The Volvo XC40 is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV (C-segment) manufactured by Volvo Cars. It was unveiled on 21 September 2017 as the smallest SUV model from Volvo, below the XC60. Orders started in September 2017, and manufacturing began in November 2017.
Aside with conventional petrol and diesel engines, a plug-in hybrid model was introduced in 2019, and a battery electric vehicle model was released in 2020. Both the plug-in hybrid and the battery electric versions were marketed as the XC40 Recharge. In 2024, Volvo renamed the battery electric XC40 to the Volvo EX40, aligning it with newer battery electric models such as the EX30 and the EX90.
A coupe version of the battery electric model with a sloping rear roof was released in 2021 as the C40 Recharge. It was renamed to the Volvo EC40 since 2024.
The XC40 was given the European Car of the Year Award at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. and the car was named Car of the Year Japan for 2018/2019.

- Consequence: The false warning message could prevent the detection of an actual e-call system failure, which could delay an emergency response during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

This little car has an amazing amount of safety technology for the price. Some things do require an extra package, but many other cars in this price range don’t even have similar options. The engine has a wow factor too; it will push you into the seat a bit. The upgraded stereo is also worth doing if you can. Update: I'm still loving it!

This car is awesome! It has unbelievable features, great power, and a comfortable ride. What more could you want? While it gets an average score for reliability, I haven't had the car long enough to comment on that. So far, it seems to be one of the best cars I've owned.

Great car! I'm so happy with it. If I had to suggest an improvement, I would say adding leather seats would make it even better. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

I really appreciate the smooth and quiet driving experience. The Google system in the vehicle is also impressive. So far, I haven't come across anything that I dislike, but we've only driven it for less than 500 miles.

The car is beautifully designed and very comfortable to drive and sit in. The safety features are amazing and the technology is really advanced for an entry level SUV.

The infotainment system, navigation, and weather app have room for improvement. Safety features could also benefit from further development. The petrol version's fuel economy is not as efficient as expected. Comfort and visibility are average. Overall, there is potential for improvement in various areas. However, I will be returning to BMW once my lease is up.

The car is comfortable to drive, but I have had some issues with the technology. Unfortunately, the system is not intuitive at all and it can be frustrating to use. The salesman suggested using an iPhone for navigation, but even that is not ideal. I have also been receiving faulty car warnings. Overall, I am disappointed with the technology and considering getting rid of the car this year. It's a shame, really.

There are three trim models and two engine options. I chose the R-Design trim with the T4 engine because I wasn't very familiar with Volvo. The exterior has a classy look, but the interior is boxy and not very tech-forward. While some may compare the XC40 to luxury brands like BMW, Audi, and Benz, it's really more in line with Mazda and Subaru. Although it's marketed as a luxury brand, it doesn't quite live up to that expectation. The drive can feel a bit flimsy and the speed may not be adequate for some, but it's still a solid choice for those looking for a reliable SUV. The T4 engine may not be the most powerful, taking 8 seconds to go from 0-60, but it's still a decent option. While I personally prefer my Mazda CX5 Grand Touring for its sporty feel and better equipment, the XC40 is still a great choice for those looking for a reliable SUV. If you're looking for a luxury brand, you may want to consider something like the BMW X1, but if you're looking for a solid SUV, the XC40 is definitely worth considering.

Over my fifty-plus years of driving and 80-plus owned cars and trucks, I can confidently say that this Geely car has been the worst experience I have ever had. It is important to note that this is not a Volvo, and therefore, it should not be expected to conform to Volvo's standards. However, safety should always be a top priority, and I am pleased to say that this car meets all safety standards. The Care Key is a unique feature that comes with the car, and it is set at either 110km or 120km from the factory. While it may take some getting used to, it is an excellent safety feature that ensures that drivers do not exceed the speed limit. The dealership and Volvo have been very helpful in explaining this feature to me, and I appreciate their honesty and transparency. The car handles well, and I have not experienced any issues with the electronics. The online manual is a great resource that has helped me to understand the car better. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, and I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and safe vehicle.I will soon be able to buy a decent car and get rid of this old one. No more feeling embarrassed when driving around town. I am confident that my financial situation will improve soon.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention that I've noticed there aren't any lights in the backseat of my car, which has been quite inconvenient. While there are two small lights in the hatch area, the ceiling light that was supposed to be there is missing. I'm a bit surprised that a car would be missing such an important feature.
