GT3, respectively. These cars are extensively modified DB9 models adapted for motorsport; the interior features were removed, and the aluminium body panels were replaced by carbon fibre panels. The engine was modified in both cars to produce more horsepower and torque.

Common Aston martin Db9 2007 problems

The Aston Martin DB9, introduced in 2004, has been praised for its powerful V12 engine, sleek design, and luxurious interior. However, the model has also been known to have some common problems and reliability issues, particularly in the areas of general build quality, electrical systems, and engine and transmission issues.

  • General Build Quality: Many owners have reported issues with the fit and finish of the interior, with numerous squeaks and rattles developing over time.
  • Electrical Systems: The Aston Martin DB9 has been known to have electrical gremlins, such as faulty tire pressure gauges and malfunctioning Linn stereos. These issues can lead to expensive repairs and replacements.
  • Engine and Transmission: The DB9's V12 engine, while generally reliable, has been known to have issues with the engine management light coming on for no apparent reason.
  • Heavy Oil Consumption: The DB9 is known for having a heavy oil consumption issue. If the oil is left to drop very low, it can result in engine damage. Regular checks on the oil levels and topping up when necessary are crucial to prevent engine rattling noises caused by damaged parts such as the crankshaft, big end bearings, or tappets.
  • Water Leaking into the Boot: A common fault on the DB9 is water leaking into the boot, which is most likely caused by a faulty seal on the brake light. This issue can damage the carpets and potentially affect any electrics in the area. Replacing the brake light seal and drying out the carpets are necessary to fix the problem.
  • Air Filter Issues: A known issue with the DB9's air filters becoming covered in oil is caused by a failure of the PCV valves. A pipe that runs up the back, between the bulkhead and the engine, splits, causing oil to enter the air intake system. Replacing the broken pipe, changing the air filter, and topping up the engine oil are required to resolve this issue.

In conclusion, while the Aston Martin DB9 offers a luxurious and powerful driving experience, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of these common problems and reliability issues. Regular maintenance, servicing, and using Aston Martin-approved parts can help prevent or mitigate some of these issues.

NO PROBLEM NOTED, NEXT MORNING START THE CAR, DROVE 1.5 MILES TURNED RIGHT ONTO SANTIAGO CANYON ROAD IN ORANGE COUNTY CALIF. FROM MODJESKA CANYON ROAD, MILDY ACCELLERATED TO 45 MPH AND THE HOOD FLEW STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR. CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN 70 MPH ON THE WAY HOME. THE HOOD LATCH FAILED AND THE SAFETY CATCH DID NOT ENGAGE THE HOOD. FOUND TO BE STUCK. I WAS ON A TWO LANE RODE WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AND NOT HIT ANYTHING. VISIBILITY PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-07-29
  • VIN: SCFAB01A37G
  • Components: VISIBILITY
  • Summary: SINCE JULY 2010 I HAD COMPLAINTS ABOUT AN INTERMITTENT RATTLE NEAR THE DRIVERS OUTSIDE MIRROR. I MADE AT LEAST TEN TRIPS TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND NOTHING SEEMED TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. DURING THE LAST TIME THE DOOR PANEL WAS REMOVED, ANOTHER FIX MADE AND A SUBSEQUENT ROAD TEST, THE NOISE WAS HEARD BY THE DEALERS MECHANIC. AFTER TIGHTENING SOME BOLTS WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT FENDER NEAR THE A PILLAR WAS LOOSE, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. DURING THE PROCESS OF REMOVING THIS WINDSHIELD, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS NEVER INSTALLED PROPERLY AT THE ASTON MARTIN FACTORY IN GAYDON, UK. THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT "PRIMER" APPLIED AND THIS MAJOR STRUCTURAL AND SAFETY COMPONENT WAS LITERALLY MOVING AROUND IN IT'S FRAME. SINCE THE NEW WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN INSTALLED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FEELS AND SOUNDS MUCH TIGHTER. AFTER THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED PROPERLY, I ATTEMPTED TO SECURE SOME FORM OF RESTITUTION FROM ASTON MARTIN FOR ALL OF MY FRUSTRATIONS AN INCONVENIENCE WITH THIS ISSUE IN THE FORM OF NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AS THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE NOTORIOUS FOR ALMOST CONSTANTLY SQUEALING. TO DATE, THEY HAVE NOT AGREED TO DO THIS, STATING "TO BE HONEST, I DON'T SEE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN A RATTLE AND REPLACING NORMAL WEAR ITEMS ON YOUR CAR." THIS REPLY WAS RECEIVED FROM ASTON MARTIN'S NORTH AMERICAN REP. I RECEIVED BASICALLY THE SAME CAVALIER AND ARROGANT RESPONSES FROM THE UK. NOT ONCE IN ANY OF THEIR REPLIES TO ME DID THEY EVER USE THE WORD "WINDSHIELD", APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE, LET ALONE SHOW EVEN THE SLIGHTEST CONCERN THAT MY WELL BEING WAS IN DANGER EVERY TIME THAT I TOOK THIS CAR OUT ON THE ROADS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO THE ILLINOIS ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE BEYOND CONFIRMATION OF RECEIPT OF MY COMPLAINT. *TR

  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • VIN: SCFBB03B97G
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: ALL THE TIME WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR SPACEY WHEN I ACCELERATE THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF FUMES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY AGREE THAT THERE IS A STRONG SMELL BUT THEY SAY ITS THE CLUTCH AND THERE IS NOTHING TO DO ABOUT IT . IN THOSE CAR THAT'S THE SMELL. I TOLD THEM THAT IN SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR FIRST I DON'T SUPPOSE TO HAVE SUCH A STRONG SMELL IN THE CAR AND SECOND EVEN IF IT FROM THE CLUTCH AS THEY SAY ITS NOT THE ONLY SMELL I FELT OF STRONG FUMES AND BURNING. UNTIL TODAY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO FAULT FROM THEIR SIDE. SMELL COMES WHEN I ACCELERATE , WHEN I REVERSED AND EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE DRIVING WITH NO REASON . SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I BECOME SICK , DOCTORS COULDN'T BE SURE OF THE REASON AND I DIDN'T RELATED IT TO THE CAR UNTIL I HAVE BEEN ON THE ER AFTER ITS OCCUR AND I COULDN'T BREATH AND HAD STRONG CHEST PAIN AND DIZZY. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2007-08-20
  • VIN: SCFAD01A37G
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: I BOUGHT AN ASTON MARTIN DB9 FROM BAUER JAGUAR/ ASTON MARTIN (1455 S. AUTO MALL DR, SANTA ANA, CA 92705) ON JULY 7 2007. THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR INTERSECTION IN LOS ANGELES ON AUGUST 17, 2007 (2,319 MILES). DEALER COMPLETED THE REPAIRS AND RETURNED THE CAR ON AUGUST 20, 2007. THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND WAS BROUGHT BACK ON MARCH 31, 2008 FOR MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. AT THIS TIME THE DEALER RECOMMEND A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND REPAIRS COMPLETED ON APRIL 11, 2008. I HAVE SEND 3 EMAILS TO ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA FACTORY (SCOTT MORGAN, AFTER SALES MANAGER ASTON MARTIN, DR, U BEZ CEO OF ASTON MARTIN) AND THE GENERAL MANGER OF BAUER JAGUAR/ASTON MARTIN (JAMES PEACOCK) ASKING THEM TO BUY BACK THIS CAR AND THEY ARE TAKING THE POSITION THAT ALL THE REPAIRS ARE DONE AND THAT I CAN PICK UP MY CAR. THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP AND I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DRIVE IT CAUSE: 1-I FEEL THE CAR IS NOT SAFE AND/OR RELIABLE 2-THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT HAS SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED THE MARKET VALUE OF THIS CAR. *TR

I have owned most high end cars from Maserati Gransports, 911 Turbo, M5, M3, M6, CLS63 AMG Benz, and many others, some twice. However, this car is in a class of its own. At 150 mph, you feel confident that it could easily handle 200 mph! Unfortunately, this is not legal in the states!

  2. Evert Breitenberg 2024-08-13

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my meteor grey DB9. I've had it for 6 months now and I must say, it's been an excellent automobile. Not only is it fast and corners extremely well, but it's also a real head turner. While it may not be quite as fast as some super cars, it's definitely more comfortable and a joy to drive on long trips. Oh, and did I mention that you also get a great deal of attention? Thanks for listening!

  3. Michel Schmidt 2024-08-12

We preordered the 05 DB-9, auto-tran so my wife can drive it. I was a bit skeptical about ordering an Aston Martin after their merger with Ford a year or so back and losing their designer to Jaguar. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Aston Martin has not lost their edge. As soon as I started the car after its initial delivery, it purred so solidly (the only way to describe it). There was no way to describe the feeling of getting in the car and whisking away, becoming the center of attention on the mediocre streets of reality. This car let loose effortlessly as I took off, tearing up the onramp going from 0-80 in only a few seconds.

  4. Brady Cole 2024-07-25

It sounds like you're really enjoying your car! It's great to hear that it's fun to drive even on longer distances. I also appreciate that it's a bit of a head turner and not as common as a Ferrari. The convertible option must be a real treat, especially after having a DB7. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the car!

  5. Kristofer Goyette 2024-07-24

I've had my 2006 since 2000 and, other than one battery change, I haven't had any mechanical issues. It's a custom-crafted jewel!
