1999 Chevrolet Suburban problems
The Chevrolet Suburban is a series of SUVs built by Chevrolet since the 1935 model year. The longest-used automobile nameplate in the world, the Chevrolet Suburban is currently in its twelfth generation, introduced for 2021. Beginning life as one of the first metal-bodied station wagons, the Suburban is the progenitor of the modern full-size SUV, combining a wagon-style body with the chassis and powertrain of a pickup truck. Alongside its Advance Design, Task Force, and C/K predecessors, the Chevrolet Silverado currently shares chassis and mechanical commonality with the Suburban and other trucks.
Traditionally one of the most profitable vehicles sold by General Motors, the Suburban has been marketed through both Chevrolet and GMC for nearly its entire production. Along sharing the Suburban name with Chevrolet, GMC has used several nameplates for the model line; since 2000, the division has marketed it as the GMC Yukon XL. Since 2003, Cadillac has marketed the Suburban as the Cadillac Escalade ESV. During the 1990s, GM Australia marketed right-hand drive Suburbans under the Holden brand.
.The Suburban is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Chile, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Philippines, and the Middle East (except Israel), while the Yukon XL is sold only in North America (exclusive to the United States, Canada, and Mexico) and the Middle East territories (except Israel).
A 2018 iSeeCars.com study identified the Chevrolet Suburban as the car that is driven the most each year. A 2019 iSeeCars.com study named the Chevrolet Suburban the second-ranked longest-lasting vehicle. In December 2019, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce unveiled a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for the Suburban, noting that the Suburban had been in "1,750 films and TV shows since 1952."

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-05-24
- VIN: 1GNFK16R8XJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: MY SUBURBAN HAS 43,700 MILES, AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HAS NOT WORKED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THAT THE SYSTEM IS UNREPAIRABLE, THE ONLY THING THEY CAN RECOMMEND IS TO PULL THE FUSE AND DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM ENTIRELY. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL PARTS STORE, AND THEY TELL ME THAT THE EBCM- ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE- WAS THE MODEL KH310, MANUFACTURED BY KELSEY-HAYES, AND IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. FURTHER, THAT THERE ARE NO USED, REPAIRED OR REMANUFACTURED UNITS AVAILABLE. I CHECKED THE INTERNET, AGAIN, THERE ARE NO UNITS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE, NO ONE MANUFACTURES A REPLACEMENT, IN FACT THAT MODEL, THE KH 310, IS "UNREPAIRABLE." YET I'M PRETTY SURE THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE SUBURBANS STILL ON THE ROAD TODAY, MANY WHICH HAVE NON-FUNCTIONING AND NOW TOTALLY UNREPAIRABLE ABS BRAKES. IT IS A HEAVY VEHICLE- WEIGHS ABOUT 5,300 POUNDS, AND WITH ITS FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IS OFTEN USED IN THE WINTER, ESP IN SNOWY PLACES LIKE WI WHERE I LIVE. I FEEL IT IS DANGEROUS, PERHAPS EVEN IRRESPONSIBLE, TO SAY TO THE OWNERS OF ALL THESE VEHICLES; "SORRY, WE CAN'T FIX IT, YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO PULL THE FUSE AND GO WITHOUT ABS." I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE GOVERNMENT TELL GM, OR KELSEY-HAYES, THAT AT THE LEAST THEY NEED TO MAKE A COMPATIBLE REPAIR UNIT AVAILABLE FOR SALE. IF I LEAVE THE FUSE PLUGGED IN, THE "ABS" WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF, BUT THE TRUCK WANTS TO ROLL THROUGH A STOP LIGHT SINCE THE ABS RELEASES THE BRAKES, ERRONEOUSLY THINKING THE TRUCK IS SKIDDING, AND YOU HAVE TO QUICKLY JAM HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE THE TRUCK STOP, AND HOPE THAT THE EXTRA TWO FEET YOU ROLL DOESN'T SEND YOU INTO THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. MY FATHER GERHARD IS GIVING ME THIS VERY TRUCK BECAUSE HE HAS BECOME AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.
TIRES PROBLEM

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TWO FRONT WHEELS WOBBLED, WHICH WERE MOVED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER A TIRE ROTATION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRE SIDEWALLS WERE WORN. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE DUE TO THE COMPOUND OR THE BELT RUBBER AND REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17T019000 (TIRES). AT SAME TIME BACK PASSENGER DOOR AND WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN. SPENT WAY TOO MUCH $ WITH CHEV DEALER TO FIX, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NOW AT 200K MILES SAME THING AGAIN WITH DRIVER SIDE DOOR, WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE, AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN (FAILED AT SAME TIME). AM WRITING THIS ON BEHALF OF MY 89 Y/O MOTHER AND 93 Y/O FATHER WHO OWN THE VEHICLE IN AURORA, MO. MOM GOT TRAPPED IN THE CAR AND HAD TO HAVE HELP GETTING OUT THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE - WHEN YOU ARE 89 YEARS OLD IT IS DIFFICULT TO CRAWL OVER A CONSOLE. WILL BE CONTACTING GM TO SEE IF THEY WILL OFFER TO HELP OR BLOW US OFF. IF LATTER CAN GUARANTEE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT; HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH 1995 GMC 4WD PICKUP I HAD OWNED, DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FAILED, INSIDE AND OUT, AND COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR. NO RELIEF FROM GM EITHER.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-10
- VIN: 1GNGK26J4XJ
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE GAS GAUGE READ ERRATICALLY AND INCORRECTLY FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS. THEN THE ENGINE DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I PARKED THE VEHICLE ONE DAY AND FAILED TO RESTART. I DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE HAD BLOWN. A NEW FUSE LASTED 30 SECONDS BEFORE BLOWING IN ITS TURN. ON REMOVING THE GAS GAUGE SENDER/FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY FROM THE GASOLINE TANK, I NOTICED THAT TWO OF THE WIRES WERE FUSED TOGETHER. SEPARATING THE WIRES TOOK SOME EFFORT AND REVEALED THAT THE INSULATION ON BOTH WIRES HAD COMPLETELY ABRADED WHERE THEY CONTACTED EACH OTHER SUCH THAT THE BARE WIRES INSIDE TOUCHED EACH OTHER AND SHORTED OUT THE CIRCUIT. THE INSULATION ON ONE OF THE WIRES HAD OVERHEATED AND PARTIALLY MELTED OFF THE WIRE FOR A SHORT DISTANCE (1/2 INCH) FROM THE POINT OF CONTACT. REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP/GAS GAUGE SENDER SOLVED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE ENTIRE UNIT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GASOLINE TANK OF THE VEHICLE, I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS SHORT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED A SPARK THAT WOULD IGNITE THE GASOLINE IN THE GASOLINE TANK. IN THE PURPLE WIRE PHOTO, ONE CAN SEE HOW THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH THE GREY WIRE ABRADED THE INSULATION DOWN TO THE BARE WIRE INSIDE. IN THE GREY WIRE PHOTO, ONE CAN SEE BOTH A COMPARABLE ABRASION DOWN TO THE BARE WIRE AND ALSO PARTIAL MELTING OF THE WIRE INSULATION, TO THE POINT THAT ADDITIONAL BARE WIRE SHOWED. THE METAL WIRES DO NOT APPEAR TO HAVE MELTED OR FUSED; ONLY THE INSULATION DID THAT. BUT THE INSULATION MELTING AND FUSION, AS WELL AS THE TWO SAFETY FUSES THAT BLEW, ARGUE THAT THE ABRASION OF THE INSULATION CONTINUED UNTIL THE WIRES INSIDE CAME INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER. THE ENTIRE UNIT IS SPRING LOADED SUCH THAT IT IS IN CONTACT WITH BOTH THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM OF THE GASOLINE TANK. SINCE THE TANK FLEXES SLIGHTLY IN NORMAL USE, THE WIRES FLEX AS WELL, RUBBING EACH OTHER ALWAYS. *TR
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-08-10
- VIN: 1GNEC16R3XJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKES DIDN`T WORK, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE.I THEN NOTICED SEVERAL RUSTED BRAKE LINES ONE OF WHICH HAD A LARGE HOLE IN IT. I HAD MY WIFE STEP ON THE PEDAL AND BRAKE FLUID CAME STREAMING OUT OF THE HOLE.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-06-05
- VIN: 3GNFK16R1XG
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK FAILED IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE AUTO LOCKS DO NOT AFFECT IT NOR CAN THE LOCK BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED FROM THE INSIDE. THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED AT ALL FROM INSIDE OR OUT. NO INDICATION OF BREAKAGE OCCURRED, IT JUST FROZE UP ONE DAY WITH NORMAL USE.
STEERING,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-04-10
- Components: STEERING,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: THE SEALTBELT RESTRAINT LOCKING SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND THIS HAD TO HAVE BEEN KNOWN DURING AND AFTER VEHICLE PRODUCTION .THE SEATBELTS WITH PASSENGERS TRRDTRAUNEF TRAVELS TO FAR FORWARD WHICH WOULD END UP IN DEATH OR VERY BAD HEAD AND NECK INJURIES BECAUSE THE SEATBELTS DO NOT LOCK WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED HARD OR FORWARD MOMENTUM IS STOPPED VERY SUDDENLY! I HAVE TRIED TO CAUSE A LOCK ACTION BY PULLING ON SEATBELTS VERY QUICKLY AND FORCEFULLY WITH VEHICLE SITTING PARKED AND ALSO WHILE DRIVING TO SLAM THE BRAKES TO CAUSE A FAST LOCK ON SEATBELTS AND NO AFFECT WAS APPARENT TO SAFELY RESTRAIN ADULTSADULTS,CHILDREN,OR EVEN NEWBORNS IN THE CAR SEATSEAT.THIS IS UNSAFE AND WITH AIRBAG SYSTEM IN THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE THIS WILL LEAD TO DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH!
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-29
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 63 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE CALIBERS SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-22
- VIN: 1GNEC16R1XJ
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THIS IS A DESIGN AND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT'S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE FAILING IN LARGE NUMBERS AND IT'S A DESIGN DEFECT BECAUSE THE DOORS CAN'T BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY WHEN THE POWER LOCKS FAIL. THE DEALER SAID THE DOOR ACTUATORS AND LATCH ASSEMBLIES MUST BE REPLACED. WHAT HAPPENS IS RIVETS ON THE LOCK ASSEMBLY ARE COMING LOOSE AND WHEN THE WINDOW IS HALF WAY DOWN IT HITS THE RIVETS CAUSING THE LOCK TO JAM AND THE DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED. IN A PANIC SITUATION, COLLISION OR CAR FIRE THE PASSENGERS NOT KNOWING WHY THEY CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR WOULD HAVE TO CLIMB OVER THE SEATS TO GET OUT WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE IF THERE IS A FRONT END COLLISION OR FIRE.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-01
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1GNFK16R3XJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINES. APPEARS THAT REAR LINES FAILED BUT NEITHER FRONT OR REAR BRAKES WORKED DURING INCIDENT. BRAKE LINES ARE VERY RUSTY WHEREAS THERE IS ALMOST NO RUST ON OTHER COMPONENTS.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-03
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1GNFK16R3XJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE SUV DOES NOT STOP AND THE ABS ACTIVATES WHEN COMING TO A STOP (APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH). I NOTICED THERE IS GM RECALL NO. 05068 BUT MY MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED. THAT IS STRANGE BECAUSE ALL OF THE SUV AND PICKUP TRUCKS AROUND THAT TIME ARE INCLUDED, MY MODEL IS NOT. ABS LIGHT SOMETIMES IS ON AND SOMETIMES NOT DURING THESE EPISODES. THIS SAFETY ISSUE HAPPENS PERIODICALLY OVER MANY YEARS WITH THIS VEHICLE.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-04-18
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE FIRST ISSUE I HAD WAS WHILE ON VACATION IN 2012 - I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 25 MPH AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE VEHICLE LOST WHAT I ESTIMATE TO BE 80% OF STOPPING POWER. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS, WITH A REPAIR SHOP BEING UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS, IT WAS EVENTUALLY TRACED TO A CORRODED BRAKE LINE IN THE FRONT DRIVER AREA OF THE VEHICLE ONLY AFTER THE LINE RUPTURED COMPLETELY AND I MISSED GOING THROUGH THE FENCE SEPARATING MY YARD FROM THE NEIGHBORS BY JUST INCHES. THAT LINE WAS REPLACED, BUT WITH A USED PART BECAUSE THE LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO SELL AN EXACT FIT BRAKE LINE AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ORIGINAL PART BY HAND. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS ALWAYS WITHIN THE ACCEPTABLE RANGE, AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ONLY WHILE THE BRAKES WERE ACTIVELY FAILING. IT WOULD TURN OFF AS SOON AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE. FAST FORWARD TO AUGUST 2015 - I'M COMING TO A STOP IN A DRIVEWAY, AND THE PEDAL SUDDENLY SINKS COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON, AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER STEPPING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID. IT WAS FULL. THE PROBLEM THIS TIME WAS TRACED TO A METAL BRAKE LINE IN THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SECTION OF THE VEHICLE. THIS LINE IS ALSO HEAVILY CORRODED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAS VERY LITTLE TO NO RUST AND THERE IS NO RUST TO BE FOUND ON THE BODY OR THE REST OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MULTIPLE PLACES WHERE ALL OF THE METAL BRAKE LINES RUNNING THROUGH CERTAIN AREAS ARE HEAVILY CORRODED. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES IN THIS VEHICLE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN THE FUTURE TO MAKE IT SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-06-08
- VIN: 1GNEC16R1XJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: WHILE TRAVELING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE TAKES LONGER THAN USUAL TO STOP. WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. BRAKES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, BRAKE FLUID IS AT THE RIGHT LEVEL AND IT IS NOT LEAKING ANY BRKAE FLUID AT ALL. THE VEHICLE TAKES LONGER TO STOP AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF NOT INSPECTED BY MANUFACTURER. REQUEST A ONE TIME INSPECTION ON BARAKE SYSTEM ON THIS MODEL AND ANY OTHER MODEL THAT USES THE SAME BRAKE/PARTS FOR BRAKING SYSTEMS. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000 PERTAINING TO THE HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK BRAKES, HOWVER SOME VIN#S ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND SEEM TO GET WORSE.
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-06-08
- VIN: 1GNEC16R1XJ
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: SEABELTS ON THIS MODEL SEEM TO NOT WORK AS THEY SHOULD. IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, OR A QUICK STOP SEATBELTS DON'T STOP THE PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE UNTIL SEAT BELT IS FULLY EXTENDED. ALL OTHER VEHICLES THAT I OWN WORK FINE AND LOCKING MECHANISM FOR SEATBELTS WORK AS DESIGNED. THESE SEABELTS ON THIS CHEVROLET SUBURBAN ARE NOT PERFORMING AS REQUIRED AND THE LOCKING MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE FAULTY. CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL/VIN # VEHICLE BUT IT ONLY CONVERS THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN REGARDS TO THE NECK EXTENSION. MY CONCERN IS THAT ALL SEATBELTS ON THIS VEHICLE COULD BE FAULTY TOO AND COULD INJURE ALL PASSANGERS IN A COLLISION. REQUEST TO HAVE MANUFACTURE DO A ONE TIME INSPECTION ON SEATBELTS TO DETERMINE IF INDEED LOCKING MECHANISMS ON THESE MODELS ARE FAULTY AT NOT COST TO THE COMSUMER.

SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NEVER ON BEFORE THESE ISSUES.IVE HAD IT SCANNED AND IT READ 5 DIFFERENT CODES,INCLUDING THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR,SPEED SENSORS ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE ALONG WITH 2 MORE THAT WEREN'T GIVEN TO ME. DROVE IT A SHORT DISTANCE (7 MILES)& IT SHUT OF AGAIN 55 MPH ON A BUSY STREET.HAD THE CODES CLEARED AND DROVE IT SHORT DISTANCES IN THE LAST 3 DAYS AND TODAY WHEN I PULLED UP TO A REDLIGHT IT BEGAN ACTING AS IF IT WERE GONNA SHUT OFF.I CAME BACK HOME AND PARKED IT AND DONT PLAN ON DRIVING ANYWHERE ELSE UNTIL SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME AN EXACT ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM AND I HAVE IT FIXED!! I WAS TOLD BY 2 MECHANICS THAT THEY COULDNT FIND AN ISSUE!!

I purchased this vehicle in October 1998 and have been diligent with changing the engine oil. When accelerating to highway speeds, there is no oil burning at all. The 5.7L engine runs smoothly. Throughout my ownership, I have replaced various components such as the radiator, air conditioner system, and front end parts as they wore out. I have also replaced the catalytic converter, transfer case, battery twice, and tires four times. I have performed the 100K maintenance three times and have experienced occasional electrical problems. The 4-wheel drive LOW is currently not engaging, and the CD player is not functioning properly. However, the radio and cassette player are still in good condition, and the power windows, lights, and seats have never had any issues. Overall, I have enjoyed owning this vehicle and would consider purchasing another one. Thank you for considering my review.

I bought my car used with 89,000 miles on it. Since then, I have driven it for 205,000 miles and have only had issues with the brakes. I have gone through 4 sets of brakes and 2 sets of front rotors. The interior is not of the highest quality, as there is too much plastic. However, I have only had to put Freon in the A/C once, and I discovered that it has a large capacity. I have replaced the battery once, but I do not like the screw terminals as they tend to vibrate loose. The car has a 44-gallon tank and gets 18 mpg on the highway and 14 mpg in the city. Overall, I feel that I got a great deal for my money. I plan to replace it once I reach 250,000 miles, and I have my eye on the Nissan Armada. While I think the Suburban is overpriced for its cheap interior, I would still give it an 'A' for the past 6 years.

This is my 2nd Suburban, and I'm still in love. I wouldn't want to drive anything else. Even with 90K miles, it still drives very well and is extremely comfortable. Other than replacing one belt and routine maintenance, I've had no problems, mechanical or otherwise. It's much roomier than my Explorer, and it gets better gas mileage.

I would buy a brand new one!!

This is my 4th suburban, and I wouldn't choose any other vehicle for my family of 8!

I strongly advise against purchasing a Chevy Suburban. Despite its spacious interior and cargo capacity, the plastic interior components are prone to breaking and the seats are uncomfortable. Additionally, it is a gas-guzzler and has poor visibility due to the barn door style. The rear seat is also narrower than the middle, making it difficult to fit three booster seats. The mechanical issues are also a concern, as it required a new engine, transmission, and transfer case at relatively low mileage. Overall, I recommend considering other options such as the Honda Odyssey for a reliable family hauler.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. My wife and I bought it from a used car dealer back in July 2007. At first glance, it looked great and everything seemed to be in working order. The dealer even mentioned that the transmission had been replaced. However, we did run into a few issues with the door locks and actuators not working properly. We also had trouble starting the car, but after a major tune-up, it started up again. We did have to replace the brakes and the serpentine belt broke, but overall, it's an okay car. I think it has potential to be even better for the money though. Thanks for listening!

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my Chevrolet vehicle. Although I purchased it with 50,000 miles from a private seller and had all maintenance records from the dealership where it was purchased, I have had some challenges with it. At 73,000 miles, I had to have the intake replaced by the dealer and at 75,000 miles, I had to replace the engine. Additionally, I have had to replace all automatic door locks, the rear light, emissions sensor, and rear door catch. While I love the roominess of the vehicle, I have found the quality to be lacking. Unfortunately, Chevrolet and the dealership were unable to assist me with the engine issue, even after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. As a result, I have decided to trade it in for a Toyota tomorrow and will not be purchasing another GM product in the future. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to purchase one of these vehicles.

I have mixed reviews on the Suburban. The 4x4 was a must and has worked well, though I have been stuck. The Suburban is fast for its size and accelerates well. However, it gets 10 mpg and needs the 44-gallon tank, which now costs about $200 to fill. Since my purchase at the end of 05, I have put 50k on the vehicle but had to replace the fuel pump, alternator, water pump, and the entire rear end, and (get this) 2 new transmissions. The first replacement was at 80k and the second at 110k. Currently, the vehicle has 120k. The power locks and windows are nice, and the leather seats are comfortable to drive and take on trips.
