DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND SIMILAR CASES WITH INTERNAL ANTIFREEZE LEAKS ON VW JETTAS. THIS FUMES CAN REALLY RUIN YOUR DRIVING EXPERIENCE NOT TO MENTION THE POSSIBLE DETRIMENT ON YOUR HEALTH DUE TO BREATHING IN A CONTAMINATED ATMOSPHERE THANKS FOR LOOKING INTO THIS COMPLAINT. *TR

- Summary: THE REAR MIDDLE SHOULDER BELT OF MY 1999 JETTA IS CONSTANTLY BROKEN. EVERY TIME I FOLD THE MIDDLE SEAT DOWN IN THE BACK THE SEATBELT GETS TIGHTER AND TIGHTER AND TIGHTER. THIS HAPPENS UNTIL EVENTUALLY THE BELT IS TOO TIGHT FOR ME TO EVEN FOLD THE SEAT DOWN ANY LONGER AND I HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO BE WORKED ON. APPARENTLY IT IS SOME "BUTTON" THAT IS BREAKING. 1999 Volkswagen Jetta recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta.
- Manufacturer: The Gates Corporation
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
- Summary: The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
- Consequence: A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.

- Consequence: THE BRAKE LIGHTS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE, OR REMAIN ON. FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SIGNAL WHEN BRAKING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 27, 2006. VEHICLES WITHIN THE MAKE, MODEL, AND MODEL YEAR OF THIS POPULATION MAY BE INVOLVED IN EITHER THIS RECALL OR 06V-183, BUT NOT BOTH. THE REMEDY IS THE SAME FOR EACH RECALL. - Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE MATTING MATERIALS FROM INSIDE THE B-PILLAR ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE.

Fun to drive, stylish and beats all other cars in its class easily.

I own an automatic Jetta GLS and it took some time to get used to the transmission features. However, once the transmission became familiar with my driving style, the car handles and drives like a race car. Although I wasn't very impressed with the quality of the inside cover of the sunroof, which is made of cardboard with carpet and is very flimsy. Additionally, the car can be quite noisy if you only have the sunroof open. If you have any back problems, I would highly recommend this car! It provides excellent support for the back and you can adjust virtually anything with the seat.

The only complaint I have about this beautiful European car is that the 2.0 liter 8v feels a bit sluggish. However, it still has a lot of power and can take corners faster than is legal in most jurisdictions. The interior design is typically flawless VAG quality, with everything laid out logically and well placed. The sound system delivers crisp highs and mids, and decent lows. The 5-speed shifts smoothly, and the clutch provides no fight. The best thing is that this car has 145,000 miles on it and is still running perfectly, with a smooth idle. VW reliability proves itself once again. Overall, this is an excellent car that I highly recommend.

I've had this car for about 2 and a half months now. It's a black used 5-speed Jetta with 64,838 miles on it. I know that's high mileage, but I haven't had any engine problems yet. The fuel economy is perfect. The only problem I need to get fixed is minor. My right passenger window motor burned out, so I have to get a new one. Sometimes, when I lock my door with the lock button on my key, the driver's side door doesn't lock itself, but it engages the alarm, so I have to unlock and lock it again. But that only happens sometimes. It's not a big deal.

This car is so much fun to drive! I highly recommend the 5-speed manual over the automatic. It handles curves like a dream. Although there are some minor maintenance issues, the car is definitely worth every penny.

I recently owned a Jetta that unfortunately got totaled in an accident caused by a drunk driver. Although it handled curves well, I had a lot of issues with the car. The check engine light would frequently come on, and I experienced misfires even after switching the plugs. Additionally, I had to fix a coolant leak and the cup holders and glove compartment door broke. Overall, I found the car to be unreliable and it was in the shop frequently. While I was glad to get rid of it, I hope my experience can be helpful to others.

It's unfortunate to hear about the issues you've experienced with your car. It sounds like you've had a lot of trouble with the window regulators and the door sills, especially in the hot Phoenix weather. The low clearance of the Jetta can also be a challenge. It's great that you found a reliable battery to replace the ones that came with the car. It's disappointing that the performance and fuel economy have decreased over time. I loved my Jetta but can't wait to get rid of it now! I enjoyed almost three good years of driving before the first automatic (front, driver's side) window went out. It was not under warranty and cost $370 to replace. In the last six months, both rear passenger windows have also slipped off track and require new kits. I can handle one window, but three out of four is a serious problem! Buyer beware!

I've had this car for 4 years and it's been really good. I only had one problem with the car, the alarm system broke. It's easy to maintain, but repairs can be costly. It could use better fuel economy. It's a great car for the city, getting into tight spaces, but it's too small for a family with kids.

The car has been great in most respects, but unfortunately, the electrical system has been a major issue. We've had one problem after another, with many of the plugs and connectors burning off. The interior and exterior lights sometimes work and sometimes don't. Additionally, nearly every visit to the dealer for repairs ends in a bill of $700 to $1000. We've decided to look for a different brand of car. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
