Common Volkswagen Cabrio problems
Common problems with the Volkswagen Cabrio cars include ignition coil failure, transmission failure, and engine problems.
Ignition coil failure is a common issue in the 2002 VW Cabrio, which can cause engine performance problems. The ignition coils are an essential part of the ignition system, and a faulty ignition coil can lead to a compromised spark, causing performance issues. Excessive heat and vibration can cause the insulating material to break down, leading to internal coil failure. Worn secondary ignition components, such as spark plugs or wires, can cause a coil to work harder, requiring more voltage and significantly reducing the operating life of the coil.
Transmission failure is another common problem in the 2002 VW Cabrio. The transmission is a critical component of the car, and its failure can significantly impact the car's performance. Transmission failure can cause various symptoms, including difficulty shifting, slipping, and grinding noises. In some cases, transmission failure may require a complete replacement, which can be expensive.
Engine problems are also common in the Volkswagen Cabrio. For instance, a 98 VW Cabrio with the 2.0 gas motor experienced engine problems, including a Cylinder 3 misfire. The car stalled and re-started, but it would not rev up quickly and died under load. The owner replaced the cap and rotor and installed a new fuel filter, but the car still would not go. The owner suspected a timing problem, but the motor ran smoothly and revved to redline with no load.
Electrical problems are also common in the Volkswagen Cabrio. For example, a 97 Cabrio had intermittent electrical issues, including the brake light and ABS warning light staying on, headlights, AC, and wipers not working, and the car not starting at times. The dealership could not diagnose the problem, and the owner had to bring the car in for repair after a few months. The problem was solved by replacing the ignition coil, which cost $211.73 in parts and $153.63 in labor.
In summary, the Volkswagen Cabrio has several common problems, including ignition coil failure, transmission failure, engine problems, and electrical issues. These problems can significantly impact the car's performance and require expensive repairs. Therefore, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when purchasing a Volkswagen Cabrio.
What year did VW stop making Cabrio?

My husband, our 2-year-old son, and I find it easy to get in and out of this car and fit comfortably. However, I wouldn't recommend it for larger people. Despite having 200,000 miles on it, the car only requires regular maintenance. The electrical issues can be a bit problematic, but we've found that only VW mechanics can fix them. This seems to be a common issue with many cars these days.

I can tell that you really love this car! It's great to hear that the seats, pedals, and dash are all the perfect size and adjustable to your liking. It's frustrating when cars don't accommodate shorter people, so it's great that this one does. The headrests being usable is a nice touch, and it's good to hear that the dash and hood are in the perfect spots for visibility. The gear shift being in a good spot is important too. It's also great to hear that you can drive this car for hours despite having a bad back. And of course, it's always a bonus when a car looks good too! It's clear that this car is reliable and runs quietly, which is fantastic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!

I've been driving my car for 9 years now and it's been a great experience. It's small and easy to park, which is a huge plus. The only time I had any trouble was when I took it to a non-VW specialist for an oil change. They recommended a lot of unnecessary repairs and two weeks later, my car started leaking oil. Thankfully, my VW specialist was able to fix the issue without charging me extra. Since then, I haven't had any problems. My advice is to always take your VW to a specialist, or even better, to the dealer. If I ever need a new car, I'll definitely get another VW just so I can keep my trusted mechanic.

It is evident that proper inspection before purchasing a car is crucial. My 2000 Cabrio, which has over 109k miles, has been running smoothly and looks great even after 5 months of use. While it is unfortunate that some individuals have had negative experiences, it is important to prioritize regular maintenance and care for one's vehicle. It is worth noting that my Cabrio is an automatic, which has been a great choice for me.

Vehicle year: 1995
I've been driving this car for the past 6.5 years and it has been a great experience. I have had virtually no problems with it, thanks to regular maintenance. Even when I was rear-ended twice in one week, the bumper withstood both accidents and protected the car frame. The only downsides are that the 1995 model does not have a glove compartment and the cup holders are only big enough to hold cans of soda. Additionally, the '95 Cabrio does not have a central door lock. Overall, I am very satisfied with my car.

I really enjoy my Cabbie and she runs great thanks to my private Mechanic. Although I had a bad experience with a VW Dealer, I am grateful to have found a reliable Mechanic who has fixed various issues such as a door lock, two door handles, wheel bearings, vacuum pump, muffler, and interior trunk release. Unfortunately, the radio stopped working, but with 134,000 miles on the clock, I am impressed with how well she still runs. Maintaining her can be expensive, but I am fortunate to have a good salary. I will be sad to trade her in someday as she is so much fun to drive. If I'm lucky, maybe she'll make it to 200,000 miles or even 250,000 miles. It's worth noting that the VW Cabrio is a beautiful car to drive, but it can be challenging to maintain.

Hi there! I noticed that you currently own a second VW Cabrio, but it seems like you've had some trouble with it. Although the car is cute, it's unfortunate that you've experienced major and costly issues with it. For example, the window sensors, automatic roof motor, rotor and distributor moisture (which requires yearly replacement), cruise control malfunctions, and items within the interior falling off. While the exterior design is lovely, it's understandable that you wouldn't want to purchase another VW. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've had some issues with it. The car is now 5 years old, and has 43,000 miles on it. I've had to deal with a few problems, such as the door moldings falling off continuously. VW will reattach new ones at about 70 dollars per, but you'll need it done every 6-8 months. Additionally, the cruise control failed and had to be replaced, the power steering fluid reservoir had to be replaced, the transmission linkage broke and had to be replaced, the air conditioner failed completely and had to be replaced, and the driver's side seat fell apart and had to be replaced. There may be more issues that I haven't mentioned here.

Welcome to our review! We wanted to share our experience with the cabrio. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with the car's quality and have had to take it to the shop multiple times a year for various repairs. We have also had some trouble with dealerships not honoring our car's warranties. Despite these challenges, we remain hopeful that VW will improve their customer service and product quality. We did experience a transmission failure and were disappointed that the company did not provide a replacement car while ours was in the shop. We hope that our feedback will help VW improve their products and services. Thank you for reading!

I purchased this car brand new 7 years ago. The cloth top has held up very well and looks nearly new, but unfortunately, the inside of the roof is quite dirty. I tend to drive with the top down a lot, which results in the rear seats becoming quite filthy. Light-colored leather is always a challenge to maintain in a convertible. In the past, I had a Mustang convertible with medium grey leather, which was much easier to clean. The lower seat backs also helped to keep it from getting dirty. Unfortunately, I have experienced a few problems with this car. The inside door handle broke, and the power top reservoir cracked, which caused oil to leak all over the trunk. It took three weeks to receive the back-ordered part. Additionally, the car stalls in the rain and requires a $300 ignition module. There is also rust on the window header, which has caused the windshield to crack. Lastly, I have had to replace the alternator twice, and the door trim panels' vinyl is bubbling and peeling. Unfortunately, rust is beginning to appear everywhere.
